Hi Wilson! Welcome to my channel! I appreciate your kind words. Thank you! I have a great time making the videos, so I need to thank you for watching them! Thank you! Wilson, you have a great week! Best, -Mark
The instructions are simple straight forward so are able to be followed. I can tell you take a deep interest in plants and pride in your work. Appears it is your vocation/avocation.
Hi John! I love what I do and am always learning and love to learn too! It keeps things interesting! I'm glad you liked the video as well. Thanks for watching, commenting too! -Mark
Hi Shannon! I think a lot of people are to be honest, so you have a lot of company! The information.....you are so welcome! Thanks for watching and of course, thank you for commenting too! I hope the video helps with the hanging basket care too! -Mark
Hi Michael! Thanks for the compliment! If you get a chance, watch the video coming up in the next 4 or 5 days on some of my 12 inch combination baskets. You may find it interesting. Michael, as always, thank you so much for watching and commenting as well! -Mark
I found your channel through a tomato tour video, I'm glad I subbed! You have so much knowledge and you are a very clear and engaging teacher! Thanks for the great videos!
Hi Clarissa! Welcome aboard! Thank you for the kind words and I love to share my knowledge, but I'm always learning too. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Mark
Ohhh those hanging pots are gorgeous!!! Thanks for all the great tips. I’ve had a hard time keeping any basket past July here in TN. they are fed weekly and watered when the top is dry. I’m so glad you explained the watering mistakes, I am guilty of testing with the fingers . My petunias always end Iup browning underneath healthy foliage and within a week or so they start dying off.
Hi! I'm glad the video was helpful to you. Yes, fingers never work. Always by weight! Thanks for watching, commenting and I hope you continue watching in the future! Take care! -Mark
Hi Pat! Thank you! I appreciate that so much! The video...Pat, it's totally my pleasure. I love doing the videos and sharing my experiences as well. I have a really good one on hanging basket problems people may incur and how to solve them coming up next week. Thank you for watching and commenting too! Pat, you have a wonderful week! Best, -Mark
Hi Kevin! I don't know if people realize that they can "burn" or damage their plant roots if they use to strong a fertilizer rate to often or if they don't on occasion just clear water or flush the pot so the salts that do build up from fertilizers over time get washed out. That's very important! Kevin, thanks for watching and commenting as well! -Mark
Good sound advice. i always thought the baskets had to be watered everyday due to them loosing water fast no matter where they are placed. Learned thats not the case. Keep up the great videos.
I swear dude…the title of this video is…well…I’m just lovin’ this channel. How you made it through the fist few sentences without laughing is amazing. 10”, 12” AND 14” hanging baskets? 😉
Hi 👋 mark a very good 👍🏼 video, I also have had that problem where the water just drains to the sides so this is very helpful info and I’m going to do hanging baskets too this year and with all them flower plants there it’s giving me some ideas what to put in them, so looking forward to experimenting it this year thank you again for the great content 😃 and I’m soo happy that your doing great 👍🏼 Gabriel
Hey Gabby! How are things down under? The water draining to the sides happens a lot and I brought that up because I wasn't sure if people were aware of what was really happening with their baskets. Just remember, if the water flows through almost immediately, the peat is very, very dry and has shrunk from the sides of the basket creating a easy water channel for the water to flow to the bottom of the basket immediately. Peat when very dry almost repels water believe it or not, so you have to re-water 2 or 3 times to get the peat thoroughly wet again. Gabby, glad you got some ideas and there is another video coming out in the next week showing a lot of the combinations I did in my baskets, so possibly you may get some more ideas! Thanks Gabby! -Mark
@@marksgardenlife5971 First we are right now currently having a total Luna eclipse at 9pm Monday night and its getting very cold for our standards lol with a low of 38 tonight but the weekend much colder of about 33 to possibly 28 at night and wow thank you and i never thought that peat can do that, also i cant wait to see the next video :) because it would really help me out on what i can plant once i get my hanging baskets, all the videos that you are putting out will help me and get me ready for our spring :) Thank you again. Gabby
Thanks Mark, I've have like 10 hanging baskets since last year and we've just about to go into summer so this video was brilliant knowledge to help me prepare. I've very new to gardening so very happy I've found your channel. You're very easy to understand for a new gardener. Oh and I've had a caobracoa hanging pot for a year and didn't know what they were called so thanks for that also :)
Hi Clive! Most HB are heavy feeders, so feed them constant with a low rate or at least a few times a week full strength. Calibrachoa really like to be fed a lot and if it gets to large, trim it back. It will not hurt it whatsoever. I'm glad you are learning from the channel and I thank you for watching too! -Mark
Something happened to Mark's workout routine. During the tomato tasting (video 4 month ago) his bicepts were half the size of lifting baskets now. Looking good, congrats!
Hi Kerstin! I wish I had time to have a workout routine! Believe it or not, I do nothing. A friend told me I should never do any kind of workout because I'm naturally big enough. He may be right. Guess it's just in the genes! Kerstin, thanks for watching and always nice to hear comments too! -Mark
Great video, Mark! That 12” mixed basket is a great combination. My favorite! Do you know why hanging baskets themselves are no longer offered with a built in saucer on the bottom? That would help the water dependent plants out during summer. Cheers.
Hey Scott! The saucerless baskets with the internal saucer came around several years ago. My guess is that it is cheaper to make in the molding process. I could be wrong, but it seems manufacturers are always looking for ways to save money. I always felt the bottom external saucer worked better though. That shade combination in the 12" HB is my favorite basket we grow. It holds up incredibly all summer. Scott, thanks for being a loyal supporter of mine! I appreciate you watching, commenting too! Stay cool down there in Georgia too! -Mark
Curious why Mandevilla in a hanging basket has become popular. They are upright growers - even climbers - and don't really cascade. Don't seem, to me, particularly suited to a hanging basket. Is this a different variety?
I never have luck calibrachoa; they seem to 'peter out' mid summer. Petunias on the other hand; grow like gangsters. I have to give em a 'hair cut' mid summer. Good tip on the fertilizer; I'm one of the 'once a week' people. I'll try your method.
Hey NH! That surprises me in NH because that is the perfect weather for Calibrachoa and Petunias. Both are heavy feeders and should perform very similar. If your Calibrachoa is in a hanging basket, always keep it in a 12". Most people have them in 10" hanging baskets and it's just not big enough as the plants get large and the same goes for Petunias as well. You can even go to a 14" hanging basket and save it from year to year. Buy a 10 inch at your local garden center each spring, come home and repot it in the 12" or 14" that you have saved from the year before and you will have a much nicer basket all summer long and into frost that you didn't have to pay the 12" or 14" price for. Thanks for watching and commenting to! -Mark

Hey Mark, what liquid or water soluble fertilizers do you like to use? I live in an area where "hemp" growing was a mainstay of the economy many decades before it became legal, and walking up to the liquid fertilizer selection at any garden center is overwhelming. I try to grow only organic whether or not the plants are edible, by the way.
Thanks again for Video! I want to buy a hanging Begonias for my mother. But her balcony is in shadow. Big chestnut tree next to it. I don't know if they will grow I want to visit your greenhouse! You should have a Caffè there.!
Hi! Begonias will grow in that situation, but will not bloom as profusely as if they are getting direct morning sun. Another thing to consider is Beacon Impatiens in baskets too. We are getting ready to do a large build, so maybe we can fit that caffe in! Thanks for watching and also for sending your comments! -Mark

Everyone probably thinks I live at the gym, etc. but nope, not at all.
Anyone else find it hard to pay attention to the plants? Smart, caring, and sexy af?!? Yes please! Great job! AND great info!
