Had one since 1996 using unleaded not had a problem . Used for camping ect every year .Would never go back to gas camping stove .Hunting gas for camping is a nightmare if you are in a strange place and a bank holiday .. Gas cost more than the duel fuel stove and you don't worry too much about running out of fuel as its easy located and what you don't need out your jerry can you can use in the tank of your car. in the uk..Just make sure you don't flood it and you have a blue flame before use . Need the flame up to temp(blue before use or your pan base will soot up and you psi in the tank is low /or burner /s are flooded .. Flooding is usually due to low psi or slow in lighting .. you want to light the burner immediately will a turn on.. When cooker is off .When cooled remove tank and /or let pressure off tank . if there is a small leak on the shut off valve it won't flood the burners when relighting ... Allow flame to extinguish and stove to cool before tank removal. One thing i have always told anyone that is with us is a fire guide .If anything should happen to the stove while its in use and they don't know anything about them or seen one is , how to turn it off and if it should have a problem NEVER TRY TO REMOVE THE TANK.

Great Review, very useful, Have just purchased a second hand one, can't wait for it to arrive! Subscribed as well, like the straightforward style. Thanks. Sam.

Coleman 424 doesn't burn very clean using gasoline. You have yellow flame most of the time and the pots will all have a thick coat of carbon, i.e., black!

I noticed you didn't mention the priming reservoir, (the little dip in the tank below the lever to turn on the fuel) an oldtimer told me in cold weather the reservoir needs to be filled with alcohol or alcohol gell, then ignited. This helps to vaporize the white gas so ignition is easier. Great video Thanks for sharing it!

      That isn't a priming resovoir!!
These stoves function fine in very cold weather

I've just got one of these second-hand yesterday, an impulse buy. Anyway, the price of Coleman fuel is really putting me off keeping it. I looked into using unleaded but wherever I look online I don't read anything positive. I also worry about fumes from unleaded.
how long does a bottle of Coleman's fuel last?

I believe the gaseous byproducts of combustion of the additives in unleaded to prevent preignition, that the lead was there for, are poisonous. If running on unleaded use in a very well ventilated position.
