Though I must say, through the years it's really impressive to see Apple's development with their phones and even more impressive accessories. I've actually gone the other way. After 10 years of Android (most recently the S20 Ultra), I've jumped back to my first iPhone since iPhone 4 and there's something mentally quite pleasant and refreshing about the experience. I don't feel as restricted as I thought I would be. With Android, sometime you can have too much choice and an endless landfill of barely useable 3rd party apps to the point where i'd find myself tinkering with things almost for the sake of tinkering. They can feel so bloated with junk, even from new. The iPhone just feels smooth, streamlined and less cluttered.
I'm completely on the fence though. I think both are great (I've kept hold of my S20 Ultra as a back-up) and it always amuses me to see Android and Apple fans fighting over incredibly similar, and equally amazing, devices.

One thing I've noticed since switching to an iPhone is their excellent standby time. I'm not a heavy user, and most of the times I could get away with 3 days without charging and still have around 20% juice left. This has never happened with any Android phone I've ever owned. I was also surprised to see how polished iOS is. This may sound unbelieveable but I've never had the iPhone stuck or hitch, and I mean literally never. Whereas Androids just aren't as smooth, there will be annoying stutters and lag here and there, even with the latest and greatest hardware.

Granted, Samsung has drawbacks, but neither are significantly better, professional, or even good as far as true dedicated cameras go. You pay for convenience and gimmicks that are rendered null when it's the only device you have with no point of reference and will likely be happy regardless of the platform.

Switched from s21 ultra to iPhone 13 pro max. Been using android for 13 years. After seeing 120htz and the premium build quality on the 13 I wanted to finally give apple a shot. So far I’ve noticed why people use apple. Apps feels way more polished and the whole feel is so premium that I cannot explain. For me iPhone 13 wins when it comes to build quality and looks. I’ve been an iPhone user since the original iPhone, though I wouldn’t consider myself a fanboy. My husband is 100% an Android user. I do occasionally find myself jealous of some of the features and customization options he has, but at the same time, whenever you lose something from using one over the other, you also gain something. For example, our house has a lot of “smart” features (lights, TV, air conditioning, etc). He has gotten his android to work with it all, but things are just more seamless on my iPhone. Not to mention, he finds himself needing to upgrade at least every two years while I tend to hang on to my iPhone for 3.

Great review. Thank you. I'm leaning towards the iphone, but that extra strong telephoto lens capability of the Samsung, not just 3x but also 10x (And did I hear you say something about 30x?), that is so tempting. The real estate of the Samsung screen seems to be maximized better, right up closer to the edge, but somehow the Apple still looks wider, can you tell me which actually has the wider usable/viewing screen? IOther things equal, I'd rather have slightly wider than slightly taller). Lastly, I don't like the smudgy sides of the iphone, but the graphite does seem to hide any smudges better, do you think? And I've never used a case b/c they always seem too thick, though I've never had a high end phone either, but a case on the iphone would hide the smudgy sides, are the cases pretty thin, or do they really make the iphone noticeably more bulky? I would greatly appreciate any insights on the above. Either way, thanks again for a great review, very useful! Thumbs up!

Very nice, objective review. Great visuals, great narration and sound quality. Both of these phones are ridiculously expensive, but it is nice to know (I suppose) that they both deliver something special for that outrageous price tag. Don't be surprised if Apple goes all-MagSafe and does away with the Lightning port altogether. That may sound crazy, but I wouldn't be surprised if MagSafe incorporates data traffic (they already do with the M1 iMac with Ethernet port embedded in MagSafe). But that's probably not going to materialize for another one to three years, according to rumors. I'd be happier with USB-C or even Thunderbolt, but Apple would probably never do that. The Galaxy S21 UItra is an impressive phone. Too bad each phone is locked into its own technology ecosystem. Either way, you're forced to compromise. That's mobile technology in the early 21st century for you.

The resale issue is true. However, I don't worry about that because when I upgrade I do it through Samsung and not only do I get TOP dollar....I end up getting 2-3 NEW items FREE. apple trade in program is NOT nearly as good regardless of how much you paid for the phone. Trust me....I have experienced it. For example when I traded my Note20 Ultra for the S21 Ultra with Samsung...I got 900.00 for the phone plus FREE Galaxy pro buds(which sounds better than the Airpods pro), Free You Tube premium , and a FREE wireless charger. Apple will NEVER give you 900.00 on trade in for a phone. NO way! You are better off to sell your iphone on Craigslist or something. So in that case Samsung wins! You don't have to go through the hassle of trying to sell your phone.

Whats funny about the Samsungs being worth less after a year of use, is that they typically perform better at a year old vs a year old iPhone. One of my largest complaints about my iPhone was that after time it just seemed to perform worse and worse as it got older. I've had my s10+ since it came out and it still works like the day I got it. (Minus the battery, as all phones do the battery life has gotten a little worse over time). But any iPhone I've ever had is almost unusable after about 2yrs.

I just upgraded to the 13 Pro, and I LOVE it! Excellent battery, I love the display, and how quick it is. But, like a lot of things these days, is highly subjective. I have also owned Androids for years, and I love them. Both are great devices, and it just really comes down to preference. I prefer Apple’s ecosystem, and how well devices work with each other across the ecosystem, but if I wasn’t, I’d probably re-consider Samsung. Both Android and iOS are excellent, polished, and refined systems, and they’re so comparable on so many levels in terms of hardware and software that, to me, it’s a wash between the two. Technology is simply amazing. The amount of power and access we have to information these days is incredible. Get either one, and be happy with it. No need to bash the other because you chose one. 😊
