I was in this situation a few months ago. Having gone through every chair under the sun: Ikea > Padded Office Chair > Racing Chair > Mid-tier Ergonomic Chair. The Aeron was my last stop because I needed a chair with the best forward-tilt functionality on the market (which is what my lower back needed from the start!) Nevertheless the decision to buy a new remastered made the most sense to me: the improvements across the board in terms of technology and design make a world of difference as does the taut mesh - something you don't often get with a second hand Aeron because wear and tear has given the mesh more slack, which affects your overall comfort and performance in the chair.

I have the remastered and the classic, I am absolutely in love with the remastered not so much with the classic. Being a bigger person with not too much meat at the rear end the classic actually hurts my butt after 2 hours of sitting while the remastered is comfortable for the whole day. Thanks for all of the chair info. Your previous videos have all been very useful as reminders of what I want and don't want in a chair, and it steered me back to getting another Aeron.
I saved $300 on my remastered by going to a local Herman Miller authorized dealer. The only downside is there's no 30-day return, but I had a Classic from 2000-2010, and I demoed the chair at their office, so I know what I'm getting into.
If you're not comfortable with the risk, buy direct from HM and pay the extra $300.
Another upside of going to a local dealer is also the ability to test drive chair fit and chair size. I'm on the borderline between B and C, and after sitting in both, I jumped at the C. I could also try out other Herman Miller chairs they had there, but the Aeron remastered really stood out to me as a task chair that also has good seat air flow. I'm kind of done with leather and memory foam. The seats get too hot for my comfort, and I hate it when my chair gets in the way of me getting things done.

I wanted to buy used but they didn't have any in my area so I bought a new remastered C when they went on sale a few months ago. My first impressions was mixed, quality is still on point, but it dug into the back of my legs. I eventually realised this was because the built in desk is way too high so i used a bunch of knee pads as a foot riser and it fixed this. Since then comfort has been amazing
I have noticed a rattle where rear of the lower seats connects to the tilt mechanisms. But seems to just be part of the design.
I do wish it had a seat lock back as I use it at home and not the office so more of a mixed use case.

@@StardustLegacyFighter i have a remastered aeron, i use it in my homeoffice, and i have it for almost a year, and it already shows some marks in the plastic here and there.
Its marked on the base (where sometimes you bump it against furniture) and in the backrest, where you rest your back, right where the lower back ends and the mid back starts, on the vertices, wich is the part that gets closer to the table. I used to lower the armrests and tuck it in under the desk and right at that point its where it bumps onto the desk and the plastic there got whitish. Nothing major just some color change, so i stoped doing that and let the armrests level with the desk.
I don't like the polished parts, i think it cheapens the look a lot, thats cause of the widespread use of polished metal parts on cheap chinese chairs, unfortunately.
And I'm really careful with the chair, i try really hard to not bump it, and i dont rest my feet on the base. The plastic seems to be really prone to losing its color when it chafes against other materials the kind of "damage" that goes away when you rub some oily product.
I love the chair, but the plastic on my cheap chinese one is less prone to those kind of damages and i don't babysit it like i do my aeron.

Also, please know I have had mine for 16 years, the old version, and there is not a single chip or scratch on the aluminum base. It's a profit grab. The old version is an absolute steal at $300. Just add silicone wheels, the old and new wheels are terrible, relatively speaking. If you have the resources, the new chair is better, but not 6x better.

Because that is the higher end, polished aluminum base. They have always charged more for this upgrade, even when the painted aluminum base was standard. It is a cosmetic upgrade only. It does not give you any more strength, durability, better warranty, nothing. It is purely cosmetic. The plastic base offers the same strength needed as the old base but removed the potential for paint chipping. This may not happen for everyone, as in your case, but we have seen hundreds of Aerons come through our refurbishing department with paint chipped off the base. It doesn't look great. -Ryan

Gaming chairs are a gimmick. I say this as I sit at my PC typing this comment while sitting in a Vertagear gaming chair 🤣. I loved it at first, but after having it for 3-4 years, it's showing its age and why people don't recommend gaming chairs. Don't fall for the marketing hype like I did.
In my case with the Vertagear SL2000, after about 3-4 years, the seat pan foam is hard AF, there's no real lumbar support (as compared to a true ergonomic office chair), the arm rests are hard plastic with little-to-no adjustment, and the headrest "pillow" (in quotes because I use the term pillow very loosely in this case) is hard and not in the exact right position for me and my body type/size.
The only reason I still have it is because I can't make up my mind on which true ergonomic office chair I want, lmao.
