Thank you so very much Jane for teaching these tips & tricks to choosing colors. I feel like you made this video just for me…😂 I have a hard time matching colors sometimes, especially if I want more than just 3 or 4 colors. I also have trouble deciding on placement of my squares in an afghan so they are spread out & still look good. Truly appreciate you & all you do to teach us❣️ 🙋🏻♀️🦋🕊️
THANK YOU, Thank You, thank you for creating this video. Color combining has always been difficult for me. I could spend a couple of hours in a craft isle or store trying to pick colors when I want to crochet something. I’m going to make a sample box and yarn binder now and look forward to your other videos further discussing color. I’m definitely saving this video into my crochet folder.
Awesome, so glad you found this helpful, I will be doing more little colour videos like this. The desaturating trick is handy in the yarn aisle if you can't decide on a certain shade combo, pull the balls off the shelf and take pics of them together, then desaturate the image to see how close the values are. Ultimately I pick based on the colours themselves, but in the example of the red, green, caramel option, I didn't realize how close in value the red and green were, so that from a distance, they tend to blur into one colour or shape. This is why I like to do the flower petal shapes in my squares in a contrast colour, so it stands out. Enjoy and thanks for watching ❤🤗
Agreed. this saves a lot of time for me, and helps me feel more confident about my choices. I like the black and white photos of the work. so easy to do.
Jane, this is probably one of those videos that I’ll be revisiting over the years for refreshers. 😅The idea to make mini swatches is genius. As an avid knitter, I sometimes struggle to pick colours (while crocheting) even though they are similar skills. Thanks for this tutorial. ❤❤❤
Loved this video. I have a terrible time picking colors and have become very “instinctual” when shopping for yarn to make a pattern. Amazingly, your video helped me realize I’m actually using some of your suggestions. Can’t wait to incorporate even more of your ideas! Thank you!
Thanks, I used to have a yarn shop many moons ago and had ones from my suppliers, these days I figure why not just make my own! Glad you found it useful, Enjoy 🤗
This is very helpful. I usually go with what "feels right" when choosing colors because color theory has refused to take up house in my brain. But these tips will help me choose colors, and you simplify color theory to make it understandable. I especially like the segment on value. And I'm looking forward to starting the little granny square palettes. Thanks for sharing.
Many thanks, Jane, love your videos and I have learned so much from your tutorials. Really appreciate your time and generosity of sharing. Best wishes from Ireland. ❤
Thank you! ❤I’m saving this for future use. I love very bright colors and I have trouble deciding which colors go well together. Well, it’s more of a matter of color value than which colors.
I have always known your work. I can always say "that's a Jane design". I have always admired your colour choices and combos ad wondered how you came to your decisions! I love this video! And I'm looking forward to the next one! Thank you so much!!
Brilliant. First time I've understood how to go about choosing colours. I've given up finishing projects because the colours just didn't balance. Thank you. PS. Since following you I've picked the colours you have done and finished those projects. Feeling inspired.
So glad you found this helpful. It is disappointing when colours don't look the way you want them too, so I am glad that some of my colour choices have helped you complete some of your projects. I often say there is a ton of trial and error, but if I can do that so others can just jump in and get a project going then I am glad I can help.
Glad this helps, I do ALOT of trial and error and ripping out. I will be making some videos of the colour combos I use to hopefully give everyone some inspiration on more colour ideas.
You CAN see a step by step - if you are looking for how to crochet a particular pattern piece - by going to her channel, videos, or playlists and then scrolling until you find that piece. If you are looking for her thought process for combining the colors that she chose, then it’s coming and you have something to look forward to. This little pause in training will give you time to reflect on and digest the information in this video and maybe put into practice some of the thoughts in this video.
Thanks for asking, you can find the full tutorial for the Sand Dollar Squared which is the one on the cover here th-cam.com/video/c92lq0LC3Ns/w-d-xo.html, this video gives you a peek into how I choose my colours. Hope you enjoy the Sand Dollar Square tutorial and thanks for watching. ❤
