The #1 Concert so far is Rod Stewart at Copacabana Beach, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil(1994) - 4.2 million attendees. If you’re curious what 4.2 million people looks like, check out this video footage from Copacabana Beach on New Year’s Eve, 1994.
It actually showed up on the scale as tremors of a earthquake. There are soldiers who were meant to be on duty who ripped off their uniforms and joined in. They did get in trouble.
They've used "The Ecstasy of Gold" as their opening since the '80s, if I recall correctly. . . . Ron McGovney was their original bassist. He was fired and replaced by Cliff Burton. (He plays on the demo "No Life 'Til Leather".) Dave Mustaine was kicked out of Metallica when they were travelling to New York to record the first album ("Kill 'Em All) and Kirk Hammett was recruited to be the lead guitarist. Cliff died in a bus accident in '86 (Master of Puppet Tour). Jason Newstead replaced Cliff and did an excellent job. Jason left the band in 2001. Robert Trujillo (formerly of bands like Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, BLS, and Ozzy) replaced Jason and has been with them ever since. I hope that sums up their lineup accurately. There have been some people who filled in over the years on tour (e.g., when James broke his arm skateboarding). I can't recall, but I think Bob Rock filled in on bass for the St. Anger album. . . . Great reaction. Have fun doing more!
Now you’ve heard the original version of this iconic song (an absolute banger!), and enjoyed it! I think that you would definitely like the version of it that’s the #1 track on the Metallica Blacklist album by a band called The Warning. Three sisters from Monterey Mexico who originally covered it in 2014 when they were 9, 12 and 14 - their cover went viral and they were noticed by Metallica (who said their drummer kicks maximum ass). In 2021 they were asked by Metallica to do a reimagined version of it with Alessia Cara; this cover is amazing and it appears as the track #1 on the Blacklist album. It’s a regular addition to all of their concerts, earlier this year they did 4 gigs opening for Muse in Mexico after that Muse offered them the opportunity to tour with them on their European tour! As they were big fans of Muse they jumped at the opportunity and had excellent reviews throughout their tour and their own headline performances. They have 1x EP and 2x Albums that were crowdfunded by their fans and 1x album since they were signed by Lava records. For the maximum impact for a reaction it could consist of the original 2014 cover, the official video of the 2021 Blacklist album release and also a live performance from Teatro Metropolitan CDMX - their live performances are actually better than the official release versions. If you are interested and would like links to these I will only be too happy to share them with you.

This was just after the Berlin wall fell and the Soviet Union collapsed. Every person in the crowd lived in absolute hell for their entire lives. And then suddenly it was over and they got to experience this.
The opinion that under communism all the inhabitants of the USSR lived in hell is greatly exaggerated. Everyone lived in the order of the Soviet system. The idea of freedom is interesting. Only this was not freedom, but the anarchy of the 90s.
@@skydreamer3820 living in the Soviet Union was absolute hell for everyone. Read The White Pill by Michael Malice. Anarchy is freedom. The 90s era wasn't anarchy.
@@JRush374 I was born and raised in the Soviet Union, so I don't need to read books about "White Stools" to appreciate my past. The Soviet Union was called the "Red Evil Empire" only in the West, it is a collective literary image that has nothing to do with reality. Like any political system, Communism had its pros and cons. But the Soviet people were educated, well-read and cultured people. If you know Russian, I can send you an interview of people on Red Square in 1990, all people speak the highest literary language, it speaks about the lessons of Soviet education in those years. It was incomparably higher than the current one. And educated a priori cannot be bad. No murders in schools, no homeless people on the street, zero unemployment. Yes, not everyone was released abroad. But on the other hand, many could afford to rest at the sea or in holiday homes, both for themselves and for their children on vouchers from the employer.
@@JRush374 I lived in the 90s, crime, murder, protection of business by gangster groups and the seizure of business. High mortality from crime, drugs, alcohol. Demographic decline of the population, total poverty of people with higher education. Many did not survive this decade. So you don't have to tell me fairy tales about my country. Watch Scott Ritter's interview about the 90s in Russia. Watch Bill Clinton's interview where he tells how they helped Boris Yeltsin win the election in 1996. Whose specialists wrote the new constitution in the Russian Federation, whose specialists implemented reforms in education. So Bill Clinton and Frail Clinton openly said that they had taken trillions of dollars' worth of resources from the Russian Federation during these years.
They would have performed inside only - you cannot even park a vehicle outside for more than a few minutes or the tires will freeze to the ice. Planes come and go but they do not stay and they will continue to move slightly while on the ground. Although Antarctica is cold, they receive almost no snowfall - it is officially a desert - just a very cold one where the little moisture there is condenses as ice.
Metallica did indeed play in Antarctica. Because of International Antarctic Protocol, they weren't allowed to use amplifiers. So the concert was heard by the audience through headphones. Here's the concert: Freeze 'Em All: Live in Antarctica - th-cam.com/video/2Hi2u98VKxc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ekq554J9i0hBDMk9
Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe they played in Antarctica at McMurdo Station which is the largest base on the continent. The helicopters were dropping water on the crowd and flying low to fan the concert crowd because it was really hot and they were scared of heat exhaustion deaths!
Absolutely PHENOMENAL heavy metal rock concert! Indeed, Russia is the largest country on earth by territory, with a diverse topography, just like the USA. Thanks for your reaction.
Just to add that I seem to remember 45 were reported as dying at this concert! The AC/DC concerts at River Plate are usually said to be 200,000 over 3 sold out converts. However the 200,00 figure seems to be based upon a cpacity for a football match of 68,000 whereas for a concert they say that capacity is 76,000. Anyway it a huge number either way.
This was the show of show's. As the crowd gathered Metalica realized they didn't have enough power, so they added in about 60,000 watts of Russian built amps and speakers giving them a total of 135,000 watts. This show occurred either right before or right after the fall of the Soviet Union. These people had never been allowed to witness anything like this before and the Russian people are indeed rockers with approx. 2.1 million in attendance. It was EPIC.

All were celebrations of other things that happened to book a performer to perform during the event. This was strictly a concert and nothing else. So every single person here was here for a concert unlike the others where most were there for the celebration and happened to see a concert too. So this is much more impressive tbh
They have used that opening song, not enter sandman the intro to open all their shows since they were a band basically, I saw them twice in 1986 and both times they opened with ecstasy of gold..
It’s the same lead singer guitar player and drummer. Cliff Burton the bassist died in a car wreck in Holland in 1983. The rest of the members are the originals.
AC/DC were the headline act for this concert, it was a free concert for young Russians and 1.6 million turned out, it was held on an airfield just outside Moscow

This concert, they stopped counting the fans at 1.6 million people, they said for another hour people poured in, it's estimated to be more like 2.8 million
Never heard of the NY one. But there’s a few listed above this. However they are all either New Year’s Eve celebrations or national holiday’s where it was more than just a concert. Meaning people weren’t there just to see a concert. This is the largest concert ever in terms of everyone there being there FOR the concert, and nothing else
I believe 2 in Rio on the beach, 1 in Moscow, and 1 in France. The ones in Rio were for New Year’s Eve celebrations, the one in France was Bastille day so it was a national holiday so people were all over the place celebrating the holiday it wasn’t just the concert, and the one in Moscow was for like the 850th birthday of Moscow or something like that so same thing it was a city wide celebration it wasn’t just a concert. This was PURELY a concert
Apparently there’s now another one above this. Wasn’t in the list last time I checked but there’s one reported to be 1.8 which was in Rome in 2001 for AS Roma’s 3rd Series A Victory. But again that sounds like just a celebration for a victory and they had someone perform for entertainment during it but it wasn’t specifically for the concert. I mean that would be like saying the people performing every NYE in NYC are performing for over 1 mil every year. But in reality they aren’t because all those people aren’t there for that, plus only like 100k people are actually in Times Square to see the ball drop and the stage where the acts perform. Everyone else is wrapped up side streets and behind buildings and far away where they can’t even see or hear lol
All those military guards at that moment had no bosses to answer to. The Soviet Union fell. They didn't have to be there, in fact you can see a few that unbuttoned their gear and joined the party while other guards killed like a dozen rowdy teens.
I'm laughing at the faces seeing that crowd. 1.6 million after the fall of communism and President Regans' famous quote...Mr Gorbachev, take down that wall. This festival was the first of its kind to play there.
This is the greatest example of the squandered opportunity we had to make long lasting, enduring peace with Russia. You can feel the good will, and it all got pissed away.
This concert took place shortly after the fall of the Iron Curtain. The crowd went crazy cause it was the first time they were allowed to freely watch American/Western rock.
The concert was also about a month after the failed coup by Soviet hardliners who wanted to reestablish Communist power. Some of the soldiers in the crowd may have been part of the troops sent to the city who refused to fire on civilians and pro-freedom crowds, which helped defeat the coup. One of the enduring images from the coup was Boris Yeltsin climbing on a tank to address the crowds. There's a young soldier you can see early in the video; he's on another person's shoulders, with his tunic unbuttoned, and he has the black collar tabs of a tanker. I like to think that young man was one of the many draftees sent there by the Communist hardliners who expected the soldiers to follow orders, but who instead proved they just wanted to be free to rock.
Over 1 million people. Some estimates as high as 2 million people there. More like 1.6 million. So basically the entire population of Boston and Denver all there at 1 convert lol. Wild. 😜
Estimated at 3.5 which is tied with another. Also wasn’t just for a concert. It was NYE so everyone there wasn’t there for the concert. They were there for NYE and the celebration. In fact all the concerts listed above this one are all similar to that. This is the largest strictly concert attendance on record. As in, everyone there was there for the concert. No other reason. All the other ones that are claimed to be more, have some other celebration going on and they just booked someone to perform at the celebration vs people coming strictly JUST for the concert
@@TheJerseyNinja Even if they came for initially another reason, they were all at the Copacabana beach listening, and it was organised by MTV. People from all around the world came, I remember very well.
@@jrgdrumsandwatches I’m not saying it doesn’t count, just that it’s different. This is arguably much more impressive considering every single person there was there for the concert and nothing else. They went out of their way to go to this location JUST for a concert. Vs going to a celebration/event and seeing a concert while you’re there that just happens to be there. Yes there were more people there, but if they just simply did it as JUST a concert on a different date, it likely wouldn’t have surpassed the 1.6 of this concert. Or at least would have been very close
The largest crowd for any concert ever. I don't think it will ever be matched or surpassed. Metallica stayed playing live shows for over 2 and a half years solid worldwide to get their fan base built from grassroots to where they are today. Arguably the biggest metal band ever was,is or will be. I remember telling friends who weren't into metal that they would take over the world and got ridiculed and laughed at by most everyone including my metal head buddies. Lo and behold I got the last laugh. Also if they wouldn't have fired Dave Mustaine we wouldn't have been blessed with Megadeth. Dave was probably one of the most influential thrash metal musicians who absolutely deserves credit for ushering in the wonderful world of Thrash metal. Thanks for a great reaction. I really enjoy watching you guys react to one of the grandfathers of thrash metal. More please! Lol.
There have been at least 4 concerts with a bigger crowd, including Rod Stewart who topped 4.2 million on Copacabana Beach and Jean-Michel Jarre at over 3.5 million in Moscow 1997 and over 2.5 million in Paris 1990. Of course if you include TV audience then there's Live Aid which had about 1.9 Billion watching.
I was laughing so hard when on Facebook, bieber put a pic of him in front of 350,000 fans and metallica shared bitch please! With a pic of this legendary gig 😅😅😅

The look on the girls faces when they panned out and showed the whole crowd! Priceless!
I can't stop laughing at that lady's reaction to the crowd 😂😂
It actually showed up on the scale as tremors of a earthquake.
There are soldiers who were meant to be on duty who ripped off their uniforms and joined in. They did get in trouble.
The concert was held at an abandoned airfield just outside Moscow. The concert was free. That's why there were so many people.
60s,70s and 80s were the absolute best for Rock! That's why it is still played with such popularity even today.

I’ve seen this and is very good!
The thoughts of the guy in the hat as he bobs his head: "me me me, me me me....memeeee me me me me ME ME ME!!!"
It’s in Tushino in an airfield hints why it’s such a big crowd great reaction
This was just after the fall of the USSR and this concert was at one of the largest active Air Force bases, thus the military aircraft seen flying in and out, 4th largest concert in history 1.4M - 1.6M+, crazy! did you see all the towers circling the main stage? they all had speakers wired to the main stage to surround the crowd in music
Today the bass player is Robert Trujillo, great reaction!!
Looks say a thousand words lol. 1.6million people. Soldiers got a reward for what bands they wanted to see. This was a festival on a airfield. People flocked from other countries around Russia. Hense all the different flags in the crowd.
This could be the most epic moment in Rock History.
Rod Stewart (UK) at Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on New Year’s Eve 1994-audience of 4.2 million
Jean-Michel Jarre Moscow concert on 6 September 1997, which was attended by 3.5 million people.😊
This was just after the Berlin wall fell and the Soviet Union collapsed.

I was born and raised in the Soviet Union, so I don't need to read books about "White Stools" to appreciate my past.
@@JRush374
I lived in the 90s, crime, murder, protection of business by gangster groups and the seizure of business.

There's a reason that it was called "The Monsters of Rock" tour...insane lineup of bands and artists.
Here's the concert:
Freeze 'Em All: Live in Antarctica - th-cam.com/video/2Hi2u98VKxc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ekq554J9i0hBDMk9
Pantera also played here, in 1991. Huge crowd!!! The Russian cops were scared shitless!!!!!
Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe they played in Antarctica at McMurdo Station which is the largest base on the continent.
The helicopters were dropping water on the crowd and flying low to fan the concert crowd because it was really hot and they were scared of heat exhaustion deaths!
this was the first free concert in russia in 70 years, it is obvious that this received a "warm" reception
introduction of a genius....The Ecstasy Of Gold, Ennio Morricone.
Just awesome right!!! Rod Stewart's New Year's Eve performance had 4.2 million in attendance just blows my mind.
lars ulrich is co founder of Metallica and he is from Denmark. and they did record in Denmark in my city - brondby
Absolutely PHENOMENAL heavy metal rock concert! Indeed, Russia is the largest country on earth by territory, with a diverse topography, just like the USA. Thanks for your reaction.
Need more Metallica reactions. Nothing else matters and Fade to black should be the first ones
That crowd is truly insane. Imagine being in that sea of humanity.
1.6 MILLION people. Absolute madness. ❤
I saw Metallica in 1988 first time Legend Valley Ohio. I went on to serve. And Justice 4 All was the thing when I enlisted
👁☝️⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡🌋🌋🌋🔥🔥👊💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
This was the show of show's. As the crowd gathered Metalica realized they didn't have enough power, so they added in about 60,000 watts of Russian built amps and speakers giving them a total of 135,000 watts. This show occurred either right before or right after the fall of the Soviet Union. These people had never been allowed to witness anything like this before and the Russian people are indeed rockers with approx. 2.1 million in attendance. It was EPIC.
List of the Largest Concerts Ever
Rod Stewart at Copacabana Beach (1994) - 4.2 million attendees. ...
Jean Michel Jarre at State University of Moscow (1997) - 3.5 million attendees. ...
Jorge Ben Jor at Copacabana Beach (1993) - 3 million attendees. ...
Jean Michel Jarre at La Défense (1990) - 2.5 million attendees.
All were celebrations of other things that happened to book a performer to perform during the event. This was strictly a concert and nothing else. So every single person here was here for a concert unlike the others where most were there for the celebration and happened to see a concert too. So this is much more impressive tbh
I saw them at the Molson Ice Polar Beach Party, in Tuktoyaktuk. In the Arctic Circle.
Holy moly! That's awesome!!
One word, POWERFUL
That was on the Mosvow Airport
Awesome cool song yay, awesome concert, seen them live in concert 3 times kick butt in all the concert 🤘😆🤘🎸🎸🎤🥁🔥🔥🔥🔥
That whole album is amazing
I saw them in November 91, they opened every show with sandman from 91-94 at least
The james interview with joe rogan about this show is a fun watch. Seen them live 3 times in boston, 2004, 2009,2017
LEGEND HAS IT PEOPLE ARE STILL LEAVING THIS GIG.
That's what freedom looks like!
My home county in the USA of 4200 sq miles only has 64K people.... yeah this concert had had 26x people on an airfield and that is if it was only 1.5M
They have used that opening song, not enter sandman the intro to open all their shows since they were a band basically, I saw them twice in 1986 and both times they opened with ecstasy of gold..
Hello, I am Razzaq from Iraq. I enjoyed watching your reaction to Metallica. It was interesting. I visited your Instagram page and liked your posts
Thank you!
I was 17 and Metallica fan since 1986....
It’s the same lead singer guitar player and drummer. Cliff Burton the bassist died in a car wreck in Holland in 1983. The rest of the members are the originals.
The death of the Soviet Union, right here!
1,5 ,ilion of people at this concert...i was present111 that concert was AMAZING111
AC/DC were the headline act for this concert, it was a free concert for young Russians and 1.6 million turned out, it was held on an airfield just outside Moscow
Hahaha OMG Kathy's face when the crowd was revealed is just *chef's kiss*
It's insane how many people showed up. I wish Russia would have been more of an ally to us after the fall of the USSR. Well, at least they got to experience this top tier band in their prime.
I just found y'all last night through I think a Chris Stapleton vid, and you better believe I'm gonna go through your whole back catalogue. Beautiful family, much
One of the most amazing concerts ever! Those good times when the world was a better world.
This concert, they stopped counting the fans at 1.6 million people, they said for another hour people poured in, it's estimated to be more like 2.8 million
Domination from the same crowd
This is why I love rock. 🎶
They were opening for AC/DC. AC/DC stage right there. AC/DC crowd.
There was a concert in New York that had 3.6 million people. Another concert in Brazil had 3.5 million in attendance. Crazy lol
Не надо врать! Там не было ни одного погибшего человека, хотя организаторы очень переживали на этот счёт. Зачем вы врёте про убитых? 🙄
This concert in 91 came right after the fall of the Berlin wall, and the USSR in 1989
I saw them in 06 with Ozzy, awesome concert.
Jason lives anout 10 miles from me on upstate ny. He lives on Skaneateles lake
That was the Modelo beer song.
Rod Stewards concert in 1994 on the main beach of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro - Copacabana 3.5milion....
Wow
Over 1 million people. Some estimates as high as 2 million people there. More like 1.6 million. So basically the entire population of Boston and Denver all there at 1 convert lol. Wild. 😜
Rod Stewart, 1994 in Rio de Janeiro had 4.2 millions there. Still the biggest crowd for a concert to date 😉
We'll add it to the list.
@@TheJerseyNinja shure I get what you mean
This concert including multiple bands including AC/DC among others
You have that kid who looks like the late Cliff Burton Metallica, look at that beautiful face and his hair style😊🙏🏻
In a way, very sad when you think back to the possibilities that 1991 opened up between East and West, but that one man with foolish and insane dreams of empire demolished everything and rebuilt the Iron Curtain.
I like how it started with the Danish orchestra "The good the bad and the ugly"....Great intro leading into "Enter Sandman".
Actually that is "Ecstasy of Gold" by Ennio Morricone, featured in the film The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
This was held at an abandon airfield just outside of Moscow.
the look on your daughters face is awesome. reminds me of when i first heard metallica.
"That song" (the good, the bad and the ugly) isn't from Metallica. It's from Ennio Morricone, an Italian composer (winner of Oscar prize to the career, nominated for other 5 movies...)
