Sad ending for a beautiful lady. My neighbor offed himself because he was so far behind on his bills. We noticed that his car had not moved for three days and he had a beautiful German Shepherd that hated everyone except a few of us neighbors ( like me) his brother had promised to take care of her if something ever happened to my neighbor and he lied and left her at the shelter so I went and picked her up and we had her for several years until her death. I hope my neighbor knew that we loved his dog and that they are together again. Always keep an eye on your neighbors and loved ones.
So nice of you to care for his dog. It's people like you that make this world worth living in.

What a beautiful thing for you to do. Poor dog had trauma of losing his owner/father then abandoned. I am sure the man knew what you had done for his dog. ❤❤❤
The way she ended up is exactly the reason I call my mom every day since my dad died 11 years ago. We check in, I know she is okay, and all is well. I have her next door neighbor's number, and they have a key to her house, so if I am ever concerned, I can ask them to pop over and check on her. This will not happen to my mom!

Yvette was in Arthur 2 on the rocks starring Dudley Roger Moore, she said that you get there at noon and then we will be there around the barn of Glen Tennis from "Grum"
I hear that. The minute my marriage failed I moved me and my daughter in with my widowed elderly mother. Thankfully I did. Saved her life early last year. She's not getting out of here that easily..
I too called my Mom every day after my Father passed. If I didn't get an answer I went as fast as I could to her house, sometimes leaving work to do so. Fortunately, she was always ok. She did pass 16 years after my Father. I miss her every day.
I've read accounts of people who were friendly with her and kept in touch with her. They said she was a very sweet, lovely person with a great sense of humor but towards the end she got very paranoid and cut off contact with all her friends. A very very sad story.

@@shirleypena4133 They would call her number and she either wouldn't answer or they would find the number was changed or disconnected. I can't remember if she had e-mail or not. There's only so many times you can call or email or write a friend and be ignored.

Thank you Scott. Yes, Benedict Canyon has had a lot of weird things happen. I remember a boy saying 'trust me' on Benedict Canyon. Never trust a boy who says Trust Me. She was very pretty and that laugh was great. Her walk down the stairs in a blue dress was something special. Rest in peace Yvette.
Idk anything about Benedict canyon but when he said the words , I heard "ancient curse". No one should live there.
Aw it's cool she won't be forgotten because of her belongings you have:) I'd be like 'Hmm where's my Yvette Vickers measuring tape, Thanks Yvette!'. This is one of those really sad stories that ramps up my fear of dying alone, like no one checked for her:( xo

@@Franniiv3 she had a brother and other distant relatives I believe....and who cares? It's robbing crap to show other people.. it's distasteful and that's my opinion.
One of my sisters-in-law was found like Yvette. The neighbors noticed deliveries stacking up next to the door of her condo. She was found on her bed, as if she was trying to reach for her medication and probably suffered a heart attack. The neighbors also noticed a foul odor coming from her condo as well.
I noticed a very strong odor coming from a former neighbor - who was not even there a year. I thought that they were taking quite some time to throw bad meat out! I also saw what looked like eviction papers stuffed between the door handle. The smell went on for days. I was going through leaving, but I would bet what it was...
Things like autopay, home delivery services, and social media really isolates people. I expect there to be ALOT more of this.

There was a 38 year old woman in London, Joyce Carol Vincent, who died unnoticed in her bedsit (studio apartment) for 3 years. It was only after her bills started piling up (she lived in council sponsored housing) and a constable came to her flat, to collect money. When they found her skeletal remains, the TV was still on, & there were Christmas presents she had been wrapping. No pathology tests could be done, due to the decomposition.
Her story was made into a documentary, Dreams of a Life, in 2011. She was a beautiful woman, that had aspired to be a singer, & had a glamorous social circle. Another real mystery, how she fell through the cracks, & had such a tragic ending. 😢
That doesnt make sense.How can a tv still be on? If you dont pay your bill, the power is shut off.And uncollected mail would have raised alarm bells.I dont see how it is possible for a person to be dead for yrs and no one notices!
I remember hearing about that lady. How sad. Why didn’t anyone check in her for 3 years? She must’ve had friends or family if she was wrapping gifts when she died. Tragic.

She literally became part of the couch she died on. There r pics of it floating around. Extremely sad. R. I. P.
@@Tempe1962: I saw a similar documentary and the lady had automatic payment. Yup, the tv was on. She had a decent bank account that did not deplete even after discovering her.
How sad. She was obviously a very private person and like it that way, but then that backfired in a serious case like this

Just because they didn’t decompose there doesn’t mean anything and those items don’t have decomposing material on them, they’re not contaminated by anything.

Thank you for sharing. My husband’s uncle was a hoarder and died in the family home in 2015, he was gone a week, the neighbor contacted the police for a welfare check. It was one of the worse hoarding scenes according to the Fresno Fire Department. They had to knock a wall down to get to his remains.

My uncle and grandmother were hoarders. I had to stay at my grand mother's for a month every summer. In Florida. My mother who was not a hoarder would get in fights with my grandmother over turning on the ac. She would also try to clean up the hoard. I got scolded for asking why Nannie would not clean her house. I was 6. I am also the truth teller in the family. I also did not have children because I was afraid it was genetic. It is! My brother shows tendencies. He never cleaned his room. It was disgusting.
All that stuff.....for nothing.
I never forgot seeing Yvette in “Attack of the 50-foot Woman” on TV when I was a child. I thought that she was so beautiful and exotic-looking in her figure-hugging striped dress. R.I.P., Yvette.

I'm 74 years-old and I remember Ms. Vickers well. I didn't know she had passed away, and wondered why she kind of 'disappeared' from the public eye.
There is a semi-famous case of someone in London UK who died in very similar circumstances BUT she wasn't found for several years before anyone noticed. Her bills were being paid automatically, she was distant from family and neighbours as well. It can happen to anyone anywhere 🤷♂️
There was an odd show about this one.
It was really sad they were simply forgotten.
They went undiscovered for years!

This is why it’s important to have someone you can trust checking up on you if you live alone . Widows and widowers sometimes end up like this . I had an aunt that no one could get along with , including her sister, my mom . She had her gall bladder removed . Complications developed from that surgery . She had a blood clot that went to her heart , killing her. Her landlord didn’t find the body for 5 weeks after she died . Terrible ….
So if you’re the type that is like my deceased aunt , try to get along with at least another . Her landlord went over there only because the rent was over due by a week . And she had always paid her bills on time . My mom went to her own grave never forgiving herself with the difficulties she had with her sister . There were 7 siblings in her family . All 7 had remorse over this .
It is so sad that we never think of these things until it is too late to do anything about them. I am sorry to hear of your mom and her siblings. I've just started to get along with my twin sister after we lost our younger sister to cancer in 2020. I always have a fear of dying alone and not being found. Hopefully someone will check on me and others out there that feel like I do.

My mom, herself died with a lot of regrets . I live my life now , doing things that I’ll never regret .

It's sad how some people just fall through the cracks and end up dieing alone like that. I know someone who had substance abuse problems and ended up either alienating or pushing away everyone in his life. He died in his bed in his apartment and was there for almost a month before someone finally decided to check up on him. It happens more than we probably realize which really is sad.
I remember Yvette Vickers from the movie "Hud." She played "Mrs. Truman Peters," a married girlfriend of Hud Bannon (played by Paul Newman). She was on screen for just a few moments, but I do remember her. I'm very sad such a lovely lady had such a sad end.
Hi, Scott! The condition of the house would have changed significantly from 2011 to 2023 having been abandoned. I would think someone would have bought it by now and replaced it with new construction. And, with rats having undisturbed access for 6 months with a deceased body, one can conclude that much of the missing and dislocated parts were consumed/moved by their activity. Poor lady.

For some reason, the trees growing through the house looked scarier than the thought of webs, rats and mold.

What an incredibly horrible way to go - no one around to save you and melt into the floor.. gruesome and very sad. May she rest in eternal peace in the arms of The Almighty.
My biological father, whom I barely knew, died like that. He had a heart attack in front of the open oven during the summer. No one knew that he had died until the people in the apartment below him had issues with their ceiling. My brother, who did have a relationship with him, had to clean out the apartment and still has PTSD from the whole experience.

Have you read Weird Scenes- Inside The Canyon by David McGowan? It's about Laurel Canyon, not Benedict Canyon. Those canyons were all basically the same BITD. A lot of really weird things were going on back in the 60s.

What's strange is my grandparents had the same string of bells. When my grandmother passed I snatched the bells. They now adorn my front door and always will.

It is sad that she laid there alone for so long, but going with the house she loved probably is how she wanted it. Our body returns to the earth unless cremated at some point.I just hope she went quickly and didn't lay there suffering before passing.
Please pray for me and tell me that I do not have to end up like her. As it turns out, her home was as dilapidated and as uncared for as much as she was.

Thanks Scott. At first I thought what a sad story, then I thought well, she lived how she wanted to, quiet and undisturbed. There was food in the house, so she hadn't starved. There had been drink, so she was doing exactly what she wanted. So god bless, hope she was happy.

It was good of her neighbor to try to find out if she was ok. I hope you have her bells out somewhere because remember Scott, whenever a bell rings an angel gets it wings.

My Uncle was found in the home after a week after suffering a fatal heart attack. My Dad called him multiple times, but left it alone because my Uncle was a very private individual and unfortunately, a hoarder. It wasn’t until my parents saw mail piling up and cobwebs on the box that they called the police. The police went through the back door to go inside and once the smell hit my parent’s noses, they knew he was gone. Thankfully, they didn’t see the body. They only provided an ID card to the officers because they had trouble IDing the body. The stove was on underneath a kettle because he was making tea. Being on for a week, the stove burned right into the metal of that kettle causing a big black spot. The kettle saved the house from burning down. I live there to this day. The home is now clean and modern. Despite the fact that he passed away inside, I feel it’s a wonderful home.
The story of Yvette Vickers came up in my mind after the mailbox part. But thankfully he was found only a week later.
Thank you Scott for bringing to light this very sad story. It is just hard to believe that at one time she had a lot and when she passed she was living in little more than a shed. Perhaps she was happy that way though, but no one should ever have to live like this. May she rest in peace.
She probably never thought her life would go down the way it did.... People get older & they DO change. Then stuff like this happens.

Her home was as dilapidated and uncared for us she was. Whew! What a way to go. Nobody even bothered to stop by her home or call her for months at a time.
If I could ask you to pray for me to not end up like that would you do it?
When people become senior aged, their body moves less as time goes by. With her living by herself, she was not able to keep up with much in or around the house. It is also possible that she did not have money to hire people to do it for her. Maybe she was too paranoid to let people in or around her house to do the needed work.
It’s crazy when you think about it, but I’ve done work in a couple houses where people had died, and laid there for awhile before being found. One house had a fairly good silhouette of a body, stained into the hardwood floor.
She was so beautiful. I can understand her privacy - she was in one of those classic cult films. She probably had some run ins with fans invading her privacy. People probably remember Jim Hutton, father of Timothy, but he had a long relationship with her until he died in 1979.
...plus the Tate/LaBianca murders in '60/'70s probably scarred her with fear for decades.

That old Playboy pic of Yvette lounging on the steps by her front door, and the more recent one of the same door is fascinating to me, too, because I love visiting old movie/TV locations to see what they look like now..

If you look at her topless pictures on Google images, you'll notice most of them are taken on her property and can match them up. There is one of her sitting on the outside steps of her side door, along with one inside her house standing on steps and with Google Street view you can see the foundation remnants of the same steps where she was standing in the photo.
Another great video Scott... fame is fleeting. There are so many actresses you see in cool, obscure or B movies that you go... whatever happened to him or her. Sometimes the stories are wild or really odd... this is one of those.

Very interesting video. @17:00 approximately: As you were searching for the word(s) describing what the inside of Miss Vickers' house looked like and just before you uttered that very word, I thought "desolate". How synchronistic. I have and have had people in my life who might end up like this. I deeply believe in an afterlife and can only hope that Yvette is settled, comforted and knows that she is loved.

Unfortunately, many elderly who live alone die and aren't found for days and sometimes weeks. It's so sad she didn't have anyone to check on her regularly. Once you reach a certain age and don't get out and exercise enough your muscles become too weak to really do much so I'm not shocked that her home went downhill. If she wouldn't allow anyone to visit and became paranoid it's not surprising she died alone and found in that state but it is truly sad and heartbreaking to think someone so lovely and full of life in her younger years died in such a manner.
She was so beautiful when she was young, such a sad was for someone to go, just left and forgotten.

I just saw an interview with Yvette yesterday here on TH-cam. Admittedly, I only knew her from a Roger Corman movie that Yvette did in 1959, that showed up in an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Evidently she did work for animal rights and the homeless. None of us are here permanently. 😢

Of course she was not giving her mail she had a hold order. It was not up to the mail carrier to override her orders.
Like Scott said, she put her mail on hold quite often. The mailman DID leave her a note when he saw it piling up. This story is actually an excellent example of how good humanity can be - Yvette was a recluse that actively shunned people, yet Susan Savage cared enough to go see what was wrong.
Wonder how many times she delt with a stalker in her younger years. Might have been what drove her to be a recluse. RIP

Scott, Yvette's story was quite tragic! She was probably stalked, and men harrassed her, which was why she isolated herself. No one should live that way. Everyone's mental health; should be checked on!

I looked at a google image search for her and found many photos she had taken in the house in Benedict Canyon when it was in much better shape . Apparently she had a long term relationship with Timothy Hutton and Cary Grant . She must have bought that house early on when real estate was still affordable . She was married 3 times - I don't think she had any children - at least she didn't wind up in some sleazy motel on a sagging mattress. So sad she wound up dying alone and forgotten - that's Hollywood.

That was once a cozy house. So sad she and the house came to a tragic end.

This is SO sad to me. Yvette's story was the first time I remember hearing someone dying alone and being found considerably later, that is where my fear of it came from. Even though I have renters in my home that live with me, it still terrifies me.
This was absolutely fascinating. What happened to her remains? Obviously, she had to be cremated but who/where are her ashes?

Silence from any person should be louder then any words ever spoken . I understand wanting to be left alone and the feelings that she felt with her life choices , she probably cried a lot and drowned herself at times in the bottom of a bottle like most women do who really don't have anyone to talk to or feel like they are loved. Trusting someone or anyone was and still is a dangerous endeavor. I hope that her soul is at peace now.

Oh God, that's just horrible!!! Living in that squalor..... eek!!! Just a morbid situation! Poor soul, can't believe that she let herself go to those extremes living like that!! Well, you showed some beautiful pics of her in her youth...she was an absolute beauty!!! The moral of this story is definitely a wake-up call!! Have your affairs in order....NO EXCUSES!! It is very important to arrange welfare checks for your well-being SO AS THIS NIGHTMARE DOES NOT HAPPEN TO YOU!!! Have a great night everyone!!!

Having tried living alone in a house, all kinds of men knock on your door at midnight. Finding gardeners, helpers is a nightmare. If you do find someone, they just vaporize. Offering a free room in return for mowing, trash out was a disaster. I finally lucked into a high-security condo, and a very decent Bangladeshi man, whom the government pays $700./month for my care. He has a key, is utterly dependable after three years.
Natalie, what he’s saying is to downsize, sell, discard, clean up, relocate WHILE YOU ARE STILL UPRIGHT. I never dreamed I’d end up in a wheelchair, with serious health problems. Only by some miracle did I get with a Realtor. Teams came in to empty out the upstairs; there was no looking stuff over. He got me into a great condo in a nice area. But I should’ve been ready to go at the time of my last relative’s demise!
