One of my absolute favorite stoves. I have used this type of stove in one form or another for close to 30 years of back packing. These stoves are nearly bullet proof. (Mine have been dunked in rivers, used in cold weather, high winds and even rain.) Great Vid from across the Pond.
This is powerful enough to stir fry with a wok. I love mine, if anyone tried to nick it I'd just brain them with the thing. Aspen 4 is the fuel mate. Better than the Coleman it's cleaner. It's about 20 quid for 5 a Litre can. Well worth it. Just got a 424 in the post today so I'm happy as Larry. Read somewhere that you can run carb cleaner through these to clean the generator. I'd look that one up mind you rather than take my word for it.
I'm looking to get one of these. Some I've looked at say unleaded 533 on the side and others say duel fuel 533 Are they identical apart from the name? David.
I remember my granddads old shed as a kid and on one of the shelves it had a rusty old duel fuel stove that he must have had as a young lad and it looked almost identical to this Coleman stove, so this design has lasted the test of time. I never used it but i was going to ask if i could use it for Cadets, but we had to use those British Army solid fuel stoves. A shame really.
Good review and demo. I use Optimus and Primus stoves. The only disadvantage is having to carry meths and paraffin which stinks if it leaks on to your kit. I also have a Svea 123 which is a very basic stove. I prefer stoves with brass tanks for some reason but this is certainly worth consideration.
You are kidding about other manufacturers!!! Many good stoves for many different scenarios. Great to hear you did a lot of research.. Super unleaded petrol has cleaners in it and it does not clog the generator. And, normal unleaded will clogg the generator after a number of years of heavy use...the generator is cheaper to replace than Coleman fuel.
Nice review of a good stove. I have a Coleman 533 which stopped working due to me using old stale unleaded petrol. Changed the generator and good as newNow I will only use coleman fuel. Subbed Sandy
so untrue.. i use unleaded petrol ONLY and have been using these stoves for years without any issue... some people like you just talk out their Arse ! why use OLD fuel ??
this is not a dual fuel stove, its the unleaded petrol version... i have both types of 533 this version is designed use unleaded petrol in THIS stove ( the clue is in the name.. 533 Unleaded fuel ).. the dual fuel version however, can also take colmans fuel..
rob b I called Coleman, and they told me that they are the same models, just different labels for different regions. They both take unleaded and Coleman fuel. There is no difference except for the lable.
much less likely to clog up with coleman full so pay for over priced full that is harder to find and probally still have the same result supper unleaded petrol does ok in it yes just clean and service it when required
One of the reasons you don't want to transport the unit with pressure in it, is that the lever may open during the trip, and the gas fumes may affect your driving ability and you know what might happen next.

The carry case is nice.....they also fit well in a big coffee can.
I wonder if BP ultra unleaded petrol would be good to stop the generator blocking up
can you mix the coleman fuel with the petrol 50/50 to keep the generator in good condition cheers

Adding - This stove has a larger diameter generator to cope with unleaded... But I did do my research.

Aspen 4 and panel wipe works just as well as Coleman Fuel and a lot cheaper
Alkalyte gasoline is clean an cheaper. It can found in many places.

a few liters of unleded and the savings pays for a new generator not using coleman fuel
