    Battle of the titans. The Mate 40 pro regular night shots are insanely good, but the sky is too blue during the day. The selfie is nice a wide on the Mate, but the rear ultra wide is narrow. Awesome comparison Grant 👍

    First of all, you did an absolutely phenomenal comparison video. You did better than most (if not all) techbloggers/techsites
    Here's what I've got to say on the results:
    - Portraits / Close ups (Daylight): a win for Mate 40 Pro here. Its shots are detailed and (amazingly) without depth estimation errors
    - Portraits / Close ups (Low light): Shooting portraits can sometimes be tricky and Mate 40 Pro doesn't have OIS on its main cam, and it shows its weakness here.
    - Main Cam & Ultra Wide (daylight): S21 may seem to have better dynamic range & livelier pictures, but there is something about Mate 40 Pro's colour profile & tonality that brings warm feelings to my heart (pun intended).
    When it comes to per pixel detail tho, S21 Ultra is a bit disgusting, too much oversharpening all over the place.
    Main Cam & Ultra Wide (Low light): night modes off, Mate 40 Pro SQUASHED S21 Ultra. However with night modes on, Mate 40 Pro doesn't seem to be gaining advantage, whereas S21 ultra gains lots.
    - Zoom Battle (all light conditions): Mate 40 pro gives a good fight given its lack of extra zoom lenses, gotta give the slight edge to s21 ultra here
    And I don't really pay too much attention on video quality because in my smartphone storage, there are tens of thousands of pictures but only 70 videos. So I don't shoot videos unless it's extremely important.
    Thank you for this vid, brother. I'm buying a Mate 40 pro soon enough

    Oversharpening going on with most of the S21 shots, I am amazed with the most of the shots of Mate 40 pro except first minute video inside your studio specially how mate 40 was showing your face skin tone red or something.

    Aside from night time video, the Mate 40 beats the S21 Ultra in essentially every scenario. Mate 40's low light video is expected to be so so since its main camera has no OIS, which helps a lot with video in challenging situations.

    Mate 40 Pro put up a great fight. That sensor reeeeally packs a punch. Huawei still has this distinctive color profile with saturated blues, crushed shadows and deep blacks. Not my cup of tea, but I can see it being more appealing to an average user. Samsung really dialed down its saturated, contrasty colors from the past & has gotten really good at retaining highlights. Much much less clipping and overexposure this year. Imho Samsung takes it, but it really isn't that big of a difference. The color profile, white balance, flexibility (ultrawide on the Huawei is kinda...not so wide? maybe it's just me) in the photo department makes Samsung better choice while Samsung is amazing in video. Second only to Apple... Great comparison sir, keep em coming!
    Cheers!

    Grant, I take product photos for ebay, almost all of the photos taken with the S21 Ultra turn out to be vibrant in color, which is a bit deceiving to customers viewing my products. Especially closer up, the resulting photo is overly bright and overly vibrant. Any recommendations? Its probably ideal taking flowers where they appear more vibrant than it is in its currently lighting environment, but for product photos, when colors are overly vibrant, it appears a bit deceiving. I need a way to correct this.

    • @GrantLikesTech
      @GrantLikesTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try turning off scene detection. If that's not enough, then you can edit the photos in apps like Google Photos or Snapseed, and turn down the saturation and other settings to get the look you're after.

  • @mohammadabedin4475
    @mohammadabedin4475 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    As someone whose used both, I can recommend both phones. I feel that Huawei has a tendency to oversaturate but with a little patience when using the camera can lead to excellent results. On the other hand I love the white balance on the Samsung and some of the internal software that is associated with smooth auto zoom transitions, however I am not a fan of it's camera UI as you often have to go into camera settings to change the setup when taking certain pictures which the Huawei Ai recognizes automatically. Overall I recommend the Huawei overall as a phone but if only you're not attached to Google. Yes I still use Google by creating website shortcuts on the main screen but the convenience of the app is gone. It's a shame that the US sanctions essentially destroyed the future of probably the best phone I ever used only because Huawei was winning the 5G race.

    • @mohammadabedin4475
      @mohammadabedin4475 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@roboticvenom1935 Samsung expects to make great phones and there is no denying that. However Samsung makes dozens of different phone models every year and their resources do get thinly spread out. Same reason they had a phone that would blow up. I have owned a Samsung from s4 all the way to s9+ and s9+ was my tipping point of failures: Phones overheat, even if you close apps, they run in the background unless you go to settings and force stop them, and worst of all my phone would simply say system not responding and would shut at random times. Own a huawei for the last 3 years, still as smooth as butter.

    • @GrantLikesTech
      @GrantLikesTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the detailed thoughts. I agree the Huawei camera app isn't as convenient to use, and also hope their mobile division gets a fair chance here in the future as they are always leading innovation and pushing the competition.

    • @roboticvenom1935
      @roboticvenom1935 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mohammadabedin4475 That's brutal, guess you got in before their software became good.
      Samsung didn't even have the best phones exactly from s4-s9+ especially. The s21 ultra by all accounts is the best phone out there and generally stomps huawei and oneplus. I have the N20U and it's smooth as silk, EVERYONE rates OneUI 2.0 and up above EMUI(memeUI) lmao which is way behind. They don't have the basic feature all phones have(besides iPhones) where you can swipe down in the home screen to pull down notification panel, aren't one hand or really even two hand friendly and are missing general polish. Huawei is scaling down their business it'll only get worse from here on out.

    • @roboticvenom1935
      @roboticvenom1935 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GrantLikesTech Agreed huawei is very innovated and they pioneered periscope zoom cameras on smartphone before samsung did! It's just now samsung is doing it better. The ban that was placed on them really killed them but even outside of that vivo and oppo were gaining hard on them.

    There must be something wrong with your S21 I believe. I have the regular S21 and I never had any of these edge detection issues in portrait mode.
    What I do have (and you apparently aswell) is this jitter when shooting video. Actually, for me the viewfinder loses a lot of frames if simply panning around without shooting anything. It's really annoying.

    • @sosiehtesaus2652
      @sosiehtesaus2652 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is, I think the software versions are different everywhere. At the moment the Exynos model seems to have an advantage again. The edge detection also works very reliably for me.You have to slightly adjust the angle of the camera for objects that are a little further away in order to get the perfect result.

  • @deadlyalliance8281

    Saw a trend most of the video. Samsungs main shooter wins for everything. And I mean everything. Portrait mode, dynamic range, night shots and day light and low light video(esp low light video and night shots) detail went back and forth in day light pictures with them. Hauwei has the better ultra wide(until you use night mode for Samsungs, then it brings alot of detail back) and hauwei wins for zoom. Samsungs selfie cam is much better. Doesn't make skin look like smooth clay and retains more detail on the main center subject. If samsung could update their stabilization for video with the zoom Lens's, they would take the entire crown. These are my top two favorite mobile phone makers(used to own a hauwei now im on the 21 ultra bandwagon🤙) 12 pro max still wins for king of day light video though
    Edit: after watching the entire video it's actually really impressive by samsung. In alot of these instances they wiped the floor against the mate 40 pro. That's wild. The ultras selfie fell apart in night time 4k video for stabilization. It did however have better dynamic range and detail.

    It's difficult to have a definitive opinion as the S21Ultra had (at least) 4 firmware updates since it's out. From my point of view and comparing with my previous phone (P40 Pro) S21Ultra beats almost every point. P40 Pro's advantage like all LatestHuawei flagships is the possibility to take shots in low light without night mode (but colors are usually yellowish).

    • @roboticvenom1935
      @roboticvenom1935 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      p40 Pro has had several updates, before these updates the s21 ultra had an extremely similar camera. The main thing the updates fixed was a BUG on the s21 ultra that had extreme noise in normal photos, it was literally a bug lol.
      The s21 ultra has a way better night mode, FACT, WAY better front-facing video FACT, WAY better front-facing camera, FACT, better low light video, FACT, Better zoom overall(3x and 10x telephoto), Normal photos trade blows(Huawei has more black crush/deeper blacks, more saturation, preference) Huawei has better portrait mode in daylight, worse in night time.
      So overall the Samsung is clearly better and at least even. Only a complete retard would believe the P40 pro beats it in almost every point, moron. Take a look, not even CLOSE. Night mode 15:02 15:06 (Colors on huawei are as usual way off in night time, nasty yellow hue) 16:20 etc. I can provide timestamps of other sbut if you watch the video in honesty everything I said is true

  • @CallumBlue88
    @CallumBlue88 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So..... Audio recording (with reducing the background noise) is better on Mate 40 Pro. Main rear camera (picture) - I like both of them but, a little bit more like S21 Ultra (60%), than Mate 40 Pro (40%). Ultrawide is definitely wider on S21 Ultra. Zoom is very good on both (I meant about optical zoom only, not digital :). Selfie/Front camera (video recording) - I would say S21 Ultra for 75% and Mate 40 Pro 25%, because of too much light detection (which he checked) and blurs the video picture. About 'Night Photos' - Samsung always had really great "night mode", but Huawei was and still is, the best at night photos (without night mode) :) I like Samsung's option - normal and night mode, but Huawei is of course the champ of night photos with great details. Anyway - 1 thing I don't get it. Why he didn't check 4k 60fps (wasn't tested)? If you have Flagship phones (which cost A LOT), and you can do great video at 4k 60fps, so why you don't use it? Really weird. Anyway - summarizing my statement. If someone force me to buy one of these 2, I'm guessing it would be S21 Ultra. Why? Because Mate 40 Pro price is retarded. I would definitely choose the Mate 40 Pro... but only, if it would be cheaper (about ~20% cheaper), because the price (specially for Mate 40 Pro Plus version) is sick. Best Regards.

      @CallumBlue88 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@roboticvenom1935 Huawei has that kind of camera, which doesn't need "night mode", because is doing fantastic job in dark areas which any other phone can't do. Mate 40 with Night Mode on, it's still very nice but, the thing which you mention is true. S21 Ultra's night mode is helping to get the greater photo much better, than Mate 40's night mode. S21 Ultra is really great phone.

    • @roboticvenom1935
      @roboticvenom1935 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CallumBlue88 That's true but problem is without night mode the huawei looks terrible! Even though it looks much better then samsung due to the sensor size, they both look too bad without night mode!
      So like everyone they use night mode to get good shots, and that's where the samsung takes better photos. Most people use night mode so I'd give the win overall to samsung. But, huawei does have that nice edge if you need to take a photo super quickly

    Weird to say but Samsung seem to be going down the more natural colour look. Where as before they was more notorious for saturation to give more pleasing colours to its users.
    Id be getting a huawei when I upgrade, unless Sony can up there game.
