How cool that you have watched it, what an honor 😁🙏 I hope that my comments on the BS didn’t upset you 😉 The gorgeous color on yours makes things much better for me! 👊🤩
Simply outstanding! We just acquired our own SLS AMG GT Final Edition Roadster and absolutely love it! Now the hunt for the Final Edition coupe/Gullwing begins…
I own the 2013 SL 550 , why don’t these models get the attention they deserve? It’s a beautiful car, very powerful, very well made....if you tune the ECU you get 545hp/714trq it truly is a dream machine. Loved you video😉👍
Thank you for this thoroughly researched documentary! It considered all aspects of the SLS, although I need to add the fact that the M159 is still used in its newer GT3 variant, proving again the astounding durability of this engine.
Thank you, polished presentation 👍amazing cars. I serviced 300SL's and 300SEL 6.3 as a Star Technician when I first started my career at a MB Dealership. Amazing performance from a tube chassis, single cam shaft, drum brakes. And the then sophisticated air suspension, fuel injection, brute of the 6.3. I feel I know this SLS family because I spent so much of my life with the grand parents. Engineered like no in other car - Mercedes-Benz 🏆🏁✌️🇺🇲
You harp on about how iconic the gullwing doors are, and of course they are, but you fail to mention that the original 300SL ROADSTER is a much improved and far superior car to the coupe; It had more power and handled significantly better. I'd take a roadster for it's sleeker looks and to hear the engine. I don't particularly like the mandatory alcantara, black gloss, and red accents in the gt interior. Oh and it makes little sense to compare the softer 812SF to the hardened SLS Black Series, it would make sense to compare it to the track variant (Copetizione or F12TDF). I've seen a video of a regular F12 lapping the Nurburgring in 7:08.
This is by far my favorite video I've watched about the SLS. 3 years later and still thank you for this incredible deep dive!!!! By far and away my favorite car under the sun.
All of your videos are well researched, fun to watch and highly educating. This one is no exception. I knew that the SLS is one of the most beautiful cars ever built. But now I also know how it was built everything that went into it. I also found out about the special editions beside the electric version and the Black Series, I didn't know about those before. On the topic of black series, I'm sad that you don't like the look and while I disagree with your opinion, I understand what you mean saying it looks like a toy. But I think quite a few of the GT3s features would not be appreciated by our friends at the TÜV so adopting the look of that car was probably not an option. Anyway, I'm happy to hear that you got to experience this beautiful car first hand, I wish I could too someday.
Thank you very much, great that you enjoyed the video! Also appreciate your feedback on the Black Series “controversy”. I knew I’m pretty alone on that point 😁
Best video I have ever seen on the SLS! From visiting Affalterbach in 2010 to having one in the family since 2015 I’m a huge fan of this car, and seeing this in my feed made my day!
Fantastic video and insight, this is still my dream modern mercedes-amg (besides the sl73 haha). Hope you continue doing this series and drop one about the amg:one (?) if it ever gets released
Thank you so much man, your stories always have some special charm to it. your calmness and your voice is great and remind me of henry of Carfection. thank you
Thank you for actually using the terms rear-mid engine and front-mid engine instead of erroneously just saying mid engine and front engine like so many others do
yeey new video from gullwingman ! very happy to see you are back and not to mention the bomber video like damn boi that was a really well made high quality video and only 30 views ?! keep up the videos so that thy mighty algorithm might choose your video to be spammed across the interwebs ; )
even in modern motorsports 2019-2020 the GT3 competition models still were using the M159 motors, even though the newer AMG GT's sported a more modern 4L bi-turbo V8's, M159's were more reliable and suited for track use. Says a lot about the original M156 motor design...
Kudos to you for presenting such an informative, entertaining, and beautifully produced video that mirrors the quality of your subject, the fabled SLS. This is easily one of the top three car videos I've seen on TH-cam, and I've seen a lot of car videos.
If they just would have brought the C112 a midengine v12 with gullwing doors and minimalist design ?? This would have been a legendary car. This so sad. I love the 300 SL gullwing. And I love Mercedes V12s. Who is responsible for not greenlighting this car, Mercedes could have done something truly special.
@@Gullwingman No need to apologise, it's all part of my job. 😉 I edit and write for a diecast model magazine in the UK, with a particular penchant for vehicles out of Stuttgart (both big names). 😉 Thanks again for your awesome work!
Yet another exquisit video from a true conoisseur. Don't share your taste though - I would have a normal Roadster in black with a red top. Not only find the marketing-driven gullwing doors too much, am too selfish to let others have 90% of the soundtrack. As a poor person though, am saving for an R171 SLK 55 instead...
How did Mercedes get the SLS AMG Black Series M159 engine to rev to 8,000 rpm - isn’t it a cross-plane V8?? And a big 6.2 Liter engine at that (easier to get a smaller engine to rev higher than a larger engine).

I really look forward to it. th-cam.com/video/aDzAiNYeeKs/w-d-xo.html I am expecting it to sound like my old Edition 507 C63 wrapped up in that amazing body. Thoroughly enjoyed this run through the story of the SLS AMG! Thank you for sharing in so much detail

Look who's missing driving his own SLS
The SLS looks so elegant
Simply outstanding! We just acquired our own SLS AMG GT Final Edition Roadster and absolutely love it! Now the hunt for the Final Edition coupe/Gullwing begins…
In my opinion this is the most perfect reinterpretation of a classic in car history
Mercedes to me was honestly at the top of it's game by the late 2000's and early 2010's, I still remember being 6 and hearing so much about the SLS
Dream car is the SLS. As soon as Shmee posted this I had to watch it.
My favorite car of all time ❤️
Thanks for putting this together, as an SLS owner its so good to hear someone put this story in one place.
Fantastic! Enjoy your car every minute 👏🤩
Hi James, nice to see you here!
You are so underrated. Never stop doing these amazing videos.
Thank you very much! 😁
Finally a new video! Glad to see you're back.
This channel is very underrated.
IIRC.. the 7 speed gearbox in Ferrari 488 is very similar to the 458.. and also Getrag
The SLS AMG, is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful cars ever designed and produced. An instant modern classic!
I love the SLS I’d like to have one someday in my garage.

Fantastic video, one of the most superb cars to be created in my opinion. Thank you for all this effort and going into such great detail.
I think you misspoke @9:54 when you said 300SL. I think you meant to say half a century.
Honestly the sls black series is my dream car

AMG GT
If im correct, the sls electric drive is the first ever electric supercar?
I think Porsche had a hybrid 911 around that time but I can’t remember. It was for sure the first completely electric super car.

I don't like the ''Black Series'', also. )-: In my opinion that huge permanent back spoiler is too ugly and creates drag on high speed. )-:
Bmw has nothing on mercedes
My only gribe I can think of... can you pay to have that obtrusive fuel-lid painted over with the same color as the chassis? AMG Le Mans Rot.
