  • I'm just been really struggling lately. Things could always be so much worse, but I still thought I'd share some details of what's been going on. Maybe it'll make you (or others watching) feel not so alone. Life isn't perfect and we all deal with something!! I'm so thankful for you all though...truly!!!

Shea - It is truly brave to share this with the world and I sympathize with your situation. I have my own health struggles and your words ring true on how suffering affects everything in your life. There’s no shame in that struggle and should not be a stigma associated with having health challenges. I believe one can find happiness even if they can’t find health and hope you find your way soon.

Oh Shea…can totally relate. After having twins (my 2nd and 3rd kids), my teeth went downhill fast. Root canals, teeth removed, cracked teeth…one New Years Eve a tooth that I had a root canal on FELL OUT. I, too, avoid hard foods for the same reason. I DREAD going to the dentist, knowing there will be more bad news. Thank you for sharing. I so appreciate you being vulnerable, and you’ve helped ME feel better about my teeth issues, because I feel some people think it’s because I eat unhealthy. Praying for you, girl. ❤️

Same!! It's embarrassing and scary that every time I am at the dentist, more and more work needs done. I'm to the point almost no tooth in my mouth hasn't had something. 3 crowns, two root canals, several fillings and chips. All happened within a few years of having kids. It's something I don't talk to anyone about

Aww, same-a month after giving birth to my twins a tooth died and it was the worst pain of my life. I’d do all my births in a row again rather than have had the tooth pain. Thankfully a friend told me to pull it instead of the root canal which can channel bacteria to your bloodstream but it was awful.

I swear you’re describing me exactly! Pregnancy ruined my teeth as well. I ended up having complete, 100% implants. It changed my life Shea. My entire world flipped and I became happy. I didn’t know I was so miserable and controlled by my teeth. People who have never struggled with teeth cannot understand how real it is. I wish you all the best. You are not alone.

    • @Lucinda_Jackson
      @Lucinda_Jackson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Same, except I was all set to do what you did - go full implants - within a couple of months but had a tooth suddenly abscess in the middle of the night without prior warning. I went to bed just fine and, within a few hours, I woke up with my face swollen so badly that my nose was displaced on my face and my eye was bulging. Once I had the emergency taken care of and the tooth removed, I went to implement my plan only to be talked into a series of “fixes” by the dentist. It was never-ending and I spent far more on it all than If I had just gone forward with my original plan. Now, a few years later, I’m left with gaps from missing teeth and teeth that keep shifting and it’s all a mess. And, since COVID decimated a lot of my investment accounts, I don’t feel like I can safely pour out all that money and just do my original plan. So I struggle on and avoid the dentist’s office which is the stupidest course of action of all!
I know dentists always say you should try to hold onto your own teeth, but if they only cause you pain (physical and mental) and affect your “self” - your very being - I don’t understand that. When people have joints that are terribly painful and not functional, there’s no “You should try to hold onto your knee joint for life”! They do surgery to eliminate it and give you a replacement.
Good for you, Sonya, for doing what you knew would work best for you. I’m so glad it worked out well and that you’re happy and able to eat a steak instead of a hamburger! 😉
Seriously though, Shea, it’s something to consider. Make that appointment with the implant specialist in CT and get his/her opinion. It might be life changing for you.

      @@ktrain-hj6jm
The developing baby needs huge amounts of minerals and vitamins to build its body - bones, teeth, connective tissue, etc. Its nearly impossible for any mother to take in enough nutrition to maintain her own body as well as build a new little one. Enter prenatal vitamins which have increased amounts of those minerals in particular, as well as vitamins to try to boost what the mother can provide. If she is unable to take in (or keep down) enough nutrition or those prenatal vitamins, her body will pull those from the easiest sources internally - her teeth and bones - and the developing baby will pull the released minerals and vitamins for necessary growth. Our bodies do a constant balancing act, keeping things at equilibrium. For instance, when you take in too much sodium, your body makes you feel thirst so it can dilute that sodium and then your body expels it in urine to keep the equilibrium. And it’s balancing everything, redistributing, as best it can everyday.

Thank you for sharing your story! We are always comparing our insides to other people's outsides (ie. Social medial). I have been struggling for about 2 years now with an acidic, burning mouth after being put on a medication for h.pylori (an overgrowth of stomach bacteria). This medication, which had 2 strong antibiotics, started causing my mouth to dry out and become extremely acidic and painful. I have been to dozens and dozens of doctors and oral specialists with very little help. Some doctors treat me very poorly when they can't figure out what it is or what to do. It has been a nightmare and I became extremely depressed for about 6 months. I feel for you and all of us who are going through any kind of health struggle, or any struggle at all. My history teacher in high school told us that for him, the advancement of science that changed history the most was the advent of modern dentistry. Before then, people lived lives that were hindered by tooth troubles, many lost their teeth before the age of 40, and still many others died because of infections that had started in the mouth. When that burden was lifted, it had a huge impact on people's lives and on society.
Even with blessings in life (thankfully), there is no apologizing to do when talking about one's suffering. I am in good health, but I do value health above all. Really above all. Because if I am not in good health, I can't care for my family. That's what keeps me up at night when I have health worries, and what motivates me to keep a healthy lifestyle.
If there is one positive thing that comes out of the covid pandemic, I hope it's a better awareness and compassion for those with hidden pain and suffering.

It's truly challenging to have a "hidden" illness or struggle. And having an ongoing dental and/or oral pain & difficultly sure counts. Teeth, as you said, are how you eat, but also are part of how we talk, how we express happiness, anger - they are part of face. It's a true burden and I'm sure that sharing it is helping others, and I hope it's helping you.

It sounds to me that your body is taking calcium from anywhere it can, including your teeth, because fillings and root canals usually don't fail so quickly. It would be interesting to see what a bone density scan (for osteoporosis) would show as you maybe loosing bone density elsewhere in your body besides your teeth. ... Because this probably started during your pregnancy, you are more likely to be deficient. It could be calcium deficiency, but it could be one or more of the minerals that regulate calcium absorption or distribution. I would check with a doctor who knows about deficiencies. 💖🌞🌵😷

As there are ailments that target all bones not just teeth, which would show up on such a scan. I guess I should have looked it up and said: the bone mineral density test. ... Now that I'm thinking about it, why at her age, did she need a bone graft to her jaw before doing the implants? And why was that so difficult? What ever is attacking her teeth is also attacking her jaw bone. I'd be really surprised if this is limited to her mouth. 16 cavities in 9 months is just not right. My mom got her first cavity at 47. Shea, I completely understand how you feel about your teeth! I have always had really good teeth. At the age of 40 I got braces because my teeth were in such good shape. I am now 61. 2 years ago I noticed something was really wrong. My dentist did a root canal on one of my bottom teeth without really discovering what was really wrong. When I had covid, my teeth started bleeding. As soon as everything opened up again, I went to a new dentist. They discovered I had periodontitis. It has been two years now since I was diagnosed. I struggle with this because I had such great teeth at one time. I have always gone to the dentist 2 times a year also. Until covid. I went a year. So I understand how you feel about your teeth. Too often we minimize the connection between physical/dental health and mental health. You eloquently normalized common issues. Think about how awful it would have been without insurance coverage. ❤Shea, you are so brave, authentic, and genuine! Do you even realize how strong you are? Coming out with your dental complications makes you even more powerful! I mean this from the bottom of my heart ❤️! I truly believe as always that you are not only highly intelligent because of your innovations with fashion, home and closet advise you are at the edge of becoming a professional. An icon that will stand the test of time. I am deeply sorry for this experience you have had to endure! Yet on the bright side you will get through this lengthy journey. You will hopefully realize that their are many things we as humans can not control. This may sound cliche yet my advise is to you Shea is when we are faced with life challenges we begin to understand that we must have faith to get through the difficult moments and years to realize we can only “ let go” and trust in whatever religion one believes in that you are not in control of life. Of course we all want to believe we can. I felt this way until at 50 when I went through my hell on earth years. I finally said I give up and I put my own faith in God. Since my own transformational mindset or reframing of my old thoughts I had to adjust and realize that it was the best decision for me. Nothing, and no one is without some major trauma in life. I have never met someone without something they have been through. It took me years to realize life is a roller coaster not the fairytales and “ life is like a bowl of cherries”. I was brought up this way. And that environment left me feeling many times like a failure. I had no idea what the real world was going to be until I discovered this. Today I feel freedom that I don’t have to be perfect! And I actually love me now that I have know this. I have become resilient and grateful for where I am today. Acceptance is the answer to all of my issues now. And having a firm foundation of faith has affirmed that I am worthy just as you are worthy. One must see life’s challenges as a way to build resilience and strength. A great book I recommend to you and others is the book “Bulletproof”. A former CIA female agent that reveals what I have learned. Shea, I believe in you as well as countless others. Your world will be transformed by this life event. And you will come out of all of it as a result of your experience! That I can guarantee! ❤ Melanie Ps. Keep on making and innovating it has changed my life in ways so inspiring I couldn’t thank you enough! 😊

100% hear you. Teeth are insanely important. Cosmetically, self esteem & nourishment not necessarily all in that order. I had braces for 3 years to correct a massive overbite issue which required 4 molars on the top to be pulled out to make room for the rest of the teeth. I vividly remember the comments I received just months after about how much "better" i looked & how people could see "massive improvement". the comments were not given maliciously whatsoever....but I held onto them internally for a really LONG time because i struggled with a lot of "teasing" in the past & self esteem issues. I'm so sorry you went through this & can relate to this video on many levels (not just pertaining to teeth) but just everyone struggles with different things differently even if you seem "privileged" for lack of better word. Shea, I can relate to what you’re going through on two levels. I have had issues with my teeth all of my life. Not quite what you are going through but it has affected me in so many ways especially my confidence and my self-esteem. I too have always been very thin. I have dealt with comments all my life as well. People saying “oh you are too skinny”and “why don’t you just eat more”. Believe it or not I have a hard time gaining weight. I also struggle with some health issues that people don’t know about. It is very hurtful when I hear these comments. I have never understood why it is OK for people to say “you are too skinny” but it is not OK to say to someone who is overweight, “you are too fat”. Why is there a double standard? I wish you all the best, and know that you are not alone. As you said everyone struggles with something. People need to remember that kindness is of the upmost importance. Take care.

I am so sorry Shea, I have been dealing with is problem non stop for 4 years. I have had implants, cadaver bone that failed loss of teeth deep cleaning because I had gum disease that you never would have know my teeth were as white as paper. I was shocked when I went to the dentist and he said I would lose teeth they were falling out. I had all implants crowns and a bridge put in. Finally after 4 years regular cleanings every 3 months ,4 of my teeth started hurting. I couldn't understand X-rays 3 times a year cleaning 3 times a year root measurements. To this day I am unable to eat anything hot or cold. Recently I just went through 4 root canals and replacing the crowns damaged by the root canals. I told my husband Im at my end, I will have all teeth pulled. I cannot even hold my mouth open anymore my jaw is just so tired. I understand and wish you the best.

I know about your suffering! I have scleroderma, this autoimmun condition is very hard on your teeth. I went through a period of time about 7 years ago where my mouth was in such bad shape I ran high fevers and got really ill because of the infections in my teeth and gums. I had several root canals and implants too. You are so right about the implants, it is not a overnight process and not for the faint at heart. I also have a digestive issue, went to tons of doctors only to hear "there is nothing wrong with you". I finally found a Funtional Medicine Doctor; oh my goodness, what a change in my life!! He discovered I had a parasite, I'd had this creepy thing for at least a decade. My digestive system was poisoned with 100 percent yeast, and my liver cannot process red meat or any fatty foods. Trust me I know your frustration. As a result of all this stuff, I have had to become pretty much vegan and a soft food diet. However, I have lost 41 pounds, a good thing, and my digestive system is finally straightening out and for the first time in over ten years I am beginning to feel like I have a life. Sorry, didn't mean to make this about me. God bless and prayers.

It was afterwards that I dealt with my teeth. Thank you so much for sharing, I take calcium / magnesium supplements ever sense and it’s gotten better. I struggled a lot when I had to get extractions, I so understand you on your food comment….Oooh and my son, is a giant he is tall, from behind his built looks like a grown man and once you look at his face you can see he is still a baby…I guess he really needed my calcium, I was producing a football player….lol Sending positive and loving vibes your way!!!

I’d look into what dental materials were used in the teeth that were causing the problems and make a note of it. You may have been having a reaction to one of those. I’m a hygienist and had a patient that told a story similar to yours. She said she finally figured out she had a problem with thimerosal. You could potentially react to any material including a variety of dental materials.
Also! Do you clench/grind your teeth? You said you have a cracked tooth in the front. Make sure you wear a night guard if so.
Any chronic thing is no small thing. I’ve had a season of undiagnosable life sucking health problems. I realized through it that I will always have a “thorn in my “flesh” to keep me dependent on God. I naturally default to trying to do it all on my own. And remember...
2 Corinth. 12:9 - But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
Hang in there. This will get better.

@@terrjarvis8685 ....Do you have any other dental issue? Cavities, root canals, mercury amalgam fillings , have braces, bridges, gum disease??
The teeth are directly connected with your acupuncture meridians . It is now believed that this meridian system that runs throughout your body may be connected with our fascia tissue that runs throughout our muscles and all organs and also with our lymphatic system - the system to eliminate toxins in our tissues, organs via the blood which takes it to our liver, colon and kidneys for elimination. The vagus nerve in your mouth running down through your esophagus to your colon and another up from your 2 front teeth along roof of mouth down back of head tun through your meridians also. To put it briefly.
Meridians also fun from each tooth down to parts of your body.
So yes... your teeth and mouth could have an effect on your body ... muscles.... joints etc.
So it follows that if you use your muscles like in exercise /strenuous movement ... it may refer back to your mouth.
So look for any issues in your mouth. Mercury dental amalgam fillings can create very very bizarre conditions both in mouth and rest of body. A Biological Dentist may be the best to know about these things.
In the 1800s mercury fillings were banned by the THEN American Dental Association because they knew and experienced the detrimental effects of mercury on all systems of the body bc it attacks the nervous system and endocrine which then affects all other systems & organs. This they knew bc of the hazards it posed for mercury mining workers and gold mining and workers in the Top Hats manufacturing bc they used mercury to stretch the hat fabric. Many of these became insane or mentally unstable thus the adage “Mad Hatter” like you hear in the Alice and Wonderland tale.
But the pressure of the elites brought down that 1st dental association. And later the one we have now formed with the same name and they resumed the use of mercury amalgams which is 50% toxic mercury. Mercury is used to mine gold to separate it from the rocks and other mineras. I guess they need to use the leftover for something like they do with fluoride and other residual industrial waste. They chug it to the naive consumers and make more bucks out of it.
When my 8 mercury amalgams were installed within less than 2 months one of the immediate symptoms that happened was I began having a massive pain shoot up to my eye and brain FROM a molar next to one filled. If the pain lasted more than the 20 seconds I would have had to commit suicide bc all I can do is jump up and down holding my head until it subsided. Luckily it would only happen occasionally until one day it lasted longer .
I ran to a dentist and told him that if he did not pull out the tooth I’d commit suicide right there. He then suggested he first drill a hole into the tooth supposing that maybe a gas had been trapped in it. He did and low and behold the pain went away and never returned and was the tooth that ever remained perfect.
A few years ago it became impacted though and got infected bc it was still a baby tooth. It was removed ... but before that the infection ran UP the same route I had felt at the time of those shooting nerve pains and it would end up swelling my whole body with also fatigue and muscle pain. I could “feel” the infection in my body. After the tooth was extracted my body went back to normal... I could actually feel the drainage from my forehead down my face, neck and body as I healed.
If you go on Facebook on mercury dental amalgams groups you will hear a lot of bizarre stories, even bi-polar and schizophrenia being resolved after resolving amalgams or tooth problems. One good one is Andy Cutler safe mercury detox (something like that).

@@terrjarvis8685 .... Also it would be beneficial to have a nutritional analysis blood work up to see what deficiencies in vitamins and essential minerals you’ve got going on. Regular doctors do NOT perform this only holistic practitioners do. Reg doctors do not study nutrition in college they’re just given 12-23 hours in SOME medical schools. Many Chiropractors do . Functional Medicine doctors and Naturopathic Physicians do. Insurance does NOT cover this either. It costs about $500 nowadays.
Deficiency in Vitamin Bs can produce gum and mouth mucosa issues , herpes simplex and dry lips and rashes . So a B Complex would be good to take giving yourself a 2 week break in between. Vitamin D3 too. Then look for those that work WITH Bs and D. Like vitamin C, A, and E. Vitamin C is essential for bone and collagen (D too). Vegetable /food based vitamins are the best.

You may need to choose, implants completely. You are probably gonna deal with teeth issues for tne rest of your life ( it’s your AchillesHeel) .. of course implants have issues , but they are usually the same kind of issues all tne time...and after awhile....they become easy to deal with. I have had the root canals/ swollen lymph’s also..( of course like you I knew it was teeth, but they looked for salvia stones etc until they realized it was my teeth). My hubby has had implants for years..he says there are more pros than cons...( I’m thinking of doing the same). He said food isn’t as tasty as before, but after awhile it’s tasty enough..because you forget just hoe tasty it was before the implants. I have waay more problems with teeth and each year..I get closer to just pulling them all and getting implants. May for you it’s something to consider

SHEA! Leaving my comment (story?) here to maybe offer some hope to you and others.
I'm in my late 20s now and I had jaw pain and bite issues from the first time with braces as an early teen. Got my braces off, but by my senior year of high school I suddenly had an open bite. My orthodontist put me back in braces, but by college I had an open bite AGAIN, even with intense retainers (and lots of gum recession as a result), and I was pissed. Things went on until my mid 20s when the jaw pain came back and it was *bad*. I could hardly eat, was on a soft food diet. Once again, my bite was getting worse, and I noticed my lower jaw and face was... really small? I basically had no chin. I was insecure about my face, my bite, and couldn't believe this was my life.
Lots of details later, but I ultimately learned I have a rare thing called idiopathic condylar resorption, so quite literally since my teen years my lower jaw bone has been eroding away. This caused my bite to open up and for my face to look super weird and unattractive. I am now waiting for a total joint replacement for my jaw. Only one tooth touches, my jaw joints are in pain every day, I am in braces for the third time, and have extensive tooth damage for all the years of orthodontic work. I have never had a defined and normal jaw line in my adulthood. All of this to say that, after finding the right care providers (and fighting insurance), the only life I've known of teeth pain, jaw pain, sleep apnea, etc. is about to end (for the better). Don't listen to the naysayers who are not walking in your shoes. Your mouth is critical to your wellbeing, and pain is never ok no matter where the pain originates. Continue to see the right providers, get other opinions, until this gets resolved. It CAN and WILL get better!
Also, if you have not already, perhaps get checked for Sjogren's - an autoimmune disease that can cause tons of teeth problems.
Rooting (pun intended!) for you Shea!

Shea, I'm so sorry to hear you're dealing with all this. I really recommend you see a therapist to work through all the conflicted feelings you are dealing with regarding this issue. I didn't have teeth issues but I had similar issues where I felt like I didn't deserve to feel how I was feeling and seeing a therapist REALLY helped. They can help you validate, understand, and unpack your emotions and you deserve that.

As a Dentist in both Connecticut and Florida, I have heard this type of situation many times. The best advise I can give, is to see someone that can diagnose why this occurred, how to resolve the problem and then restore your dentition to optimal form and function. There is a true oral/systemic connection that should be evaluated. Stress is a huge factor in many aspects of health including oral health.
Good luck in your quest for resolution and finding the correct team to treat you.

I am glad someone that knows about the topic replied! Also, I am not a doctor or anything, but I've heard about several women that after becoming mothers, they get a sort of calcium deficiency in their teeth. Is that even a thing? I know for a fact that both of my grandmothers had this (also, gave birth numerous times) and some other women of different ages.

Thank you Dr. "G M" for this piece of expert advice; I've been scared to even begin some light research on the topic of my own similar dental issues that I just *know* are present and will likely be worse than I expected, let alone to make my imminent dreaded dental appointment. Anyways...I appreciate so much to hear such relevant information from a credible professional today (without actually being on the phone/in an office with a local dental care provider), this comment, and Shae's video of course, gave me the push I needed to take my first step towards actually just biting the bullet** and schedule a consultation today. I apologize for this mellowdramatic, unwarranted 'personal issue' comment; I assure you that I'm speaking earnestly and perhaps for that reason, I felt strongly moved to express my gratitude. One never knows when they might actually be speaking life-changing words--so just had to let you and Shae know how much you helped a random person online today! Ha in a real way. OK I'm done now 😅😳🤞 Good vibes and all the best to you and yours.

I have broken or lost all of my teeth. I have 2 autoimmune diseases, lupus and sjogrens. Sjogrens syndrome is the name for the autoimmune disease that has been the primary destructive force that have destroyed my teeth and gums. I had never had a cavity until I was is my 30s. It was treated with a tooth colored filling, which became loose and fell out and was replaced repeatedly until I was convinced that I had no choice but a root canal and crown. I had gotten sick the last month before my kindergartener classes ended for the school year in May. I was unable to get out of bed for the entire summer vacation and was diagnosed with mononucleosis and Epstein Barr Virus. That was the end of any normal life and my health began to seriously deteriorate in so many areas that I couldn't believe I had no other diagnosis months later after the mono should have been long gone and yet I was falling apart and my joints, muscles, bones, skin, sinuses, throat, ears, glands, teeth etc. were in neverending pain and I always had fever and just wanted to sleep as I was exhausted 100 percent of the time and spent so much time trying to get any extra rest or sleep as I possibly could and felt like I was failing at life, crying in bed. I somehow continued raising my daughters, and kept teaching for another 7 years but I was in unbearable pain and the misery and exhaustion was depressing and I was terrifyingly gaunt, losing my hair, severely underweight and had developed a mouth full of cavities, cracks, constant ulcers, blisters in mouth, swollen taste buds, swollen cuts and 10/10 pain plus facial nerve pain, gum disease, parotid disease and insufficient and unhealthy saliva issues, and a failed root canal and for 2 years, I worked a 2nd job and put every dime left after bills and my responsibilities as the sole provider raising 2 daughters 100% of the time towards having every issue on my extensive treatment plan for every tooth treated, and completed, using monthly cleanings and fluoride treatments, sealants applied, several new root canals, crowns, fillings, bonding and extractions...only to have those teeth begin to fall apart and break ans and lose the new fillings and crowns in less than 6 months and I have been in a descent of pain, shame, infection, abscesses, extensive extractions and surgery for severe dental disease and infection in so much pain for almost 10 years now, as I am in absolute hell, and I no longer work or have any life or even a close friend or family member. My teeth break off at gum line.I have 8 badly damaged teeth left and they hurt all of the time. The dentists keep pushing me to go the implant route and I will never afford that. I have nothing but medicaid and I can't afford dentures, which 3 dentists said would not work out well. I must tell you about a product for your mouth. It will kill the bacteria in your mouth BEFORE you get your dental work done. From what I understand, this has happening for years. The bacteria in our mouth gets into our bloodstream while having work done; therefore causing all kinds of issues.
      It’s called TheraGel by Aroga.
It’s made up of Aloe & essential oils. Swish and swallow! It continues do do great things in the body.
It’s also a great pain reliever ; trust me I speak from personal experience!! Go ahead and get the 6pack 8 ounce bottles. Great for skin and scars and burns!
      It’s truly amazing!
God bless you and give you strength through your struggles. 🙏🌈🕊
