It's just not that hard when you have...I'm guessing a lifetime of experience? Great stuff, I really look up to incredible troubleshooters like yourself. Thank you.
Great video Bernie! I've been introduced to the ATS Escope Elite on Brandon's pressure analysis course. This video really shows how the higher the skill level of the tech, the lower the cost of repair to the customer. Dealer: New ECM + programming. Most indy: Used ECM + programming. Top Techs: 10 mins resoldering, no programming required.
OMG, I was so sure that the culprit has to be the injector because it is exposed to heat, vibration, wear, the coil got hot and then fail randomly (like happened once in a 4runner) and so on..... this was a Master Class. Thanks so much
Had one doing the same exact thing, same year Tribeca. Wiggle the board and number 1 injector would come and go. Couldn't see a bad solder joint, baked the ECU board 8 min at 385 deg and it fixed it lol
thank you for sharing your knowledge on the 06 tribeca intermittent misfire #1cyl. I own one of those and mine did the same thing while on vacation. After changing plug and coil and still having a misfire, I knew injector could also be a cause. I never would have gotten this figured out away from home and tools without you posting a little known way to look at the electricity.
Absolutely amazing after switching a few fuel injectors around and changing some coils. I finally found your video I had a number one misfire also went right to the computer wiggled connectors didn’t work then removed board and saw the pin coming through the board didn’t weld it didn’t see crack but I ever so gently bent the pin with needle nose ,reinstalled, then started car misfire was gone. Didn’t have the fancy equipment That you have but because of your video it is running great Thanks again!!!!
Bernie I think I have seen every one of your brilliant videos, I use a pico scope but since being blown away by your knowledge of your Escope and using it to its full potential I have ordered the Escope Elite4 and I am waiting for delivery of it and I must say I really can’t wait. Out of all the online training I still do by far I learn the most from you. As you said in this video “Learn the language that the electronics use”. Over my 36 years in the trade I enjoy learning more these days and it keeps all of us Technicians on our toes and makes the job more enjoyable. I only wish you came and taught here in the uk. Thank you again for your great teaching videos and I look forwards to using your Scope…
Nice job Bernie please keep up the videos we love these and every video makes me one step closer to ordering the eScope I love the dual time base for drop outs. Thanks for sharing... Jay Ps Jeff needs a raise he’s an incredible asset.
I really appreciate Bernie Thompson's quick, concise training videos! He is able to think so logically, and he shows more critical information than most others do in 3 times the amount of time - please keep up the great job! I had this identical problem on a 2006 Subaru Tribeca in 2019, and it took me a lot longer to diagnose the problem. One bad effect of watching his videos is that even though our shop has many almost new scan tools, I'm wondering if we need an E-Scan Elite like he uses. It has so much information on the screen - I'm not able to get this much information on any one page of any of our scan tools - including factory scan tools
I’m clueless about car engines but this was so interesting…it was like watching a car engine doctor checking the car’s “cardiogram” pulses…lol… I do have a 2006 Subaru Tribeca…I might have a case of misfire but I’m not sure. My car sometimes hesitates as it’s shifting in low gear. It doesn’t happen all the time…but I never had this happen before. My mechanic said that “all cars do this”…I’m a bit skeptical of absolutes, such as “all”, “none”, “always”, “never”, etc. This was very informative but definitely out of my league…actually, I don’t have a “car engine league”…lol… I absolutely love your props! It definitely reminds me of hospital props! LOL 😂 You’re a car engine cardiologist and neurologist! That’s for sure!! LOL 😂 Very cool stuff! At least, now I know what a car misfire is!! Thanks so much for sharing!🙏
Hi you are awsome. I love research and I am now sure I can solve the issues with my car and only thanks to you're research. why hasn't NASA found you, and the crew of Apollo 13 can thank God that there are Bernie's out there All the best and thanks.
Meanwhile, on another channel a guy takes a long screwdriver and holds the tip against the fuel injector with the handle to his ear, doesn't hear a click, and replaces it in 10 minutes. I'm sure he still charges 8 hours of labor, though, like ya do.
Im curious to know how much this diagnostic/repair would cost to an average customer and to a shop customer? Pretty please My personal opinion is I would charge them both the same price of $420 to $500 for a diagnostic/repair like this. $200 diag and $200 to $300 for the repair. Charge for your knowledge and tools
I have the same suv with these exact issues. Misfire cylinder 1, short term fuel trim at 30%, misfire goes away and fuel trim lessens when I wiggle the top connection on the ecu.
I live in a small town and 90% of the mechanics don't use scops. The customer here most try to work on there own vehicles they try to apply the 80's cars and older to the new vehicles and it can turn just realy a mess after that but they allfeel scops are a waist of time and money so trying to get people to pay for the Diagnostics is a bad fight then you have the bad information that is getting put out thats a fight all it own, so I'm 8n the middle of a war zone doing what I do. It makes it realy beyond the mess already having to be battled.
I have the same problem with my 2006 Forester, misfiring cyl 1. Now, instead of trying to buy a used ecm after diagnostics from a licensed shop, I should open up my ecm and check the pcba since i have access to a soldering iron at work
I have a 2006 subaru tribeca b9 having the same problem i changed injector bank 1 and coil bank 1 and the crankshaft sensor still having the same problem i am about to change the two camshaft sensors plz help
Some can change parts
Some will change a lots of parts
An Auto Tech with a oscilloscope will only change the bad parts....
Thank you Bernny Thompson
I wanna know which shop or business is treating their techs to this mans wisdom. Grand master
That was SO AWESOME Bernie! Love it! No parts required ;)
Ivan I bet you had the urge to go solder something after seeing this video. At least taking a big whiff of the soldering sponge? 😂
@@ozzstars_cars haha love the smell of hot solder 😁
Bernie, can't stop watching your videos. Keep them coming! So much knowledge!
It's just not that hard when you have...I'm guessing a lifetime of experience? Great stuff, I really look up to incredible troubleshooters like yourself. Thank you.
That and a $2400 Scanning software/tablet/OBD reader.
THAT MY FRIEND WAS EXCELLENT , what more could be said thank you for your time sir .

Man, the more I watch you, Bernie, the more I enjoy your videos and presentation!! Thanks!!
Bernie that was one of the most inspiring speeches I have ever heard at the end of the video. I can't wait to learn more!

Problems just can’t seem to hide from Bernie! Good job as always on this tough diag!

I’m thrilled Bernie is doing these videos now.

This guy is a real teacher 👏
Fantastic information and presentation. Test, then the result decides the next test. Thanks for producing this stuff.
The best diagnostic videos. Theory, possible cause, fault finding, correction, explanation.

Just great to watch. So much to absorb with all scope settings & features. Nice ending.
Exceptional knowledge, I keep watching your videos
Watching that process was badass! Thanks, Bernie
Sir, you are absolutely brilliant.
Doing everything in this one Bernie! Got my Escan currently on the way to Australia. Can't wait to use it 💪
That was awesome. I just found my new favorite TH-cam channel.
Masterclass Bernie thanks for sharing

An amazing piece of information. Great videos Bernie, you are my inspiration
Excellent diagnostic technique. 👍
Holy Shit! This guy is like no other mechanic. Most are just not up to his caliber.
Superb masterclass!!
As always, Bernie does it again ! 👍

Good video. I would suggest adding rosin flux when resoldering a joint. Of you may have done that and did not show it on camera.
Thank you Bernie! Great video!
Outstanding

Awesome video!
That was a good one 👍.
