I had to wait and get her coggins after I got her home. She was so sweet and a looker. I was the only one to bid on her. I got her cleaned up, got some great pics of her and sold her to a great family and a little girl. She started to do a showmanship pattern, and already had a paint she was showing. She says, " she does it better than Chip!" Her horse. I only had her for about 3 weeks. And only charged about $150 to recoup some money. This was about 12 years ago. I did go to a big auction that Addis Equine auction was trying to get off the ground in my area for Arabians and crosses, I bought a gelding with papers 1/2 Saddlebred/Arabian for $200, but I got him for a local barn because they couldn't make it to the sale. He went on to be a show horse. The big auction company just couldn't get in enough good horses and sell high enough to make it worth their while

I bought a young unregistered no known past buckskin at an auction several years ago. I liked him for exactly the reason you liked Prim-calm and sweet natured. He turned into a beautiful 17 hand horse who ended up with a hunter whose 23 year old buckskin had died that winter. It was a match made in heaven-I get Christmas cards from him every year with a picture.
Prim has turned out to be a stunning, calm, and easily trainable mare. She is a gift for anyone desiring an exceptional horse. I'm sure her prior owner is so happy that Prim ended up with you. She's a beauty! (QH?). I picked up a scraggly ratty looking pony at a small country auction a few years back. She had been running half wild and was around 4 years old. Skinny but with so much Winter coat she didn't look too bad. To cut a long story short, 'Possum' progressed into a lovely dapple grey with dark legs, hard hooves and very trainable. I found out later from a friend of the former owner that she was a Welsh pony and at one time all his ponies had been registered - I wish I had bought a couple more - but space did not permit. She was 'broken' and because she was only 13hh too small for us to keep so was sold to a family, the little boy (he was about 9) took her around the yard, rode her, petted her etc - love at first sight - and his Dad said yes. We later saw a photo of her at a regional show, the boy was jumping her and they won their class. They kept her name, 'Possum'.
Shows exactly why it's so amazing that you try to reach out to former owners - people can fall on terrible times and have to make terrible decisions all the time, and giving a former owner who felt guilt and fear over this thing largely out of her control comfort at knowing her horse was saved against the odds is amazing
In my experience, most kill pen horses, or likely to go to kill pen horses with general health & nutritional issues, injuries, trauma with behavioral issues, or a combination thereof, are a huge challenge that most casual riders/owners are simply not equipped to manage. Successes are not the norm and the horses often find themselves back at auction. Your presentations are so honestly detailed they should be required viewing for those ready to embark on transforming a rescue. Most horse owners I have met over time have HUGE hearts. Their love of the horse and strong emotions to save are extraordinary. Sadly, where it often hits a wall is when there lack of understanding around the significant cost, time, required high level of training experience & trauma savvy, patience, unanticipated setbacks, and occasional failures that go with the territory. There are no shortcuts with what you do and it is clearly, without exception, detailed in each video. Well done!
Prim's rescue from Auction is the Fairytale. You are absolutely right that she would have been border bound if you had not picked her up. So happy the former owner was a good person and happy to share information with you. I hope the former owner's life has improved considerably.
Amazing! I am very happy for Primrose and also her previous owners. It must be such a big relief for them. They seem like very nice people who just could not cope with their current life situation. For them to know that Primrose is safe and thriving must make them feel soo much better.
She tried for a long time to keep her! It is a sad reality, but most regular horse people are left in the same position when one or two unexpected things cause a heavy financial burden.
@@petranassphotography Shipped to Canada for slaughter. Luckily since I bought Prim the closest holding facility has closed down. Changes are finally happening that will make it less financially viable to profit from slaughtering America’s horses ❤️
Yes I would take a chance. Lovely filly, good conformation and I really like her distinctive colouring. My horse in Australia when I migrated, was a brumby and was given to me as vicious and unbreakable. She was a lead mare in character and turned out a top horse that could do and would do anything I asked of her. Full of courage and could jump anything and go anywhere....we had many adventures riding for miles in the bush, never put a foot wrong and we covered some rough country. Highly intelligent and worked with you when any sticky situation arose but a one person horse. Her daughter had a different nature but sometimes her mother shone through...I like the challenge of winning those arrogant characters over, their trust is a true gift.
God smiles on you. Too many people dealing with horses are terrible. They may be professionals but they care very little about the horses. You do such great work.
There are great rescues like Horse Plus (Tennessee), Gentle Spirit Horses (South Dakota), Rockin KT Equine (Nevada) ... so there are people who do 1) love horses-treat them kindly and keep them, 2) run into financial challenges, 3) pass the horse on. At least people like Clever Cowgirl and the aforementioned are doing what they can. I came across a concert pianist who plays for (formerly abused) elephants: Paul Barton. He and his family do what they can for animals as well in their own way. In thinking today about the sad passing of Skeletor , I also hope it may lead to your adoption of another needy horse as fine as Primrose. She may have been in generally better shape than most rescues, but without your intervention, I doubt her future would have been good. And what an all around spectacular horse, solid in body and mind, she is becoming! ❤️👍🏻
Yes, I've thought about Skeletor too. He was so special. Am so glad to see Prim have such a wonderful life with CC. And Skeletor did have a good life with CC too. I respect CC so much for taking these chances and doing her best. Prim is now a beautiful house.
In rescue, we see so much neglect that when we finally come across an owner with genuine love for their animals it is so touching. I ride that high for months! Usually it’s very bad financial situations that lead to these great owners giving up their pets- and usually they have to convince themselves it’s for the pets best interest. It’s heartbreaking but heartwarming at the same time. I hope Prim’s old owner sees this. She would be so delighted to see Prim flourishing under your care.
I am overwhelmed! It is wonderful to see how these horses change so much because of the perfect treatment in every way. It is good to know, that there are still people like you, that give neglected horses a chance.
We cannot blame the former owner for their horrible life changes that mean they must sell their horses. I'm a retired dog trainer and have found the same thing. Once the basics are taught and the consistent lifestyle is established, the creatures respond beautifully. There is no need to force them into behaviors we want. They just remember and offer. My trauma dogs have some quirks, and some silly behaviors like hiding all the bones in the closet behind all the shoes. Prim is lovely and lucky to have found you. My body no longer lets me ride safely, so I am so glad you are doing the work.
Just love Prim -what a gem she turned out to be. 60 years ago, I had a mare like Prim, but she was a Connemara straight from Ireland. She was with me for 10 years but sadly she got Navicula. In those days there was no cure, so it was a visit to the vets. Such a sad day that was. So watching you schooling Prim and bringing her on has been a treat. Am enjoying your videos. Xxx
Primrose is a real beauty! So so happy you took her home with you. All the horses have a story how they ended up at an auction. Have you ever thought about writing children's books? Horse stories with happy endings. 🐎❤️🐎❤️
This was truly inspirational in many ways----and it lets people know that even a deliberately bred and registered horse can be at risk. Thank goodness for YOU, that you were there for that auction.
I don't think enough horseowners know how beneficial ground driving with loneliness can be. I like yout training style with the compassion you show to the horses!!
Female version of Frisco Bill! You said Prim was a sweet natured horse at the auction. Then, she even turned out to be a well bred registered Quarter Horse. Frisco Bill is in love with her, and I think it would be wonderful for you to train her all of Frisco's skills. Very nice for you to have a smart, beautiful horse you can ride or show which has no health or behavior issues!
What a beautiful mare! Personally I would never buy any horse at auction, but you have shown the possibility of a good outcome. The reason I say I would never... is because I don't know horses well enough. However, if I ever decide to try, I hope I would be able to find a friend with enough "horse sense" to bring an outcome like yours with Primrose! Love this video!
I only rescue! U are being responsible!! Instead, of getting in over ur head! I just don't get how anyone, that says they ❤ their 🐴 would send 2 auction knowing could go 2 slaughter??? Nope n Nope
A perfect example of a diamond in the rough. What a gorgeous horse Primrose turned out to be! Her lucky day was the day you bought her. I have always said, a person doesn't have to spend a fortune to buy a perfect horse. This is a perfect example! I just love her, but I tend to like mares.💕
She's an absolute beauty! You gave this lovely girl the opportunity to live and grow up to become an elegant and beautiful lady. She's a princess. This is what l like about you. You save horses without judging them so harshly like others do at auctions. You are not picky or choosy. You act out of love and compassion towards these creatures. I enjoyed so much watching your video. Wish you all the best❤
I can only imagine the work, the expense the time, live and patience you must have. But oh my goodness, the pride and satisfaction that must come from turning these poor guys/gals into beautiful horses has got to outweigh it all. Prim has hot to be a top 5 horse, but my favorite still has to be Scarlett. Hope you'll give us an update on her and Skeletor and the others in your stables. So nice to see the beginning and current pics of all your "kids" 😂😂
I sold my Buckskin mare to the wrong woman who mistreated her in central Ca. She had no white markings, double swirl on forehead, now 16 years old June 2. I owned her from 5 months to 11 years on Santa Maria I love her and would love to have her back. Registered AQHA name Chardonnay Sunrise😢
Hi, I wanted to say, I love what you're doing. In the Nethelands we don't have a lot of auction horses, but last december( 2 days before xmas) I rescued a gypsymare from slaughter. She only weight 350 kg (normal is in between 500-650 kg), 11 years, 140 cm sholder. She could not walk 20 meter from all the pain she had and last 2 years not going out of her stable, breedmare. 6 Years ago they made an accident with her (back and even het hindknee was popped out, never had specialists on her). So I did gave her all what I thought she needed. And now I can say, she is happy and painfree. I found out she is in fear doing soe groundwork , so I treaing her with patience and love, she is doing already better. I only don't know how to put on 2 lines for groundwork but I will get it in time :) thank you for all what your doing and I do think this mare of you is georgious, I would have saved her to if I could.
To pick up a horse like Prim is terrific. As a trainer with a passion for rescue, the Prim type horses can be an "asset" in supporting rescue! To have the ability to train and sell select horses will do many things! Build reputation for training, honesty and quality! It can grow and support rescue. Both sides of the coin, so to speak!! The growth can lean to even building an arena and training facility along with areas for rescue!
What a blessing you found her and could take care of her so you could bring some peace of mind to her former owner. Gorgeous and sweet Primrose is soon going to make her new owner very happy. You've done such a fabulous job with her CC.
As someone said already: Don't know enough about horses to buy any horse at an auction without counselling. As for Prim: So happy for all of you, including her former owner, that things worked out the way they did.
BTW your DIY background really saves you a fortune of horse health care and maintenance, so you can keep on in your rescue business. Thanks for thinking of others like this and being such a good example / role model for young 4H girls!
Definitely a diamond. Whether in the rough or not. She was definitely a find. I’m glad her former owner was helpful. As you said quite often they are not. I am glad you found her.
She is beautiful. I took a chance at a horse auction and came home with the sweetest, most beautiful and manageable Gypsy Vanner Stallion! Got him for a song!
I love the fact, you were able to connect with the previous owner. I am sure she was so relieved to know how her good friend was doing. She is a beautiful horse. She reminds me of Ayla's horse Whinney in Valley of Horses ( Earth's Children, book 2 by Jean M. Auel). Such a special character in her books and a wonderful companion.
Thank you for this video. Great work with Primrose! She is a keeper and doesn't hurt your eyes to look at either. Her previous owner must be happy that Prim got a home where she can grow up and be trained to her full potential. I can't see you ever selling her. You have a gift for picking one of a kind horses. Keep up the good work!
I love her! She is absolutely gorgeous and has the right amount of sass and good-mindedness. Her confirmation is outstanding. Well done! You have a good eye and an admirable program
She's the kind of horse I would be looking to buy because I need a horse that's well brought up and and you are giving that to this horse and all your horses. I want her! But my circumstances are not the best
Prim is so Pretty!!! She went through a pretty tough time thru the auctions that gash looked so sore and swollen. I'm so glad you took her home she needed you.
You won the jackpot!!!!! I could not believe the change that spring. She went from a dowdy, moth-eaten plug to a gorgeous, thousands of dollars looking mare. Unbelievable. I wouldn’t let her go. You were so right to buy her. You have done a marvelous job with her and should feel very good about the work you’ve done with her. Keep,it up!!!
Prim's transformation under your care is awesome! She is a real beauty and has an excellent disposition as well. I'm so happy you saved her! She's gonna be a great riding horse for you. ❤
She's what people are hoping for at an auction. Too bad great horses with no horror stories in their past are rare in the under 1,000 price range. Shes a gem.
Reminds me so much of my own mare, a dun Connemara x TB, who I found cowering at the back of a stall at our own local horse auction. She was a badly-handled 3yo, just a shade darker than Primrose in colour, with a white blaze and black legs. She was extremely pretty, but so nervy that when she went through the ring, nobody but the meat man was interested, so she went out unsold. I wasn't there to buy that day, but I ended up chasing after the seller and bought her on the spot for 400 pounds. Money well spent, because she grew up into an amazing horse, and it also turned out to be buy-one-get-one-free, because she was in foal, as I later discovered... Had her for 23 years until she passed away a couple of years ago, and I've still got the 'foal' who is now in her mid-twenties.
Love this story. Such a beautiful filly and thank you so much for saving her. That would have absolutely criminal for her to end up as a meat horse😢 Breaks my heart that other stars like her slip through the cracks and get slaughtered.
Prim was a terrible sight when you first bought her!! Now?? She has blossomed into the most beautiful looking horse I have seen in a long time!! You really did wonders with her!! You are so very "Clever "!! Thank You for everything that you did for Prim!! You bought a great looking equine!!❤😊❤😊!!
If I had the room, I would take a chance. I have a Belgian Malinois with a bite record from handler mismanagement and with diligence, boundaries and lots of training she's coming along really well.
I love Belgian Malinois! We used to do vet work for Working Dogs for Conservation. They had some nice Malinois. Really really cool what they do with the dogs! wd4c.org/
Maxine at 14 months old was untrained and highly reactive to everything in her environment, cars, people, cats, traffic cones, shadows that looked like a prey animal, etc., the reactivity was mainly from a lack of socialization during a puppy's formative period. She had a three-bite record with a dog fight, both were from two separate handler's ignorance. @@TheCleverCowgirl You should see her now!!! March 16th will be one year. I should have done a few before videos.
After using all the physical tests to determine horses you are interested in, your intuition has to a determining factor as well. Prim shows your ability is excellent. Such a beautiful horse, a beautiful story.
I feel like if I'd ever go to an auction, I would so sad over all the horses, I would have trouble to choose because of this...but auctions like this is not a thing in my country (not even my neighbouring countries), so it is really interesting to see what it is like. Prim turned out absolutely beautiful and her temperament is just so nice! She is lucky to have you and you are lucky to have found her :)) I could imagine the joy of the previous owner when she found out Prim is with you, I hope she sees this video!
She is absolutely gorgeous! Loving her soft and kind eyes. I get my horsey fix from watching your videos and similar. I am in admiration of all your hard work and knowledge. ❤
How lovely for the previous owner to know her horse was in a good home - she won’t be wondering or fretting about her now. You are the perfect person to bring this young horse on. I think you should keep her, a lovely reward for you both. ❤

I have a question. What does shipped to Canada mean? I am afraid to ask because I am sensing it would be their final journey.
@@petranassphotographyslaughter. They either go north to Canada or south to Mexico.
@@petranassphotography Shipped to Canada for slaughter. Luckily since I bought Prim the closest holding facility has closed down. Changes are finally happening that will make it less financially viable to profit from slaughtering America’s horses ❤️
Very nice filly great conformation❤

That was a very nasty neck wound, and what terrific jobs you each did- Primrose, you, and the vets -to heal it.
She is stunningly gorgeous

Perfect word choice --> A little love, a little patience, and the right care = Gorgeous!
Xxx
Siiiiiigh, I learned about Connemaras from Margeurite Henry's books.
Primrose is a real beauty! So so happy you took her home with you. All the horses have a story how they ended up at an auction. Have you ever thought about writing children's books? Horse stories with happy endings. 🐎❤️🐎❤️
I have thought about it!
@@TheCleverCowgirl I hope you do!
Prim is gorgeous! I can’t imagine the relief of the previous owner. Thank you, sweet lady. ❤❤❤
She is absolutely gorgeous. You are an amazing person, helping the horses to rise to their full potential. Much respect ❤
Wow, so happy for her, her previous owner and you. My hope is that she continues to be well cared for and loved.
Never thought I'd subscribe to a horse channel, but I love watching your rescue work. Thanks for sharing your videos on TH-cam.
Thank you so much!
Nope n Nope
She is such a beauty. I'm happy that Prim has had a pretty lucky life and glad that her previous owner knows she's in good hands.
Wow, Prim turned out gorgeous! You have a really good eye on judging horses. I’m glad you stepped up and bought her and gave her a good life.
I owned her from 5 months to 11 years on Santa Maria
I love her and would love to have her back. Registered AQHA name Chardonnay Sunrise😢
@@patriciajallen4488So sorry for the horse. Unfortunately she had no choice. 😢😢😢
I'm so glad you were there to rescue Prim!! You have such patience and consideration for the individual horse. She is blessed to have your care! ❤
She is beautiful, smart, calm and sweet. Who would not grab a young mare like Prim? She is a treasure, so well done, CC.
Prim is a beautiful horse thanks to your hard work & dedication. Easy to see that your Vet Tech experience is an asset.
The knowledge is wonderful, but I sure do miss the discount I used to get! 😁
Prim is Beautiful. I would keep her for ever. I just Love watching her.
Prim is a beautiful horse and you are a wonderful human. I'm so glad the world has people like you in it. You are a hero and role model.
She is a stunning buckskin - you've given her the best possible start on her new life. Way to go, Clever Cowgirl!
Your horses look astoundingly healthy and happy.
Incredible work you're doing!
God bless you and your horses! ❤💪❤
Thank you! I really appreciate that!
Such an absolute stunner.
Prim's transformation is yet another powerful testimony to the love and care you pour into all of your horses 💖 A joy to see!
Rescues come in all shapes and sizes, blessings and ❤
She is a really good looking horse. Thank God for people that can save these sweet creatures from unthinkable experiences
Wow she is lovely. Good feed and nourishment sure makes a big different. Letting her grow mentally and physically physically is so important
Good morning everyone! I'm looking forward to this video Clever Cowgirl! Primrose is gorgeous! 🥰🐎
♥ Prim is a real beauty! I love the way you love all your horses, CC! ♥ 🐎
I love her! She is absolutely gorgeous and has the right amount of sass and good-mindedness. Her confirmation is outstanding. Well done! You have a good eye and an admirable program
Thank you!❤️
She's the kind of horse I would be looking to buy because I need a horse that's well brought up and and you are giving that to this horse and all your horses. I want her! But my circumstances are not the best
8:57 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Prim is so Pretty!!! She went through a pretty tough time thru the auctions that gash looked so sore and swollen. I'm so glad you took her home she needed you.
You won the jackpot!!!!! I could not believe the change that spring. She went from a dowdy, moth-eaten plug to a gorgeous, thousands of dollars looking mare. Unbelievable. I wouldn’t let her go. You were so right to buy her. You have done a marvelous job with her and should feel very good about the work you’ve done with her. Keep,it up!!!
Prim is gorgeous ❤❤❤
Love, love, love this beautiful mare! And soooo glad you saved her!
Can't wait!
Prim's transformation under your care is awesome! She is a real beauty and has an excellent disposition as well. I'm so happy you saved her! She's gonna be a great riding horse for you. ❤
What a great story and such a beautiful mare!
She’s so beautiful. Glad you found her.
Congratulations. What a great story. All about knowledge, care, dedication and the potential you saw. So glad you rescued Primrose. She's a beauty,
She's what people are hoping for at an auction. Too bad great horses with no horror stories in their past are rare in the under 1,000 price range. Shes a gem.
Great, I love your vids and respect your horsemanship.
What a lovely girl and love the name! Such a score to get a youngster with a good disposition and breeding that really needs you!! She’s gorgeous!!❤
A horse like her in Canada would sell for over $5,000. You got a really good deal.
If she had gone through with her registration papers she would have been closer to $3000 for sure!
what incredible work you do and how patient you are. Glorious little mare.
I hope you have been able to keep the former owner updated on Prim as she obviously cared about this little beauty.
She's a beauty, thanks for saving her and sharing her story! ❤
@@TheCleverCowgirl
You should see her now!!! March 16th will be one year. I should have done a few before videos.
Such a beautiful looking horse. You have done a fantastic job with her.😊
Exciting!!
It is a bloody shame that a horse is only 400 dollars worth.
Well done, sweetie. You saved another precious life and discovered a first-class lady in the process. She is gorgeous!
Omg that bite 😮😮😮
You are a super hero! So glad to have met one of the "good" people in the world through your videos.
After using all the physical tests to determine horses you are interested in, your intuition has to a determining factor as well. Prim shows your ability is excellent. Such a beautiful horse, a beautiful story.
Love what you do! I have been breaking, training, and riding horses for 55 years, and so enjoy your attitude and dedication to these wonderful horses!
She's a beautiful mare! I'm glad you got to purchase her and she didn't ship to slaughter she has a great home
She is a beauty. The loving care you put into these horses is such a wonderful thing and to see them blossom and heal is such a blessing.
She's a beauty. You're guidance and patience ,is so inspiring. Xx❤
She is beautiful!
I would’ve jumped at the chance to get her. Great job and thank you for saving her life! God bless
She beautiful
