I made cookies this weekend. The urge to ball up thise scraps and knead them back into anothe block to make more slabs with was strong
Ha! I combined them and cut them into French fry like pieces for coil pots actually 🙃
Love it and I was here first
These are such helpful tips.
Glad you like them!
The food references are fantastic
You have got to make it memorable 😂
Christmas 🤶 time 😍🤩
If you have part of a class that have to finish a project, what do you do with the rest of them who are done? This happened yesterday with 5th grade. I had maybe a quarter of the class that needed to finish a painting project but I didn't want to move on to something else and then have them behind on that, so I had the rest do coloring sheets and puzzles. I'm on a cart so I can only bring so much with me. I often times have coloring pages for early finishers, but I don't like having most of them just color (especially older kids) for the whole class period. What do you do? I know you have ketchup and pickles day, but being on a cart with 30 minute classes, that's not possible.
Sometimes I do a mini optional project so students are engaged and others can finish- think everyone helps make something for a collaborative mural, makes decorations for a display, etc. I hope that helps!

You help me so much, thank you!
You’re welcome! Happy Holidays!! ☃️
Your video is comforting to watch, especially after a strenuous week. Expectations are high and behavior can be a challenge. I love your reminders. I love to play Christmas Jazz with a snowy scene video for kids to watch. I have stayed after each day while playing the Winter music to change my room around, clean out my desk, and organize my file cabinet. Cleaning out the storage closet has helped me as well. Enjoy your winter break and take time for yourself as well. Thanks for all your time.
Thank you for your kind words! We are all working so hard. Excited for a break 😀
I appreciate your video- thanks! I do create my own demos and edit in imovie before moving over into youtube. needing to pay for extra storage was needed :(. Sometimes while the kids are working I let the video continue on a loop silently and find kids looking up now and then as reminders of what they're doing.
That is so awesome that you're using your videos like that!
Thank you, ❤️ hearing you verbalize everything I often think. I've spent a lot of my own funds for so many years. It's crazy. My budget isn't enough, and there are so many tools & supplies that are substandard and need to be replaced. I was told by a co-worker that all I need to do is use anything/everything I have floating around in the room. Then they said to go on Pinterest and find projects! That is an example of how unaware people are. I have a curriculum, goals/ objectives / standards / art history, etc! It's nice to know I am not alone and you understand and explain the issues art teachers deal with very well.
It is frustrating when people don't understand the realities of what we do. Pinterest?!?! 🤪
Thanks for the tips and behind the scenes look at every day life for teachers. It doesn't end at 3pm.
I agree - there's always something to be done!
How long is this art class? Yeeeesh, you have all this time to chat?!?
Classes for k-6 are 1 hour long
I can absolutely relate to this...20 years of it!!!😂❤
These seem like they’d be great. I inherited a set for my art room. I used Elmer’s School glue in them. So….. washed them And put fresh glue in at the start of the schooyear, and all of my glue bottles are turning green……Ido why.
🤔 did the kids glue tissue paper or green construction paper that would bleed color when it gets wet? Do you think it is mold??
I enjoy seeing all the videos and shorts you make. ❤
I appreciate you watching!
Can you share how to start using Google Keep? I've never heard of this and sounds interesting!

I am a first year art teacher and I haven't even had my first observations yet, so I do not feel so confident but your videos keep me inspired and prepared! Thank you so much!! I am now going to incorporate the 'Sit Quietly' slide and I love your K-5 Do now's on your cabinets!

What I Eat For Lunch as a Teacher #managingthemess #teacherlife #elementaryartteacher #arteducator th-cam.com/video/0wbzSxRdddI/w-d-xo.html
Ahahahaha 😂😅❤ So much like at least a few days in my week as an elementary art teacher.
True story!
Be recording demo videos is incredible. I teach high school art and the time and energy I save by having students follow pre-recorded videos is insane! Students can work at their own pace, I'm not constantly stopping to answer questions, students don't get lost when I go too fast or tune out if I'm going too slow AND I don't get annoyed when I have to beg them for their attention. Students are more engaged, empowered and I can focus on helping them elevate their work rather than just saying "do this."
It is such a game changer! Interesting to learn it works at all levels.
Thank you for making this video!! I just graduated high school a little bit ago and I was looking into being an art teacher. This gave me a good perspective on what being an art teacher entails!
You’re welcome! I hope this helps you to think about your career path. I made a video specifically for anyone thinking about being an art teacher that you might also enjoy Want To Be an Art Teacher? 10 Realities You Must Know About Teaching Art th-cam.com/video/qkTA516bIW4/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for your video! I also noticed that other "Specials" teachers think they have it the hardest. I heard our music teacher comment that in art kids at least get to work with their hands and be engaged, so they behave better in my classroom because of it. And sometimes PE coaches say that at least art teachers have one class at a time, but they have to manage multiple classes in the gym. Others comment on how naturally fun art is for kids, therefore, again, it must be easy to teach 😂. As an art teacher, I love being a part of my "specials" group and would agree that we all have our own unique challenges within the subjects we teach.
I think we all have unique challenges and perspectives. It’s good to have that support within our "specials" group!
Your videos are great! About the diffuser paper, I noticed it gets very wet and some of the pigment runs away…are the circles on the large paper when spraying the water or they spray and move them to the drying paper? How to prevent the circles to get so wrinkle? Do you press them down when they are dry? Thanks again:)
I put the circles on construction paper and sprayed them. Mine stayed flat. I used the color diffusing circles. When I did coffee filters they wrinkled a bit but we just glued them down onto paper to flatten them. I hope that helps!

Katie I cannot express to you how much this lifted my spirits. I am a third year art teacher at a school (and district) that had never had an art program before I was hired. I struggle with every single one of these things and hearing that I am not alone in this made me start sobbing. I have never felt so seen and validated. I’m so grateful that you took the time to put this together. I love hearing that this is not the experience of every single teacher or that they are setting boundaries and getting paid, but while the extra stuff sucks the time and life out of us, not being able to feel important or like a real teacher weighs so much heavier on me than any extra task every could. In short, thank you so much
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this. I’m happy the video was helpful for you. It must be very tough establishing a new art program! Thank you so much for watching!
All so true! But, a few years ago I learned to set boundaries. I'm not the last car in the parking lot anymore. The result is my classroom is not "cute" and sometimes it's unorganized. There's no way to have a tidy, cute, beautiful classroom and have amazing art projects all prepped in 8 hrs/day, 5/days a week. I put in many early morning hours prepping lessons at home. I dread going in this week because I know I left it messy and I need to display art throughout the school but have not done that yet. I feel like I'm not keeping up. Boohoo!
It’s a huge balance to juggle it all! It’s important to share we are prioritizing and letting other stuff go. No one is perfect on this job and managing to do it all.
I am not asked to do this and if I am I say NO. I do an art club but the parents pay me for it not the school it's extra money for me.
You are the voice for the reality of what art educators really go through and the value they should have. Thank you.
Wow! Thank you!!
LOVE the paint chart idea. It's these things and methods that set you apart & save me as a career switcher. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! 💕
