A small sporty SUV - but it's pretty pricey: 2023 VW T-Roc R-Line review

  • The 2023 Volkswagen T-Roc 140TSI R-Line is a small and sporty SUV. But the price tag may not be small enough for some buyers.
Especially if you choose this grade and add the optional extras that VW has for this test car - more than $8000, or 18 per cent of the original purchase price - worth of add-ons. They make the mid-spec T-Roc small SUV feel a lot nicer, but with an as-tested price approaching $55K, this isn't a cheap little crossover.
Helen Frost spent a week with the mid-range R-Line model, which replaces the mid-spec Sportline grade of the pre-facelift version. It's called R-Line because it looks a lot like the new flagship T-Roc R model - but doesn't have the same level of power, torque and performance as the top-spec. It is all-wheel drive, though.
It isn't going to be fit for all families - but as a car for a single parent or a smaller family of three, it could work. Especially if the driver appreciates a nice small SUV with a plush driving experience.

Nice review. Well all I can say is this car is overpriced anywhere in the world especially top spec. Here in South Africa it’s R700k plus or 45k USD which is madness. I will rather settle for a bakkie or UTE like a Ranger for the money demo or used

Dang in your country it is well overpriced i got mine brand new 2023 model, fully loaded for 30k USD so i thought it was good value, maybe not the best but i do love the design

I wonder do VW ever think about how over priced they actually are.

If they were THAT overpriced they wouldn't sell. Priced for the market, and you generally get what you pay for with VW. Nothing wrong with them.

This car is a scam. 53k for a car under 4.3m long? We are getting into CX-5 Akera territory here and that car puts Audis and BMWs to shame with its quality. Great review btw. Just not an 8/10.
