My goodness!!! 👍🏻 You sure know your "stuff"!!! Love watching you...always good info and done really well!!! Thank you so much for all the effort in keeping "us" in the loop! ❤❤❤
I found a super trick since I purchased a lot of used saddles in the past year rehabbing a rescue that had a fun back to fit (high withers, big shoulders, short backed, etc). I purchased a car detailing kit from my local autozone with all of the tiny detailing brushes for a new car that I had purchased and found out... THEY ARE AMAZING ON SADDLES!!!!
CC, I have learned, since subscribing, the horse ownership is not nearly having a pet pony but it's a whole lifestyle. This gives me a whole NEW level of appreciation for what you are doing and will do for a longtime!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I know absolutely nothing about horses other than they are majestic animals. Watching your videos has really been informative and enjoyable to watch. This video is no different in that you look beyond the surface of something and put in the work to bring out what's beneath the surface. Thanks for sharing
i adopted my mini and arabian knowing zilch abt horses and know nothing about saddle care so in my next life it wont be trial by fire learning but it has been wonderful having horses
That is surely an outstanding example of a combination of good materials and equipment plus hard physical effort and attention to minor but important details to add significant major value to a quality product purchased really well (cheap!) in the first place. I'm sure you must feel proud of what you have achieved.
A little side step as one of the Clever Cowgirl fans---maybe it's the Before & After, THIS vid reminds me of the importance & benefits of 'pet projects', and 'Honey Do' lists of tasks, especially just tending a thing, working 'quietly' & stages in between the steps; working with our hands on a side project & how it can clear the head, or help think something through. (Gardening & lots of things DIY offer this option.) I enjoy your vids b/c you offer educational & interesting 'takes' on things. There's beginning, middle, end---and you finish what you start. Easy-peasy. I also like that prices are just part of doing business--and you think pragmatically, if you can't use it, you can sell it & let it go. Beautiful.
I always enjoyed deep cleaning my horse tack. And the cleaners add such a lovely aroma to the work area! I bought an old but never used lightly tooled black western saddle LOADED with ugly clip thru conchas. It was awful, but very inexpensive because it was so tacky. I took off about 5lbs of metal garishness to find a beautiful saddle with very little tooling that was so dusty it almost looked gray. It cleaned up to a lovely shine. I used 2 plastic credit type cards to clean the seams the first and all subsequent cleanings. And I used a sticky wax to finish since it was a slick seat and I never wanted to slide off! I never considered rebuilding saddles so I really admire your skills and business sense in finding good quality tack and putting in the effort to improve and sell or use it yourself. Love your information and videos. Keep up all the good work.
I've restored a few pairs of leather boots lately, very similar process :) It's so nice to see things get repaired and maintained rather than thrown out and replaced.
I remember as a kid the people that had the stable down the road would let me take their saddles home one at a time and I would clean them in the rec room. I would do anything horsey . One huge Western saddle weighed close to 50 lbs. But it was a beauty. Inlaid silver. I worked for weeks and loved it. They would let me and my sister she was 11 and I was 13 take out horses and ride them. I always put my sister on Cheetah. Because he was the most well trained and well mannered. But one day as we centered through the hay field he stepped in a hole and he was okay but he bucked once. She only weighed 70 lbs. And when she came off her arm hit the saddle and broke. I had to carry her to the barn put her back on Cheetah and lead her back home. It was a clean break. And back then even on someone's horse and property no one held anyone responsible it was an accident. Brenda was back on as soon as it healed. 😮😢❤
Yep, I DID find that as satisfying as you did! I actually miss cleaning tack. There’s something meditative about it and the sensory aspects of it- the feel of the leather, the sounds of scrubbing and buffing, the smells of everything- fantastic. Love this video. Also love the cats! Pumpkin is so cute, especially in those fall leaves! Who is that adorable grey kitty? I must know!
Did anybody else have flashbacks to junior high and cleaning your face with Neutrogena soap when she brought out the Orange glycerin in plastic packaging?😆 I just can’t get enough of your videos and everything you do. Thank you for all that you do❤
Wow! You're hired! amazing clean up and now I got new goals during bug season (month of May, little blk flies are terrible here) - blessings always n keep being kind!
This is such a good idea. I have an older but still great dark brown saddle I can’t get sold because everybody wants a black one. I’ll just dye it myself. Didn’t think of that before.
I love this channel although I know almost nothing about horses. The thrift shopping is so much fun and obviously provides a reasonable income to care for the horses. I admire how all your previous experiences have led you to this place. You’re heading into Spring as we are heading into Autumn. Love from NZ.
With your extensive knowledge of tack and your restoration skills, you could easily start another channel focusing on these. This one was so interesting!
I have never had a horse, but I love them and that is what brought me to this channel. I never thought I would learn so much about them tho! Thank you for all you share with us! This video was utterly satisfying!
You are fab getting the saddle back to a lovely state. I would have probably used a conditioner before the wax, but that might not have been cost effective. You are a real inspiration , and thank you for your videos.
I belong to a historical society in the middle of two urban areas. The Society was given a saddle said to belong to one of the original settlers but had been dumped in the attic of the garage for three generations. It took two years to find anyone to give us a history by appearance but in the meantime we cleaned it based on what I remembered from cleaning tack sixty years ago, and watching You Tube. I never cleaned a saddle until that one and can see this spring there are a couple of things I need to do. Thanks for this video. Oh, my grandfather had one mule left by the time I came around.
Excellent transformation of your saddle. It was amazing to see how much you were able to bring it back to looking great. It will now look amazing on your horse. It truly pays to get a saddle like this and redo it. It took a lot to do, but was really worth it. Keep up the great videos. Have a blessed end of the week.
Nice project !! The right knee-block looks like it needs a little re-flocking??!! Like abandoned, neglected horses, there is soooo much great old tack out there and with a little TLC much of it can be amazing !!! Last week I found a near-new Rembrandt dressage saddle at an estate auction and took her home for $320,,,,in my size !!! I don't often ride English, but couldn't pass it up.
I think you did a really quality job. I used the finish you used on my work boots, in the winter time specifically. It worked great. And of course a couple of times throughout the year. Nice, nice job. I always had the belief that if someone criticized my work, I always told them if they could do better to please show me and never had any takers 🤔🤔. It looks great.
Yeees Loved to watch this Video! Especially since I 'I was with you' ; )) when you bought it! My self I loooove to do such Work; getting things better and fresh looking again. Very satisfying indeed!
I remember looking up Hermes saddles really to see if they even existed and ..yes for a few grand (at that time). I love what you were able to do with this one; a great purchase then a stellar finish. and wax/ oil; sweet and it’s going to last! better than buying new elbow grease aside! thanks for the product recommendations as well.
This saddle is completely stunning!! Love the Leather and love the way it's made!! Just beautiful!! A horse would love 💕💕💕💕 to be under that!! Great Job in buying this !! You have excellent taste!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
This transformation is so satisfying! One question please Dressage tests are ridden in white britches, so I have concerns about dye transfer. Have you ridden this saddle to see if there is color transfer?
I was wondering if you’ve ever had trouble with your dye turning green during the process? I’m currently trying to dye a jump saddle to a darker shade of brown, and in a matter of minutes the color appears as an oily green shade.. any tips??
If they are small you can use something like the leather balm, the wax will fill in the cracks. if they are big they may have damaged the leather permanently.

I just checked them out. She is doing normal baby horse stuff! She needs some training and enrichment, probably not the best fit for a sanctuary type setting.
Your talents and knowledge never cease to amaze me. Loved watching this video!

Lovely to see old things renewed.

I'm glad you take the time and film this stuff for us as an audience. It is quite useful and entertaining.

I love getting my favorite boot brand from eBay and restoring the scuffs and leather. I agree!
You rock, Cowgirl!💗💗💗
It turned out really nice, I hope it fits Skelator, it would look so nice on his beautiful back
So satisfying to watch. Great job!
Why buying quality pays in the long run! Well done clever girl!❤
Great work, looks brand new! GM
Wow! Well done! You transform horses and saddles! 🐴❤
OMG! My last dressage saddle was made by M. Stokes. It was custom to my Canadian Hunter cross. So very nice to see one restored. Love your channel.
I'm inspired to tackle my saddle using your tips. It needs it.

Beautiful job. Lovely....
Nice work! So many people don't clean their tack.
If the panels stuffing is still ok that is a really nice saddle.
The Saddle Turned Out Beautiful ! Well Done .
Fantastico

You have another barn cat? Name? Excellent!
House cat, Ragnar! He is the mouse mouser!
This was fascinating to watch. I learned sooo much. And we might be sisters in our Chewy purchases!
I LOVE Chewy! They are the only ones who ship the feed I give my horses!
@@TheCleverCowgirl you can’t beat someone delivering 50 lbs of dog food to,your front door!
Have you tried bees wax with Orange oil on your leather?
I use it on Bible leather, makes like new
That one I haven’t tried!
Awesome 🎉. This is inspiring
Good job!
Hello 👋 from Arkansas
I completely agree😊 that's why I was reaching out to you wondering if you would reach out to him they are so lost with her
This transformation is so satisfying! One question please
Dressage tests are ridden in white britches, so I have concerns about dye transfer. Have you ridden this saddle to see if there is color transfer?
Not real worried about that yet 😁
So satisfying!
Beautiful job! Where do you sell these saddles?
Local consignment or on Ebay sometimes.
I was wondering if you’ve ever had trouble with your dye turning green during the process? I’m currently trying to dye a jump saddle to a darker shade of brown, and in a matter of minutes the color appears as an oily green shade.. any tips??
I presume that you use a similar approach on other parts of the horse's leatherwork? Dan
Yes!
What can you use for cracked leather?
If they are small you can use something like the leather balm, the wax will fill in the cracks. if they are big they may have damaged the leather permanently.

Am I the only one worried about the pretty saddle pad?
👍
I would suggest repacking the knee rolls.
I'm pretty sure they are a dense foam, hoping they puff up again now that it is not being squished!
🤞@@TheCleverCowgirl
That looks really good! With the deflated..."ba-thingy" on the side, would it be possible to fix it? Just curious.
Its puffing up everyday! I think they had another saddle stacked on top of it, hopefully it will be back to normal in a few weeks!
👍🐎👍🐎👍
