Shea, I really appreciate all your tips and your insight but why is the end-goal to look younger? More stylish, sure. More figure-flattering, totally agree! I’m pushing 50 and I for one don’t aim to “dress younger” than my age, I just want to look good regardless. And looking younger does not always mean looking better.
I think that the more appropriate term would be to aim to look modern. Not trendy, not trying too hard, just looking like your best, current self. Age 67 here.
I’m 69 and I have seen every one of these styles come and go, it is an infinite circuit. After a while you find what works for you despite the trends. Classic never goes out of style. And I don’t deny my age no matter how good I look because I’ve earned the right to talk about all my lived experiences and I want to share those with others. It’s all a matter of perspective
right, I'm in my 30's and prefer classics. I don't go for the trends. Give it a few months and you now have "outdated" items. I'll stick with classics.
I’m the same age…. Seen all styles come and go, then come back again. (Peddle Pushers in the 50s)! I am happy about my age…. and just want to look good, not necessarily a lot younger.
@@ellbarrow22 Amen sis! i am only 40 and I have seen my teen clothing come back TWICE! ..lol... I just stick with classic and add a few chic items for pop :) Xo
I disagree with so much of this. The hair thing tho, it all depends on the person. After a certain age, skin tends to fade and lighter hair can make your hair look transparent, dry, and give you an all over sort of beige look which can look older. Darker hair can look more youthful. For some, too dark can be harsh and even accentuate wrinkles. However, it's all on an individual basis. I had an older French woman client who loved her dyed black hair and her total look was iconic. Now I'm going to put on my Mary Jane Doc Martens and my oversized aviator frames and look my fabulous arty self.
AH!! That's close to what I said. Too many women fool themselves into thinking that blonde disguises gray. Then they look washed out. That's why I think dark hair very, very often looks more youthful! I'm 68 and I'm sticking with my brown.
Shea... It's because when you get "older" you realize that a lot of these items are Practical! So, You get to an age that you really don't give a $h!t what people think! If somethings practical, Comfortable & you think looks cute, you really don't care! You'll get there one day!😉
Well her main purpose making these videos is to sell people stuff. And actually lots of these practical items she names „out“ are becoming very trendy in high fashion again.
Yes she will, I had foot surgeries from always wearing high heels until my feet wer numb and now I’m paying for it. Tons of cute flattering shoes out there.
Small floral patterns can end up looking like granny style pj’s too. Wear what you like, what makes you feel good and never give a shit what anyone thinks. Live your best life and count every single day as if it were your last. In the end, your family, health and how you show kindness daily are really all that matters. I’m 60 and soon to be 61 in a few weeks and intend to wear my age like a badge! Wait till you are older. You’ll soon realize all those purses, shoes and boutique closet you have don’t matter at all. What matters is within 15 feet of you!
Agree! One will realize it when it’s not valuable any longer. Health, happiness and family is more important then things and what you’re wearing/not wearing. Goodness.
I think your biggest mistake was making the focus on looking younger when it really just should've been out of date fashion. As you can see a lot of people don't care about looking younger but may not want to look super out of date and those tips are always helpful.
Ageism. Old and “ugly” are not synonymous. The fashion tips are spot on,however the word old was used as an insult...not cool. I’m 68 and so very proud.
@@yvonnek4980 I don't think Shea meant to offend and didn't really. It's easy to get swept up in the media and marketing 'look young' barrage but not everyone can step back from it. I don't dye my hair and at 62 am definitely greying. But it's a choice (made mostly out of laziness, tbh) but I have friends and colleagues who don't feel as comfortable. The point is not to judge, which pushing the 'youthfulness' angle does implicitly. Shea's channel is about looking your best and it's most appreciated.
Absolutely! She seems to equate being off trend with appearing old, as if they're synonymous. There is a huge percentage of people who NEVER follow trends, it doesn't mean they look old! Wearing shapes that don't flatter your body type and choosing hairstyles that drag your face down and other broad strokes like that have the capacity to age someone, but the purse you carry having too many pockets?? Wearing a cardigan?? She was definitely projecting with the tips she gave!
@@lblincoe2094 To add a bit of humor, I'd say the opposite about purses: the older I get, the fewer pockets I want (makes it easier to find things!). She's also a fan of cardigans, so I think she was referring to the style. I don't think Shea meant to upset or offend anyone, which is why I pointed this out. Appearance, especially when it comes to age, is very subjective. Mood or frame of mind can change even how we see ourselves when we look in the mirror, so I wouldn't dwell on this too much. To paraphrase a cliche, age-appearance is in the eye of the beholder.
Hopefully Shea lives long enough to be old. This video confuses “old” with “frumpy, unflattering, or outdated.” To use the term “old” as something to desperately be avoided merely supports the very real discrimination of ageism that exists in our culture. This video is very superficial.
Find me one video on this channel that is not superficial... I think Shea hasn't realized it yet but her idea of an influencer is quickly going out of style just like the capris she is bashing here. Promoting lots and lots of cheap fashion hauls, flaunting your wealth (all the jewelry), promoting Amazon... or the ageism you mentioned here. Current zeitgeist is moving away from everything she represents and I'm really curious when she will realize it. I keep watching as a thought experiment, we shall see.
Lol, well, yeah, it's superficial. It'd a fashion video. I take it with a grain of salt. Shea tends to push the boundaries of fashion and while I like some of her tips, sometimes she looks ridiculous. But I was a young girl once and got away with looking ridiculous too. Mature women are wiser and tend to be more classic
Ageism is the only -ism that is ok as far as society goes. I agree. Not old but frumpy, outdated, no style. I’ve seen women much younger than myself dressing like this.
I watched this video this morning and I thought about it sporadically throughout the day. I feel that I must share my thoughts. I have enjoyed your videos for a number of years. You present enjoyable and relatable content about fashion. However, this video feels different to me. Your expressing that there are studies that show that glasses age you by five years and that gray hair does as well seems a bit unfair, in my opinion. One does not understand the grieving cycle that women undergo when they age until one ages. This video makes you seem…I am sorry to say this… a bit ageist.
You are so right about the "grieving" that comes with the aging process. I'll be 50 this year and its hitting me reeally hard. We need to be made to feel like our lives aren't over just because we aren't 20 anymore. We're still the same fun, loving, beautiful people we used to be, just a lot wiser. ❤
I think I'm fortunate that in my job looking older gets you more respect. I wear glasses at work to look older, I'm 57 and work with men who are 50+. I dont mind my age at all. I dress nicely and have laser work done, work out, and think I look good for my age. But I am older and look it and I'm fine with it. If young people have a problem with older people, I don't care. My best advice is to embrace your age, take care of yourself, find meaningful work or volunteer and be around people who make you happy. Everyone ages. My goal is to do it with grace
I agree, I am going through this phase, I feel so much older all of a sudden, I dont think 2 lots of having covid helped and lo m down too. I feel society is becoming ageist in general. It is a bit frightening really. Life experience is everything, and an older adult has so much to offer. I dont normally take offence, but this one took the biscuit really xx
@@rach5516 Shea is a kid. I like dressed for my day with Kay. She has good ideas and is very positive. I think we just need to surround ourselves with more inspiring people. Shea has been pushing styles at a rapid pace and all I can think of is all the landfill she generates from buying and discarding things monthly. I thought young people cared about the environment. These videos are starting to feel very superficial to me.
I am in my 60's, and I agree with everything you said. I have hated the look of capris since I was in my 30's. Post menopausal women traditionally gain more weight around their middle, and capri pants give a diamond shape to the body which emphasizes this. My solution? Casual dresses in summer!
I agree with almost everything you said, but I also agree very much with some of the comments below : cardigans are not only for little girls (just like trench coats, they are classics), lighter hair or dainty prints don't suit everyone (even while you age, being aware of what flatters you in terms of color and design remains very important to be stylish) and using the words "old" and "ugly" as if they were synonymous is indeed quite disrespectful, and something youtubers should more be aware of. I hope my comment makes sense, English is not my first language ! ;)
I agree with you so so much!! Quite frankly, I think people should wear whatever makes them feel like their best selves. We’re all unique; and as much as I love fashion, I love to see a person’s unique expression. ♥️
Agree with your comments. I wear cardigans all the time, different colours and lengths. They are so much more comfy than a jacket and more casual, but still stylish. I don't agree with what this woman said in many respects. She comes across as judgemental and full of herself.
I think we need to break the stigma of having gray hair as women. Why is it considered 'bad' or 'old' to have gray hair when alot of us get grays in our 20s-30s. When I hear someone complain about grays, I just cringe. Someone said our family has the 'curse of the early gray hair' and I'm just like.... is it really a curse though??!! come on people just embrace it! Not to mention, when a guy has gray hair we think it looks handsome and distinguished. hmmmm 🤔
Agree, gray hair can be very attractive. I think she meant women dye their hair way to dark and in a week gray is showing. Not cool. As we age we should go either gray or lighter much more flattering.
Grey hair is a descendant trait of a descendant body. It is a curse of being a stolen soul. All humans are descendant stolen souls with short lived lives. All humans are the descendants of the son of perdition. The reason humans are in a fallen world with descendant minds and bodies is because they are descendants of the son of perdition of original sin. When human's die they return to the son of perdition's soul. All humans are a part of the son of perdition's stolen soul.
Is fashion something you should worry about? NO it doesn't matter in the bigger picture but it is fun to look your best and make yourself feel good. And there most certainly is NOTHING wrong with that. There are a lot of things in life that do not matter but we care about. If you are doing it for yourself and you enjoy it, it matters because it gives you that sweet sweet serotonin. Making yourself happy has all kinds of health benefits. And if fashion is your thing, don't let anyone tell you that it is pointless. Nothing is pointless if you enjoy it and you aren't hurting others, of course.
I normally love your tips but implying that older is wrong and something that should be avoided at all costs is what’s wrong with society and adds to the continual pressure women feel to look forever 25. Maybe next time, you could just talk about outdated styles without constantly implying looking younger is better.
To a degree I think you are right. The pressure to stay looking young is wrong. But on the other hand: you feel better looking fresh and ‘hip n groovy’. Do people still say that? Guess I’m prehistorian 😂
I'm sixty, and guess what ... I'm completely ok with being my age. I've earned my right to dress however I chose. I have grown to the point that I don't give a crap what's in style. Eventually, you'll grow up beyond this need to be a style slave.. Folks, wear what ya want. Embrace your age, be grateful for your age. Stop listening to people's opinions. Oh gosh, your a genius, your spent 2 hours researching something! You are too funny! Oh and by the way... STOP AGE SHAMING!
Wow. Terrible advice about aging from someone too young to give it. Choosing styles that make you look older is quite different from avoiding growing older. Which are you addressing in this video? If you feel the need to apologize for things you are saying then you may need to re-think them. Started off okay, but went bad quickly. Aging is a privilege denied many.
I am also 60. I like to keep up with the times with clothes, hair and makeup. It is hard to find comfortable shoes that are flattering. I think she is right about the aging fashions. If you want to look old, go for it. I am not ready for that. I take after my mother.
@@minwells1069I’m 60 and last time I went shopping with my husband he started picking clothes for me exactly what my mother in law would buy for her self and she is a fun 85 year old lady but no thank I seriously don’t want to look older than my age I end up laughing at my husband and two customers standing next to me were laughing too.
I agree with you.Been there done that, what's next? Nothing...I do not know who made these people an authority on fashion.I tend to believe if they do not like a particular style you shouldn't also.Every influencer has a different opinion.I say wear what looks good and feels comfortable on you.
I am 76 years old and I get what you are saying. I read and did not agree with some of the other comments from ladies. I totally agree with everything you said. I look much younger than my age because I pay attention to style advice and I take the time to present the best me to the world just as I did when I was your age. It makes me very sad to look around at so many women (most of who are younger than me) and see them looking frumpy and aged beyound their years. Your advice is to help us to not be invisible, not to be frumpy and to care about how we look. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. We can be beautiful at any age. I wish more older women would get that. Thank you!!! :)
Bermudas are AWESOME!! They are modest shorts, that are short enough to be cooling on a hot day, but still long enough to be modest and comfortable. I also love cardigans and shrugs over tanks and sundresses to preserve modesty. I will never give up these modest, comfy styles. I have short legs and truth be told, there aren’t any pant / short styles that look good or “magically” make my legs appear long. Lol (No, not even flowing linen pants!) I am opting for comfort. 😊😊😊
A lot of the “out of date” items are what make summer clothes modest for those of us needing to cover shoulders and to the knees (especially in summer) by choice or religious readons. I would love to see a video with modest summer fashion alternatives.
Yes this!!! I too am a Christian and was drawn several years ago to shea’s wholesome spirit and lightheartedness which is missing in a lot of super worldly fashion bloggers. But recently her tips are for items that I wouldn’t ever be able to wear as a Christian and I too would love some tips for being trendy and classy while being modest. I know that there’s a way to marry the two and I would love to see her do it.
Go for linen and cotton material! There are tons of beautiful modest dresses, tops, pants and shorts made in these fabrics that are very loose and flowy. I actually feel cooler being more covered since I am more protected from the sun, but in a breathable fabric. Try Madewell and Everlane for some more affordable options.
Liked this video! I’m 67 & have been making the “better” fashion choices by instinct for years now. 💯agree with all you mentioned! Not only makes you look younger but IMHO more classic &fashionable 😀
I don’t think she’s age shaming, I just think there’s better options out there for women my age (50’s ) and older than to dress like our grandmas did. If you don’t appreciate the helpful hints, then why watch this TH-cam channel ? 🤷🏼♀️
This is the way of all fashion advice. It's an endless cycle. It's fun for seeing what's in now. Don't take it so seriously. Many women regardless of their ages are dressing "old". It's a comment on current style and not about ones age necessarily. Swap "old" out with frumpy or unstylish, or "in need of tweaking"
Nope. "Boomer chic" is finally out! Yay! This is more than about style. This is about mindsets, politics, food, entertainment, society, business - every effing thing! Time to put the past out to die and to let the future in to live!
Hi Shea! I appreciate your attempt to point out ways to look more attractive, but it kind of comes off as shaming, which I know you would never do intentionally. Perhaps you could frame your videos in a different light; say “how to look chic or modern at any age” instead of “you look OLD AND OUTDATED!” or “how to look classy and well-dressed on a budget” instead of “things you’re wearing that make you look CHEAP!” Please don’t insult your viewers by talking down to them. Keep it positive, upbeat and helpful, not shame-based. 💕🌷👍
@@alanaaguillera6366 🙄maybe people could toughen up a tad bit🤷🏻♀️ Everything nowadays is considered shaming, insulting, etc etc. I watch a lot of her videos & she isn't doing this is a shaming sort of way. Use common sense & know that some of her advice is good & usable & could help you improve yourself, some is advice you wouldn't/can't use & ignore. I don't understand why advice, something most people used to just take or leave, is now something to get up in arms about. Wow🤦🏻♀️
@@westie430 Probably her advice is or not applicable to you but it sounds very insensitive to some bcuz the comment we read off surely highlighted more subtle ways she can communicate her message . I think you are the one who is getting up in arms defending "insulting & shaming".
HI SHEA! I am new to your videos and am loving them. I'm in my 60's and modeled in my younger years, so I keep current with fashion and makeup trends, but I am acquiring all kinds of new knowledge from you! I know I'm getting older, but I don't want to be older AND frumpy, so thank you for providing youthful and fun ideas I can incorporate into my personal style. I also live in the Pittsburgh area and absolutely love your quirky sense of humor. So happy I am a subscriber 🙂
I disagree about brunettes going lighter as they age. Not all brunettes look good with blonde hair. I've seen brunettes go blonde and look much older than they really are.
Did she actually say to go blond? Anyway, older women dying their hair black look older and harsh, but a nice brown can be more flattering on the face. I've noticed that on my Italian relatives 🤌
Bermuda shorts are literally on trend for this summer, as they are every summer. The difference is that whites, beiges and creams in high quality fabrics are the thing now versus the traditional denim. It all depends on how you style it.
Wow, so many passionate comments about this video! My two cents is no disrespect to older women (like me at age 62) was intended BUT it still did come off as somewhat ageist. So, it wasn't the messenger but rather the message! Influencers need to learn to stop calling dowdy, out-of-style clothing "OLD!" And NO, we're not being overly "sensitive" but rather assertive enough to call out ageism whenever we encounter it whether it's intentional or not! Peace my pretties!
I agree with you Shea on everything but the cardigans. You said you see everyone of all ages wearing them. Well, yes, because they are classic. I have cardigan sweaters and will continue to wear them along with everyone else. The oversize ones make me look like a child that raided my mother's closet
I would just look ridiculous wearing a blazer on a casual walk in a park and sometimes just need a more airy option… cardigans are becoming extra trendy with the whole „preppy style“ thing besides
I actually think cardigans can be one of the most polished/classy/complimentary pieces to wear. Nothing more unflattering than the huge/oversize sweaters(recently trending)... they look like something I'd find after raiding my grandpa's closet.
@@blakelevi4006 There are alternatives to cardigans. The preppy style is not in style right now. If you are cold at the park then wear a light jacket from Lululemon or a nice activewear set that suits the weather.
@Lea Levi Totally agreed. Cardigans are classic and versatile. Blazers have their place, but can't replace the casual, soft, femininize feel cardigans bring. To be honest, I can't care less whether it is trendy or not. I have tons of cardigans in different length, design, and will wear them forever.
Capri pants and bermuda shorts , help cover legs that have been through carrying babies, excess weight coming and going. Talk to us when you get older😂
What is the alternative to "older?” And, you know I’ve been through a lot to get here, alive. I’m am also dead sick of endless "advice" urging older women to be ashamed of growing older.
Don’t hate her bc she is saying the truth. I am 61 years old and like the fact that cares enough to help us look our best. You don’t have to follow her advice.
I don’t follow fashion trends or home decorating trends. Our house is decorated the way my husband and I like it. It’s cozy and comfortable. Ever since menopause, my weight has changed. I’m not 125 pounds anymore so I can’t dress like thinner people do, it’s just not flattering. I wear what makes me feel good about myself. If someone has the nerve to say something to me about what I wear or how my house is decorated, then maybe they aren’t really my friend. This life is too short and I’m going to do what makes me happy. It’s as simple as that. Trends come and go every day. I know this because I’ve been seeing young girls in bell bottoms! 😁
Oh honey...I'm 54 and just spent nearly three years growing out my gray. I was DONE coloring and damaging my hair and opted to go cold turkey. I eventually cut my hair that had grown to my waist to a lob to get rid of what was left of my fried, damaged, old dyed hair. My hair has never been this healthy and I've never gotten compliments like I do now. The thing about gray hair, and you even had Jamie Lee Curtis pictured in this video, is it IS a lighter hair color and it's flattering on every woman who wears it. It is also unique to each of us, as opposed to the table full of blonde haired women drinking chardonnay at Applebee's. I don't want to look like everyone else. I want to be me. Nature has given us the color we should have. If I get bored I can use an Overtone or Arctic Fox in a purple shade, from pastel to bright, to jazz it up a little, and it tones my silvers to a lovely shade while not damaging my hair. I remember going to my mom's birthday party when she was in her 50s and she and all of her friends had the exact same blonde color. A decade earlier they were all brunettes with the most artificial color I've ever seen. Most of them now, pushing 80, have ditched the color and are rocking their own shades of white to silver to salt and pepper and they all look fabulous. Not to mention we're all saving a TON of money and a Saturday spent at the salon. When I was in my 30s I swore I'd need my roots touched up before my funeral. Now, I look in the mirror and can't wait to see how much more silver I'm going to get. It's empowering and freeing, and I encourage anyone who's thinking about going gray to do it. You can always dye it if you don't like it, but I promise you, you will have a color that no one else has. Anywhere. And that's pretty damn awesome.
I have so many thoughts, but my main one is this: Why am I, a 51 year old, listening to fashion advice from someone in her 30s? Especially when there are fabulous TH-camrs in their 40s, 50s, and 60s+?
Me, too! I’ll keep the grey hair, the cardigans, and the comments from my college students who think I’m a decade younger than my actual age! Confidence and attitude with a sprinkle of Retin A are my anti-aging secrets!
Hi, It’s not about the age, it’s the tailoring (i.e construction of the outfit to fit your natural body proportions and silhouette. It’s your body, tailor all your clothes to fit you instead of trying to fit into the clothes) and styling (I.e steaming your outfit from the inside out to remove creases, choosing color combinations in your skin undertone, mixing textures, shapes, wearing proper underwear etc). With those two things done correctly you can make any outfit work whether you’re young or old. Works for any age group! Also, I have these tips that I think you guys might like: 1. Peplum. Peplum skirts, gown or tops can look good on anyone especially if you’re trying to hide your tummy lol. 2. Florals (large florals/dainty florals)/busy prints/shiny textures like sequins or shimmer/brocade/lace (doesn’t matter the age, the key is to make sure the floral patterns/busy prints are in strategic places you want to emphasize on your body. That’s what tailoring is for). 3.Matte textures( plain denim, plain jerseys, felt, pretty much anything you can use to deemphasize parts of your body or to complement the shiny/glossy textures). 4. You can also mix a flowy top or a light cardigan with a more structured pieces like a structured bag, trousers etc to create visual interest. If you’d like more tips please like this comment.
Come on Shea, take this post down. It is offensive to people of all ages. Glasses, hair, shoes? you don’t know what conditions people suffer from at any given age. I’ll give you clothing items, but I think you went too far this time on the other things. Maybe next time make a video showing different eyeglass frame types you think are more youthful. People with dry eyes or other eye conditions can’t wear contacts. Show different shoe types that would look good on people who have swollen ankles or bunions, hammer toes, etc, or show grey hair styles and cuts that you think are youthful to women who have decided to let their hair go natural because they are allergic to dyes, etc.
I’m 61 years old with bunions and I wear glasses. I know it’s hard but there are a lot of choices out there of shoes that look nice and are comfortable. She said to buy whatever glasses you feel good on you. There are a lot of people like me that like her advice and you shouldn’t asked to be taken down. She is not putting older people down, we don’t need to take things so personally. We need to be appreciative of others when they are trying to help.
Pedalpushers for someone with good legs are very flattering. Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly etcwore them and it is a classic with a fitted top or button down shirt knotted in the front and a little scarf
Agree I have terrific legs from writing peloton and they look great on me. They show off all the work on my legs. White House Black market sells really stylish ones for us old people
That's what I was thinking while watching her advice about capris. They are classic and can be flattering. Like any type of pant, what matters is the quality, cut and how you style it.
After watching this, I feel like setting fire to my closet. If you live long enough, you, too, will get old. You are what you are. You can't outrun yourself. Better just to wear what we want and stop making us feel ashamed of what happens naturally.
No one can make you feel anything. That's your own internal dialogue. She's just sharing tips to enhance Beauty. Deal with it. I'm over 60 and I appreciate her tips! And no, I don't feel bad about anything in my closet. My choices are my own.
Aren't you a ray of sunshine. As I sat here shoving double stuff Oreos into my 70 year old mouth I couldn't help but thank God that you're not in charge of my wardrobe.
Wear what ever makes you feel good and happy. What ever age you are. I gave up doing the fashion thing in my 20's. In fact I tried to go against it to show my own personal taste. Being happy in your own skin is way more important than doing what is in fashion. Be a unique individual that others look at and say hay I want to be that confident to wear what ever makes me happy.
Lol...absolutely agree! I'm 57 and teach middle school. I try to keep up with the latest styles and color my hair blonde. Every time the kids try to guess my age the highest they guess is 42. So, when a student with behavior challenges thought that she was going to insult me by calling me an "old lady", I said, "I'm actually thankful that I made to this age...so thanks!" She didn't have a come back :-)
Sorry! It was part of a copy & paste from my clipboard. Lol what I intended to say was, 'as a fellow teacher I know the feeling of being told to go out to pasture. Lol
Did you know that if you color your hair darker it will make you look even younger?! I'm twenty-something and in college and one of my professors who is 50+ had light blondy hair and then she colored it to a nice chocolate brown and she looked a million times younger! I think the science behind this is because blonde is lighter meaning less pigment and gray/white hair is also lighter which has no pigment which makes people look older. But rich dark brown hair is associated with the hair still having great pigment which correlates with youth!
EMBRACE YOUR SILVER LADIES!!! I stopped dying my hair when my first grandchild was born. I'm totally OBSESSED with making my SILVER (not grey!) Hair as bright and white as possible!!! AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!!
But she was in high school when she started graying. I'm sorry but no 17 year old from the early/mid 2000s is going to "embrace their grays". I get what you're saying, but if she wants to dye her hair, she can do whatever she wants!🤷🏻♀️
@@westie430 ofcourse she can die her hair!!! But a woman doesn't have to and shouldn't feel she has too, high school or not! That's my point. And I had a patch of "grey hair" in High school too, lots of people do
I stopped watching Shea about 6 months ago since I don’t think she likes women over 50. I’m way over that age so I haven’t been watching her. Anyway I came over today and she’s at it again. What’s old and what’s frumpy? I stay within comfortable clothes and I find she’s still telling us she’s in her 30’s. Rub it in, Shea.. I’m now depressed and shopping on Amazon for some comfortable moccasins from Clark’s. See Shea I do listen..
So Shea what is someone supposed to wear when you have varicose veins and not flattering! I appreciate your probably appealing to the younger crowd! But making others feel bad isn't cool!?
Agree! Spotted my first varicose/spider vein behind my knee at 16 years old, I'm 50. I saved all my money from my after-school job to afford a derm visit out of pocket because insurance considers it "cosmetic" ... fast forward, they escalated, multiple ablations, sclerotherapy etc and now I also have lymphedema :-(. I stopped wearing shorts in my early 20s because I was so embarrassed by them. I"m 5ft 2, so most "capri fit ankle length" and I feel cooler. Mid-life menopause is hard enough :-(
Shea - Challenge video: Please show us examples of comfortable shoes that look updated & stylish to wear with casual to dressy dresses and also with flowy long wide leg dress pants. I’m talking really comfortable shoes for those of us whose feet are trash &/or who must walk distances while dressed up (campus graduations for example.) Those of us with the miserable feet can’t wear those strappy high heeled shoes or even wedges that have much height. 👉🏼Thank you for your videos!🙌🏼 You help me be the cool & hip mom💃🏼🤣
Crocs make some really cute and SUPER comfortable wedge sandals. They're not too high, and I find them to be supportive and comfortable for achy feet :) and no, they don't look like the clog crocs!
I too like Vionic. David Tate make good looking extra wide shoes. Someone mentioned Croc’s they used to have a line that made dress shoes with high heels that looked like leather and stacked heels but felt like Crocs. They actually looked pretty good but were not designed for wide feet.
Seriously….why do we care about a number? How fortunate are we to be alive?!! Let us celebrate LIFE and its gifts as opposed to focusing on that which we cannot control. ♥️♥️♥️
i don’t normally post comments like this but am still rocking all of these and people still say I am like 19-20 it’s not about the clothes you wear is about how fresh your skin looks NO MAKEUP AND LOTS OF WATER IS THE WAY FORWARD!!
Just keep in mind ladies that these things “really age you” IN HER EYES. She’s saying this as though these are rules and are the opinions of everyone. It is literally just HER opinion
@@Kay-uy4xn There are already more than enough people in this world making bank by preying on the insecurities of middle aged women. Is adding one more insulting "opinion" really productive? I don't think so.
I just found your page! I love your suggestions and I LOVE that you get right to it. I’ve been trying to find good fashion vids and most ppl are just too fond of the sound of their own voice. If I’m 3 minutes in and you’re still talking about other stuff like the specifics of your links beneath, I’m instantly impatient lol. It just feels like these ppl don’t realize that most of us are busy and don’t enjoy watching ppl talking about themselves or their other vids they are trying to promote, we want you to get to the point! You are quick witted and you even talk fast and I really appreciate that!
When did being older become something so terrible that we need a video about not looking it. I feel offended by this video and I’m not they type of person offended by pretty much anything. I feel disappointed now
I don't mean to be unkind or disrespectful and with absolute all due respect, before Shea mentioned she is in her thirties i honestly thought she was in her early to mid forties. I do agree with many of the tips in this video that could otherwise make a woman look shabby and frumpy ( other than the cardigan tip and the jewelry, perhaps because in india which is where I'm at, Indian women wear a lot of ornamental matching jewelry), but i think she would inadvertently make alot of women feel very insecure about themselves and their ages.I really dislike the pressure society puts on women to look younger. The entire tone of this video would have been so much more positive had she replaced the term old with frumpy. The world is subtly transitioning towards acceptance of different shapes sizes and ages. Everyone wants to.look their best and I'm sure this video was with the best intention. I hope I haven't offended anyone as that's not my intention. Peace.
I’m 60 and agree with all of the above. I hear what you’re saying on the hair color but I’m not ready to get rid of my fake dark hair yet. I’m naturally an ash blonde but went dark plum red years ago and love how it looks on me. Im also 5’10” so if my sparkles start to show most people can’t see it. I use the root cover up when needed. Im also blessed to have a daughter who’s a hair stylist so I probably get my roots touched up a little more often than if I had to pay full price for it. I often get mistaken for being in my early 50’s and sometimes 40’s. I do dress fashionably but I’ve strived to do that all of my life. I don’t wear stilettos anymore but I do wear cute shoes and there are so many cute sneakers out there that are very comfortable without looking like you’ve given up. Love your videos and you! 💕
Oh, I forgot! I do have older friends that have gone blonde as they’ve gotten older, I don’t think it’s a win for everyone. It is lower maintenance but a lot of times it just really washes out your face.
I’ve been a subscriber and generally like your content. I’m 35 (maybe considered “old” to younger people and “young” to older ones). I do not do a thing mentioned in this video but even I’m a bit offended by the way this is presented. If I must have a comeback comment, I’d say the “older” and wiser you get, the sooner you would stop wearing fast fashion because we would start understanding quality over quantity. But I understand that’s where you get your sponsorships… I am Asian with black hair (and some grey now) with warm undertone and turning blonde will not make me or the general population “younger” but inappropriate. I hope the next idea to look “younger” after turning blonde is not wearing blue contact lenses even with no prescription. Wanna look like you have “long and lean legs”? No, but just wanna look proportional with the upper body. If you naturally have a very short torso and long legs, does it automatically make you look like a supermodel? Nope! I don’t have a problem with fashion preferences but I definitely have no interest to dress or look like a 25. Again, I think I just disagree with the way it’s presented, not necessarily the content itself.
100% agree with you... I'm the same age as you and I felt so uncomfortable watching this video. It's possible to talk about items that make one look frumpy or outdated without insulting the whole generation of women or making it sound like "old" equates to "ugly". Erin Busbee is a perfect example; she makes uplifting videos for women aged 40+ (although I think her tips are great for anyone!), with great advice on how to look modern, stylish, AND age-appropriate. I guess I'm no longer the target audience of Shea's channel; I ditched fast fashion years ago and I cringe each time I see rich influencers surrounded by tons of stuff giving overgeneralized fashion advice that is SO out of touch with reality for the majority of women... Again, I do agree with most of her points, but I just think it comes across as a bit insensitive.
I think you were reading more into it and she meant. You don’t have to be tall or blonde to be beautiful. I’m Italian decent and I like blond on me to cover the grey but it doesn’t have to be blonde.it could be copper or mahogany
Shea just insulted the whole vintage fashion community with her hate for barrettes, Mary Jane shoes, and cardigans over dresses. It’s fine to not personally like something, but she’s doing a lot more than that. Although vintage fashion is very diverse, insulting even a small part of it shows a great ignorance for how alive and vibrant fashion is. It’s stupid to hate on something just because it’s not trending. She shows how shallow in her knowledge she is by labelling it “a little girl’s style.” It makes you wonder how shallow her other areas of “expertise” are. I’ve seen some pieces pulled of flawlessly by woman of all ages, but they had a specific body type, while the same piece on another body type didn’t work.
Hi, Shea! One note about capris. I am short waisted so wearing capris can help balance out my leg to torso ratio. The key, I have found, is finding the sweet spot for them hemline so they shorten the leg without the stumpy effect. If I wear capris, I roll them up so they end below the knee and above the widest portion of my calf. That usually gives me a solid 1/3 torso (with the right shirt), 1/3 pants, 1/3 bare legs with nude shoes. This is much better (for me) than 1/4 torso and 3/4 legs, especially since I am large chested. Or, as you mentioned, 7/8 or ankle length pants can work as long as your shoes contrast with the pants (for us short torso ladies). Love your videos. :)
I agree that capri length is unflattering on everyone. But I also think ankle and pedal pusher length ( just as you described -below the knee but above the calf) is flattering for everyone. But it has to be fitted at the bottom of the knee, not wide or loose.
It's funny because growing up if your pants were to high up the ankle they were called "Highwaters" and you got made fun of. So girl wear what looks good on you period. Capris and Bermuda shorts look really good on me but pants that are above my ankle or shorts too close to the knee or below them are really uncomfortable and look horrible on me too me so I don't wear them. (The Bermudas I have are not touching my knees)
I am 5’1 with a small torso. Wearing oversized anything makes me look bulky and frumpy. I can’t just wear an oversized cardigan or blazer 😱 And the smaller dainty print patterns scream “little girl” to me more than other stuff here.
Wow talk about being judgmental. People age and wear and do some of these things. Getting older is a privilege that a lot of people don’t get to do. I love short cardigans and floral dresses. I have a vintage LV bag that has pockets on the outside. I have decorative glasses. I wear capris. I also wear a barrette in my hair at work. Not to be rude but you could go with people in their thirties should not have very long hair like children do. This is such a snooty video. BTW I am 63 years old.
Agree with everything said here. This woman Shea is so full of herself (check out the bling and makeup). She is so judgemental. Perhaps she is terrified of aging. I am not going to take any notice of anything she says, not watching any more of her videos and am going to continue to wear whatever I want to. I have grey hair, wear glasses, wear cardigans in all colours, etc...
Shea appears very shallow in her knowledge of fashion. I’m younger than her and follow a lot of history bounding and vintage fashion TH-camrs. Shea just insulted some classic staples as “a little girl’s style.” I wouldn’t take what she says seriously. She seems more like a trend chaser who believes her own marketing than someone who looks at the bigger picture to see how different body types pull off different styles. To call her a “fashion guru” is laughable.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Capri pants. As an older woman who isn't comfortable showing my legs in shorts in the summer capris are a life saver. I think they look much better on me than Bermuda shorts. If you have nice legs and can wear shorts that's great but not everyone does. Sometimes comfort beats out style. I just ordered 3 new pairs of capris and I'll wear them proudly. I don't care if I look old because I am and I don't care what others think ...lol
Totally agree !, I'm 69 and people always say I'm smart and casual and very up to date always been young at heart..I had to switch this lady off because she's very patronising! She must be all of 45 ?.. really annoyed me .....😊😅
Unfortunately capric are very frumpy. I got rid of mine a couple of years ago. Every time I see someone in them I'm glad I got rid of them. I'm 69 and try to look well put together.
Haha, this makes me so glad to be older because I realise how I don’t care whether something makes me look old or not. Your body is your home, your vessel to live your life through (in capri pants and bulky shoes, lol). With age comes wisdom and she’ll enjoy it when it comes to her too. Fashion is so shallow.
Shae, you make some great points, however, some of us can’t wear contacts because of dry eye. I have worked out my whole life but now have crepey arm and leg skin. It looks better covered. I’m sure these sound like excuses to you, but they are also the reality many of us face when aging. You showed some ankle pants as alternatives. They’re hot. If I looked good in short shorts, I’d be wearing them! I agree with the bedazzled glasses and clunky shoes. Check out why people are wearing the trends that are out dated. It may not just be bad habits.
Me to with crepey skin- and I raise you saggy/wrinkled knees. My solution is skirts instead of unflattering capris or Bermuda shorts. They are cool and comfortable and versatile- dress up or dress down.
I'm 75 and loving it. I don't want to look "younger". No desire at all! BUT I don't want to look FRUMPY. I think that is what you really mean. I wish people would get over the "looking older" thing. It is not about age.We have all seen frumpy females of all ages. I went to elementary school with a frumpy girl... sweet, but frumpy!
Let's stop stigmatizing aging--it perpetuates the idea that young = valuable and old = not so valuable. People should be concerned about aging in terms of sustaining their health and financial stability--not worrying about society discarding them as irrelevant. I dye my hair dark red to lessen the grays--you don't have to go blonde.
I think we need to consider that, for most of us, looking youthful is a goal i.e. not letting ourselves grow frumpy. Caring about keeping a youthful appearance can indeed go hand-in-hand with staying healthy and even financial stability. It's invigorating.
Great video! I'm 49 and embraced my natural grey hair a few years ago. I know it makes me look older and I'm probably mistaken for a grandmother when seen with my eight year old son. But not having to dye my hair anymore is so freeing.
While I agree with most of your thoughts, I don’t agree with dying your hair to make you look younger. If you want to look your best your hair color should flatter your skin tone. You also just scared young girls with glasses into never wearing them. Looking young and sexy is important for your self esteem but being able to see is important for your health. Nothing attractive about a woman walking into a door.
I can't believe she said that. There's so much wrong with this video. I've been wearing glasses since I was a little girl. And she is wrong it does matter what shape you wear because it can one harm your eye sight if your lenses don't match up to your eye level. Two when I actually figured out what type of style looks good on me it made a huge difference in how thick my lenses were and how they looked on me. At 28 I got my first grays and they are silver and I have never touched them never will ❣️
Glasses are so much fun and such a great way to accessorize your outfit. My favorite glasses are my red ones. I always get so many compliments on them.
Oh my…I am 27 and I work with 4 women who all turned 70 within 3 months of each other…they all look modern..take care of themselves and are fit and health conscious…they are all up to date in ideas, news/event and the nursing care they give patients. They are all from vastly different backgrounds…nothing you says applies …get sick and see who you want to be at your bedside. And for goodness sakes loose the “cute” patronize in attitude! Miss RN 27
I have to agree with all your tips except coloring your hair lighter. I see too many middle aged and older women who go blonde and it doesn't flatter them and they end up looking like they are "trying" to look young. I'm a natural dark brunette and lighter hair is not flattering on me at all. I also think a mistake brunettes make is going too dark...it's harsh and aging. Great video! I especially have to agree with Bermuda shorts...I don't think I've ever seen anyone look good in those.
Capri pants will never go out of style because people that don’t want to show their knees and wear short-shorts once you’re past 70, but are too hot to wear long pants in the summer, will wear pedal pushers or capris no matter what you say or think in your 30s.
I totally agree with you about the bulky shoes, especially when worn with feminine skirts and dresses. Ugh!! However, some of your other choices are debatable, especially the cardigans. Cardigans can actually slim your frame when added to a sleeveless dress-the key is choosing the correct length and color. Just a thought…❤️
i really wish bloggers would just stick to giving fashion advice about what's flattering to your body type or skin tone or what to wear to certain events and what jewelry to wear with certain necklines and stuff and how to match colors, etc. can we stop assuming people are trying to look younger, or taller or thinner. sometimes poeple need to look older, or at least look their age cuz they naturally look decades younger then they actually are. looking young isn't as much of a blessing as some poeple think it is.
Agree with all your points. As a petite, capris make me look even shorter so do clunky shoes. I have embraced my salt and pepper hair though. As a busy late 50s person it was too much to keep on top of the roots etc. Now my hair is so much more healthy and shiny without all the processing. Luckily my profession in healthcare doesn’t downgrade a person too much based on their age.
But I just watched a different "2022/2023 Style expert" who stated the opposite. She says the new Paris trends are Mary Jane's, chunky, bulky shoes, large floral prints and embellishments on eyeglasses. Ladies, select what you love in the colors that work for you. Forget the trends.
@@Jonaontheradio You make no sense so everyone’s taste is the same?? Just the same with people, You may not be attractive to some people but yet to someone else you may be the most beautiful thing they’ve ever seen. Do yourself a favor stop being a follower🙄
Agree with most of these , HOWEVER , barrettes are so in style right now and so are bermudas , and there’s a million cool ways to wear both of those things sooooo I’m gonna do it !
I hate jean bermudas. But right now I see a lot of tailored, linen or other light weave bermudas and those look great. With all her "hip" style Shea proves over and over again that in reality she is really traditional and never thinks outside the box. Oh well.
I loved her observations about capri pants - I have long had the same thoughts. And I also thumbs up her other great tips about dated and unbecoming styles. As for hair - for me, getting/being old (I am turning 77) is not about trying to make your face look younger, though, it is more about looking good - to yourself. So that you feel most comfortable about yourself. Grey can actually, as Shea says, happen at any teen-age to adult age. I barely have any grey strands, so acquaintances keep asking me if I color my hair. And I don't like that they think I do; the reality is I actually would like to be grey. I think, as said in this video, lighter shades are more complimentary to an older face.(And it happens that I can't lighten any more because for some reason that now turns my hair to orange.Which I do not want. ) But I think people who have grey should revel in the becoming aspect of the beautiful light silvery grey (or white) frame to their faces, without worrying about whether they look older or younger. Because they might just happen to look their age AND look Lovely.
@@Jonaontheradio To me the aim in this area has, for most of my adult life, been to be healthy, fit, and as pleasant as possible to look at. Those three are in no way synonyms to "young" and, sadly, many who are young are none of those (though it is mostly , but definitely not entirely, up to them). Fortunately, inner radiance, which is the most beautiful attribute of all, is also the most available by choice - by one's own will and effort to be strong, positive and consistently kind - for all the ages, from 3 to 103 and plus. I begin with 3 because I've seen little 3 year-olds begin to make such choices.
It got to 115 degrees where I live this summer. So the youngsters have decided that, if I’m not comfortable showing mid thigh on down, I have to wear long pants? Yeah, that doesn’t work for me. I see these young people producing video after video about what older women should & shouldn’t wear. Frankly, it’s tiresome. I doubt they’d respond favorably if we started doing videos about how some of their fashion choices are extremely unflattering, e,g. shapeless dresses & ruffles formerly reserved for 5-yr olds.
I actually agree with alot of this. I'm 52, and while I love being this age and have no issues with getting older, I also very much want to stay up with the times in my apparel. It just looks like I still care. I think what she's saying is that as we age and become more comfortable in our skin, which is a good thing, sometimes we go a little too far on that spectrum and just adopt an attitude of "this is my age. I don't care anymore." Just my two cents.
Well, you are exactly right. In your “own” opinion. Until you go through menopause and all that goes with growing older, your “opinion” on these styles is just that. An opinion. Good for those in your age bracket. Not so much for older women.
I agree with you....does she even mention THE jeans with all those HOLES!! She had some on on another video I saw and the knees were totally out! I think they look disgusting and in my opinion you look unkept! 🤪
Thanks for sharing your opinion. Keep in mind that some people have no options on what to wear and have no wardrobes. The important thing is to wear whatever is available and thank God for it. Grey hair is a blessing and gift from God. 🙏
Lighter hair colors don't suit everyone. They tend to look brassy on darker hair, which is an instant aging factor IMO. And you can totally get modern-looking frames these days...
I dress to make myself happy, not follow what TH-camrs or fashion trends. Do you always insult your over 40 watchers ? Are you the fashion police? Wow as this video goes on you get more insulting...... amazing that you spent 2 whole hours doing research. As a woman who can't wear contacts but have worn glasses since a third grade , I think finished with your channel.
I will have to disagree with your comments about gray hair. I have very dark hair and have been dying it since I was 20 to cover grays. I am now almost 50 and decided to stop coloring it. I have let it go gray without going lighter. My hair is silvery white and looks fresher and younger than when I was coloring my hair. I think it is more about stying and haircut than color.
Totally agree. How dare she criticise grey hair. She could have said perhaps a shorter hairstyle would look better than long. I'm not going to watch any more of her videos. She's judgemental and has no idea of growing older.
Shea, I’m in my 70s and must wear low-heeled shoes. I also have swelling of my feet and legs. I used to wear ballet flats, but now they highlight the swollen skin bulging out from the vamp area. After much searching, I discovered Enzo Angiolini Liberty flats (also by Bandolino). They look narrow-ish, but somehow disguise and accommodate the extra width and thickness of the older foot. The vamp rises to a point that camouflages the swollen top of the foot. These shoes can look quite dressy or casual. When it comes to really being dressed up, Manolo Blahnik’s Listony low-heeled pumps are wonderful. They may be discontinued, but other brands with similar looks are really great. Eileen Fisher and Bellini have similar low pumps with elegant lines.
I've had some Enzo's, most comfortable platforms ever!! I have spurs in my toe joints and other feet issues, 2 hip replacements so stable shoes are a must!!
Agree with everything (especially capris & Bermudas) aside from dying your hair lighter to make grey fade away. I’ve gone lighter before and it’s not flattering. Sometimes you’re just meant to be a dark brunette and deal with the upkeep. 🤷🏻♀️ Helps to be tall where most people can’t see your roots 😂
They do say there's a shade of blond for everyone. Most who don't think they can be blond use too warm of a tone. If you're naturally dark haired, you probably need a very cool, ashy blond with high and low lights- lots of upkeep. I just let mine go silver. I look older, but the only upkeep is a purple shampoo a few times a month.
I have dark hair (almost black). I can't go so light that my grays don't show. The upkeep on that would be ridiculous! I'm about to get a coppery balayage for the first time! Wish me luck!
while I agree with some of your thoughts I really wish you would stop hitting on us older women. it's like you can't say what we do well. or that other age groups have their shit together. so sad
Makes an incredible difference what top you were with capris, like what you wear with chunky shoes, like how you style your hair - Vintage or outdated styles are never out of style - it is how we as women feel when we choose what we want to wear at that moment and if we are feeling sexy, we can rock those capris and if we feel beautiful, we bring any flower dress to life even if worn with chunky shoes. We should not focus on the word old in the title, bcz it's her opinion - we as women of all ages know we can rock any of those looks mentioned, we just have our own ways of styling our moods 😁✌️
I’m 57, and I’m just not getting rid of my capris🤣. I do add lighter highlights, but not quite ready to go light all over yet. All very interesting and fun to consider. Mainly I’m thankful to be my age and that I’ve made it this far.💃🏻
Well said! Agree!!😉
Right! Girl I'm 33 and plan on rocking every age!
Spot on ❤️
I think that the more appropriate term would be to aim to look modern.

Love this reply!
I am also 69 and to me it's a matter of choice if you feel comfortable in something then wear it.
How old are you?
Couldn't finish watching, her choice of words was way off
That's true!
Well, we have to consider that she only gave suggestions, we decide what and how to wear.
Goodness.
Great post..so well said.
Amen! Hallelujah! Best comment!
Thank you
This has to be the absolute BEST response! I totally agree! 🥰
Ageism is real!
Actually a lot of the style she describes as „out“ are coming in again. That’s the cycle of fashion

I think a better title would’ve been “10 fashion mistakes that make you look outdated” and dwelled less on looking “youthful” or “younger”.
Thank you for being kind
Fr - a woman in her 30s giving this advice? Who is her audience? 30somethings who want to look like college kids?
After watching fashions change over the last 40 years, I'm not outdated. I'm leading the trend by 5 years or so.
LOLOLOLOL!! I hope you kept your 1970s stuff because it keeps coming back in style!
I don’t think she means it to be superficial. She seems very sweet . I don’t think she means for people to take it so personally …..

I agree
I hope my comment makes sense, English is not my first language ! ;)
I'm wearing a cardigan on my dress to go to church while watching this video
Your coment makes sense and I agree with you
I agree with you so so much!! Quite frankly, I think people should wear whatever makes them feel like their best selves. We’re all unique; and as much as I love fashion, I love to see a person’s unique expression. ♥️
Totally agree with you. This vid is trash.
All humans are the
descendants of the son of perdition. The reason humans are in a fallen world with descendant minds and bodies is because they are descendants of the son of perdition of original sin. When human's die they return to the son of perdition's soul. All humans are a part of the son of perdition's stolen soul.
Amen!
so many young one's pay a lot to have that grayish tints for their hair now...
Some young woman want grey hair. 😂 Like they dye it. It's a cool look.
The great part about having lived through life is to realize how little this fashion stuff matters.
Why are you here? I loved her advice and I'm 68!
💯👍👍👍 Definitely!!!
Yet, here you are. The topic mattered enough for you to comment 💀
And how stupid and shallow fashion is. As are the people obsessed with it.
I don't think that is her intention. I get what she means, but I guess we aren't all alike🤷🏻♀️
Yes
To a degree I think you are right. The pressure to stay looking young is wrong. But on the other hand: you feel better looking fresh and ‘hip n groovy’. Do people still say that? Guess I’m prehistorian 😂
Yes
You are right
I'm sixty, and guess what ...
Age-shaming is a problem with younger people, and sadly it is not frowned upon. 😔

That doesn't mean they are not out of date!
Try The Daily Connoisseur, Jennifer L. Scott. She is the vlogger/blogger to watch. Class act.
I hear that.
Liked this video! I’m 67 & have been making the “better” fashion choices by instinct for years now. 💯agree with all you mentioned! Not only makes you look younger but IMHO more classic &fashionable 😀
...and happier!
Age-shaming is pretty outdated too…any kind of shaming to be fair.
Exactly.
I don’t think she’s age shaming, I just think there’s better options out there for women my age (50’s ) and older than to dress like our grandmas did.
If you don’t appreciate the helpful hints, then why watch this TH-cam channel ? 🤷🏼♀️
She's not age shaming. She is giving other options. Picking everything apart is certainly out dated 😉
I didn't feel any shaming from this...🤷🏻♀️

I also live in the Pittsburgh area and absolutely love your quirky sense of humor. So happy I am a subscriber 🙂
I disagree about brunettes going lighter as they age. Not all brunettes look good with blonde hair. I've seen brunettes go blonde and look much older than they really are.
Yea it's more of a generalized recommendation...obviously everyone is different! :)
Warm tone skin looks great with deep hair colors...cool skin looks better with lighter hair colors...neutral skin tones can go either way...
Yes if you have dark skin going blond is not always a good option…
If anything dark hair is supposed to (and usually) makes you look younger :)

The alternative to old is dead. I heard death isn’t a flattering look.
I agree. This spewing of ageism is so offensive.
Yeah she's so old 30 something, right
'mature' alternative to 'older'
Yesss!!! I get what is always in fashion, staple cool pieces that always look great and simple.

then why are you watching a video on fashion and style if you don't care.
Why are you even watching the video! You read the title, jezz

You are as young as you feel. Trying too hard to look younger actually ages people faster and look desperate.
@@littlelady7843 very true!
It is absolutely a gift that not everyone receives 😏
Hi, It’s not about the age, it’s the tailoring (i.e construction of the outfit to fit your natural body proportions and silhouette. It’s your body, tailor all your clothes to fit you instead of trying to fit into the clothes) and styling (I.e steaming your outfit from the inside out to remove creases, choosing color combinations in your skin undertone, mixing textures, shapes, wearing proper underwear etc). With those two things done correctly you can make any outfit work whether you’re young or old. Works for any age group! Also, I have these tips that I think you guys might like:
Agree with this! Find Shea is generally interesting but really beginning to think she is an expert in her opinion
She’s still offering real tips, and I can see she is not trying to speak negatively. Just don’t watch if you’re feeling offended. 😌
I think it's all in your attitude! Anyone can rock something dope if they own it!
I agree with most of your points with the exception of cardigans. A good fitting cardigan (not chunky oversize) is a classic wardrobe essential.
Same with barrettes. Multiple rows of them are very in now… not maybe a single, tame one, but many, big, with sparkles. It’s everywhere in fashion.
After watching this, I feel like setting fire to my closet. If you live long enough, you, too, will get old. You are what you are. You can't outrun yourself. Better just to wear what we want and stop making us feel ashamed of what happens naturally.

But rich dark brown hair is associated with the hair still having great pigment which correlates with youth!

i don’t normally post comments like this but am still rocking all of these and people still say I am like 19-20 it’s not about the clothes you wear is about how fresh your skin looks NO MAKEUP AND LOTS OF WATER IS THE WAY FORWARD!!
I love that you said no makeup. 👍 I am so tired of the makeup look. I personally think it ages the face anyways.
Doubt.
It’s all about personal choices is all
Just keep in mind ladies that these things “really age you” IN HER EYES. She’s saying this as though these are rules and are the opinions of everyone. It is literally just HER opinion
I think these "experts" think that millions of people desperately want to look just like them. It's actually kind of bizarre.
She said more than once it was just her opinion
@@Kay-uy4xn There are already more than enough people in this world making bank by preying on the insecurities of middle aged women. Is adding one more insulting "opinion" really productive? I don't think so.
@@Sim-lp6ml Putting on your makeup with a trowel tends to create that effect. 😉 Of course, that's just my "opinion."
As is everyone on TH-cam. Lol
Hmmm, a little ageist here...maybe "Aging" and "Older" could be replaced with make you look "more chic" or "more contemporary"?
When did being older become something so terrible that we need a video about not looking it. I feel offended by this video and I’m not they type of person offended by pretty much anything. I feel disappointed now
I’m sure she meant “old fashioned” instead of just “old.” Certainly there’s nothing wrong with looking old.
It’s always been that way where have you been? That’s why people are always looking for the eternal fountain of youth.
I use root cover up. No one knows when I need a touch up
I’ve been a subscriber and generally like your content. But I understand that’s where you get your sponsorships…
I am Asian with black hair (and some grey now) with warm undertone and turning blonde will not make me or the general population “younger” but inappropriate.
@@MartynaNoise I agree with you, that's why I follows Erin Busbee
Thanks for the tips. Think I'll embrace my grays while wearing bedazzled glasses and donning clunky shoes and capris.
To each their own but no way jose
It's funny because growing up if your pants were to high up the ankle they were called "Highwaters" and you got made fun of. So girl wear what looks good on you period. Capris and Bermuda shorts look really good on me but pants that are above my ankle or shorts too close to the knee or below them are really uncomfortable and look horrible on me too me so I don't wear them. (The Bermudas I have are not touching my knees)
Who decided what looks young? Destroy the rules! Don't propel them!
Yes!!!!
I am 5’1 with a small torso. Wearing oversized anything makes me look bulky and frumpy. I can’t just wear an oversized cardigan or blazer 😱
And the smaller dainty print patterns scream “little girl” to me more than other stuff here.
I agree with your comment. She is way out of line with her "opinions" here
Full of herself - I worry about her when she gets older. Like many others have said - aging is a privilege - age with grace
And I don't know the diff between capris and just rolling/cuffing your pants which everyone does!
absolutely agree
Totally agree !, I'm 69 and people always say I'm smart and casual and very up to date always been young at heart..I had to switch this lady off because she's very patronising! She must be all of 45 ?.. really annoyed me .....😊😅
Unfortunately capric are very frumpy. I got rid of mine a couple of years ago. Every time I see someone in them I'm glad I got rid of them. I'm 69 and try to look well put together.
@@janetjeans3 haha she SAYS she is in her 30s. Riiight
None-the-less, she's pointing out that those fashions often make us look old and that there could be better alternatives.
Glasses look better than contacts on older people.
Wrong on the glasses. As you get into your 70’s, stylish glasses actually cover some wrinkles and make you look younger.
Good points! I am on board for 9/10. Don't judge me but I still like cardigans.
Nothing wrong with cardigans. I love them too!
Shea literally sells cardigans in her other videos. You’re fine! 😅
@@jerseyjulia hey if Bethenny Frankel can wear cardigans so can I. She was wearing one on Instagram the other day and she looked great.
me too
It feels like I'm reading watching a fashion magazine, which is practically helpful for women in their 30s-40s
A good, small plain cardigan over a dress is classic. And with pearls.
Great video! I'm 49 and embraced my natural grey hair a few years ago. I know it makes me look older and I'm probably mistaken for a grandmother when seen with my eight year old son. But not having to dye my hair anymore is so freeing.
an also do a Dolly Parton & where wigs. She has a wig for everyday & then some. she says she never has a bad hair day!
At 28 I got my first grays and they are silver and I have never touched them never will ❣️
I have been wearing glasses for solid 20 years now and they have not diminished my appeal at all.
Glasses are so much fun and such a great way to accessorize your outfit. My favorite glasses are my red ones. I always get so many compliments on them.
I walked into a telephone pole when I was young because I didn’t want to wear my glasses.
I see a lot of older women who wear unflattering shades of red hair dye.
If you look good in it....wear it!...now a days it's not about what is in or out...everyone should just have their own style
Capri pants will never go out of style because people that don’t want to show their knees and wear short-shorts once you’re past 70, but are too hot to wear long pants in the summer, will wear pedal pushers or capris no matter what you say or think in your 30s.
I agree with the Clark’s shoes being so great. I would add Vionics as well!!
I agree about the cardigans. Goodness me, the twin set was practically synonymous with older ladies years ago, hardly 'little girls' wear.
i really wish bloggers would just stick to giving fashion advice about what's flattering to your body type or skin tone or what to wear to certain events and what jewelry to wear with certain necklines and stuff and how to match colors, etc. can we stop assuming people are trying to look younger, or taller or thinner. sometimes poeple need to look older, or at least look their age cuz they naturally look decades younger then they actually are. looking young isn't as much of a blessing as some poeple think it is.
I've embraced my gray and let me tell you, I've never been happier. The positive feedback is over-whelming.
One thing I can agree with, thank God most of us do not follow fashion trends because it would be a boring world we would all look alike 🙄
Sharing ideas to avoid unflattering clothing is making us all look alike? Count me in on her team, please, LOL!
@@Jonaontheradio You make no sense so everyone’s taste is the same?? Just the same with people, You may not be attractive to some people but yet to someone else you may be the most beautiful thing they’ve ever seen. Do yourself a favor stop being a follower🙄
Most people do follow fashion trends or at least enough do. Otherwise, the fashion industry wouldn’t be booming as much as it has.
Agree with most of these , HOWEVER , barrettes are so in style right now and so are bermudas , and there’s a million cool ways to wear both of those things sooooo I’m gonna do it !
So true! They are everywhere. I will rock them both.
I hate jean bermudas. But right now I see a lot of tailored, linen or other light weave bermudas and those look great. With all her "hip" style Shea proves over and over again that in reality she is really traditional and never thinks outside the box. Oh well.
I have beautiful Barrets and get compliments all the time! They don't look anything like my 4 year olds hair bows either.
@@millennialodyssey5956 barrettes are for people with hair. 🤣I don't know where she got the idea that they are for kids only.
The thing is, that looking aged is generally not looking better. So, saying that a goal is to look younger means to look more refreshed.
Yes I agree - it's definitely not for EVERYONE! Just something to think about though!
You should be embarrassed you made this video
I dress to make myself happy, not follow what TH-camrs or fashion trends. Do you always insult your over 40 watchers ? Are you the fashion police? Wow as this video goes on you get more insulting...... amazing that you spent 2 whole hours doing research. As a woman who can't wear contacts but have worn glasses since a third grade , I think finished with your channel.
Decent enough tips. I will forever love my cardigans, grey hair and Mary Janes.
Try Geox shoes
Mary Janes were a style also worn in the 1920s. It's not a childish style.
I agree. I look better with darker hair. I just spray the roots with root touchup between salon visits.
@@dianevioletta1408 100%!!! Brown eyeshadow also works in a pinch 😉
Yes!!!! I've tried it before, and I'm just not meant to be a blonde.
