I will be graduating this December 2020 as an Elementary Bilingual Teacher, I applied to several schools. Next week I will have all the interviews I will comment back to keep you updated. Thank you for your advice you are amazing!! This was exactly what I needed!! Edit: I got the job!!!
“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all” one of my favorite education quotes. Just stumbled upon this video and it’s great help! Thank you!
I did my interview on a Wednesday, followed your tips and impressed the interviewers with the culture question… I got a call about a job offer the next morning!! Thank you for your awesome advice and tips.
I just interviewed for a job in your district! I recognized your superintendent from my research about the district! I wish I had seen this video before I interviewed, but after seeing how much you love your district, I’m really hoping I receive good news!
Thank you so much for these tips!! I definitely was a babbler and missed my chance but with these tips I feel a little bit better. My favorite quote is a reference to Howard Gardners Multiple Intelligence Theory : " It's not how smart you are, its how you're smart!"
Thanks for your tips! I'm a postal worker (history major however) looking to change careers into teaching and I just had my first interview for a middle school history position! Your video really helped me prepare, especially your point of telling them about yourself in terms of your education and your passion for becoming a teacher and making sure to slow down and ask questions to make things more clear when you don't understand a question :) I actually caught them smiling when I asked what an acronym was and they had to stop and think themselves giving me a few extra seconds to prepare an answer in my head. Thanks a ton for your great video! Good luck to you in this difficult time and anyone else who is interviewing for teaching jobs!-Zach
I loved the idea of selecting an educational philosophy! That is definitely a question that gets brought up that may be complex to understand for someone who is brand new! Also, double thumbs up to getting your Superintendent to make this video with you! Awesome content!
I'm interviewing tomorrow via Zoom and yes, I'm kind of cramming! Although I'm a seasoned teacher, it's been 5 years since my last interview...which was very informal. Tomorrow's experience is going to be very different in many ways and I'm feeling pretty anxious about it! I'm looking at going back into teaching Spanish Pre-K -6 (private school)...coming from current position of secondary art (public school)! I have the experience and skills set for teaching Spanish at this level but not impressive credentials to list on paper...as far as certifications, etc. I need pointers on how to sell myself/ my abilities despite having my formal education in a different domain! 😬🤷😳😎
THANK YOU! I watched your video yesterday and today I was interviewed and at the end they offer me an early contract and that is a big deal for an out of country U.S educator.
Thank you! I have an interview coming up and this video made me feel less anxious of what to expect. Like you, I get nervous and tend to ramble. I also have to practice not saying "um" lol Thank you once again!
This was great. I have an interview today and three are some great tips I’ll be adding to my notes. I have to try to impress it’s only a ten minute screening interview.
What a great video from you Miss Romero with the input of the Superintendent. You both express sincerely. I think they are useful in my teaching job hunting even though I am an immigrant! Cross my fingers. Thank you 😊
I have an interview today with an opportunity to become a substitute teacher while still working towards my degree so I feel very lucky to possibly be put in this situation, I am praying I land this job 🙏
This is not an eloquent quote but my favorite teaching teacher always said "structure their success", which is similar to your quote. This is related to scaffolding and a generally positive approach to education.
- How will you meet the needs of EL students? - how do you handle student discipline? - what accommodations should be made for students with special needs? - how do you interact with parents? - why are you a good fit for our school?
3: be ready to talk about real lessons you’ve taught - example of a lesson where you addressed kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learning styles WHY IT’S IMPORTANT FOR STUDENT LEARNING
Thank you so much for your informed advice! How unprofessional for the district to interview all of the candidates en masse as if they were contestants in a beauty pageant.😖
Thank you for watching! Unfortunately, it is a pretty common practice for interviews. I understand the need when there are so many candidates...but it is extremely awkward :(
Thank you for your helpful information in this video and for inviting your superintendent. I would love to work for him as well. What a nice gentleman! I felt so comfortable listening to him. I do not like interviews, period, but I understand that there is no other way. I like to be myself and not post for anyone.
This is the most helpful interview video I have seen yet, thank you! I am going into my senior year for elementary education and I am so glad I found your channel. :)
Hi there! Thanks so much for sharing these tips; they were super helpful! I had an interview yesterday and was offered the position! Your video helped me feel more confident. Thank you :)
One tip I have to is make sure you have a couple of good questions prepared to ask the interview panel at the end of the interview. They will always ask, “do you have any questions for us?” at the very end of the interview and make sure you have at least two questions ready to go!
@@andreaboggia7426 No worries at all! I'm glad you found it helpful and I'm glad you left this comment because it helps me to know I was onto something, lol! Thanks for watching :)
Very helpful video, Jess, thank you! I love the idea of bringing an inspirational quote to the interview. Think I'm going to go with "Teaching is more than imparting knowledge, it is inspiring change" from William Arthur Ward. Great tip, thanks again :)
I love this video. Another tip for interview is research. Look on the school website. They're bound to ask you 'Why do you want to work at this school? '
Thank you. These are some great tips. I wish I would have asked these questions at my last school. School culture was awful and support for students with behavioral issues was non existent. I'm interviewing for a new school today. I will be asking these questions.
Good things said in this video, but sadly many interviews I have had, I was courteous and passionate, but I still didn't get the job. Its really difficult to like interviews when all the interviewer wants to hear is fluff. At this point I am really struggling to understand how to be at an interview, and it's bothersome to say the least
10:15 to 10:25. Run. That is not a school you want to work at and I promise you will thank yourself for it later. When you have been unemployed for one year and you know that employers will only be less likely to hire you the longer the gap this advice is outright horrible. You simply can not afford to raise your standards that high and let things like school climate get in the way of being hired.
Any tips for someone who is already a substitute and volunteer at the school they’re applying at? I’ve been the PTO President for 4 years and have been on every committee under the sun and now interviewing for an assistant position. I will already know every person on the interview panel and they all know a lot about me so I am very nervous about how that will change the interview dynamic 😩
Hi Lindsay! That's similar to the situation I was in...I was interviewing for the 2 school districts I had substitute taught for for the past 2 years. I think it's a good thing! You know the district, you know the staff and students, you know the programs they use... I think you should use that to your advantage and talk about all the awesome things you have been able to do for the school :)
Definitely something I need to work on LOL! Watching my own videos has helped me to realize I need to slow down....this is what my students hear :/ lol. Thank you so much for the support!
Great video. Thanks for the information. I have an interview as a teacher assistant Monday. Any advice for someone with not much teacher experience besides an internship ?

“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all” one of my favorite education quotes. Just stumbled upon this video and it’s great help! Thank you!
What is Jhon F. Kennedy who said this quote?
Love this! I love that he said make it all about the kids. My quote would be “relationships first, teaching second” I believe it all stems from that.
Ahh, that's such a great tip! I totally agree :)
I did my interview on Thursday and I got the job!!!! Thanks so much for the tips
I have mine this Thursday, so I am praying that I will soon be able to echo your beautiful words🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Aw, thank you!
My dad did that with me when I was young and in college. I will always be grateful for that.❤
This is extremely helpful, thank you so so much!!! I love that you interviewed your superintendent!
So cool this superintend appeared on her video. I’d want to work there too with that level of support.
I’m student teaching right now and this is SO helpful!! Thank you!!! I will definitely keep this is my back pocket.

Thank you so much for the great tips! I have a zoom interview for a third grade position on Wednesday! My first interview ever!!!!

I have an interview with my dream district tomorrow and this was so helpful! Wish me luck💖

Listen to that man! It's not just about what you say, it's who you are, that's what I got out of his tips.
This is not an eloquent quote but my favorite teaching teacher always said "structure their success", which is similar to your quote. This is related to scaffolding and a generally positive approach to education.
1: Find a quote that represents your teaching philosophy (ground answers in that quote) tell about yourself and then weave in and introduce the quote
“The role of an educator is to arrange victories for students”
2: practice interviewing with someone you know (practice as if you don’t know them)
- How will you meet the needs of EL students?
- how do you handle student discipline?
- what accommodations should be made for students with special needs?
- how do you interact with parents?
- why are you a good fit for our school?
3: be ready to talk about real lessons you’ve taught
- example of a lesson where you addressed kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learning styles WHY IT’S IMPORTANT FOR STUDENT LEARNING

I was told asking about supports was a bad question to ask because it comes of as wanting "our hands held"
I wish you were my teacher this year 🤗
These are wonderful tips!
Great video. Thanks for the help.
So so helpful! Thank you!
This is such a great video! When did you start your channel? I teach and I’m thinking about making teaching videos as well :)
Thank you so much! I started it in January... you should totally start a channel and make teacher videos!:)
Great video! Where are your earrings from?
THIS WAS REALLY HELPFUL,
I have final interview today. I hope I get the job. Their hiring process is so hard.
What a cool principal
Fantastic concept for a video Jess, good job!
Thanks girlfriend!! :)
I mean...thanks Skyler LOL I love you guys
I watched your video the day of my interview last minute and let’s just say I was offered the job after the interview thank you ❤️❤️
Awwww congrats!!!!
Thanks so much ❤
Thank you. I have an interview today
Question, do you say the quote during the interview or just say answers around it?
Your video was helpful and different .
I'm so glad to hear that! :)
