Everything Wrong with World War Z (Zombie Sins)

  • Today we look at the nonspiritual movie incarnation of Max Brooks' World War Z. Can Brad Pitt and the generic nuclear family stand a chance and save the world from zombie tsunamis? Yes, because American audiences want the same disaster movie everytime apparently. This is indeed a re-upload due to copyright bs with Paramount.

    Hey guys, yes this is a re-upload from WAY earlier this year, but i had to revise this due to copyright notices about 15 times. So hopefully it sticks and can stay up this time, if not and its suddenly gone, well.... it got banned in 215 countries again. So anyways as for now enjoy if you havent seen my sins of it yet! And if you have, well thanks for watching again! Stay WOW!

      TL;DR - Virus makes no sense whatsoever, please add 50 more sins.
      Add this sin: So... how did it get to the US? If it originated in South Korea and quickly hit critical mass, then any planes outbound would have been swarmed by the undead. Sure, Europe, Asia, and Africa would be screwed, but the entire Western Hemisphere would be safe for at least weeks, months, or even years before the disease would get the chance to hit mainland US at all. Even then, due to ocean patterns, the disease would have begun spreading on the west coast far before the east coast. And all of this is barring the questions of how resilient the zombies are to water pressure, decay cycle, etc. The only land-based travel option for the zombies to get to the Western Hemisphere would be via travel through the Arctic Circle, where they would freeze. The suggestion that the infected could have begun in the hospitals via organ transplant, as the book suggests, is impossible due to infection rate. The only way that there would be any airplane stowaways would be if there were an infected in the cargo hold as the plane was leaving. And considering how close in proximity the pilot's seat is to the plane entrance, if there were infected at that airport as the plane was readying to take off, the plane would be off the ground well before the zombies were near the plane (or, at least, the plane would have sealed off any potential cavities or entry points), or the plane would have been completely overrun. Also, unmanned cruise ships would be lost to the currents at sea or capsized by storms. All in all, the virus infects, kills, and turns far too quickly to be a true global pandemic. All of this bars how the virus even works: how does it kill so quickly, as I'm pretty sure not even anthrax kills that fast (or anything that isn't some sort of neurotoxin)? And even better, how does the host become able to infect others within 30 seconds of initial infection onset? I mean, seriously: rhinovirus, the common cold, takes upwards of 48 hours to kill a single cell and reproduce. The most prolific bacteria take 20 minutes to divide once. And you're telling me the virus reproduces enough times in under half the time it takes for blood to fully circulate normally such that the freshly infected can now infect others? Dear movie: Explain this crap.
      And to anyone who got this far: hey, thanks for appreciating my idiocy. :) lol
      Also, hope the vid stays up. Liked it too.

    So uh, in regards to that wall scene: those zombies just yeeted themselves from roughly a 50+ foot drop. Even if they did survive impact, they wouldn't be able to walk, much less run, simply because their spines, skulls and/or legs are pulverized on impact.
    Zombie viruses do not exempt you from the laws of physics. You can't walk with jelly legs or a smashed brain.
    Also I have doubts with them creating an undead mountain to climb said wall. We aren't insects where we have a hardened exoskeleton to withstand weight, we're made of soft tissue and brittle bones. The more realistic scenario would be the tower collapsing because the base just exploded in a squall of gore. Its like trying to mount a ladder on base made of jello.

    In the rot and ruin book series, something similar to disease immunity existed. A boy by the name of Jack had cancer on "First Night", and his zombified family paid him no mind and and shambled on in pursuit of the living. They explained this as the zombie acknowledging his existence, but knowing he was already as good as dead. In this movie, we can see they know the sick exist, but maybe consider them also dead.

    WWZ was such a good read; Max Brooks did a very good job telling a story about the skepticism about the zombies that enabled the outbreak to spread, about how people were making money smuggling humans into safe zones and pushing placebo cures, and how a zombie might be expected to actually behave. Contrast that to this pig of a movie that really didn't offer more than what we've already seen before...it is quite an understatement to say I was disappointed in it. Oh and the part about the rogue Chinese missile sub thats completely missing from the movie. Yeah.

    Zombies do make a bunch of noise, but watch any zombie movie/show/game: there's always a couple zombies hiding in a closet, or behind a door, or in the back seat of the car who quietly wait for a hero/victim to come in and get a jump scare. If they remained consistent with zombie behavior, the minute you made any noise the zombie would moan/growl/cheetah scream/teeth click and head toward the sound/movement.

    You missed the whole sin of the zombies falling off a 70 foot wall and not just being able to move but able to move fast! Trying to move a broken bone causes severe muscle and bone trauma not to mention that some of them are hitting their heads (I guess head trauma only applies when shooting zombies!).

    • @GamingWithNikolas
      @GamingWithNikolas 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed completely, I don't care how much adrenaline you have and it doesn't matter if you feel pain or not, if the bones in your legs and spine are completely destroyed then your not going to be able to run like an Olympic athlete like these zombies do. You could be given Meth, bath salts, Crack, and morphine and if your bones are cracked in half your not walking.
      Also agree with the head trauma. Head trauma is important because it destroys the brain and deactivats the zombies moter controls. If you fall 70 feet and bang your head on concrete that's going to cause nearly as much head trauma as a headshot.

    For a zombie to be able to sense an "unhealthy" host probably doesn't make sense, but with all the superpowers I've seen in videogames, it's actually banal. And I really like the banality as a solution to beating the zombies. As an illustration for how viruses attack individual cells, it's pretty awesome.

    • @MrSumphora
      @MrSumphora ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not the zombies sensing sick people which seems nonsensical to me, but rather the fact they don't infect them anyway.
      For something to be avoided through evolution it has to actually be negative or detrimental in some way.
      However, the 'goal' of the virus wouldn't be to have a healthy host, but to spread as widely as possible. The actual health of its hosts is irrelevant. Even a sick host would potentially be able to infect others, so there would be an incentive to just infect everyone regardless. This is particularly true given how the infected ignore severe injuries and infirmities to just keep going anyway. Why wouldn't the same thing apply to a sick person who was infected, particularly if their illness wouldn't debilitate or kill them for days, weeks, or months? Again, they could still easily infect people.
      Additionally, while there might be an absolutely tiny opportunity cost to infecting sick people over healthy ones, that only applies if there are multiple targets right in front of you. But if there are no healthy people around to be preferred targets, or if you have to run past the sick person anyway to get to them, it doesn't make sense to just ignore them and let them go uninfected. Just bite them and move on.

    • @GamingWithNikolas
      @GamingWithNikolas 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrSumphoraAgreed 100%, how would the zombie even be able to tell who is and isn't sick anyway just by being near them? There us no way for that to really work, even more so because this zombie virus destroys the host brain so bad they can't use logic to figure out who is sick. Also to your point the virus in WWZ turns you in 12 seconds and then gives you super human survivability and resistance to trauma. And the zombies are shown to bite and move, bite and move, each infection takes very little energy for the zombie and the zombies immediately go to someone else after a bite. Even if the person had terminal cancer and had a day left to live, the virus turns you so fast it doesn't really matter.

The movie in the sense that the time to turn is less than a minute, as well as being fast as hell, but the book in the sense that we get good glimpses into the Middle East, Moscow, and even Japan, two out of the four locations being completely absent in the movie with no mention whatsoever, Russia and Japan being the two absent countries. The game also mentions a period of time that was also seemingly absent during the movie: The Great Panic. This was the calm before the storm, if you will. It was what happened all across the globe months before the zombies actually came. It was a time period of civil unrest, rioting, looting, and other signs of panic that for some reason the movie completely skipped. What? Did it just not happen? NOPE!
