    So you came to Gran Canaria the day we had a problem with one ATR72. She suffered a tyre burst on landing and the 03L was close around three hours. You can hear some comunications about this incident with vehicles entering the runway for inspections.

    Very interesting as usual Stefan, thank you. I flew into Gran Canaria (Binter Canarias ATR from Madeira) last year and it was the same yellow dust in the air blowing in from Africa except it stretched all the way down to the ground. The taxi driver was very annoyed because he was going to have to wash it off his car again!

    Fascinating to see the sand/dust above the boundary layer. Having spent my career (now retired) working on Europe's weather satellites, it's good to see from the cockpit what we can clearly see from the satellite's orbit.

    I'm not commenting much on TH-cam.
    But let me say "Thank you" for these videos.
    I am fascinated by aviation primarily for the cockpit procedures that guarantee a successful landing. ("You can alsways go around!")
    And in this video I found a tiny bit of good airmanship from the captain, when he casually asked the pilot monitoring wether he had contacted approach already. (He hadn't.) It was the tone that implcated that the captain had missed it. (He didn't.)
    This is the way leadership looks like.
    Thank you!

    A Binter Canarias Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration EC-MVI performing flight NT-501 from Lanzarote,CI to Las Palmas,CI (Spain) with 69 passengers and 4 crew, landed on Las Palmas' runway 03L when the crew noticed a slight deviation to the left of the runway center line and re-aligned the aircraft with the runway center line, however, noticed the deceleration was more rapid than expected. The aircraft stopped on the runway center line. An inspection of the aircraft on the runway revealed abrasion damage to tyres and wheel rims of the main gear.

The bird gives us a good information about the lateral track and vertical path of the airplane. The blue line above the bird is our preset runway track and the middle of the bird shows the actual track. Please watch the video again and have a close look to the bird. You also can see that our descent path is about 3 degrees. Have a wonderful day!

    Yet another phenomenal video! Looked like a beautiful day, very nice approach. What a positive work environment, such a happy team - laughing and smiling but constantly professional.
    I was wondering, what system was causing the beeping noise during your PA? I’ve watched all your videos and it’s not a sound I recognise. I’d also be interested to know if you work regularly with this Co-pilot, as you seemed to have a great rapport. Thought the PM handled ATC well, did I understand him correctly - they contacted you too soon after touch down while you were still in the “high speed phase”?
    Finally, it’s probably best I stick to occasional simulator and don’t take flying lessons… even with beautiful clear skies I couldn’t identify the runway until you went flaps full! 😳😂 Thanks for another great video, I always look forward to seeing them.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and for your very good and detailed feedback! I also heard that beep during the PA. It may have several sources, like the emergency radio frequency 121.5 which we constantly monitor.
      The crew complement usually changes every working day. Sometimes, 2 pilots fly together a few days a month. We can request to fly with a certain pilot for the whole duty plan. But I usually do not do that.
      There is no rule when ATC can talk to us during the high speed phase on the runway. But here it was a little early because we were still very fast and both had to concentrate on the deceleration of the airplane. The call had no urgency.
      In the videos, the runway is way more difficult to see than in real life. This is due to the wide angle lens of the cockpit camera. Also, the resolution of the human eye is much better than a 4k camera. If you like flying, I suggest that you go to your local flight school or a flying club to take an introduction flight. You will find out very fast, if the real flying is something for you.
      Have a great day!

    Nice landing and visual approach, well done! :) Really enjoyed the video. Question: Why do you have to wait for 3 minutes before doing single engine taxi?

    • @11clarkm
      @11clarkm ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You have to wait 3 mins for the engines to cool-down after flight before you shut them down. If the pilot uses full reverse thrust on landing, then it’s 3 minutes after they go to idle. If the pilot uses just idle reverse, then it’s 3 minutes after touchdown.
      Generally speaking, gentle taxiing does not rev the engines up enough to the point that you have to cool them down. But if, for whatever reason, you rev the engines up too much during taxi, then another 3 minutes should be added before shutdown.
      The cool-down time can differ based on the engines installed on the aircraft.

With the clearance for the visual approach for runway 03R we had to switch them off. If you watch our debriefing at the end of the video, you will see a zoomed picture taken from our landing view. It shows the aircraft on the parallel runway with the emergency vehicles from the airport.

    When we must stop following the Flight Director ? (Very sorry to ask you many many questions)

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you are in the flare for the landing and during the takeoff until the airplane is completely airbone. In all other cases, we switch off the flight director if we do not want to follow the commands.

    Guten Morgen. Für den Co-Piloten war das ja ein relativ stressiger Final, der aber souverän gemeistert wurde. Lag es am visual approach, dass es keinen Ausruf "Land" gab?

    • @JulianEDFM
      @JulianEDFM ปีที่แล้ว +1

      „land“ bezieht sich auf das FMA. Da mit Flight Director off geflogen wurde, gab es auch kein FMA (außer Speed für den ATHR) und somit auch keine Notwendigkeit für einen Callout.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Genau, LAND ist ein sogenannter FMA callout. Wenn im FMA beim visual approach oder einem raw data approach nichts steht, gibt es auch keine Callouts.

    What makes you choose between "bird" and whatever the regular mode is called?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  ปีที่แล้ว

      The bird shows in addition to the normal indications track and flightpathangle. Standard mode is just heading and vertical speed. The bird is a good help especially for raw data and visual approaches because it shows the track and the flightpathangle.

    I thought you were landing 3 left given your setup and what I could see, it clearly reads 3lz but you arrived on the right! Maybe I missed something and I cannot recall any last minute changes, maybe I go back and watch again. It seems you followed the glide for the left and landed right. How strange you landed on the right runway when programmed for left. Just saying nothing else. Maybe go back and see what I missed.

      We did the setup for an ILS approach for runway 03L. This was in accordance to the ATIS at that time. If you listen to the ATC transmissions, you will hear during our descent that later we had to expect an Localizer approach 03L, sidestep 03R. There is a special approach chart for this approach available. The pilot monitoring entered the approach in the MCDU. You can see the change of the approach type at the top of the navigation display. Before starting the final descent of the Localizer approach, we got a reclearance for a visual approach 03R. At this moment, we lined up for runway 03R and switched the flightdirectors off. There is no direct instrument approach publshed for runway 03R. And runway 03L was blocked by an airplane. This is the reason for the procedure.

      I agree! This is a big help. If one runway is blocked, you can just use the other one. Like we did here.
