After hours of Googling what way to trigger my Canon flashes with the new Eos-R camera, I came across this vid. So direct and well presented, thanks a lot for the upload!
The TCM button sounds good for studio work because you can start your pre-setup in TTL then switch to manual for the actual shoot. That way you don't have to worry about the quirk that TTL has of having the exposure shift if you change the framing of your subject. It will result in making post-processing easier when the exposure is constant.
LADDA are a cheaper version of the Eneloop batteries sold by Ikea. They are made in the same factory and some have said they have even out performed the Eneloop in tests. I just bought 4 and they allow my flash to power up more quickly than my other rechargeables.
These triggers are really great. When you consider how many features are packed into that tiny box for less than $80 it's completely worth the money (compared to over $400 for a Profoto trigger with fewer features). I love the ALL button and the TCM button and use them often since I mainly shoot in Manual mode. When I first saw something similar to TCM on the Profoto system I thought that was the coolest thing but couldn't see myself paying for Profoto gear. When I learned that Godox had the same thing (plus more features) I sold all my existing lighting gear and went Godox/Flashpoint. Glad that there is a *switch* to turn on/off the focus assist beam rather than requiring users to dive into a menu system to turn it on/off. I do with the focus assist beam was tighter like the Canon Speedlites, but hopefully that will be improved in the XPro III version whenever it comes out; because the XPro II version has a very similar focus assist beam. I agree with you that manufacturers need to build gear to better accept rechargeable batteries. Meanwhile, I find much more reliable results by using 1.5V alkaline batteries in my triggers than 1.2V rechargeable batteries. Everything else I do is with rechargeable batteries, but when it comes to a radio system I'll still use alkaline if it means more reliability. *No Pass-Through* - Not sure why you recommend the Pixel King as an option for a pass-through hotshoe, especially since the Pixel King doesn't appear to be any better than the Godox X1T. I have no experience with Pixel King, but I'm assuming it isn't *Cross-Brand Compatible* like the Godox X1T and probably won't trigger or control Godox speedlites or the larger Godox/Flashpoint strobes. I own the XPro (both the Godox and Flashpoint versions), the Flashpoint XPro II, and the Godox X1T. I use the X1T when I need an on-camera flash and it works fine, but for everything else, I really like the XPro II (except for some misfire issues with the AD600 Pro strobes). The manuals are definitely a challenge, especially since I like to read the manuals and learn about everything my gear is capable of. I recently had issues understanding the manual for my AD200 and had to get online and ask around. After several responses someone was able to figure it out and now I know what the manual was trying to say.
@@JaredRibic oh heavens, don't judge😅 currently just using commander mode with my Nikon's (d300s & d7100) I only get about 7 - 10 ft if I'm lucky. This is still a great tutorial. I am being constantly let-down by my Pocket Wizard units as they work and then quit at the most inconvenient times. For event photography get a flash bracket. Moves the flash further from the lens and the trigger can operate that flash as well. You can change the power settings from the tigger rather than the flash.
Thanks for the review and also I've just gone through your portraits course on your website. All very informative and useful. I had a Godox flash and was always having trouble with the Yongnuo triggers but after watching this I switched to the Godox X1 TTL trigger (cheaper here than the X Pro) and it works great. I'll probably get a couple more Godox flashes because they seem to work well with the triggers in a unit.
Good video - thank you Phil. Regarding lack of pass-through TTL hotshoe. It is really simple to solve this. Mount your camera on a bracket and attach the flash to the bracket. I have just bought this together with an AD200 Pro (with a circular head), a V1 and all the goodies - what a fantastic system!

Coincidentally I just had one of these delivered yesterday for my Nikon camera. I already have a Godox flash, which works well. I was playing around with it before you released the video and you gave me a little more insight into its use, which I appreciate. Just getting started with off-camera flash. Makes me think it might be worthwhile to take the course mentioned in the video. 😀
Hi Phil. Many thank for this post (and for all the others !). Your presentation is crystal clear. I was desesperately searching for the reason why I was not able to adjust with my Xpro-C the light power of my old Canon flash "Speedlight 580EX". Apparently you experimented the same issue with your 430EX.
When I bought XPro trigger, the seller recommended 1.5 V AA alkalines over rechargeable eneloops because of the voltage. 1.2 V eneloops may cause problems. It's a bit bad thing because I like to use eneloops instead of alkalines that you use only once.
The flash settings locks in when in full view mode. Try setting your old flash to TTL mode while using the XPro in manual mode as it should adjust the power. Godox uses TTL protocol to control some other flash brands and it works for all my older flashes. I enjoyed the video!
I have the xpro, the ad200 and the TT685, all by godox. These are my first flash set up, so not sure how they compare to other systems, but it is so convenient and versatile. I can have the TT685 on body, or the xpro onbody and the TT685 on a stand, or have the ad200 with or without the TT685, plus I can expand if necessary (so far I haven't needed to), so 2 units which can be off-body or one on, one off. It is a very useful set up and gives you loads of options...damn, I sound like a good salesperson...maybe other brands are as good (or better?), but it was relatively cheap to get going and easy for a noob (like myself) to understand (use TH-cam, not the manual, for set-up and how to use!)
wow, I wish you would talk about the flashes TT600 and the receiver settings. Nevertheless I enjoyed your class, very clear as well as not a waste of time talking about insignificant things. Your viewing is excellent and voice. I'm going to take some of your classes today after I find out how to work the receiver and the flash, it looks difficult now that you've made the transmitter look like first grade ABC-123 Again, thanks
Do you have Godox XPro-N for Nikon ? Or XPro-C for Canon ? I Have Godox XPro-N for Nikon and I'm trying to see if it will work with Canon flash that I have, using the X1R-C receiver for Canon

Tip: you don´t need TTL Pass Through on the godox system for on camera flash, just get a TT685 Flash that have a Radio Master built in so you can use it on camera while it triggers off camera flashes also.... 2 things about the XPro trigger, the assist beam isn´t calibrated to align with the focusing system of the camera and is too visible that can show clearly on video or another photographer and the battery door is soooo loose. Even with that problems the unit is a great buy
Francisco, good point about the ability to use a Godox flash on-camera as a master for remotes. Regarding the focus assist beam, it's good that they give a power switch for it, so you can turn it off when shooting video.
steeletraining if you compare it to the canon 580 ex II assist beam it is obnoxious in comparison. Not only on appearance ... but accuracy wise the canon is far far superior
Excellent info on rechargeable vs. alkaline batteries, thank you! Also, 100% agree on manuals. This product is excellent but the printed manual with it fairly worthless
It is not compatible. But if you got the ATG/Godox 2.4GHz TTL receiver & Canon 600EX-RT not set in 2.4GHz (radio mode). You would place the 600EX-RT onto the receiver (transmitter/receiver must be on same Channel & Group), then it will be fully compatible. * Place XPro (Canon) onto camera's hotshoe * Place Canon 600EX-RT into ATG/Godox's receiver * DO NOT set 600EX-RT in radio mode * Transmitter & Receiver must be in same CH & G. * Place 600EX-RT onto receiver
@@PioMio55 What problems are you having? Reply with your email address here or contact Alzo Digital. Then asks for ATG, if you don't want to give out your email address.
You mentioned the problem you had with the Canon 430 EX: the trigger will only activate the flash in ETTL mode. Well I discovered the same problem with my 580 EX. None of the other functions on the flash are available to me using the XPro-C trigger and X1R-C receiver. On the other hand, I had no problems with the 580 EX II. I tried swapping the X1R-C receivers between both the 580 EX and the 580 EX II, but I got the same result. I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem?
ATG circuits were not implemented until on 580EX II. Canon made a big mistake & didn't know how important the ATG Auto2 mode was. So its taken well over 15 years for them to put those two features in and paying royalties on 580EX II, 600EX-RT, 600EX II-RT. Simply put it won't work on older flashes below 580EX II.
excellent video. Unfortunately, I agree with your statement concerning older canon speedlights. I have the canon 430 ex...will have to get a canon 580 ex ii...
Have you noticed any issues with it caused by the rechargeable batteries? (besides the battery indicator). It's 'because I'm planning to use it only with rechargeable AA batteries.
Well done, thank you for that helpful vid! I received today my XproS Trigger for my Sony A7RIII and tomorrow my AD200 Pro will arrive as well. I am excited to test the system ☺️ I hope there is a new firmware on the trigger which avoids that „Press the set button - Move“ for confirming the flash power.
Thanks! -- I live in Taiwan and your comment about hiring a native English speaker for a quick edit of the manual highlights such a coooommmon issue. Signs and instructions often have some weird language quirks. And this is all despite the younger generations here speaking English very well. Weird
Very interesting video that helped me better understand some features of the XproC. The very bad manual provided with the device is really disappointing. I had to write down my own manual (in french) in order to be able to use it correctly. Thanks for your nice work and the quality of the video... I will be glad to discover how you use it in a shooting environment.
Hello well explained Thanks. But I have a Godox trigger but it's called reemix. The transmitter comes with flash, B and camera. It's have no off button like the receiver. Some it doesn't respond when I shoot. What am I doing wrong?
So do I need to buy both a transmitter and a receiver? I have a Canon 430ex ii. I also want to get a better speedlight, because I found that one is hard to adjust by the buttons. I'd like a dial. Or is it possible to adjust by the transmitter instead? Seems to be the case, but I wanted to ask.
I have a Canon 6D mark ii and a Canon 600EX RT II. I'm trying to use the Godox X1T-c trigger and a Godox Xpro transmitter. But I can't get it to connect to my speed light. It's not firing off.
3:37 That's odd. I see other reviews where the settings are passed on to the flash unit without the need to press the Set button. I presume it's because you're using the receiver and not a native Godox flash unit?
I just got mine in today and tried it with my Godox flash. You can actually shoot with the group highlighted, and it will indeed use the new settings even though the "set" button was not pressed. I think I actually prefer it this way so I can try different settings without having to keep going back and selecting the group each time. Then, when I get the setting dialed in where I want it, I can push the set button at that point and fire away. By the way, thanks for the video!!

Quick question: I bought a Godox 200 pro for my Canon camera. The trigger is for Canon. If I want to use it with a Nikon camera, will purchasing a Nikon trigger work with the original pocket Flash Kit or do I have to buy another one?
Hi Phil, i got one question regarding Yongnuo flashes. Is it possible to trigg the YN 560iii, YN 560 IV and YN 968 with the Xpro, but without the X1R on the YN flashes? I thougt they have the same Frequenz (2,4GHZ). I tried it in the manual mode, but it doesnt work.
Does this system allow the flashes to go into sleep mode , when using them in camera trapping in the wild for weeks , so the batteries in the Speedlite don’t dead ,or are they in the always on . Good video
Hi Jean, With a Canon flash you need the Godox receiver attached. With a Godox flash you don't need it because it has a built-in receiver that works with the Godox transmitter.

Thanks for the report, Jim. Sounds like maybe something doesn't quite work with the older generation flashes.
Well done. Great refresher!
Great video, very intuitive and precise instructions.
From Italy a many thanks, grate explanation even if i am using xproN on my z6 and SB700. I will follow your web site. Thanks again.
excellent video. Unfortunately, I agree with your statement concerning older canon speedlights. I have the canon 430 ex...will have to get a canon 580 ex ii...
Have you noticed any issues with it caused by the rechargeable batteries? (besides the battery indicator). It's 'because I'm planning to use it only with rechargeable AA batteries.
great, clear and concise. Thank you.
Weird
Good informative video. But does the XPro work as it should with a Canon 90D. The X1T C does not. Thanks M
That was awesome. Great job. Keep it up.
Excellent- thank you for your efforts!!
Hello well explained Thanks. But I have a Godox trigger but it's called reemix. The transmitter comes with flash, B and camera. It's have no off button like the receiver. Some it doesn't respond when I shoot. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks. Its the best video talking about this RT. Thanks again
great video man, thank you
Can you do a updated of this video because you didnt explain how to use from power on
Awesome … I can not get the trigger to change to TTL from M. I only have 2 options M or off? Any suggestions would be appreciated
Great explanation for this item. Very well said👌
I have a Canon 6D mark ii and a Canon 600EX RT II. I'm trying to use the Godox X1T-c trigger and a Godox Xpro transmitter. But I can't get it to connect to my speed light. It's not firing off.
With the cam on tripod. How do I setup the X1 Pro C and X1 receiver to paint with flash? Triggering from flash syncing camera?
Thanks! I'd love to find a way to utilize the X-Pro-C with a remote base powering an old Vivitar 285HV. What bases would be compatible?
Very essay to understand and informative tutorial
Am i correct in saying that you HAVE to have a godox receiver on your flash even if it has a receiver built in?
Not if it is a Godox flash. The xPro will work on all Godox X flashes and strobes.

That's odd.
Hi Steel I was going through your courses and in contact section there is place to email a question.
how long will be the courses be open after purchase.is it for a year?please kindly clarify. It is a bit disappointing that i could not contact with the contact icon! But your courses are all looking great!
Courses are yours forever after you buy them.
Quick question: I bought a Godox 200 pro for my Canon camera. The trigger is for Canon. If I want to use it with a Nikon camera, will purchasing a Nikon trigger work with the original pocket Flash Kit or do I have to buy another one?
I use it for my Godox Ad400 and Ad200 strobes, not with speedlights
This was my question! Thanks!
Since the Canon speedlite 430EX III-RT can also be used as a slave, can the Godox xpro trigger it without the need of the Godox receiver?
Does this system allow the flashes to go into sleep mode , when using them in camera trapping in the wild for weeks , so the batteries in the Speedlite don’t dead ,or are they in the always on . Good video
Thanks for the video. Can I ask if I really need the receiver to use the canon flash? The transmitter won’t work without the receiver? Thanks.
Hi Jean, With a Canon flash you need the Godox receiver attached. With a Godox flash you don't need it because it has a built-in receiver that works with the Godox transmitter.
@@steeletraining Thanks so much for your confirmation!!
I Have Godox XPro-N transmitter for Nikon and I'm trying to see if it will work with a Canon flash that I have, using the X1R-C receiver for Canon
Does the Godox trigger and receiver work with Neewer flash units or only with original Nikon, canon, etc.. flashes
