    Thank you so much for creating a 2 hour analysis of this overlooked gem. Wixoss stands out from other card game anime by being a psychological character thriller, giving it more of a live action tv drama.
    Kudos for mentioning the stunning color direction and background art. I also really loved the vhs glitch effect you added to the video. Love that aesthetic. And another thanks for using the English dub clips.

      Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words! Most people really do not like the VHS glitch filter, so my newer videos (this is a mega compilation of my older Wixoss videos) tend to have less of that as a courtesy to people's eyes, but I try to keep that style of aesthetic in mind at least to some degree when making analysis videos, and I'm really glad you liked it! Also, you're welcome for using dub clips, I speak both English and Japanese, but I don't mind dubs in the slightest, most times I actually prefer the dub, but the joy of knowing both is being able to pick and choose based on the acting which voices I feel fit the show better.

      I still think about making that video sometimes, maybe I'll revisit the idea when I eventually cover Lostorage.

    amazing video, thank you for such a detailed break down on a greatly under-looked anime. The Creators behind it being such big names but the show not garnering much attention is kind of nuts!

      Yeah, it's crazy how little attention this series gets, though these days I feel justified in blaming Diva A Live for most of that.

    I was looking for a Wixoss analysis video because a lot of themes and story points flew over ahead whilst I was watching (like Ruko's abandonment). Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed the content, and it clearly had a lot of effort put in. My only critique is I wish there was more diversity of octopus stock footage 🦑

    So the way I've interpreted the Selector battles is that beyond the talking cards and battlefields, there's actually not much more magic going on than that. All the wishes, even Yuzuki's to some extent, are wishes that CAN be granted through hard work. Chiyori's is obviously different but is also a wish that would fade with time so it's not that important, but essentially the wishes have to be something the LRIG believes they can achieve as the person. I don't know if Kazuki's mind did get changed by the wish, but instead got changed because he started hanging out with the others and they showed their disgusting sides to him with their own obsessions and his mind wandered to Yuzuki, who is the only one who seemingly purely loved him even as just a Sister. I also believe that the conditions for becoming an Eternal Girl are simply the LRIGs believing that the Selector believes strongly enough in their wish to have it made into reality, not because they actually gain power through the battles like is seemingly implied.
    I do want to see you cover Diva A Live just so we can see your full unfiltered thoughts on the whole series. From what you've said I think we both agree that Diva is substantially less interesting than the original run of Selector Infected and Selector Spread, though I would argue it's still better than Lostorage Incited, though Lostorage's second season (Season 4) is substantially better in my humble opinion. I rate them as 1. Selector Infected 2. Selector Spread 3. Lostorage Conflated 4. Diva A Live 5. Lostorage Incited.

    Personally I think the show implied that the wish Yusuki did not effect her brother in anyway as it was explained that most Lrigs don't have any magic powers when human to make the wish come true. They just have to try their best.
    That's why the Lrig of the girl who wanted to be a writer did not suddenly gain the power to write very well.
    Kinda weired as then the show seem to imply that the incest relationship is actually something good. (Her brother even holds on to Yusuki's card the whole time he gets it and only seems to care about her in the card and not Hanayo like he probably should be do to the wish)

    I've been meaning to write this comment for a while, but I wanted to express my gratitude to you for making this. WIXOSS is a series that's rather near and dear to me, and while I've come across a few videos that cover it in some capacity, none have done so to this extent. Your discussion surrounding the art direction has been mentioned a few times already, but I'll be the next to praise it, not just for being so in-depth about it, but deeming it worth dissection in the first place. Likewise, the more character-centric approach to structure was an interesting change of pace that made it easier to grasp the thesis of this video and really, the series itself. More than that, the analysis outside of that gave me somewhat of a new perspective on Selector. I personally viewed its overall themes - in a broad sense, this comment is legnthy enough - as being about choice, and while I maintain that perception, focusing more on the maliciousness of the game and the underlying nature of the people caught up in it - including Rūko - is equally valuable, and in the latter case, something I hadn't considered. That is, I never really investigated why these Selectors specifically were chosen from a narrative perspective, so this analysis has given me a newfound appreciation for that detail. Your take on the inconsistent application of the rules (more or less confirmed outright by the Lostorage seasons, despite some of the conflicts they create with Selector's canon imo) was incredibly worded as well, if I may add. I find myself going back to that moment on occasion.
    Long story short on that front, this is a remarlably well-put together video for a series that most certainly deserves it, and I hope more people come across it some day.
    In addition, I wanted to thank you for making this because it helped inspire and encourage me to work on an analysis of another series I was doing for an independent study project at the time (though I hope the sentiment still stands). Seeing the amount of effort that went into this for such a hidden gem really helped to keep me driven through that process, so again, thank you.

      Thank you for sharing, and wow! That's an honor, to be part of the reason someone else is able to express themselves. I really enjoyed your video on Black Rock Shooter. It's clear a ton of work went into it! I hope you'll look forward to more video essays in the future, and I hope I can look forward to more of yours too.

    Absolutely love the content, but tv glitching effect you put that obscures nearly half the screen happens so often and is so apparent is jarring. Just my opinion because it was just straining my eyes I had to just listen to it which was a great experience too!

    • @TheMissingLettr
      @TheMissingLettr  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your feedback. A lot of the glitch effect originally came from attempting to get rid of copyright claims on the content, but thankfully I've gotten far better at editing over time, so my newer content should be a little easier on the eyes. I'm sorry for how distracting it is in this video, and I really appreciate you letting me know what I can do to improve my videos and make them more enjoyable experiences going forward.

    Yo wtf 40 views thats some criminally underrated content 💀
    I remember watching WIXOSS but given it was a psychological anime it really turned me off.
    By episode 2 i already knew what would happen in the next episodes and how fucked up it would be.
    It had all the characteristics and red flags of a show that would ruin your view on the world and well ummm... just f u up.
    My already NE NE psyche knew it would make dent in it so i just dropped it but i can only imagine how f up characters in this show got.
    Thanks for the retrospective tho : )
    The show had the Sailor Moon vibes and i think it would've been better if it was based more on it, at least in my view

    • @TheMissingLettr
      @TheMissingLettr  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for saying so. I see where you're coming from, but I have to admit I kind of like where the show ended up going, I am a horror fan after all.
      I think it takes a lot of self understanding to know when a show isn't going to be for you right from the get go, and a lot of maturity to be able to look at where you're at mentally and emotionally and understand that a series is probably a little too much for you to handle, so even though I do appreciate the direction the show went in and wouldn't have it any other way, I can also understand why it might not be for everyone.
