We've got an SLS in our workshop at the moment with one of those leaks. Merc don't supply the seals for the internal oil pump drive shaft but we have managed to find a company that does make those seals. I can send you the details if you need them

In Germany we say that AMG is the abbreviation for "Adieu Mein Geld" wich means "bye bye my money"
But I know in Germany V8 AMGs always attract girls. I've seen many Memes about AMGs.
Basically with an E63s, S63, G63 or like AMG GTR, girls will come to you. 😂
As being a Mercedes tech I can say generally speaking the AMGs and higher end Mercedes are more reliable than the cheap C class, A class CLA, etc. Of course the parts/maintenance is more expensive, but the powertrain for the bigger engines is a lot more robust.

After recently doing a transmission service on an AMG GT with an identical transmission, I can confirm that having hydraulic fluid run down your arm is part of the job.
That’s a nasty smell and feeling.
I have examined the actual values of this statement, and my guided test results has shown the correctness to be very much within spec.
I just want to say thank you for all your hard work Tyler. I love every one of your videos and I’ve been subbed for over 3 years. Best wishes to your family.
My SLS transmission died at 30k miles with 2 months left on the warranty. Replaced under warranty, dealer said it would have been $27k out of pocket. Drove it another 2 months, then sold because I couldn’t stomach a $30k time-bomb that could go off at any time. Car club of Manhattan’s SLS was on its 6th or 7th transmission last time I checked,

The takeaway is flush every fluid you can on a car and you'll be amazed how much longer things last. "Lifetime fluids" were invented for dealer repair profits.

It's nice how the car wizard does these oil changes for your peace of mind and he did it so fast too... My mechanic loves to tell me that he changed the fluid recently even though I keep records and don't have anything about the transmission fluid on a bill...

I guessed $800 for the oil change and wizard responded......There's probably $400 worth of oils there.
You'd need Legit street cars level of specialized equipment and knowledge to make it relatively affordable.
Checking the hydraulic fluid level and hearing "all the way down to the armpit" reminded me of when my daughter was in grade 9 and taking autoshop. She helped me do a service on my car and was more than happy to go elbow deep under the hood. While I was doing one job she was draining the oil and began to take off the oil filter. As she unscrewed it, warm oil began running down her arm and I heard her exclaim "yuck...it's running down my arm into my armpit" but she didn't let that phase her. As we were cleaning up she asked me with a big smile "Dad, do they make a deodorant that is specifically made to cover up the smell of gas and oil?" I had a newfound love and respect for her from that moment on..
How old is she and is she available? Any woman who can endure the stink of modern trans fluid is a keeper.

@@herrbrahms She is 22, just out of university and in the navy. I could not be more proud of her and have complete confidence in her. It's actually a great relief knowing I honestly do not have to worry about her at all.

Yes the old Case tractor in the background! My father was a Case dealer when I was young so I remember the 30's series. It was exciting when the 70's series came out. My dad did set up a 1175 for a tractor pull event.

I have a friend with one of these, and it currently has almost 65k miles. The trans has been serviced yearly with its annual oil change. Still no transmission issues.

I used to repair VCRs back in the day. Worked in a shop doing them. VCR Head Cleaners, do not work. They can actually break the 'flying heads' on the rotating drum. There are grooves in the drum that need to be cleaned out for proper tracking (like the treads of a tire). If they are full of tape oxides, the drum acts like a 'racing slick' on a wet road.

I remember in shop class in the 70's my teacher used to work for Mazda as an engineer. He showed us videos where car makers would test a new engine by putting it on the dyno and cycle through idle to full throttle for a month straight.
Now? Slap it together and throw it in the car and hope for the best.....

I used to perform destructive fatigue tests on leaf springs, with a servo-controlled hydraulic ram. The hydraulics did not leak badly enough to warrant replacing the seals, so the machine would have a sheen of hydraulic oil. Before breaking, there would be a significant amount of metal filings as the spring leaves rubbed against each other. The combination of metal filings and hydraulic oil made my hands "Lady Macbeth" filthy.

My dad did have a 2000 ML55 AMG, that car had many issues, the air conditioning was broken for more than 5 years until it was fixed. He ended up selling it on Craigslist with about 107,000 miles, I thought. He currently has a 2015 Chevy Tahoe LT as of May 2019.

It’s a Getrag transaxle used in Ferrari’s eg: 458, 488, California. Mercedes doesn’t do repairs but Ferrari guys can. Only thing that failed on the early SLS Transaxle is the temperature sensors anyhow.

It is a good idea to measure the quantity of Fluid drained from Trans and differential. So can put back in same exact amount. Then double check with inspection hole.
