So true- it is a disgrace. Developers and certain types of people with extra money think they have the right to do whatever they want. They knocked down Betty whites house and destroyed Cielo drive. Knocked down the house of blues on sunset blvd! They could’ve put a memorial park on Cielo dedicated to the victims but yet some ahole producer destroyed the land with some oversized tacky eyesore.

It's disgusting and it's happening everywhere. A beautiful home on a bluff overlooking a bay was just torn down near me. It dated to the 20s, needed some work but it was more than structurally sound enough to refurbish. All those gulf hurricanes it survived just to be bulldozed by some asshat that just moved to the area so he can build some gawd mansion.

LA has a seriously nasty history tearing down old homes and buildings of historical relevance. A great example was the guy who torched the Pan Pacific Auditorium. Allegedly he did it because he wanted to sell the land for condos to be developed there. You all would recognize the building as it was the nightclub in the movie Xanadu. It was also briefly featured in the Barbra Streisand film, Funny Lady. The building was a true example of art deco. The sloping spindles were magnificent and the whole roundness of the building was built of solid quality and class. The fire happened in the late 80s and its shell stood there for years before the city finally had it torn down. Now it’s a park that’s called Pan Pacific park, which has the building spindles as it logo for signage. A far cry from the majestic beauty of the original building that used to be there. Sad.

I fully believe Beverly Hills city would’ve torn down Graystone Manor if it didn’t have a reservoir on the property. Than mansion is another gorgeous reminder of a bygone era in Los Angeles. Like the Mansfield Garbor tunnel there’s supposed to be one from Graystone that goes all the way to Santa Monica Blvd from the old Prohibition days. I’ve never seen it but the park rangers talk about it when you tour the mansion.

Tearing down old buildings, homes, landmarks seems to be going on everywhere. Our city started back in the 70’s and they called it urban development. So many sturdy structures destroyed. Some of them needed work. Finally years later they stopped tearing them down but so much of the damage was done. Some of the buildings get reprieved because historians say the buildings are historical and it gives people time to get funds to hopefully refurbish the property. They definitely don’t make buildings like the old ones. I would feel so much safer in a house that’s been around for a long time compared to the ones built recently. Just like cars the old cars were made out of metal not fiberglass like new ones. Thanks Scott another interesting experience that a lot of people like myself would never get to see because lack of funds in this chaotic government today. Great knowledge like always.

@@ridingtheroad185 who says she doesn't? Who knows if the property was even offered to her by Humperdinck? Growing up in that crazy life she may want NOTHING to do with that part of her life! When the house was last sold her daughter was a HUGE celebrity in her own right and money def wasn't an issue for she's worth 100 million today, I would guess she was worth at least 10 million 20 years ago? You have to remove the celebrity provenance from the gates, that's what makes them desirable not the "craftmanship" or materials used! To Mariska she was just mom and those gates are just that...gates! Would you want the old discarded gate to your moms house where you grew up as a child where you lived a tumultuous childhood? What would you do with it? Why would you want it? I'm sure Mariska has better keepsakes and heirlooms than a rusty old gate!

I think that's for professional film making as opposed to hobbist drones which say it's only a $5 permit. In LA they mention you can't do it over private property, but if it was small enough & you just did it on boundary lines I'm sure you wouldn't get in trouble.

The Pink Palace has long served as Home decor inspiration to me. The images of that Home and its abundance of Pink are permanently embedded within the confines of my mind. I am now a Homeowner as a young woman, living alone. I am decorating in much the same HYPER-FEMININE manner as Jayne Mansfield preferred. Why not? I possess the autonomy to do so!🖤

Weird that this popped up today.
I'm not a film buff and barely knew who Miss Mansfield was, but knew my uncle was working for Rank Organisation and had shown her around the southern UK when she was over to promote a film . Only yesterday, going through my late mother's things, I found a packet of photos of his that she had saved and there are three of him with Jayne Mansfield among them. Uncle Roland would be 104 years old now and died in his late 80s. There was a signed, topless photo of her once, but I think my somewhat prudish mother must have burned it. He showed me it once when I was young and Mum was horrified.

Your video brings out so many diverse emotions, especially for us older folks. Many of us can recall once momentous details concerning their lives that are meaningless today, but in their day they were significant events. How can it all be gone? We are nothing in the long or short scheme of things; not long after we are gone, so are our most important accomplishments and possessions. (Edit: It just struck me that those gates were in remarkably good condition for being so old! Maybe I'm just getting used to the junk they produce today so the well-built things of my youth seem less real.)

We visited Spahn Ranch and had lunch at El Coyote and visited Marilyn Monroe’s house that summer. I’m glad you purchased the Mansfield car and have kept Jayne Mansfield’s story relevant. You’ve done a great job of keeping the good, the bad, and the beautiful of Hollywood alive for younger generations and boomers like myself. And the tragic stories of Jayne, Marilyn, and Sharon shouldn’t be forgotten. Their lives had meaning and they made people happy.

People don't like nor appreciate history anymore, including art, which movies are. They're way too smug for history, and think the only time that matters is NOW! That is why you see a lot of comments on older movies where people complain that it's "dated," which is st*pid! Case in point: the possible destruction of Marilyn Monroe's last home. Why would anyone want to tear that down? Why, because it's "dated?" What next, Hearst Castle? Paramount Studios?

It was a piece of Hollywood history, all torn down for “progress.” But what’s also sad is Mickey Hargitay was the best part of Jayne Mansfield’s life.
