    Thanks for your ideas! I think since art is a visual medium, having visual examples ready not in a portfolio but on a “cheat sheet” helps in showcasing things .

    i recently decided to be a art teacher, coming from a graphic design background i was unsure of my choice in career. But when someone brought up being a art teacher, I felt a spark and some joy. I hope in the coming years after I finish school that I'll be able to succeed like you did

    You “knocked it out of the park” with this video again! Great advice! Two questions:
    Do you have a template for your digital portfolio? Where/when do you send this to admin?
    Also, I think a cheat sheet with pics is a great idea. What are some concrete examples of what pics to include?

    • @Managingthemess
      @Managingthemess  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I don’t have a portfolio template available at this time but I suggest using Google Sites.
      The cheat sheet will vary by your experiences but it should be photos you can use to answer common interview questions. I include collaborative artworks, personal artwork, special events I have run or supported, art show pictures, student art displays, classroom management and environment pictures- rules, posters, charts, etc.

    Literally have an art teacher job interview today! I have no teaching experience (I’m a photography major) but I love kids and arts and crafts in general. Hoping this advice gets me the job 😅

    Thank you so much! I got the job! But it wasn't a good fit so I declined, but...I have a question. All of my photos of student art have the students holding their art. Do you recommend I block their faces or just focus in on the art? Also, how many items would you recommend for the digital portfolio? Thanks DJ

      @Managingthemess  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it’s fine to leave the students photos in unless them have filled out a form not to be photographed. Zooming on n on the art is preferable to covering faces.
      The number of photos in the portfolio is really up to you. I think around 25 or so. It depends on the format and size. It should be quick to look at and get the main idea. I hope that helps! Good luck with your search!

    I have a bachelors degree in graphic design but have done two successful artist in residences at a grade school (one that I ran completely from start to finish) plus have done countless private art lessons and I REALLY want to become a full time art teacher. Do i need to go back to school to get a teaching degree?

    • @Managingthemess
      @Managingthemess  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It really depends on where you would like to teach art. There is a growing shortage of teachers so you have an advantage. I work in a large public district outside of DC and we accept teachers like yourself that would come in on a provisional license. You then have 3 years to fill in any gaps in your education and take the Praxis test to become an art teacher. For you it would be mainly education courses since your degree is in graphic design. If you are looking at a private school or depending on the state requirements art teachers might not need a certificate to teach but may make less without a formal art education degree. Look at your states education department info for more information but I’d definitely start getting your resume ready to apply this video will help- 😀th-cam.com/video/glxqsxHIRzg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=I8yoau7FATXeEtzX Good luck!

    This is my dream job!! I have some time till then, I’m currently a college student studying elementary education and minoring in art! Do you have any advice or suggestions as to what you did to get here or tips?

      You can do it! Get into schools and observe and connect with art teachers in your area. Be sure you understand what you’re getting into and that it is the right fit for you. Choose summer jobs that give you leadership and teaching experience that will allow you to practice your skills. Stay up to date with issues in schools and art education. Begin attending your state art education conference. Best of luck! You will love teaching art!!

    Now what is the best way to send a digital portfolio? A web address or something else? I don’t know what software the school uses on the search committee’s end?

      I would recommend creating a google site for your portfolio. It is easy to set up and a familiar platform for many schools.
