lolli , if you are new to metallica, then the studio version of their song "ONE" with the official video is so impossibly perfect for this channel it will blow your mind. almost no rock song will take you on a journey as magnificent as that artwork. ( the more people who like this, the more likely she is to do it soon. remember that she gave us ' paradise by the dashboard light" after the people spoke. then we beheld meat loaf, a cover of them by nutroast, and we experienced "big surprise energy")

If you didn’t grow up in the Cold War, you’ll never fully grasp what this performance meant to those of us who did. Metallica performing in Moscow meant that the fall of the Berlin Wall was REAL. Communism wasn’t coming back in Russia anytime soon. And the Russian people turning out in their millions and banging their heads was a way of expressing their desire for freedom. It was beautiful. This video, and “Winds of Change by Scorpions, which dropped the same year this was recorded, still get me a little choked up. It was such a magnificent, hopeful time to be 20 years old.

The opening is Ennio Morricone's "Ecstasy of Gold", which is fitting since Metallica went in hard on anyone remotely affiliated with music downloading. I have to imagine playing in front of 1.6 million people probably gets your adrenaline going harder than normal. I'd be interested to see the time duration of this versus the studio version, or a live version at a smaller venue.

What gets me about seeing this (as well as watching younger people realise that, yes, concerts used to be like this) is I can now see just how utterly scared af James is up there. At my age, he looks like a kid (granted, he kinda was...a lot of musicians were barely in their 20s) but it brings home how ridiculous it was to expect young musicians to be able to deal with that kind of thing unscathed. A lot of my musician friends didn't make it through the stress of it - I quit early (panic attacks? Yep, I had 'em, we all did...) and it probably saved my life. BUT, man, I missed being on a stage with a bunch of people screaming in delight before you even start a note. Nothing beats it, nothing will replace it.
Thanks for the video, and the memories!

Having performed on stage myself (albeit not to anything like this crowd) I can't even imagine the weird symbiotic tennis match of a crowd of this size feeding on the energy of the band, and the band riding the waves of energy coming off the crowd. That's just gotta be as close to magic as we mere mortals are capable. Transcendent.

This vid is always worth watching, it is mind blowing, and country blowing. But you made me think about it, I still do not have any real idea, but ty for your exposition. I still do not understand, my ex was a music therapist but I never understood, you have gotten the closest to helping me understand.

Killer Reaction one of my favorite songs!!! You got to check out (THE WARNING) Version of this song (live at the PEPSI CENTER) ,that is to die for they literally had a week to rip apart the song and reconstruct it back together as a new song for (METALLICA 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BLACK ALBUM) and the best part you will love is that thay add a orchestra string section to make the song abit more dark. Hope you enjoy it.

I just dont understand why people think live versions of songs are better than the studio version, when they factually are not.
Go look at the view count for live versions of any song and then their ORIGINAL STUDIO version and we'll see where the average high view count is at; spoiler:
      its not the live version.

    • @MR-MR-ud5oo
      @MR-MR-ud5oo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

People fall in love w/ the band and their music based on their ORIGINAL STUDIO version, thats why they go see them live to begin with.
If everyone wants to scream at me other wise because "the live version is a different vibe/feel/flavor.." fine, but dont try and gaslight me that it is "the best version".

Welcome back Lolli, you have heard the Enter Sandman riff before through the video with the tiny sisters from The Warning when they were very young. I like the Metallica original, but the recent The Warning version is (in my opinion) better.

    Happy day!!!! Lolli's back!!!!
The riff likely sounded familiar because this is the song The Warning covered. The one that you saw when they were itty bitty bambinis. Which makes me think that it might be time for you to revisit them. I recommend "23". And in light of large audiences (200k, though its nothing close to this) another recommendation that comes to mind is AC/DC. AC/DC had two iconic voices that I don't think you've listened to yet. The one linked here is Brian Johnson.

I never knew what I didn't know about listening to Metallica. Maybe it's because I've listened to them since I was knee-high to a grasshopper in the 80's and never put thought into the music because I was immediately struck by it. Thank you for going into detail about it all.
I'm sure it's been mentioned, but the little boy voice in that bridge-y section is a backing track from the studio recording. Jason Newstead vocals in the live performances were always awesome when blended with Hetfield's.
You were a delight, very informative, and just a joy to listen to and watch. I loved the video; I love your look as Magenta; I await your next video with great antici........ pation.
