  • This Cub Cadet zero turn mower would not start and was left abandoned outside for years. With some missing parts and some troubleshooting to do, I am determined to get this thing running.
    FYI - This is a zero turn mower on a lawn tractor platform...pretty cool.

    I would have to see that thing in action to believe it's a zero turn but that's cool

    I have watched a lot of videos on lawnmowers, this is the way I troubleshoot, you are very clear and do a great job explaining what and why you are trying to accomplish.

    Good work, man. I ran across this very same tractor on Facebook marketplace today. a 2007 year model. Lucky for me it was 1, very close by, and 2, it was 150 bucks. It had been sitting for a couple of years. Dude told me he thinks the fuel pump was out. Also lucky for me it hadn't been hacked on or touched at all. It is stone factory stock with the same V twin 25HP engine.
    We disengaged the drive motors and still would not move. the tires were not flat but were very low. we aired them up. the brakes were stuck. We bumped it back and forth a few times, it freed up, pushed it up on the trailer.
    While researching this thing online and searching for a service manual I discovered Cub Cadet web page does not list or offer service manuals for this I1050 older lawn tractor. This pissed me off immensely! This is the very reason I refuse to purchase any power equipment where the manufacturer does not support its older equipment. It makes no sense. yeah, they want to sell you new shit, I get that but damnit, support your old shit! Anyway,
    I got it home, hand turned the engine. It moved! I was excited. The battery was crusty and old. ran down to WalMart and picked up a new battery. I installed it. I checked the oil, it was fine. I pulled the plugs. Checked for spark. Had good spark on both sides. Cool! The old plugs appeared to have been running lean. This makes sense, it was starving for fuel. Installed new plugs. I disconnected the fuel line to the pump and blew back into the tank. I note on the site window it was showing about 1/8 tank. When I blew into the line leading to the tank all I heard was air, no bubbling. that's weird. I will address this and the pump later.
    I was anxious to see if it would start and hear it run. I did manage to find an online PDF manual for this engine. hit it up if you want the link. Anyway, the manual said typical compression is 160psi. This would explain why it sounds like a weak battery or a starter about to die. I thought about an external gas tank but it was getting dark. I grabbed a can of starting fluid and gave it a short shot and hit the key. It didn't miss a lick. It fired right up and sounded fantastic.
    Now here is where the work comes in. Cleaning it up, touching up the paint (very little rust to deal with) and maybe a couple of belts. I will be about 250 to 300 bucks into it and will cut as nicely as a new machine costing 1000s more. Thanks for sharing, sir.
    Cheers from Louisiana.

    Check the valve guide tappiits& pusrods spacers.& along with valve clearance on the cylinders.,or cylinder giving you problems. It could have A bent pushrod inside is all.& that means that your valves are loose.& will need readjusting to factory settings again.

    Those rods are rolled up hard longer than a minute I've seen that done many many times usually it's from people over tightening the vows but I'd never had a problem with straightening one of those out as long as they weren't wore off on the end

    What do you think caused 2 push rods to bend??

    • @SmallEngineDIY
      @SmallEngineDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is kind of strange that both sides had bent intake rods. Maybe the valve gap was set way off on both sides. I know the previous owner didn't seen to be mechanically inclined.

    What I find insane is people will pay $2000 and more just to leave outside could never figure that out I have a Craftsman T240 tight turn paid $2,520 it's in my garage where it belongs

      I'm with you, I purchased a new Craftsman YT-3000 for $1500 back in 2013 it now has 850 hours on the B&S 21HP single cylinder Intek and it's used all 4 seasons to cut grass, mulch leaves, and plow snow. It gets blown off with a leaf blower, wiped down, and put back in the garage on a battery maintainer after every use and still looks like it just came off the showroom floor. It's rediculous that someone can spend all that money for a nice piece of equipment and can't take a couple minutes to keep it maintained and ready for it's next use or even put a $10 tarp over it for protection if they don't have a shed or garage to keep it in.

    Got a question, what do you think cause the rods to bend, I have a 2013 Cub Cadet bought it new done had it about 6 yrs with only 180 something hrs on it with a Kw engine still run good and haven’t had a minute of trouble with it I keep it service like the owners manual tell you to, i like watching your videos and since I’m always watching i was just being curious especially with the Cub Cadet.

    • @SmallEngineDIY
      @SmallEngineDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes if a valve sticks it. Could bend the rod. It is unusual to see both intake rods bent. In this case, my guess is a previous user error. Must have set them both wrong, plus it was missing the ignition switch and pto switch.

    Hi there greetings from Florida forgive me if I bother you all but I have one like the video and lately it has been giving me troubles, I have been very happy with it until about a month and haft ago when after I cut my lawn shut off and since then I can turn it on and off but when I pull the nob to lower the blades and start lawing it shut off right away so I can ride along forward and reverse but every time I try to put it on lawn mode it shut off.
    Please any help? Tips or guidance?
    Allow me to thank you ahead of time for any help
