Did you know, dryleaf dane is so formidable that even no hit runners, do everything they can to make sure dryleaf Dane is the only opponent in the Leda fight... in otherwords, if he enters the ring and it turns into a 2v1, even no hit runners get scared
unarmed combat was usually learned for a handful of reasons. One was simply that you cannot be without a weapon if your body is one. This is especially important if you are very poor. Poor people could not afford metal for very much and what they had was usually limited to what they needed for their job, often farming. Finally, unarmed forms usually allow a person to train bit harder, especially against their sparring partner, because the lethality is less implicit. So mastery of unarmed techniques is often a sign of a person who has trained a whole lot. In martial arts circles it's seen as a little bit of a contrivance but is a practical way to be able to train more with less injury. To me it feels like Dane is based on the idea that he is incredibly strong-willed, and has trained to a transcendental level. He also seems to be ready for a time when all is lost, so he does not rely on weapons that could break or be lost. Just some thoughts on your questions.
Speculation for the Dryleaf ways being harsh on the body and mind could be explained through their ascetic ways. In some faiths, asceticism is a way to achieve spiritual enlightenment by denying the self of all worldly-pleasures, this means denial of possessions, attachments to family/friends, and living in excess of bare minimum. This practice is meant to hone the soul and body to remained focus on a singular cause beyond the world we inhabit. Dryleaf Dane denying even to speak and obscuring his eyes to maintain focus on his path speaks of that he's perhaps the most disciplined dryleaf to make it this far, his rigorous practices is meant to make him formidable and aloof to the tarnished as he isn't meant to feel beyond his loyalty to his cause. Miquella achieves godhood through stripping himself of all worldly-attachments, even his very flesh, which can parallel the path the Dryleaves would practice on a smaller-scale!
Avoiding looking at the eyes of your opponent is a common technique in Japanese martial arts. They would say your opponents eyes can steal your will. Personally, I just think that it's more like in basketball that a person can make feints with their eyes. You would not notice those feints if you just watch your opponents center of gravity and their center of gravity tells you where your opponent is actually going.
Never watch the eyes. The eyes lie. Watch their feet. A warrior doesn't win with their hands. They win with their feet, by getting into a position where they can attack or defend safely. Center of gravity is also very good advice, because the entire body will follow the center.
I interpret dryleaf Dane as a sort of buddism-analogy, where he's recognized the inherent suffering of the current world, and believes in miquella's gentler world. This is in line with their issue of self-discipline and independence - these things are incorporated into Buddhism as a way of rejecting the broken world, and protecting oneself from its influence. Unfortunately that rejection also brings a rejection of the opportunity for connection and co-operation. His beliefs, like his real life equivalent, are a somewhat flawed rejection of the world, in hopes that there might be a better one.
first playthrough I was so confused that there was no dialogue. I actually thought there was a bug or something haha. Took a while for me to put 2 and 2 together that he just doesn't speak... Quite a cool character and I think you did him justice! (as always)
Great video, as usual! The golden ring incantations actually may relate more to the golden order than to Miquella. Discus of Light, Radagon's Ring of Light, and Miquella's Triple Ring of Light are all fundamentalist incantations, and Multilayered Ring of Light is wielded by a Misbegotten, closely associated with Radagon rather than Miquella. So, the sect may have been a branch of fundamentalism, not unlike the Hunters of TWLD or Goldmask and his schoolars. A state-enforced faith may have grown too big to stay uniform across the TLB. Also, Dane hiding his eyes may have prevented him from falling for the Charm. So, he may be the only true loyalist among Miquella's guidance who is not a psycho (looking at you, Leda).
Dane, despite a man of a very few words feels slightly impactful if you consider what he represents in the real world and to see martial arts in Elden Ring is unexpected His notes and last words makes me believe that Dane was trusted slightly more than the rest of "Miquella's band" because he "speaks no evil", he cooperates with Leda but doesn't say anything to her, he even knows the requirements to break the Shadow Seal and in this way it makes it appear that he is ahead of everyone else And it's unclear if he was even charmed to begin with because he doesn't talk until his death or seems to change his allegiance
The Gloam Eyed Queen was the queen of Belurat. She married and has Mesmer and Melina with Radagon and was betrayed. Marika to those golden stands from her corpse. This was the seduction and the betrayal. Makes sense why Marika looks masculine in the trailer and why the sword of the GEQ is a spiral
Can you do a video on Rakshasa please I wanna know more lore on her even if it’s just speculation Btw your videos are awesome and I look forward to them each week
We actually talk about the scion in our video on Roderika. The grafted scions are likely children of godrick he's grafted numerous tarnished parts onto in order to make them stronger.
… The fact that they added “Kung fu” attacks to a Souls game. Which is more evident then ever = Implies the possibly their next spellbound game could be “Magic Kung fu”. If the leaks are true their next spin off game is magic theme, casting with a staff is and has always been boring for us casual players. So, spice it up and make king fu magic… Just a theory.
I can definitely look into the demi-humans if the land of shadow, because I believe most of the matriarchal themes still apply, but they certainly seem unique.

Not when you've got Shieldbros on your side.
When I did my blind RL1 on one of the earlier patches, I managed to get 8 vs 1 (Leda).
