Tudor/Rolex should be ashamed for rejecting the restoration of this watch. You, however, did a great job and a great service to the owner. By the way, I too went to Vietnam for a tour and an extension (USMC.) Before leaving the country, I went to the PX to buy a watch that would be durable and waterproof. I was 20 years old and did not know crap about watches. I did see the Rolex's, but they were expensive, but not in hindsight. Instead, I bought a Zodiac Sea Wolf ($45 +/-) which I wore for at least 15 years before I threw it in a drawer. I had it serviced quite a while back and still wore it once in a while, but have since given it to my nephew who will make it part of a small collection that he has. I know he will care for it. Meanwhile, I'm now wearing a Rolex GMT Master II (16713) which likely cost 50 times what I could have bought it for in the late '60's I figured I deserved it.
But can you imagine how much this would cost for them to restore? They are rejecting these for a reason (cost, parts, staff experience). If I brought my rusty old 93 Ford ranger to ford for a repair and restoration and had an unlimited budget they'd tell me to go elsewhere... They aren't specialists in everything.
When the service center can’t/won’t fix it, send it to the professional hobbyist. Fantastic job Marshall. I absolutely love the way those vintage hands and indices look in contrast to that black dial. As someone who likes building/modding watches, I wonder what could be brushed onto new hands to achieve this look. I feel like coffee would be too brown.
Just a note about the Navy's UDT. They became the Navy Seals around 1964. In 1961 I was a Marine stationed at the Infantry training base on Camp Pendleton. I got to know one of the UDT guys who used our base for some training. They trained and acted like the Seals of today. One evening I walked past there Quonset Huts and saw them doin pushups. My buddy had broken his arm in training and was still doing one arm pushups. Tough guys
Oh my. I’m getting ready to send my 1984 Tudor Submariner 94010 in for service. This is such great timing. Thanks for the view into what’s about to happen to mine.
Wow, what an interesting and deeply moving history behind this watch!! I'm a huge fan of modern Tudor watches, but it breaks my heart that they wouldn't service this heirloom for Jason. Also, Jason's wife is a one-of-a-kind. Absolute a keeper!! Lucky for us we have this fantastic video and the story is going to be heard by thousands of watch enthusiasts around the world. How cool is that!!
This was a joy to watch, and im over the moon for Jason and family that they get to enjoy the beautiful watch and have his father memories so close. So fantastic.
What a coincidence, as I'm wearing my Tudor Sub as I watch this. The reason I picked it was due to your own 5513 restoration (kicking myself as I sold mine 🙄). Wish I could trust someone to service my Tudor Sub in the UK, with the love and attention to detail in your excellent videos...🫡
So glad to see this one "up" and running. There is something special (in my opinion) about a watch that has been on one man's wrist every single day for so many decades.
Wearing my BB pro right now I really do like Tudor solid watches , and as always a joy to watch your restoration of this lovely Tudor Sub. This really has a fantastic story a true tool watch.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!! What a great restoration! If I already didn't have fifteen (15) hobbies I would take this one up. You inspired me to find one of the US Army Watches from the 50s and 60s to honor my dad. Keep up the great work.
You Sir, are an absolute Master, at restoration, at accentuating the intrinsic appeal and functional properties of any timepiece, in this instance the Tudor, Submariner. This watch has travelled the World, a story worth telling. The accompanying narrative you provide, the level of respect you display for the piece, your deft touch, all combine to enhance the value of this beautiful watch. In a word, AWESOME. Well done, as always....Cheers, from Toronto, Canada.
I remember the Rosie watch and how amazing it was that you were able to suss out what was preventing the automatic winding mechanism from properly fiunctioning. In any event, although there was nothing fancy here, this well may have been my most favorite restoration that you've done, Marshall. Have a safe and filling Thanksgiving.
When trying to line up the pivots in the jewels, I have seen other watchmakers just lightly tap the movement holder a bit, until things fall into place. It seems to work well.
44:16 as my favorite shop teacher used to say: "I don't know what's wrong with it; I measured once, cut twice, and the darn thing still came out too short!"
I got hooked on your channel after watching your video about "vintage Elgin pocket watch". I just found one on that auction website circa 1920 that is a runner with all the information about the watch included. Now I just need to find someone like you based in the UK who I can send it to for servicing. Great videos as always!
GIVING THANKS! To all my watch technicians and enthusiasts. I finally found my "One and done" with the GMT hand replaced with gold. Without you, could've spent years looking and making it happen. We all need help when we're NOT the expert, shed some love onto them for being kind. Happy Thanksgiving.
I don't know how your friend will feel about the new strap vs a replacement bracelet, but to my personal taste, I prefer the look and feel of the leather strap 👍 Nicely done, it looks great
i’m so tired of hearing these high-end watch manufacturers refusing to fix their watches. Why would they want a watch this beautiful to go into disrepair is beyond me. What happened to customer service?
I understand where you’re coming from …but would General Motors or Mercedes fix a car that’s 65 years old and in poor condition? they wouldn’t, it becomes a point in time where few people know how to fix these things and require a special skill set.
@ completely different situation. Ford and Chevy manufacturer cars they dont repair them. I actually own 3 new car dealerships so your comparisons makes no sense sorry to ruin your gotcha moment. And yrs manufacturers still make parts for classic cars or they will endorse companies who do.
It's so amazing to watch you handle these tiny tiny tiny watch parts. I would need to wear magnifying glasses and I would need baby hands to handle the parts. so I just sit back and watch you.😆
According to the US inflation Calculator I used, the 124.00 in 1964 should be $1262.66 now.... yet the price on a comparable watch on Rolex's website is over 8000.00 USD.
30:05 "It can soften the shellac adhesive" It still amazes me that someone looked at all this bug goop hanging from a tree and was like "Yeah, this seems useful." or even "Yeah, that seems edible."
somehow, it is relaxing for the soul and mind to watch this. Focus on something and forget these disturbing times for a while, to be be creative and not only a consumer. Perhaps/Maybe the best version of your self???
I had my Dads Rolex overhauled...it was made in the 50's and I had it repaired locally by a Rolex Technician....he did warn me that he may not be able to get parts from Rolex, because they only hold them 40 years...after that they dont make them anymore...so the watch I had was older..but I was able to get what parts I needed..
I’ve always wondered how you would fix the stem if it broke inside the movement! I thought it would be some complex way to fix it. But it was a fairly simple process!
I get why a local jeweler may refuse to repair something as it just may not be worth their time and effort but for a company like ROLEX who are supposed to be customer focussed that makes no sense unless they are going down the route of APPLE. So glad Marshall was able to ride to the rescue. Hope the owner has many years of enjoyment wearing the watch.
Once again, you made it happen, you're a truly genius, my friend .Really Sincerely, i enjoyed your channel i mean it Happy Thanksgiving to you Brother, all way from st George Utah, peace...

Well deserved indeed! Cool story, thanks for sharing.

When you kept saying "crazy story" then mentioned "Vietnam" I could not get the Pulp Fiction story out of my head.
...and now, little man, the watch belongs to you.
Great, now I have to watch Pulp Fiction again 😂
Thankfully it was not a 44mm Panerai that he had in his "prison safe"
This channel is pure entertainment, this man is a genius at telling a story. Wonderfull!

That is an incredible origin story of the watch!
Definitely one of the best and most interesting episodes yet. Nicely done Marshall 👌🏻
Another AMAZING video! Thank you for bringing this hero's watch back to life. Shout out to the awesome wife as well.
This was a joy to watch, and im over the moon for Jason and family that they get to enjoy the beautiful watch and have his father memories so close. So fantastic.
Absolutely beautiful. Fantastic job!

As always, a brilliant video. Loved watching it. Keep up the great work
Great job! It was great to see it come back to life again.
what a beautiful story of this watch. i'm so happy you were able to do the watch justice. great job marshall.
Another hour of my time I'll never get back. And I enjoyed every minute!
Mike's wife is 100% a keeper. I am envious he was able to find such a wonderful life partner. I wish them nothing but the best in their life ^_^
I'm lucky its my day off to watch this! Btw, 7:15 this is an incredible story! Very cool! Luckily we have you Marshall! 💯❤️🙏
Sixty years old; worn every day and it is still that accurate. That is quality.
Wearing my BB pro right now I really do like Tudor solid watches , and as always a joy to watch your restoration of this lovely Tudor Sub. This really has a fantastic story a true tool watch.

Respect to the King of watchmaking videos!
Love how this turned out. Beautiful work.
Rolex: "Rejected! No way are we even going to attempt"
Marshall: "Hold my beer"
Result: BEAUTIFUL.
Awesome as Always Really love the History Thankyou for such a cool Vid
That was a great ride! I'm glad I came along.

Another great video Marshall and a fantastic story to go with it too !! Thanks for your time and for sharing 👌👍
an enjoyable hour watching your revival of such a great watch
Thanks Marshall! 😇 A follower since your first TH-cam episode from across the country (Naples FL).

Great job! What a nice watch with a nice story. It looks great!

Another brilliant video Marshall. Love your channel and your reverence for the history of your craft.
What a fabulous watch. It’s a pleasure to see your videos. Thank you.
Great video love seeing you fix vintage watches
Another amazing project. Well done
Good restoration of a fine timepiece

"I don't know what's wrong with it; I measured once, cut twice, and the darn thing still came out too short!"
Outstanding work Marshall. Love the content. Keep it coming!
My heart smiles when i see one of your new videos pop up Mashall, keep up the amazing work
Unbelievable that Rolex said no. You are fantastic 👍 well done from us here in Ireland.
Rolex rather has him buying a new Tudor.
Terrific work Marshall!

*whole crown and stem slide out*
"Ello! hows it going? hows the family? everythign good?"
That's a valuable Tudor, wow...nice! That last time graph was so satisfying! 0/301º/0.0 ????? Stellar!
Man that watch must have a few stories to tell!

Happy Thanksgiving.
I've been watching Marshall for over a year now, but I still feel a sense of panic when he takes the watch apart and its in bits on the desk 😯....
I have a Seiko one button chronograph I purchased when I was stationed in Thailand in 1967. I would love for Marshal to work his magic on it.
Really shows the build quality, when you put the watch back on the timegrapher after its service and clean. 2x👍
What a beautiful watch! Would love to get into this hobby but alas I just don't have the time. Great job as always Marshall!
I don't know how your friend will feel about the new strap vs a replacement bracelet, but to my personal taste, I prefer the look and feel of the leather strap 👍 Nicely done, it looks great
Watching from Scotland, Ahh Great! Cheers sir 👍
Nice work, Marshall: 👍👌👏!
Beautiful story.

Great job! BRAVO!
I use an old Levin brand movement holder. It's a circular style metal one. Fits most things. Right up there with an old Marshall and Co.
It's so amazing to watch you handle these tiny tiny tiny watch parts. I would need to wear magnifying glasses and I would need baby hands to handle the parts. so I just sit back and watch you.😆

Nice job!
I love these vid, just wish I didn't have the shakes all my life.
Found out painting 28mm models, with my dad.
Hi, passionate people always make the best videos. :)
Tudors are awesome!
Fantastic martial well done ,I think Rolex needs a stern letter sent?
I’ve always wondered how you would fix the stem if it broke inside the movement! I thought it would be some complex way to fix it. But it was a fairly simple process!
Big fan sir ! I love your content alot
Incredible.
6:05 Thanks for lifting the balance that way. I always wince when the balance is picked up and danging by the balance spring..

Lovely looking watch. I would wear it on a Nato or maybe even a Bund.
Beautiful
Once again, you made it happen, you're a truly genius, my friend .Really Sincerely, i enjoyed your channel i mean it Happy Thanksgiving to you Brother, all way from st George Utah, peace...
$124,- in 1964 is $1,231,- today. Given the prices of Tudors now, this was not a bad deal.
23:38 it's so easy to scratch up the surface
Cracking wristwatch
You are a magician!!
that's a nice watch! $200 for the crystal i never guess that price if you did not say! but worth it for a nice watch.
your content is awesome
We love a Tudor
Peak asmr right there 👏
Very cool
Great video! Would you ever consider showing us some of your personal watches? I think there would be interest.
Yeah I remember the Rosie watch...
0, 0, 301 that IS perfect.
incredible ❤
Around 1 hour later we will know this watch at all 🤩😥👌
I saw that scratch he put in
// This is a better tale than Pulp Fiction...
