Watch a full tutorial as a 2020 Toyota Corolla will have an amplifier and subwoofer installed. We will be installing our amplifier under the driver side front seat and integrated to the factory audio sound system.
NOTE: Our corolla was not equipped with the upgraded JBL amplified audio system. IF you have JBL, you will need to tap into the JBL amp with the harness linked in the description below for your audio signal.
This video applies to Toyota Corolla models for years 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and newer. NOTE: this process can be done for corollas with the earlier generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019) however the dash design is different when installing your line out converter to the factory audio system. This video also includes kick panel removal, complete installation for the powered subwoofer / amp, wiring, and testing!

By FAR the BEST video on this subject I could find! Clear and easy too see what needs to be done.
Wth makes that T-harness $60?!
@@vincentking8267 For the full Pac T harness, yes. For just the non-JBL speaker t harness, it's cheap.
@@ProvoBeastAudio FYI, I checked out some of the cheaper ones, and that red wolf wiring is only 20ga 😬. And I can't seem to find a good alternative, so I may be buying more expensive, or cutting into the harness, because I'm not sending amped signals to door speakers through 20ga wiring.
After many cut fingers, and MANY f-bombs I’ve successfully installed my amp and sub in my 2022 Corolla because of this video. Thank you for taking the time to make this and I appreciate the hell out of you.
Did you set the gains for the amp?
that's about to be me, thank goodness he made this video
Just FYI the bolt needed for that ground spot is a 6mm 2.00 pitch
DUDE!!! THANK YOU. I just got a 22 XSE that for some reason didn't have the JBL system and desperately needs at least a sub. This is exactly the video I needed
Are there 2 speakers up on dash by glass window.??
Right? I have a 21 xse and whoever bought it first, never got the upgraded system… you get the xse but don’t upgrade the radio? lol 😫
Thank you for sharing and making the Corolla with much needed upgrade in the sound system.
Thank you very much! The attention to detail was well appreciated
Thank you so much. In my 2011 I just spliced into the rear package tray speakers. My 22 doesn't have them. You're a life saver.
Each day I struggle like hell, want to quit, and then wake up ready to install the subs. It’s been two days going on 3, this video helped a lot. Thanks.
Keep going bro it gets better
Thank you for the video, massive help to the DIY community. Got a Skar SDR 10" sub installed running at 500W rms off of a Leigesaudio cheap amp, Stinger 4ga wiring, Kicker LOC, Red Wolf harness adapter on my 24' Corolla LE. Not one broken clip so happy haha. After much main manually locating rear speaker wires and polarity with my buddies tool the system sounds great!!
which one is it i’m currently looking for it
Thank you for this, hard to find any wiring schematics. I just installed this exact set up almost, and the speaker wires are the same, on my 2022 Corolla SE, behind the head unit(radio). Getting the power wire through the firewall is by far the hardest part. I tried going through the passenger but it was too tight and I did not want to remove the windshield wiper and cowel. I removed the battery and had a bit more access to the grommet back there. After some cut up hands everything is installed almost exactly like how you did it. Last thing I need is an AUX cord to connect my base knob but other than that I’m set! Finally, so stoked. Much appreciate you taking the time to film this.
so removing my battery is the secret. say no more
Thank you for taking the time to make and post this video! I had no idea how to get power through the firewall and to the trunk on my 2023 Corolla. I couldn't see any grommets because of the heat shield. This saved the day, and it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Instead of soapy water, I used dielectric grease and it worked great. Thanks again!
my heat shield is in the way too, help me brother. please
Ah hell why can't they just make like the old days....so now I gotta get so much stuff. Will I do it yes today nope. Thank you sir for this video saved me lots of time.
That’s an m6 bolt for the ground wire. Found that out today. Your video was super useful for my 2024 Corolla install
Did you do it yourself?
@@NSBhomies I did everything but the line output converter on the deck. Had a shop do that and adjust the gain. That little 8” Skar EVL hits hard with the 800 watt amp that came with the kit.
If you’re doing this on a 2024 the wires are gonna be completely different colors than in the video. The good thing is that the wires are all in the same position. Just put my system in today and damn near shit myself after seeing that the colors were different. Threw a Hail Mary and guessed that the connections were all the same just different colors and it worked🙌🏼
Bro can you help me what color is the 12v and ground?! I figured out the spks
man the complexity of this is nuts - i would not trust anyone at like a best buy doing this in my new corolla.
Yeah, i'd avoid most big box stores.
Wouldn't be an audio install without at least one bloody knuckle 😂✊🏽
Question: I have the 2020 Corolla XSE with the dreadful JBL so-called upgraded audio package. Can I tap my Wavtech Link DQ LOC from the JBL factory subwoofer leads to gain the lower frequency hertz??? I have played 40 and 50 HZ test tones and metered the voltage and get nothing. I only get voltage when I play midrange frequencies around 200-300 HZ. Thoughts? I hear the factory sub is DVC so I assume I would connect both positives together to the pos lead of the LOC and the same for the negative. I am running a mono 1200 watt rms Pioneer amp at 1 ohm (stable) to only power a 1200 watt rms American Bass subwoofer.
Hey Provo Beast,
If I use the Full Pac T-Harness, will it already have a ground cable?
Or would you recommend making one like you did by using the mounting locations (6:11)
Do you have any info on what the factory head unit clips at? I keep mine below 45 is that too low for clean signal
I want to say thank you for this video! I was finally able to install my niece's kicker system from using your video. She's supper happy. Gret video! Thanks!! 👍🏻
I have a 2023 GR Corolla... You sure this will work... Lots of places say 2022 is were it stops
Did you ever figure out which harness works with 2023-2024? I don't want to purchase the wrong one. Thanks
Any idea if this is the same as the Corolla Cross? Looking to add a sub. Thanks!
Did you set the output of the LOC with the DD1 as well?!
Where did you find the wiring diagram? I wanna connect mine into the rear speakers but I can’t find an accurate color coordinated diagram
I've got 2 jbl p1224 12 inch subwoofers and a 3000 watt genius Amp can I wire this up in my carolla the same way?
What is the remote wire in this car (OEM stereo)
I have a corolla 2020
Hi Chris! Great videos, like always!
I'm trying to connect an Alpine KTP445A amp to my Corolla Sedan (2023), The speakers are already connected with an individual harness for the speakers with the 445A harness, was the only thing I finded until I see your video...
The doubt that I have, is if I have to buy PAC LPHTY02 to complete my installation or if I can connect the power cords individually of the other plug an can work correctly.
I supposed that direct 12v, ground and key ignition 12v are basical, but the telephone wire, remote one or other are compulsory to work. Or being connected to the main unit, they are doing their function yet.
The thing is that, where I can found a diagram of factory plug for knowing which wire are every one. Cause 12v and ground I have located with your video, but in my car are different colors...
Thank u very much in advanced!
I'm having the same issue at the moment did you ever figure out which wires are for what?
Does this work for the new radio system for 23 and 24? its not the same as the one shown in video
After installation did anyone have issues with the steering wheel controls not working? I followed this video and installed a sub+amp in a 2022 Corolla. Two weeks after installation the steering wheel controls started acting up and eventually stopped working. I took it to the dealer who replaced the coil wire and the steering wheel and did not have the issue resolve. I had to bail out because if the issue was caused by the sound work it wouldn’t be under warranty. Any ideas? Again, I followed this guide closely. I’ve no idea why this is happening.
Would the process be the same for a 2021 hybrid Corolla?
Do I need the hardnes to not cut the oem wires??
Is the color code the same for a 2020 rav4?
Did anyone have rattles from the rear after subwoofer install? Is it mainly from the rear deck?
How different would this be on a 2020 yaris??
Sweet
so if you had the T-Harness, would you still have to cut those T Harness wires instead?
How did you actually mount the amp board? Looks like it is just sitting on top of the carpet?
Curious, what voltage did you set the LOC gains to?
Was wondering if there's a more ghetto alternative for me.
Will be a Corolla 2.0L Hybrid Sport Touring, with the battery and a power socket (lighter-type, IIRC) in the trunk. So, have a powered subwoofer, nothing too fancy or demanding, that I can plug in and out, and with a Blutooth receiver for the signal), with some app. Plus tere are some interesting storage compartments in the Touring that could be useful to tuck away some stuff.
Subwoofers don't need high-fidelity signals, just anything below 100hz, which is pretty easy going for a wireless transmitter. With Android Auto, might even write an app myself.
First, I'll probably upgrade the speakers, and work on a bit of sound insulation, something I already did in a old Almera. Will see how it sounds first.
Naaah, I think I'll go with the Basspro Hub, using its high-level inputs and auto-sensing. I'll need to make a harness though, but should be easy enough.
@@0bzen22I've installed Jbl Basspro and it is a very good sub.
Please do this install but with the JBL system. I will love you forever! Great channel!
Will do, once a JBL trim in this gen passes through the install shop!
Good luck with it! You can not tap into any speaker wires as they are heavily crossovered and filtered. You will only have 200-400 hz going to the sub from the LOC. I assume a Kicker Key Loc is the only way to get a full range, clean audio signal outputted.
@@jms7585 If you want a clean output, use the Pac AP4-TY13 if you have JBL!
Will this work with a Camry?
I need the JBL version
Could u do an aftermarket deck installation for this vehicle
Yes, a dash kit is now available for this, however, it only fits certain radios based on the space available. Send us a message on facebook and we can assist you with the parts needed.
I replaced my factory speakers with some good kicker ones, but I still have the factory stereo unit. I'm planning on adding a subwoofer and a 5-channel amplifier (using this video) and if possible, I'd like to add my new speakers to my amp using this same method. Is it possible to use this method but with a 2-channel output converter for my sub and a 4-channel output converter for my speakers? Or is this only something that can be done when adding a subwoofer? I have a 22 Corolla SE without JBL.
Some 5 channel amplifiers have the option to internally pull the sub signal from the front 4 channels. So you may only need to install a 4 channel LOC for now (depending on your amplifier.)
if both the black an gray connectors on the back of the head unit splice into the one connector of the PAC do i have to buy 2 t-harnesses? or do both the black and gray connectors connect to the t-harness?
If you just need to tap in for signal, just get the red wolf one linked in the description. It’s cheap and gets the job done.
How is the amplifier mounting rack secured to the vehicle ?
I've been looking for a ready made plate that securely attaches to the car , not just lay there ?
I've glued a wooden board under the carpet to avoid drilling in the floor. But now I want to change an amp bigger one And I Wonder where to put it or maybe again under the seat. However Access to amp under the seat is not good.
Been considering something similar for mine, does anyone know if the trunk rattles with a set up like this?
many modern cars have a plastic trunk, so it may rattle even with a small subwoofer like this one... :/
Hey Chris the plugs in the radio are different for a hybrid any luck on a diagram for that
Sure, shoot me a message on facebook or instagram and we can find a solution
Could I turn the bass up on the radio for a little bit more bass on the door or would that risk damaging the subwoofer?
You can turn the gain on the amp down if you feel like it's needed
hey! i did what said but when i bought the t harness the power wires come with a yellow and an orange and have one constant coming from the car , but my car radio keeps pulling power even after dissconnecting my amp , any ideas what i did wrong ?
The line out converter may remain on until the vehicle goes to sleep for up to 5-10 minutes. Depends on the line out converter, depends on your connections.
you can utilize the factory head unit when adding a sub and amp? A buddy of mine has a 2020 Corolla with no JBL sound. He wants to add a sub. If the stock head unit can be utilized what will I need besides the obvious? Here is my list so far
1. 10" sub enclosed with box
2. amp
3. wiring for amp/sub
4. wiring harness for head unit to sub/amp? will that be needed?
any help will be greatly appreciated
If you send me a message on facebook / instagram, happy to help.
I have a 2021 Camry with JBL. I want to upgrade the amp only. Not sure how to do or what I need
I can help you, but you'd need to send me a message on our facebook page.
Hi Chris, for non-JBL corolla. Do I need to buy both optional T-harness you linked or just the full pac?
No, you can simply by the red wolf one to prevent the need to tap into the OEM speaker wiring. If you want to tap into power and ground as well of the radio, then go with the Pac Harness. It's one or the other, not both.
@@ProvoBeastAudio alrighty, thank you very much!
I don't know why but maybe because the one I working on has navigation but my stereo wiring is nothing like this. Completely different
Did you ever find the correct diagram, I'm trying to do this now and can't find anything
Could you tell me if the customer supplied most of the equipment what should the labor charge be
Huge variables there - depends on the shop of what they will charge. Most shops wont install your own equipment as they cannot warranty it. You will have to call around if to find a shop that will install your own equipment.
@@ProvoBeastAudio ok
Hey Chris. I'm installing a single sub in my 2020 Toyota Corolla without the JBL sound system. I purchased the LPHTY02 T- Harness and the Pac LP7-2. My question is how to tap into the T-harness? Included with the harness are pigtails. Is that where to make the speaker level input connection to the LOC and if so,should I connect to the rear speaker wiring instead of the front? Also, can i power the LOC by connecting it to the power extension pigtail harness that connects to the T-harness?
Thanks for your time Chris.
Lots of great questions, and to be more helpful, send me a message on our facebook page so we can walk you through the process!
Either don't use the pig tails and connect the speaker runs straight through, or use one set of pig tails (either the front or rear set) and tie in your LP7-2. Yes, you can also tie in the power and ground into the yellow and black wires on the T harness. Here is the manual which helps as well: catalog.pac-audio.com/index.php?controller=attachment&id_attachment=1990
Thanks alot Chris! Im begining to see what needs to happen. I'll message you if I run into anything, or better yet, how it turns out! Thanks again for your time. Your installation videos are the best I've seen out.
Worked out great! I tied the Line out converter (Pac LP7-2) into the left and right front speaker wires of the Pac LPHTY02 T-harness using one of the the included pigtails LPH-SPK(E), ( red, red/black, blue, blue black) according to the instructions. I also connected the also included power extension pigtail ( LP-SPK(F) (yellow, red, black), I cut and twist capped the red wire (ignition) , butt spliced the yellow (constant 12V) and black (ground) into the matching wires on the LOC. So far, so good, and I didn't have to cut into the vehicle factory harness. Thank you for all the info you put in this video , and also taking the time, reaching out, and answering my questions. So again guys, thank you!
Do you think 0 gauge wire could fit through either one of the grommets?
did you try yet? Im gonna run 0 gauge as well
@@dueloneduel yeah. The grommet above the Gas Pedal is where I did it. You have easier access going through the firewall, the grommet is behind the battery
@@Crizpyx thanks a lot!
Do I need to buy the SMD DD-1 or is there any other possible way to set the gains?
Thanks in advance.
You can set gains with a multi-meter as well, there are videos on youtube to do that.
@@ProvoBeastAudio awesome, thank you!
I put everything together got spark in the ground wire. Then never again. My amp won’t turn in. I’ve tried changing the fuse in the amp. The one to the radio is good. I’m not sure if there’s any other fuses or anything else I can do. Or do you possibly think the amp could have fried. Idk what to do. Thanks.
Fuse under the hood by the battery. Sounds like you had a short.
@@ProvoBeastAudio are you talking about the main fuse to the positive wire where you put the fuse in? I checked it and it was good. So I think I maybe had a faulty Amp so I’m getting refunded one
Will this work for a ‘20 Corolla hybrid?
Hybrids are tricky in that they don't have a traditional alternator, and instead High to low voltage reducer / regulator to charge the 12v battery from the high voltage hybrid battery. Most converters by toyota are 30 amp output, so this "may" work, but may be too much for your hybrid's electrical system to support. You can still add a sub, but consider something a bit more conservative (20 amps max).
My constant power and negative for loc are different colors. Mines not turning on
use a multi meter to check your connections.
@@ProvoBeastAudio found the my remote turn on connection was loose. Amp turns off but goes into protection mode right away as soon as the sub hits
@@ProvoBeastAudio found the problem. My ground had a small plastic backing that I didn’t notice. Fixed ground works great now!
Do I need both t-harnesses or just one or the other?
Just one or the other depending on your trim.
Ok thanks! How do I know which one I need of the non jbl ones
When does the head unit clip?
From what I remember, clips after 60.
Does the JBL headunit (premium audio package) clip at 60 as well?
I have the non jbl 2022 corolla SE. For the sub frequency(40Hz) it was at vol 60. And for the highs (1KHZ) it was at 45.I used the SMD DD1 to check. Since I just added a 4 channel to my system I set both my sub and highs amp 45.I'm using A LC7i as my LOC.With the T harness that PB linked in his discretion.
Can you do a Toyota Corolla SE 2023 with JBL audio?
Sure once we get one in the shop.
@@ProvoBeastAudio im looking forward to it aswell without the jbl though but should still help thank you!
@@ProvoBeastAudio
Is there a way to do this just by getting the signal through the back speakers? and can a 0 gauge wire fit through the firewall?
@@AV_Cinema If you have the JBL amplifier, generally this gen Corolla has the 9 speaker system, and a factory sub in the rear deck of the car. You can tap into those leads at the factory sub for signal to your new amplifier.
@@gtech039 Zero gauge should still fit, but will be very tight getting through the firewall. You may need to drill instead. As for signal to tap into, with the JBL amplifier, you will need to tap into the factory sub located in the rear deck, or at the factory amp under the seat.
What size is the screw for the ground?
threaded OEM ground takes a 6mm with a 2.00 pitch
I found that a 6mm with 1.0 pitch fits 🤔.

For some reason, my wiring is COMPLETELY different. I have no white in the OEM wiring whatsoever. Everything that should be white is salmon pink-ish. I tried to hook everything up assuming it'd work, and to no one's surprise, absolute failure. No green light on the amp.
