I'll try this. the manual says to set the flash to manual. however, you cannot change the power from the transmitter. you solved my problem! thank you. i don't understand why you suggest master mode because regular mode works fine.

Wow. I have been trying to figure out how to change the power on my speed light when set to manual. All I had to do was to set the speed light to TTL! Thanks so much.

Good afternoon. How do you synchronize them with each other? you have different modes, TTL and Manual. We have a SB 910 flash mounted on the Godox XR1n and on the XPro n camera. and following your instructions nothing works. what could be the problem?

  • @McSeahorse
    @McSeahorse 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Just switch your 910 to ON and put it into TTL mode instead of Manual. You can still control the flash power from your Transmitter if the Transmitter is in Manual. Put the Transmitter into TTL mode for.... well, TTL control of the speed light. You obviously won't see any indication the output changes on the back of the speedlight, but believe me, it does change.
One problem you have is, if you try to measure the output with a light meter, the results will be skewed since there's no way to stop the pre-flash. But if you try it on a test subject, if you change nothing other than the power output via the Transmitter, you will see the difference in your histogram. The other problem you may have will be if you are using other speedlights or strobes set to act as slaves in your setup. If they are not S1/S2 capable, you may find they are triggered by the pre-flash.
So to recap... your 910 MUST be in TTL mode to allow the Rx to accept the signals from the Tx and set the power output, as long as your Tx is in M mode. Set the Tx to TTL for TTL. Obviously.

Flash does not need to be in MASTER mode. ON is sufficient. Master mode is if you want to use the flash to trigger another flash optically. You did touch on the key point: the flash has to be in TTL mode for adjustments to be made from the Godox transmitter. (In fact, don't use the Master or Remote models when you're just using the flash with something like the Godox wireless kit--it doesn't need to be in those modes and in some cases, your flash could be triggered by another flash by accident especially if you're shooting with others using Nikon flashes that might be in Master mode...

D7500, Sb-700 Speedlight, R2 Pro N TTL Transmitter, and R2 TTL Receiver for NIKON. I realize the SB-700 works remotely without the trigger/receiver. But I'm trying to learn how to use this before I invest in more flash units. I can't get this to work.
On Camera: Custom Setting Menu > e-Bracketing/flash>e*1Flash sync speed . 1/250 s (Auto FP)
    Transmitter: Group A Channel 1
    Receiver: Group A Channel 1
Sb-700: Turned on to Master, Left Slide TTL, set to channel 1
If I push the flash button on the transmitter it still doesn't flash the unit. So at least to that point it's not the camera settings. I'm guessing it's something on the sb-700. Or will the sb-700 not run off of this system?

Transmitter in manual mode, flash - in master mode, switch - in TTL. The power values are not displayed on the screen, but the actual power varies. The channels of the flash and transmitter is not obliged have to be equal, but must match on the transmitter and receiver. GODOX was praised for its versatility, but I'm disappointed that I have to dance with a tambourine Well, at least so... =(((

I have a camera nikon d700 and flash sb 910 sb 600 and sb 24 when using GODOX - X1 - N Triggers works with a burst of photos in Manual mode with the sb 24 but with the flash sb 910 and the sb 600 only one photo is exposed correctly, the rest of the photos are dark but the flash jumps, Then I let the flash completely load and took a second photo The flash jumps but the photo is dark. If I turn everything off and then on again, the first picture will be lit, but not the next with sb 910 and sb 600. Thought it was camera problem I tried it on another camera and it happens the same.
I put the sb 910 in master like indoor video and I shoot in burst only one photo is lighting, the rest are dark. If I shot one photo thats ok the second is dark even shooting one by one so I have to turn of the camera and turn it one again and then I can shot only one photo lighting. I am really upset I am over a week trying it to work and it only works with the flash sb 24 in manual. Thanks

    • @artbypixels

      Hi Luisa,
Thank you for the good question. I believe what you meant was that when you took burst shots with your SB-910 and SB-600, the images would look as if it was bracketed correct? It's either first image is correctly exposed and subsequent would be getting darker or first image dark then, 2nd image correct then it goes dark. I had this issue before when I was using my YongNuo triggers but so far when I tested with the Godox-X1 there wasn't any issue. Please follow these guides :
      1. Lower the burst rates. This would prolong your shooting session as shooting in bursts on a normal basis is different than shooting is bursts when strobing. I shoot in bursts of 5fps during wedding group photo taking and my Eneloop Pro batteries could still last the whole wedding. I shoot in bursts continuously whilst on a strobe shoot, my Eneloop Pro batteries lasts not even 2 hours. See the difference in power consumption?
      2. Always have fresh batteries in hand. I am not sure of what batteries you are using but when I do the test for the burst shoot on the Godox-X1, I am using a fresh new set of batteries. I would expect to have the same result as yours when my battery power is down coz less battery means longer recycling time. My always turn-to batteries are the Eneloop Pro(black color). They really took a battering when I do my strobe shoots. I have at least 12pcs of the Eneloop Pro and 6pcs of the normal white Eneloop batteries.
Try to refrain from doing alot of burst shots on your speedlight whilst strobing as it may damage the speedlight due to overheating after a period of time. Speedlights differ from strobe lights as speedlights does not come built in with a heat sink to help it to cool down so high heat may damage the components inside the speedlight which may causes unnecessary repair costs.
Sorry for the lengthy explaination. Hope this helps.
*P/S : I would like to show you the results of my burst shooting with the Godox-X1 but that would require the Atomos Ninja Blade to help me record my DSLR screen. Let me see if I can work something out, afterall this channel is mostly on my own expenses. :)

I have shooting at different speeds 1/250, 1/ 125 1/60 and difference f. The transmitter is at ch 01 Group A m 1/16 and the receivers is at ch 01 group A.

      Hi Luisa,
      Thank you for your reply.
I am quite confused coz earlier you mentioned that your flash is in master mode, then later you mentioned it is in manual mode. If you are having problems understanding the video, please do the following :
SB-910 set to master TTL, group A and channel 1
Godox X1 transmitter set to M mode Group A channel 1
Godox X1 receiver set to Group A channel 1
This settings would allow you to control your flash power from the transmitter. However you still need to understand your equipment to operate effectively. Slow down. In your case you need to understand this, the higher the flash power the more battery power it consumes causing the recycle time to be longer. If your shutter speed is faster than the flash recycling time, this would cause the issue that you are facing now. By the way, did you wait for your flash to recycle or did you just shoot without considering about the flash?
My advise is two options. Either you change your shooting style or if you prefer to remain with your shooting style, get a strobe light like the AD600B or AD600BM for consistent exposure which you can use with the Godox X1.
This is as much that I could help you with. I will try to create a video during my free time to help show you what I mean to share with everyone.
