Bangkok Surprised Me in 2024 | Kanchanaburi to BKK

  • Hey guys! It's me again, back with another adventure! Today's video is all about my journey from Kanchanaburi to Bangkok, Thailand. Yep, you heard it right, I'm leaving the serene vibes of Kanchanaburi and heading straight to the bustling streets of Bangkok!
    I gotta admit, I’m never a big fan of Bangkok and always bypass it. I always felt it wasn’t for me, a huge city with people everywhere. Turns out, getting around Bangkok is a breeze, especially with the BTS Sky Train! It's like a super cool way to zip around the city, and I gotta say, I'm kinda loving it!
    First stop in Bangkok? The famous MBK Center mall! We explored the shops, checked out some cool stuff, and of course, couldn't resist grabbing a bite at the food court.
    Then, it was time to hop back on the BTS Skytrain and head to my hotel in Sukhumvit. And let me tell you, riding the Skytrain was way easier than I thought! It's so convenient and quick, definitely my new favorite way to travel in the city.
    Last but not least, I give you guys a tour of my hotel in Bangkok.

    Bangkok used to be a lot of fun around 2005 when I lived there for around 6 months. After going back in January this year it really has changed a lot and doesn’t have the same atmosphere as before. I understand places change with the times but it’s nice to be nostalgic. It’s become very much like the likes of Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta which weren’t that exciting 20 years ago. I think as countries become better off people become more bogged down and get trapped in the system just like in the west.

      I could not agree with you more, I was there two months ago with a friend who wanted to see it, it is just another polluted traffic jammed big city. I was last there in 2013 and felt pretty positive about it, but this last return visit was horrible. I will stay in Chiang Mai. But as the saying goes, “whatever floats your boat”.

    Catching up on some of your vlogs as been a busy couple of weeks lol but glad I spotted I’d missed this one as always love to see MBK. It was one of the first malls I visited on my first trip in 2001 and it was just so amazing compared to shopping centres back home - everything there seemed so interesting and different, plus stalls of knockoff dvds 📀😎😆 So many malls there now and in Asia in general seem clones of each other and very generic unfortunately.
    Oh .. I love the opening minute or so with the early morning shots and music - great vid mate 👍👍👍

    Emotional times mate. I know how you feel becoming attached to a really nice place. Nickname Kanchanaburi your home away from home with all those fond memories. Bangkok a shock to the system for sure especially after 8 days in such a relaxed location. You are right with Nana Plaza where security will not allow filming inside the plaza area so unlikely to get much if any footage of the place. That touristy street that is really popular especially with the younger set and so well known Khao San Road is probably worth a look and easy to get around with the camera because it is more a party area than red light from what I have seen. Enjoy your time in Bangkok Wayne. Nice video this. Cheers buddy. 🤩

Bangkok was always my stop off after flying in to Thailand. I'd stay there a 4 or 5 days or so and have barely scratched the surface of that place. So many places in the area I want to see and spend some time in. Enjoy your time their mate. Traffic aside, there is a lot to love about Bangkok.

    As soon as I saw you were going to Kanchanaburi I knew you'd love it. One of my favourite spots too. I'm a little surprised you didn't take the train on the Death Railway (wooden structure), no worries, I'm sure you'll be back there soon to do that next time...& Erawan Waterfalls too of course. Loving this series.

    • @WalkAboutWayne
      @WalkAboutWayne  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a great place, easy to fall for this place. I already rode part of the death railway, so maybe next time I'll do the full. I was told Erawan was a waste of time at the minute. it's pretty dry I been told. Thanks 👌👌

    • @cookietulis6252
      @cookietulis6252 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WalkAboutWayne The Death Railway from Kanchanaburi towards the Hellfire Pass is probably the best part - I think it stops in Sai Yok though....and is very slow, so do it more for the scenery and experience as opposed to the transportation.
      Also next visit perhaps look into Sangkhlaburi a few hours west of Kanchanaburi. It's right up on the Myanmar border, and is culturally more Burmese than Thai. Almost has that Chiang Rai-Mai Sai type feel.

    • @WalkAboutWayne
      @WalkAboutWayne  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cookietulis6252 Yeah it's the most scenic part. Like you mentioned, it's more about saying you've done it. I was happy riding a motorcycle to the Hellfire pass and stopping at some places. Cheers.

    Those loud hooting birds at the beginning.. we have a bunch of those here, too. Can't say I have ever seen one though. 5:00 - reminds me of the old Malayan Railways carriages from the 1970s.. those look like the second class carriages. Usually rode third class back and forth to boarding school. 14:45 - I'm surprised you didn't take the train to get to MBK Mall. 😁 At this point I am wondering where the hotel is if it takes an hour to get there.. If it's 17 baht on the BTS it's probably just down the street.. probably 20 minutes.. Yeah, no sense in getting a motorbike.. if you need to get somewhere away from the train there are motorbike taxis. Generally 20 baht a trip. If you want to go see the Spitfire just take the BTS.. station is just outside the museum gate.

      @@WalkAboutWayne Reminds me of the "Up-you bird". George MacDonald Fraser (of the Flashman books) fought in Burma in 1945 in the Northumbrians, and the book he wrote about it (Quartered Safe Out Here) mentions the Up-you bird. That's the expurgated version of the name, the real name was probably X-rated. Imagine it's 2am, it's your turn to be on watch in your foxhole at the wire at Meiktila, and this bird starts up, calling "Up you! Up you! Up you!" After a couple of hours of this some people might snap and yell "Well yeah, and up you too!". I don't think it's the same bird as the Koel, I've never heard them at night. And Fraser said it was actually a large monitor lizard.
