Fabulous Fifth Grade Art Lessons
In this video, I’m excited to share three engaging and creative art projects perfect for fifth grade students. These projects will challenge your students to think outside the box while developing their drawing, printmaking, and design skills.
Project 1: Realistic Shoe Drawing with Mini People
Students will create a detailed drawing of a realistic shoe and add tiny people to interact with it in fun and unexpected ways. This project focuses on observation, scale, and creativity! You can download the student planning sheet for this project here: www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Mini-Shape-People-Planning-Sheet-for-Shoe-Drawings-12283026
Project 2: Candy Printmaking
This printmaking project is so sweet! Students will design their own candy stamp using foam sheets, giving them a chance to learn about printmaking techniques and craftsmanship.
Project 3: Playground Drawing Inspired by World Architecture
For this project, students will create imaginative playgrounds influenced by famous architectural styles from around the world. It’s a great way to introduce them to architecture while encouraging creativity and design thinking. Grab the playground planning sheet here: www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/World-Architecture-Inspired-Planning-Sheet-12282999

    Hi Katie, do you have any tips for transitioning between sessions if you have back-to-back classes that are painting? My schedule has little to no transition time on some days, and I'm trying to visualize cleaning up from one project and jumping into the next without going crazy :)

    If i were to teach, id get my students to do cute pranks on other teachers, like associations of colours with certain numbers and shapes, and then students have a back up sheet of normal homework after handing in the fake ones with colours and shapes, their own little code with a decoder that they can keep and use whenever they want. A somewhat fun prank to prank a co-worker (id tell them about it before) and have fun!

    Wow. Those are some really well thought out art projects. Thank you for being so generous as to share them with us. I really like how you explain all the different aspects of the one project and what they are learning by doing it. I'd really like to see some 3rd grade art projects as well. I'm curious to see how the projects develop in complexity and build on previous knowledge through the grades. So I feel like Kindergarten, 3rd grade, 5th grade would give a nice overview.

    Do you have a video on how to become an art teacher? What certifications/license do you need and where/how to get them? I have been searching the internet and can't seem to find one strait answer. I know it depends on the state and what level you want to teach. I have a BA in Graphic Design and photography but love all art mediums.

    • @Managingthemess
      @Managingthemess 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don’t have a video about this currently. It definitely varies by state and even school district. Many places offer a provisional license that would allow you a few years to get your missing credits while you are teaching. I recommend looking at your states department of education website for more information. Also note, teaching art in some states or private schools don’t require an art education degree.

      I typically have students complete an exit ticket or have students start planning the next project. At times when we have some working and others not, I have drawing and building toys. At the end of the quarter we do a ketchup/pickle day to complete all unfinished assignments.

    Thank you so much, Katie Jarvis! I was moved to another school in the district and I was apprehensive. I implemented some of your strategies with the happy and sad board. I bought and painted gold and silver paintbrushes and incorporated the red and yellow zones. It's been going well. I'm so happy and thankful. I'm also surprised how much the 5th graders want the gold paintbrush! I guess it brings out their competitive side- going for the gold. Your lineup routine works great too! I hope to solidify these routines soon so that they will become protocol.

    Hi, I’m just curious why you use the vinyl instead of painting the tops? I’m deciding what to do in my room.

    • @Managingthemess
      @Managingthemess 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I had rooms in the past with painted stools and it faded and looked dull. My current room had new stools but marks on the seats from when the previous teacher was here. I was short on time so I used the vinyl circles. I did find that spray Gorilla glue was ideal. The glue I used in the video puffed as it dried creating a slight texture. The ones I used the spray on look better.

    I love this idea, but I have a question about grades. If you are holding on to an assignment until the end of the quarter- do you put it in the grade book as a zero/missing or do you just leave the grade blank until it’s finally done and you grade it at the end of the quarter.
