yeah we know. haha. filmed this a few months ago but hadn't had time to edit it together. Not so relevant now but we still get asked about it so we just went ahead and put it out there.
Also (now that I've actually watched the video all the way through lol). I was watching that timer when it hit 20 seconds I was like "no way," then you started pulling out the pre-assembled handles and I said "ohhhhhhh!". Nice work, definitely make more of these. I know you guys aren't busy with like, a baby/workshop/editing or anything.
The Ronin-m has been out for a good amount of time now and I image an updated version from DJI will probably be coming this year. Thinking a pistol grip option. ;)
There's no way they aren't considering a pistol grip. Heck take the Osmo and make it capable of carrying a mirrorless and i would heavily consider buying it. :D
SO helpful! Have been looking for the right cable setup for a few weeks. Used a regular HDMI, and could see my Ronin fighting the wire (only used that setup once) - so I’m very glad to see this! Thank you!
Got a question. I just bought one yesterday and I can’t seem to get it to roll when I tilt it. I guess it’s called Dutch tilt. It just stays horizontal. Any idea why?
White In Revery thanks for the reply. I actually figured it out last night. I played around with the app and found out the tilt roll only works when brief case mode is off.
Thank you very much for this video !!! Its helpful and good explained!!!! I wish i could watched it before i bough my monitor accessoires ... Can you zoom in and out with your lens on the gimbal? without recalibrating?? And no is your cable from monitor to camera connected that it doesnt move to other sides?
Yes you can zoom in and out and the gimbal will still maintain balance. Regarding the cable, I use zip ties or velcro straps to secure the cable in place.
Super video guys, I'd love to see a "how to" with your process + setup for using the hd501 for monitoring when on monopod. Like do you use it primarily for focus, or more so so you can see what your LUTs will look like as you record a scene? I suppose I'm wondering what the main benefits are for yous, as i'm thinking of getting one. Is it viewable outside in bright conditions ? LOVE your work btw, so much to admire.
can you show up close in detail the HDMI cabling, from camera to monitor? THANKS!!!! the part I can't see (figure out) is 2:38-3:20. you mention 'handing down'/dangling; a bit confused since the angle doesn't show detail. btw, I like your approach, hence my request!!!
Hello :) please for help... Because I don't know how should I do this: Canon 5DM4 I have a good Mic from Audio Technica Stereo with two XLR. I will buy a Zoom H6. I think that the Mic should be on the camera and I will buy now a rode small radio lav mic. Can I all the things mounting on the ronin M ? Maybe have you an another idea how can I do this everything? I am one man... Please for your idea
Do you use a spacer or something for the plate? I put a lens on and cant put the camera back that far... I also noticed you dont use a lens stabilizer that goes to the front of the plate. Any reason why? I am not able to use one either cuz it always gets in the way and impossible for me to keep the camera straight and not at an angle.
Thanks for the video!! Can you please let us know what part did you use for mounting the monitor to the top bar? I didn't find it in the description. Thanks!
very important question!!! is it bad for the ronin if I quickly set it up & don't balance the camera properly. basically it works fine, but is it bad for the ronin? I got the problem switching between handheld & gimbal shots and I don't know how I can accelerate the switch between two rigs :s
Can you use the Ronin M without the dual handles? It wouldn't be ideal, especially if you wanted to use a monitor, but I would assume you'd be able to use all the same functions. Has anyone tried this or can test it out?
How did you attach the monitor to the handle on the Ronin. It seems like you have a different version than the one DJI makes. Yours looks easier to setup than DJIs
Hey Guys ! thanks for this video ! i have been looking at a few gimbals to buy ! i wanted to ask does the Ronin M have that Up and down movement feel kinda of a walk motion in your shots when you walk around around freely with the gimbal. Cos i noticed that in other gimbals and far less in the Ronin. 2. The other question i have is how do you follow up with focus with movement with the Ronin since i noticed there s no follow focus .. or do u maintain a constant distance to maintain focus ? or do u suggest getting a decent cam that tracks subjects on auto focus like the GH5 or the 1dx mark ii ? 3. Is this Gimbal more reliable than the new Zhiyun Crane 2 ? Really thinking on what to invest in ! thanks!
I bet you tried it a couple of times to get within 1 minute! ;) But still very quick and nice tips. Like your solution on the cables and the monitor mount.
tried it once without timing it and then just went for it. This was the first take and didn't realize until re-watching it that it was exactly at 1min. haha. We actually get more questions about our cabling then anything. glad it may have helped a little.
White In Revery can you post links to the entire monitor setup? I love how fast you are able to clamp this mount onto the Ronin, but I can't find it online. Thanks!
yes, the built in IS amazing in the GH5, but you cant really get those long graceful tracking shots like you can with the ronin. Often, i'll get my establishing shots with the ronin, then pop off and get my close-detail shots hand held.
sorry it might have come across as misleading. there are so many videos out there on how to balance the ronin but none on how to set it up quickly for weddings specifically. thanks for the comment.
YES!! FINALLY! Been waiting on this video from you guys for like 7 months now. :D
yeah we know. haha. filmed this a few months ago but hadn't had time to edit it together. Not so relevant now but we still get asked about it so we just went ahead and put it out there.

why isn't it as relevant now?
The Ronin-m has been out for a good amount of time now and I image an updated version from DJI will probably be coming this year. Thinking a pistol grip option. ;)

i think that function only works with the controller.
White In Revery thanks for the reply. I actually figured it out last night. I played around with the app and found out the tilt roll only works when brief case mode is off.
Yo you're killin it!! Can't believe I met you over a year ago now
thanks for following along man!!!
You once said that you only use manual focus - how do you focus on this setup?
Yeah, that's also my first question. And second: Is there a specific reason you chose the 501 monitor over others?
Thank you very much for this video !!! Its helpful and good explained!!!! I wish i could watched it before i bough my monitor accessoires ...

looking into making a short bts video of this exact question. Stay tuned.
What is the little clip that clips on the the handle bars that attaches to your screen?

Which Hot Shoe mount did you purchase to mount the SHD 501?
I would like to know this too
Me too

Hi..are you using the M now with your Gh5? And does the flip.out screen cause problems?
I can’t find a quick release plate for my Ronin M. Any suggestions???
Do you use a spacer or something for the plate? I put a lens on and cant put the camera back that far... I also noticed you dont use a lens stabilizer that goes to the front of the plate. Any reason why? I am not able to use one either cuz it always gets in the way and impossible for me to keep the camera straight and not at an angle.
Interesting. I am using a 5d3 with 24-105 and you're saying if I balance at 50mm it will hold steady throughout the entire focal length?
Don't you ever have any issues with the Ronins motors since you haven't calibrated it, I always seem to have to do that during the process.
Thanks for the video!! Can you please let us know what part did you use for mounting the monitor to the top bar? I didn't find it in the description. Thanks!

Is ronin m have 360 roll axsis ?
What kind of shoe mount did you use I noticed that is adjustable witout release the clamp
Do you have to tweak the balance when you go indoors and take off the ND filter, or do you just let the motors do the work?
That's a good question, but I would NEVER let the motors do the work! A good Balance is everything!
Sweet video. What case did you buy on Amazon? What size is it? Thanks.
niiiiiiiice video. Learned so fast. Siiiiiick, tutorial brah. Best one out there, highly recommend.
How did you attach the monitor to the handle on the Ronin. It seems like you have a different version than the one DJI makes. Yours looks easier to setup than DJIs
XXIVVI it's a rail clamp. You can get these on amazon
Luka Feinweber could you post a link? I can't find one that clamps on so quickly and easily?
can you give more detail on the comlite hack?
lookup edmunds optics. I purchased some flocking adhesive paper and then cut it out to fit the interior of the adapter.
what monitor mount is that?
Hey Guys ! thanks for this video ! i have been looking at a few gimbals to buy ! i wanted to ask does the Ronin M have that Up and down movement feel kinda of a walk motion in your shots when you walk around around freely with the gimbal. It's pointless to even take it a part. Its much better leaving it as a whole ronin quick and easy just throw it in your car and go.
How do you keep it from spinning like crazy/destabilizing itself?
Hey man can you tell us what mount u used to mount the shoe mount onto the ronin m?
you didnt mention what Quick Release plate you guys use.
Just updated the description. Sorry about that. Manfrotto Quick Release Plate!
hey man , can yu please link the lens too !
Hi there, can i ask you how you connected your shogun with your camera to get a sharper optic?
we only use SmallHD Monitors and not the atomos shogun.
White In Revery ok, can i ask you how you connected your Monitor with your camera to get a sharper optic?
I bet you tried it a couple of times to get within 1 minute! ;) But still very quick and nice tips. Like your solution on the cables and the monitor mount.

What monitor mount are you using for the smallHD 501?
Im using the smallHD pan-tilt mount for $60. I then attach it to a hotshoe mount on the ronin bar.
Awesome, Thank you!
White In Revery can you post links to the entire monitor setup? I love how fast you are able to clamp this mount onto the Ronin, but I can't find it online. Thanks!
You didn't even balance it. You had it prepped
it has a quick release mount so yes its pre balanced for the setup he uses.
how do you get your sound and lighting
rode smart lav and natural lighting ;)
Do you guys still find the ronin M useful with the GH5?
yes, the built in IS amazing in the GH5, but you cant really get those long graceful tracking shots like you can with the ronin. Often, i'll get my establishing shots with the ronin, then pop off and get my close-detail shots hand held.
what quick release are you using?
updated the description. Manfrotto :)
It is a great
"After pre-balancing the camera, a 1-minute set-up!" the title should have read.
wow it's almost like a speedrun just with a gimbal and not with games
haha ;)
this video is useless was waiting how you balance Ronin-M
sorry it might have come across as misleading. there are so many videos out there on how to balance the ronin but none on how to set it up quickly for weddings specifically. thanks for the comment.
same, this is a disappointment.
balancing is easy. DJI tells you how. th-cam.com/video/bm3Z8VBiXaY/w-d-xo.html
