- The Atlantic Coast city of Essaouira is by no means a secret to travelers but neither is it necessarily a place whose name quickly rolls off the tongue when one hears of Morocco.
Yet, in my view, it should be among the top destinations for anyone looking for a real Moroccan experience beyond the marvelous Marrakesh, Fez, Tangier etc. This well-preserved and fortified fishing town checks all the boxes if you like your history, architecture and quaintness served up with sea breezes and wide sandy beaches.
In this video, I immerse myself in the medina, old Portuguese fortress, the beach, fishing docks, the souq and the streets and plazas of a fabled town that has long attracted movie crews and a host of notables, from Jimi Hendrix to Orson Welles.

Essaouira looks and feels like a very authentic place to visit! I love the fact that wandering around the shaded byways of ancient stone and exploring (without the horrible motorcycle decibels)
seems blissfully possible 🌺.
So many places now are overwhelmed with these ….
Yes, Michael it's a terrific place. And made even better by the serendipity of it. I came to Essaouira expecting it would be a cool place but having no idea it would turn out to be that kind of cool. Just a win-win all around.

Sorry you couldn’t find your sardines in fact there are other coastal cities famous for sardines and Essaouira is not one of them. Moroccans are tired of sardines and when they go to Essaouira they go after real seafood.
as for the statue I’m not aware or seen one before it must be a misinformation.

Hi Justin. An "around the world" ticket is merely a marketing gimmick. If you want to travel around the world decide for yourself what places you want to include in the itinerary and book your own travel as a series of one-way flights.
