Today I'mI'm heading away from the tourist areas in Bangkok to a little area called Talat Phlu in Thonburi. We're going to be checking out a really local Thai street food area to try loads of different Thai dishes and snacks.
You won't believe how cheap Bangkok street food is in 2024!
I really want you to see how well Thai locals treat you when you're away from the tourist areas of Khaosan and the Sukhumvit Road.

About the area:
Talat Phlu is a neighborhood located in the Thon Buri district of Bangkok, Thailand. Thon Buri is situated on the western banks of the Chao Phraya River, and Talat Phlu is one of its prominent areas. The neighborhood is known for its vibrant local atmosphere, traditional markets, and convenient transportation links.
Talat Phlu is primarily a residential area, with a mix of low-rise housing, townhouses, and apartment buildings. It offers a more relaxed and authentic Thai living experience compared to the bustling city center of Bangkok. The neighborhood has a strong sense of community, with local residents often engaging in small businesses and street food stalls.
One of the highlights of Talat Phlu is its namesake market, Talat Phlu Market. This traditional market is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Here, you can find a wide array of fresh produce, meats, seafood, and other food items. The market also offers clothing, accessories, household items, and local handicrafts.
In addition to the market, Talat Phlu has numerous street food stalls and small restaurants where you can indulge in authentic Thai cuisine at affordable prices. From classic dishes like Pad Thai and Tom Yum to various grilled meats and seafood, the neighborhood offers a diverse range of culinary experiences.
Transportation in Talat Phlu is convenient due to its proximity to major roads and public transportation options. The Talat Phlu BTS Skytrain station provides easy access to other parts of Bangkok, making it convenient for both residents and visitors to explore the city.
Overall, Talat Phlu is a vibrant neighborhood in Bangkok that offers a blend of local charm, traditional markets, and easy access to transportation. It is a great place to experience the authentic side of Bangkok and indulge in delicious Thai cuisine.

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this TH-cam channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!
I never get when people say it's expensive nowadays. I swear half the time we're eating at any street spot we can't actually believe how affordable the food is.
of all the flash restaurants in the world NOTHING beats Thai street food. Superb example of the Real Thailand
If they think this is expensive, never come to Italy!😂 ❤🇹🇭I’m joking you’re the most welcome, but if you eat Thai I believe Thailand is one of the most affordable places around the world. You can’t be starving in the land of smile. There’s always something good and cheap available!💙🇹🇭🔝Big up for your channel Gary, I really appreciate your passion!🔝🦾😉🙏👏
Wow..Mr.Gary, your Thai pronunciation is really good!! Glad that you always enjoy Thai street foods. I can't believe some people said food is expensive in Thailand unless they went to eat in luxury restaurant.
Love the feel of these videos, when you connect so strongly with the locals! Watching this, I'm in a virtual food coma! Forget the night market. This looks like the hidden gem. 30 baht for the first bowl. You are kidding me!! Thanks for the heads up. Might head here in May, instead of the night market. Part II, yes please!
Awww man, it's a bad idea to watch this while I'm craving for thai food in the middle of the night. The dishes all looked so delicious! Would definitely visit this area when I go to Bangkok
Yes a part 2 please!!! The lady at the end looks so sweet that you have to come back and support her shop 😊
His recommendations are much better than Michelin, inexpensive and authentic!
What a brilliant way to start 2024 Gary. Thank you from all the Thai Street Foodies out there loving your content 🤩
Mate i am from Australia and in Bangkok just now . Totally agree about Talat Plu market because i am staying just 12 minute walk to this market . The food is amazing and dirt cheap. I,m surprised you didnt do a section on the crispy fried chicken . It is amazing . It is perfectly cooked , moist on the inside , crispy on the outside and not at all greasy . Topped with fried garlic or onion with sweet chilli sauce it is the perfect lunch snack. But dont forget to add fresh chillies . I had 2 large thighs and it cost me just 80 baht from one of the stalls in the large section of the food market
Great video!! Thank you and happy New year! I've just discovered your channel and it's definitely my favourite coverage of Thai food on TH-cam. I'm going with my girlfriend at the end of February and it's a bit daunting as I want to try all the amazing food so I'm going through your recommendations without trying to watch too much 😂😂
Great vid, Gary! I enjoy these more concentrated vids over the livestreams. I like the interaction with the locals. Very humanizing. The lives just have too much "non-content" for my taste, and it's hard to set aside a full hour or more. I know this type of vid requires more work to edit, but it is appreciated. Wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year! 😊🎉
Mouth watering video mate. Thailand is my second home and will go back in 3 weeks. Definitely give this spot a visit. Keep up the good work bro 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
My wife are coming to Bangkok for a holiday in march so we’ve been going back and watching all of your earlier videos.
Awesome video Gary! Food looks amazing…..Thanks for sharing 😊
Happy New Year, Gary!!!!!! Your Thai is much improved. Well done.🙏
Top video as usual Gal.
Great video, as always!! Keep it up in 2024. Happy New Year 🎊🎆🎈 🎉
