Man, you actually suffered through this lol.
I do like how this vid was less about how bad the game is and moreso a lesson about how important the fundamentals of an action game are
Have fun with DMC 3 now kek

Yeeeea man of course we did!
We gotta be the channel the does it ALL
Hey glad you noticed that's bc that's definitely the major goal or msg I wanna have w these games. To really set out what I like about the genre n when is it at its best
3 is gonna be Fun! Think this is my 5th time playing it from what I remember but that's All from casual playing tho. Now that we're covering it here imma do probably do another 5 n theeen some. So it's something imma really take my time n enjoy bc I got alot to say about 3. ALL good things don't worry don't worry. Not coming out w wild takes or anything like that but just more stuff about our genre as a whole. So hopefully that'll be something different when talking about 3

Another thing to mention about defense is that in this game, dodging/rolling after any melee attack takes forever. Look at how quickly you can dodge after melee attacks in dmc 1 or 3+. Here you have to wait for Dante to finish the entire animation all the way to the idle stance before you can do anything. It's like they forgot to make it so you can cancel recovery frames into dodge. This makes melee weapons even less viable compared to weapons with no recovery at all (ebony and ivory).

A review that does this game justice for once, its a fine game if you are looking to have a fun time. Btw the fact that enemies dont defend themselfs is exacly what i felt, but couldn't realy tell. They do attack, but it usualy coes out of nowhere, especialy on dmd, especialy fkn "goat" enemies i wish they'd came back, they can be a pretty tough "heavy" enemy like Blades/Assaults from dmc1/4 or Ultra-scarecrows, not quite fodder, but not enough to be "half-boss". The outfit is a matter of taste, i think dmc3's dante look is bad, yet many people love it.

    • @o_uwu_o
      @o_uwu_o  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yea goats could've been awesome. An enemy that can bully you up close n from afar too. But yeea enemies gotta put up some challenge yknow so it can make our choices that much more rewarding. The outfit of 3 definitely became the winner for most ppl. I think it's a - less is more - kinda thing. But I already got won over by his dmc1 outfit so I'm set w my favorite already

One of the few DMC2 videos that don't just regurgitate the most popular opinions 🤯.
Also, someone who finally says the DMC2 outfit isn't that great.
I think the outfit would suit Vergil more, add some meat to his skinny DMC2 bones, take away the sword strap thing on his chest, fold the collar down, turn the red blue, zip the jacket up, add Vergil's ascot, make the coattails match the grey, simplify the belt.
Bring the gloves up to his elbows, make them white with DMC3-esque gold-brown accent, and make then fingerless because why not, take away the belts on his thighs.
Same with his boots, raise them to around shin to knee level, and make them white with gold-brown accents.
Sorry for the paragraphs, I've thought about redesign DMC2 Dante's outfit and giving it to Vergil for a while now.
It's too classy for him, DMC1 Dante's outfit is still my favourite Dante outfit because it looks professional, but not too professional.
It actually feels like the nice suit young Dante would wear when out demon hunting.
Not Vergil doing his worst Dante cosplay.

Hey I appreciate the back up out here against this outfit haha
But yo I like how you Really thought about it too. I like that
      N I'm w you there. I think his dmc1 outfit is perfect - 10/10
Bold, rememberable, not too overly designed, n looks right for his sorta work of fighting demons

i'm curious, what are your personal favorite combat systems? ones you'd say are the gold standard

Heeey that’s awesome to hear! Glad you’re liking it
Hmmm…okokok it just hit me. I really appreciate how ea game does their own defensive play. Kh1 I think is super underrated across the board, onimusha issens are great, NG using its movement is like nothing else, i reeeally like dmc jump+the styles sys of course, n even stranger of paradise soul parries. These defensive options really make their game stand out from one another bc they ask you to use something very creative n different than what you’d expect. Oh n if there’s some risk/reward to it - makes it That much more enjoyable to master.
Yeea I’ve heard about it before but haven’t seen much on yet. But it’s for sure on the list to check out! Someday someday

I think there's one game even more emblematic is what not to do: Code of Princess. I have it a try this year and it's genuinely inept in every single aspect of combat design despite solid aesthetics, great music, and a ton of content.

dmc2... a game that must be exist no matter if it is good, bad or mediocre xd
it introduces lots of ideas that future itsuno dmc series will improve or streamline, that also includes dmc2's stupidly easy difficulty... (yes i am mentioning dmc4 and 5, dmc2's dmd is actually harder than dmc4 and 5, dont trust me? try it see it for ur self!) xd
Edit: forgot to mention, maintaining style in dmc2 is just very hard lol
a good look of dmc2, i think it should be very obvious by now, itsuno's later dmc games always have the "refined" version of dmc2 ideas, from weapon swap system, story telling, character build up, more dynamic action combo system, devil trigger exclusive combo system, big city map explore, and then the last but also the most saddest part of it.. the difficulty that really took to the 4th and 5th game.....
i really adore what dmc2 did, such as amazing ost that is almost on par with the first game, im a fan of dmc2's art style btw, and dmc2 dante's both normal and sin devil trigger are really awesome for me, I like the idea devs want to do a city level exploration to fight giant monsters with more combat options such as air combos and flying, I also love the story idea about dante is looking for his seemingly "dead" but still in MIA father Sparda, since he is so moody and "cool" and unfun in 2nd game, even without the third game, i think Dante might go moody when he just found and killed his one and only twin brother vergil back in dmc1, a fun action hero isnt always wacky wahoo pizza dude, if anything he is a sad man with a ptsd past that still haunting him, but i doubt if Hideki Kamiya and his team will ever explore this side of him if they handle the sequel tho, this is something Itsuno actually did~
these ideas are technically not just being revisited by itsuno and his team tho, I've been playing bayonetta 1, 2(wii u version) and 3 (@mul@tion) recently, and i think the "true dmc2 sequel from hideki kamiya and team little devils / angels" can be found in bayo's sequels, especially bayo 2 it shares lots of similar ideas with dmc2 but extremely refined and fun to play, altho difficulty is easier than bayo 1, it is by far no means brain dead easy, if anything i say bayo 2 is harder than dmc4 and 5's dmd, and so to bayo 3. But this is just my personal thoughts about these games, devs never once admited this n that so at best it could be just coincidence, but i doubt lol
and hey, if u ever decided to try dmc2's dmd, believe me dmc2's dmd is not that easy xd
by all means dmc2 dmd DID NOT FIX GAME'S DIFFICULTY IN GENERAL, but it actually forces me to learn dmc2's mechanics, and ofc if i want to just pew pew pew to no tomorrow, spam rocket launcher is the slowest and safest way to do, but enemies in dmc2 will be very active and will flank you btw so hey, try it out if you are really bored! I certainly did and still try to learn game mechanics when i am in the mood... xd
(th-cam.com/video/ZHM8BXLmpHI/w-d-xo.html) this is a link that i was learning the game mechanic with this boss in DMD, it is fun and super unfair.. so yea xd
finally... i am so glad u point it out again n again, a great action game requires not just combat system ALONE! general enemies ai design, difficulty design and levels design plays a huge role to make a game more than just good, annd itsuno's takes on dmc are always hits n misses.... his dmc3 switch version revision is actually the best itsuno dmc game due to the cons of og dmc3se are heavily minimalized by the complete style switch system and weapon wheel system, without that dmc3se can be like a jank sometimes... and the bosses arent as fun as dmc1 so ehh..
dmc2 is not a good game, but it can be remake and be fixed what it failed, when DMC5 is a great success, which it is a game that also involves city map exploration, character chapter missions, story focus and more weapon combos, capcom and devs should give dmc2 another shot, remake and fix the game, no matter how much I do not enjoy dmc5's difficulty, dmc5 overall is still a good game, dmc2 deserves a fix and care from devs...
ah well, it's not like It will ever happened, at worst they might just remake dmc1 with more dmc5 streamline nonsense and way more noisy dmc4 and 5's rock songs.... I can dream at least xd
great video as usual! keep it up :D

Felt like dmc2 was a necessary evil huh? Great way to introduce some new ideas but w those bad circumstances they just couldn't get everything down juuuust right. But that criticisms pushed em to do a compleeeeeete 180 n make the all time classic DMC3. So in weird sorta way it's kinda good we got 2 haha
Without it who knows what 3 would've looked like
The music is easily the best part. Can't belive I nvr heard much of it before but it's super good that's for sure. N yea the city idea is pretty cool. Like when Trish n Dante run off into the street at the end of 1 got me thinking how a game like that would've been like. Can't think of much examples like it but maybe The Warriors? Small lil rundown city we can roam about n do all kinds of activities. Hmmm still seems like a really neat idea honestly. Especially to match a more moody n battle torn Dante
Ooooh glad you brought that up. From what I remember of bayo1. I can definitely tell it's made by Kamiya. so I'm excited to replay it n see what carried over from dmc1 to Bayo1. See to really get a clearer picture on how he approaches designing his games
The enemy n stage design is definitely something that's need some reminding. Fighting these enemies is such a huge part of the game so let's make em interesting yknow? Let's have em give us a challenge to really put our knowledge n execution to the test. That something dmc3 does Reeeeally well
N yea if they wanna remake any dmc game - It should be 2. 1 is perfect n I really don't think they should touch it but capcom will do capcom
But man thank You for watching n leaving such a thought out comment! I always like these

good review. the only part where youre actively wrong is the Trismagia fight. @10:20 you see the red head make a face, That means he is the active head to be targeted. All heads can be targeted for damge but they indicate which one with an animation. Im not giving you too much shit because no one really replays this particular DMC, just making the observation. also the 2 hit + direction into 3 hit is the most damaging normal combo but in DT you wanna spam 2 normal into direction hit.

This game is more of a lesson of what happens when the clueless higher ups thinks they know better than the very creatives who turned dust to gold in their first attempt. The original team has little to no involvement in this game and while some would say they were perhaps busy at the time working on other titles, reality is that DMC2 was greenlit w/o the original director or his team knowing much about it. This has to be one of the greatest blunders of all time when it comes to action games. An entirely different team was handled the reins and I've even heard the the original version of DMC2 wasn't even supposed to be a Devil May Cry game but rather something closer to a Tomb Raider like game. I really don't even wanna blame it on the DMC2 team either as they've shown that they're highly capable of making amazing action games going forward.
There's still cool things and fun to be had in this game but it's very much buried beneath a lot of monotony which is unfortunate as this game does introduce a lot of mainstay features that the fans take it for granted and praise DMC3 for em. DMC2 is also a rushed game as Itsuno did came into the development on the late stages and already was turning it around into a much more playable action game state that it currently is.
All in all I don't even consider this as a finished game but rather a beta build of a game. Capcom really made people pay up for playtesting a beta build of a game on the back of the OG DMC's reputation which would be something I'd find hilarious except that's very much a real normal thing to do nowadays by the AAAs so I guess they were just really ahead of the shitty curve on that one.

    • @o_uwu_o
      @o_uwu_o  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah I've read that a few times too. The whole tomb raider thing. I find that very interesting. Even read that this was being made before the 1st game was even finished too right? Something like that but yea it was definitely meant to be turned out super quick. I know alot of the changes were made bc of player feedback too. So w little time to really solve those complaints in a well thought out way. it seemed like they did what they could in that small time frame. But just like you said it for sure brought some ideas that luckily itsuno would build on a goooood bit in 3

    • @ship05u
      @ship05u 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@o_uwu_o I can't remember if that supposed TombRaider like prototype was in development before that as there's so little credible information about DMC2's development in general out there on purpose I'd say as Capcom till this day covers up for the original director for that game.
Itsuno took a big one for the company and that thankfully didn't lead up w/ his career ending or anything but if I was him I'd left after 3 considering how dirty they did him there but then again at that time the man was already several years deep in fighting for his passion project (Dragon's Dogma) so maybe that's why he didn't.
Since Capcom's been on remake city for a long time now and DMC remake is only a question of when and not if, I think a DMC2 remake has the opportunity to realize the game's potential but I'm not sure if Itsuno would be coming back for that or even for the OG DMC's remake as he has gone on record stating that he's done w/ mainline DMC or DMC in general w/ one exception. That exception being a possibility of a DmC2 and even that w/ Ninja Theory collab only.

Hmm, with this trend you are gonna touch my favorite one: DMC 3.
I am gonna share some stuff unique to 3. You can skate on 7 hells, all u need is to jump on them while knocked down. Knocking them down is damn easy too, if u launch/knockback or just hit them midair they are in knockdown state.
Every devil arm has crazy combo, powerful attacks that have great crowd utility. It's usually stunlocking a group of enemies but some like Cerberus deals lots of damage and knock em back instead. Amazing on 7 hells and chess pieces. Swordmaster and Gunslinger add more crazy combos too.
So 3 isn't purely air combo game like many think. The ground combat imo is really fun to play around with. You also have DT explosion that allows u to nuke group of enemies with enough DT orbs. Gaining DT is pretty easy, just enemy step, taunt, do crazy combos etc.
Also Royalguard is damn OP, not only as greatest damage generator but also best cancel tool.
Swordmaster crazy combos are also dam strong. Didn't play with Gunslinger enough to make an opinion. Trickster is ofc great to keep offense going and to avoid damage.
And that is without style switching. Didn't bring up Quicksilver which is amazing for avoiding dmg with s on activation. Doppelganger doubles the damage.

ALL good things - even some stuff I've heard ppl weren't fans of too. So itll be the usual mentions on what makes 3 great but w some added applause to aspects you don't really hear many bring up. Instead of echoing the same ol stuff - Hopefully my video will bring something new to add to the conversation that is dmc3.
