This is the BEST review for the Aeron all around the Universe. A truly professional, but not all those social media youngsters wanna be. Well done, pal! 👍
My classic size c is 21 years old and still looks as if it was only lightly used. It's incredible how it's stood the test of time. It's the best and most comfortable chair I've ever owned, period. No gaming chair or office ergonomic chair I've owned before it can even hold a candle to it.
The Classic is an amazing chair. We are surprised how well the mesh even holds up, just really needing to be cleaned. The Steelcase Leap chairs hold up very well too, but most of the time will need the upholstery to be replaced. -GK
This is a very thorough, clear and concise comparison. It's great! It helped me understand the difference between the Aeron my relative has (2013) and the one I was being sold this year. Just received my Aeron Remastered today! Thank you BTOD
This is an INCREDIBLY well made video...thorough, concise and detailed with great side-by-side examples, clearly showing the difference and the pros and cons. Kudos. Well done
I sat in an aeron classic, gesture and leap V2 and the aeron was the most immediately comfortable chair for me by far. that's just me though. I would strongly recommend going to high end pre-owned chair outlets and seeing if you can sit in these chairs before investing in one. what really makes the aeron stand out for me is the mesh cushion. it is so light and breathable. and when I stood up after sitting in the aeron my back literally felt better than before sitting in it. that is the best possible result for a chair - feeling better after sitting in it than before. but you will pay a premium.
My classic is about 22 years old and working great. I did have to put in an aftermarket hydro lift and wheels but the chair itself is solid. The review is excellent. I will consider getting the remastered version for my other room.
Fantastic info and beautifully presented. My wife and I are considering purchasing 2 of these for our home office. She's 5' 3" and around 115 lbs - I'm 6' and about 170 lbs (77 kg). Ideally we'd buy identical - size B chairs. Fingers crossed we won't regret not purchasing a size B and A. In any case - many thanks for your excellent review and cheers from Sydney, Aust - Dave
@@Pens4Life85 I believe the differences are mostly (or only) in the size of the seat itself? At least this was the distinction when I bought my Classic like 5 years ago.
Was so confused when you were talking about the rocking differences. You kept saying "put my backrest on the back" but I think you meant "put my back on the backrest". Great great video though! So thorough and detailed. Thank you!
I fall more into the B size category, but I found the C size helped a lot with easing the frame pressure on the thighs. B is a much tighter fit overall and probably better for shorter sessions, but I find C just perfect for heavy use(12h+). When I first saw the Aeron I never thought I'd actually buy one but it truly is a great chair, especially when combined with an Atlas headrest. Anyway thanks for the great videos BTOD 👍 A great production overall, but I want to give a quick shout-out to Ryan, I think he does a terrific presenter job. Your resources helped me settle on a used classic C-size Aeron as a starter. Should serve me a few more years. If HM releases a Cosm with at least a tilt-lock function, I may be interested in an upgrade 😁
@@Pens4Life85 There are many comparison charts out there with actual numbers (e.g on the BTOD Aeron review blog post), but C is a bit wider which allows different seating positions without feeling too much pressure from the frame. More space in all directions from the C size provides more flexibility, like for example when putting a thin blanket on the seat (as mesh will not provide the warmest seating experience). The same blanket on a B size would be even tighter and sacrifice comfort. I'm using the classic Aeron for over a year, 12+ hours a day now and am still as satisfied as I was on the first day. It's all personal preference though, so I recommend testing the chairs side-by-side to feel the difference. Had I bought one without testing, I would have probably gotten the B and would never have considered the C as no guide put me into that category.
I have a classic. I like to work sitting in the forward tilt position. The comparison of the upright position is spot on in the difference between the two versions. I could not for the life of me understand why people said this chair is the best. I always had upper back pain because of the upper back support. You're the only one that talked about this and noticed it. I was complaining to my wife what a stupid chair and design because of it. I wasted so much time adjusting this chair to make it work for me. For you forward-tilt working folks out there. Remastered is the one that will work for you. I’m glad they addressed this with the remastered version. Great comparison buddy!
I know chair size is the biggest question people have as it can be a struggle to find a HM dealer to test out before purchasing. I am 6' and approx 175lbs and am not a "big" guy whatsoever, more on the lanky side of the spectrum. The size C chair fits me great. Based on the size chart from HM I fall more on the B size than C but I've tested both sizes out and the C is a much better fit. I still recommend you go and test out a chair before purchasing, but if you can't and you fall in between the B and C size, the size C MIGHT be the better option.
@@btodtv I will note that I do have fairly long legs and may contribute to why the size C chair fits me best. I have used the size B chair at my work and found that the side edges on the seat were digging into the sides of my legs. Again, please try to find a HM retailer to test out before purchasing. Everyone's bodies are different and what works for one person can be different for someone else. Great content BTOD!! Very informative and excellent demonstrations of how these chairs operate.
I've had my Aeron for ~ 20 years now and have replaced almost every part in it over time from standard wear and tear. I wanted to offer a little insight into why I think the foam may have been removed from the front. About every 7-8 years I have to replace the seat pan because that foam breaks down and starts disintegrating making a constant mess falling on the floor, and it no longer performs its job. It looks like the redesign more than corrects this issue. I wonder if I can bolt the new pan onto the old frame, franken-chair, best of both worlds.... We shall see.
Fantastic comparison, very complete. I have both, replaced my classic with the remastered after 15 years of all day every day use. I was initially disappointed with the more limited tilt lock. With the slight tilt forward standard position, the much more responsive tension adjustment, and the new pivot, I find it no problem to stay at any tilt I want. We still use the classic in other rooms, but for long hours working at the computer, the remastered is a huge improvement.
What do you think about the remastered mesh vs the classic? I've heard some people complain that the remastered isn't as comfortable and my guess is that this could be attributed to the mesh on classics being more broken in. But I'd be curious to hear what you have to say since you've had experience with both?
@@EldritchAugur Hard to say since as I said the seat mesh is pretty stretched out on the classic and has been for a few years. Going from memory, the new mesh probably feels a little more firm. Still comfortable long term. All the other improvements combined certainly far outweigh the differences in the mesh even if you preferred a bit more give.
there is no difference in the seat pan, back or design as far as "comfort" goes. the old chair vs the new chair sits the same. the main difference in the remastered version is; the pellicle mesh is a tighter weave. they claim it will reduce the mesh from shaving your clothes off. yes they did that. also to note, the chair is much more plastic and metal components were removed/swapped for plastic. the lumbar was changed slightly, the arms changed slightly. the price changed greatly. i repair these and buy them and work for a herman miller dealer.
There is certainly a difference in comfort due to the design change in the seat. The remastered did away with the front seat pad which many people find to be uncomfortable. They changed the angle at which the seat sits so that the remastered is easier to use in forward positions and they also changed the tilt to allow you to sit upright and not at a forced recline like the Classic. -RB
The 3 position tilt lock is almost a breaker for me. I really liked the customization of the classic. I wish I could tell if I'd like where the predetermined locks sit.
@@rafaelclp in the meantime I found an old classic that I replaced the arm rests and got a headrest. I'm loving it. The seat may be getting a little loose but I'm not touching the piston yet. Going to hold out as long as I can on that. Overall I'm under $500 so not too bad and it's been very comfortable.
Great video! I have a remastered one and love it! I recently just bought a classic for home use and it's not going to work for me. As stated in the video, the remastered has that pitch forward that makes a huge difference. The overall chair just feels so much more comfortable.
I agree on most stuff you talked about. But it needs to be included that you can't cross a leg which a lot of people do. Reason is the hard plastic on the side of your thighs wont allow it
@@coldblackice on both. I like to prop my foot on my other leg, but very hard to do with the plastic sides of the seat. They are made that way to keep your legs pointing straight
Thank you - very thorough review - except for the one reason I watched: Forward tilt comparison. It's not just sitting upright as on the classic, there is a forward tilt lock which is why I bought the classic version. I am actually having a hard time finding a chair with forward tilt.
I have a Classic and a Remastered, actually, and I prefer the approach of the Classic with reclining. For background, I keep my Classic at the desk with my desktop where I spend most of my time, work, play games, video call, watch all my shows, and use all of it's many of the chairs features on daily basis, and the Remastered at the office desk where I tend to go with a laptop to eliminate distractions when I need to focus on writing something for work, where I keep the chair in the forward locked position (which is way better on that one, you're right about the cushion thing). You probably can see it coming, but not having the infinite lock really is a deal breaker for a chair I do that much stuff in. It's not just that either, this is probably more surprising, but I prefer the unbalanced lean. I don't think it was a design accident. If I'm letting it recline, why shouldn't it? Since I can lock it in any position, it reclines me, and it reclines to where I want it. Working the controls of this chair are like second nature to me now, too. Just balancing in place in a specific reclined position, it's fine, but it makes me feel restless. I need to feel more secure than that, for me it's more comfortable to be sitting on restricted (but not really, you can just turn them off and on again to readjust), locked, chair. The more I type it the more it sounds very particular to me, but, well I know lots of people like to tuck the blankets under their legs, right? It's similar to that. Preferring to have a physical limitation over freedom of movement gives more comfort sometimes. I'm a pretty restless guy, I got ADD too. One last thing though. I understand that the balanced/unbalanced lean is probably pretty subjective, but one thing I don't understand and seems like a pretty unambiguous downgrade is the locking positions. I think they thought because they have the balanced lean they don't need it, but I disagree. Who cares if it's an extra cost. It's a flagship chair.
Heh. Yeah. That crease up front is a leg number. I use a throw blanket on my seat which solved it. Also saves my pants from pellicle abrasion since I shift around a lot. Definitely prefer the floaty / locked feel of the classic especially when reading or simply relaxing. The new one feels more like a regular chair and doesn't feel like a cross between a task chair and a comfort chair like the classic does.
Thank you so much for the in depth comparison! Your video was incredibly helpful! I have been working on getting a long term home office setup and have chronic back pain, so all of the information you provide was very insightful
At first I thought that BTOD had responded to the wrong comment. Then I realized that the color of the gaming Aeron literally is the ONLY difference lol
The Classic is generally best IMO. Better adjustment options… better lumbar support options… everything else is roughly the same… however it does take a lot of effort to adjust the tension on the classic but that also speaks to how adjustable it actually is.
The Classics tension isn’t more difficult to adjust because it is more adjustable. It is just an inferior system to the remastered, which is why it is more difficult to use. The remastered does the same task much more efficiently. -RB
Not being able to adjust the arms depth is a deal breaker for me, i can't stand those forward armrests of the classic. Can't get close to desk if the armrests are level with the table.
Had the original for 12 years and it was still perfect. Bought the remastered one in 2017 and it's not holding up anywhere near as well, with the mesh disintegrating and needing replacement already.
I found an Aeron size C classic today for $500 on marketplace, in good condition - super stoked! I think it will do just fine, as the remastered is going for over twice the same price on the secondary market. & if it doesn't work out, can sell it for what I got it for :)
i bought a used 10yr old Aeron 2 yr back, now still in good condition. My best investment for a chair. My previous chair was a DXracer, last only over a year & it started to peel badly & the left armrest came loose, couldnt lock into height. Threw it away.
I am about to buy an aeron remastered, but i can only get it with fixed Posture fit. What is the main difference of the fixed posturefit vs posturefit SL and is it still worth it?
Excellent Video !! I just recived my new Aeron Classic in Size C (which has been professionally restored by an official HM Dealer) and funny they put on the new Armrests of the Remastered (love the Pads). So I have a kind of Hybrid now :-D.....Even being 1.79m tall and around 90kg the size C was important to me - I have tried a Mirra 2 last winter and felt kind of "packed" and felt the frame on the sides with my legs when not sitting dead straight... after some homework I saw that the Mirra 2's size of the sitting area is near the Aeron B so I was after a Classic in C - and you are right - you can feel the area where the Pad support for the legs starts a bit but by now I don't feel disturbed by that :)
Yes, it is actually easier to rock in the forward tilt position. When in the standard position it kinda wants to stay there. Leaning back takes no effort, unlike the classic sitting up straight also takes no effort.
not sure if I missed it or if it wasn't talked about, but are the replacement parts interchangeable and could I convert a classic into a remastered? I have a classic and the seat frame needs to be replaced because the screw socket has been stripped out of the plastic frame. and may also want to upgrade the mechanism as well
For those that have Aeron Classic, when you sit do you feel that you slip with the different fabric of your pants, shorts? this is a very big issue for me using this chair for home office.
GREAT VIDEO! Do you think the remastered posturefit is better than the lumbar strap? Mostly i plan to stay in an upright/ slightly leaning forward position while gaming. I just ordered the posture fit version but now im worried the up and down lumbar strap might have been a better choice for me as i have kind of an S shaped indention on my spine and im thinking the lumbar strap would have been better to put there? Can the posture fit be adjusted to do the same thing as the lumbar strap?
Would y’all please consider a “best mesh bottom” category? I’d like to find something that doesn’t hurt the legs and will last long without sagging but the aeron is considerably out of my budget
Incredible review. I just ordered a chair, I don't know if it was remastered or classic, I'm assuming it was the remastered. I hope it was the remastered because I prefer a more upright sitting. Great review thanks!!
We've made attempts in the studio to remove the arms on the remastered without ultimately breaking the system. Not great luck so far. We need to send it back to the refurb department and have them take a look -GK
BTOD.com not to be a cynic, but by redesigning in this way, it may allow HM to phase out replacement parts for the classic and impact the secondary market - resulting in more people to buy new.
Can anyone tell me ... I have a classic, bought used, but it doesnt have a recline locking mechanism, which I find strange. I have just one toggle for the height, that's it. Did they make a version that never locks? Or is this something I should try to replace.
Does the change in pivot point change how the chair feels when leaning back? As in, does the remastered feel like it wants to raise your feet up off the floor more than the classic, or are they both exactly the same?
The mesh on the remastered Aeron feels much stiffer and harder than the classic because it's almost wire-like. It took me over a year to get used to it. The mesh on the classic feels more plush as each threading is wider and feels more fabric-like.
I have a Remastered version and agree with you on that the mesh is harder than on the Classic one which I also had. After a year what is your opinion? Does the mesh got loosen a bit? thanks
@@nagychriss The thigh area in the front is still stiff but the center of it feels more cushy now after a year of sitting. Either that or I've gotten used to the firmness of it.
I want a chair that I can sit in for 8 hours a day, and has a head rest. I've been looking for used leather executive chairs that lawyers and judges use, those really nice ones with the chesterfield leather pattern. But now I am considering a Herman Miller re-mastered from your videos comparing it to Steecase. I thought Steelcase was going to be the most comfortable but your video changed my mind when compared. What do you recommend? And what is the best chair ever?
keep in mind there is a really good aftermarket headrest for aerons. I believe it's called the Atlas headrest. it's 180 dollars but great quality from what I've heard. They released a new one for the remastered aerons.
Best is to go to place where you can try all or some of the different types. Have you an office surplus warehouse near you? Might pick up a deal just as good as eBay, Gumtree craigslist. As you are try out all the functions first before buying rather seeing just pictures.
@@Loppy2u Good points. I want a pre-owned Remastered Aeron HM but will prob go to office supply rather than individual buyers on Craigslist. Want to ensure not a fake HM + that technicians know what they’re doing when preparing used ones for sale. Will see if there are any genuine”HM certified technicians”What do you think?
It depends on which mechanism you go with. If you get the upgraded mechanism, then it will feature tilt limiter and forward seat tilt. This option is available on both the Classic and Remastered. -RB
Hi, great video. If the arm rests have the lever-lock does that guarantee it's the remastered? I'm looking at used chairs for sale and it's hard to tell. thx
nedderfu watch at 11:36 it talks about the armrest. The answer to your question is no. If the arm rest has the lever lock it doesn’t guarantee it’s a remastered. Since they had these from 2004 and the remaster are from 2016.
Just look at the shape of the big black box under the seat that houses all the various mechanical controls. The new model is much longer and flatter, thats what I go by.

Glad we could help! Thanks for watching Gabriel! - TK
He put more effort into this comparison than I've ever put into anything
Brilliant review!
What’s the difference between office aeron and gaming aeron?
Thanks!
The gaming Aeron is all black. -RB
At first I thought that BTOD had responded to the wrong comment. Then I realized that the color of the gaming Aeron literally is the ONLY difference lol
Exactly what I needed to know to make my purchase. Loving this content and this company. Placing my order now.
Thanks for the review! you guys are really providing value here.
Thank you! -GK
very comprehensive and in detail review, thanks.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching! -GK
Thank you, this video was very helpful, I bought a Remastered las week and really learned a lot.
for the classic chair couldnt you just LOCK the tilt if you REALLY need the upwards tight work position?
Can I purchase the new version of the back lumbar to be used with a classic Aeron model?
Wow, thank you for all the information, very helpful to potential buyers. Greatly appreciated
Had the original for 12 years and it was still perfect. Bought the remastered one in 2017 and it's not holding up anywhere near as well, with the mesh disintegrating and needing replacement already.
Thank you so much for this video. A lot of details. Very useful. 👍
Wow. Excellent job. Right to the point. The review matches the quality of the chairs!
Can the chair rock in the forward tilt position? I like the forward tilt but I want to be able to rock as well.
I have a classic and the seat frame needs to be replaced because the screw socket has been stripped out of the plastic frame. and may also want to upgrade the mechanism as well
Great review. Any idea why HM decided to do away with the infinite tilt lock on the remastered version?
Thanks! Love. your informative tutorials!
I watched the video two times, very detailed comparison of the two. Thank you.
Thanks for watching, twice! -TK
Crazy amazing review!!! Thank you
Glad you liked it! -GK
i'm 6' 4" 220, with long legs what would you recommend in a chair with a longer seatpad & higher back thanks.
Can you use these removable mesh-seats from remastered into classic one? I want that mesh as more air ventilation is there.
This was a fantastically detailed and comprehensive review
Hey Ryan, can I put the new posture-fit back support on a classic Aeron?
Thanks for this. I'm guessing both are still really nice chairs?
For those that have Aeron Classic, when you sit do you feel that you slip with the different fabric of your pants, shorts? this is a very big issue for me using this chair for home office.
Is there big difference between the 1 or 2 ( sacral and lumbar) support ?
How high is the seat from the ground when the remastered is in it's lowest position?
Incredible review. I just ordered a chair, I don't know if it was remastered or classic, I'm assuming it was the remastered. I hope it was the remastered because I prefer a more upright sitting. Great review thanks!!
Thanks for the video, great help just ordered mine.
Nice! Thanks for watching! Did you get a Classic you get a Classic or a Remastered? -TK
Is it possible to swap the depth-adjustable arms of the Remastered and put it on a Classic?
We've made attempts in the studio to remove the arms on the remastered without ultimately breaking the system. Not great luck so far. We need to send it back to the refurb department and have them take a look -GK
BTOD.com not to be a cynic, but by redesigning in this way, it may allow HM to phase out replacement parts for the classic and impact the secondary market - resulting in more people to buy new.
is there a service to install a tilt forward/backward limiter on a used remastered aeron?
you could buy it separately
Does the polished aluminium get scratched 🧐??
yeah it keeps costs down to use plastic. that's why the remastered version is more expensive, lmao.
Yeah, inflation sucks... Can't expect them to keep prices the same after +20 yrs.
Can anyone tell me ... I have a classic, bought used, but it doesnt have a recline locking mechanism, which I find strange. I have just one toggle for the height, that's it. Did they make a version that never locks? Or is this something I should try to replace.
Great stuff! How does the arm width on size b compare between classic and remastered?
Great review! What do you think of the Atlas Headrest attachment for the Aeron? Necessary? Worth it? Why has HM just done this themselves?
Does this method of identifying Aeron's size (1-3 bumps under the logo) work with the remastered version?
The is just a perfekt produkt description! Thanks a lot Dream! 🤝
@@username121709 Are you happy with it? Would you still recommand ?
Dude, I spent a whole year sitting my ass on a WOODEN chair without cushions. The mesh on the remastered Aeron is like a pillow to me lol
agreed. The pellicle on the remastered is more course and taut.
Most amazing review for the aeron chair 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
For some reason, I keep sliding forward on the classic version? How can I fix this issue? Any suggestions would help! Thank you.
Do you have the forward tilt function lever up? th-cam.com/video/nYnFkdsZnmE/w-d-xo.html NL
This is a outstanding review. Thanks
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it! -TK
Are there any sales or discounts that Herman Miller offers for the Aeron or Embody?
So the classic Aeron was last manufactured in 2016 or 2015? I saw someone selling a bunch of 2014 classic Aeron chairs on FB for $425
I want a chair that I can sit in for 8 hours a day, and has a head rest.
Does the chair still lock in the tilt forward and up-right position? It's something that is not really mentioned anywhere!
It depends on which mechanism you go with. If you get the upgraded mechanism, then it will feature tilt limiter and forward seat tilt. This option is available on both the Classic and Remastered. -RB
@@btodtv Thank you! I'll have to buy this blind as no shops are open at the minute to test.
What are the color options for the Aeron Classic?
Hi, great video. If the arm rests have the lever-lock does that guarantee it's the remastered? I'm looking at used chairs for sale and it's hard to tell. thx
nedderfu watch at 11:36 it talks about the armrest. The answer to your question is no. If the arm rest has the lever lock it doesn’t guarantee it’s a remastered. Since they had these from 2004 and the remaster are from 2016.
Just look at the shape of the big black box under the seat that houses all the various mechanical controls. The new model is much longer and flatter, thats what I go by.
How come I have a classic version without any lever to lock the tilt angle? I'm confused.
Awesome review , but why are they so expensive
They are high end products. We believe they are some of the best office chairs built. -GK
But what about knobs for back/forward tilt? Seems it's better realized and easier to use in Classic Aeron.
Great video, guys! Thanks so much!
is it possible to lock when in forward tilt position in Remastered?
Yes the tilt limiter knob gets an extra tilt lock position when the forward tilt is engaged.
