    RV builds, components, and the labor have all taken a nose dive the last twenty years. Fueling that the last 4 years wss the covid spike which drove the prices through the roof. I retired January 2020 and originally had planned on buying a used high end class B to travel and off road camp. That idea went to hell that spring. Plan B was to build out our 2005 Suburban into a camper. Put about 5 K into solar, fridge, heater, and other components. Used it for 3 years and visited 49 US states and all but 2 provinces in Canada. Put 85 thousand miles on it during that period and have no regrets.

      Now that sounds like awesome trip! I truck camp some but I’m not as limber as I use to be. Glad plan B worked.

    I've been to the Adirondacks probably six times now, including the years before AND after the Olympics at Lake Placid. Then, once for an AWESOME camping trip with my brother and good buddy which was forty years ago. We hiked in and rented a canoe rowed about a couple miles out and camped on an island for three or four days. NO ONE else was around and it was beyond gorgeous. Also, two or three family reunions took place at my cousin and her husband's property up near Newcomb. JUST God's country up there. The last time I was there was at Rydin Hi ":Dude Ranch" Resort up in that area. Just unbelievably gorgeous country. I know that doesn't have much to do with this video, but I saw your shirt and figured you are up in that area and I wanted to say that. Great video man. From Cleveland but originally from Buffalo. Have a great weekend.

      Yes, my channel is mostly about the Adirondacks…..and this video was at my favorite free site. I was raised in the northwest corner of the ADK. Awesome to read your story here….thanks for watching….hopefully you can get back up here someday…….and GO BILLS!

    I really like to look online at trailers. I would need to buy a new truck or whatever tow vehicle necessary bc now I only have a Subaru w no tow capacity. So yes these prices are completely insane. A setup for me would be like buying a small house and I don’t want to bring that type of debt into my life right now for all the low quality, warranty and maintenance issues I keep learning about. I don’t want that kind of headache. I will keep using my tents and cots no problem. I appreciate your insights on the industry. Right now I’m saving up for my next “vehicle”: an Eddyline Sandpiper!!! I appreciate all your videos on that kayak as well. Tent + kayak = happiness!!! And I can go anywhere I want.

      Tents and cots are just fine…..I still have my tent and a cot for truck camping! But mostly it just getting out there that brings happiness!

    In November I bought a small (used) Winnebago from a local dealer. The asking price was $16,500 I offered $14,000 OTD. They said no and I walked away. A week later they called and asked if I was still interested. I got it for $14,000 OTD. Just like a car I always make my offer OTD. That way they can't come back with those addons. This makes them juggle the figures in the middle to come up with the OTD I offered which is the only number important to me. It has worked for me every time.

      Excellent, you must be willing to walk away and stay away! They know most will come back in once a salesman hasn’t came running after them. Glad it worked out, enjoy your adventures.

    I agree ADK man. researching for a year. costs, materials and craftsmanship very disturbing. going with a 2008 born free built for two, low low milage and mint condition, but the quality and craftsmanship is outstanding. 40K. In NC, dealer informs me some bankruptcy hitting industry,they have lowered some prices! think it might be good if it forces quality and pricing to improve. warranties would be a whole separate video for you.hope i made a good choice. lake george nice area. thinking 2 or 3 k for a solar lithium battery upgrade otherwise rig is like new. thanks for you videos, insights and sharing your experience.

    • @ADKMan
      @ADKMan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Coming out of 2008 crisis, the RV industry improved quality quite a bit and held it until about 2019…..then it went downhill. Prices in 2020-2022 were high because demand was high but now that sales have dropped dramatically but these dealers want to hang on to those high prices…..without the demand they can’t and those that don’t adjust will be hurt the most. Enjoy your rig, solar is a great idea, love mine but again that is an area you get what you pay for.

    Great video thank you. I have a few health issues so I was thinking of a rv this year (tent camping is getting a little hard for me) . I think the rv idea is out maybe camping as well.

      Don’t get discouraged, there are deals to be found……maybe not from a big dealer….but the mom & pop dealers. They have better pricing and will work to get you to be a return customer!! The biggest draw back on these rigs is that they depreciate rather quickly, so if taking out a loan you’re almost immediately upside down. RV’s are fun but does require preventative maintenance. If Buying used there are deals from folks wanting to get out of their loan or a rig that may need a little work. Just take your time and learn what to look for when buying used……a lot of good videos on TH-cam.

    Started following your channel recently and really been enjoying it. Keep up the videos.
    Obviously from my channel I've explored the ADK a little differently in the past and FINALLY decided on a trailer. I definately over paid and feel like the trailer was "worth" about 5 to 10k less than what I paid. But I didn't want to go with a traditional RV for multiple reasons and the quality control you mentioned here was the number 1 reason. I didn't want to buy problems. So hopefully the extra price I paid will mean less worries, and fixing, and more enjoyment instead.
    We shall see. But man the prices were a tough pill to swallow and to your point......I feel crazy for even purchasing something. I guess after 3 years of looking around I finally just got worn down.

    • @ADKMan
      @ADKMan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don’t feel crazy! I mean the prices are nuts but if you use it and love getting out…..than life is short, enjoy it. The biggest thing with RV’s is preventative maintenance….its really if you take care of it…..it’ll take care of you!! Thanks for watching!

    When I wanted to get a camper I did my research and it was clear to me that I wanted to avoid the large RV industry for the same reasons you are talking about in this video. I was looking for a small camper so maybe not everyone could do what I did, but I bought from a small manufacturer from Wisconsin, a Camp Inn model 550. You can’t get a better built camper. I’ve had it a year and loving it. 😊

      Glad you found a rig you love….I love my RV and just enjoy getting out. RV manufacturers and dealer are and will be facing problems. Those that adjust will survive.

    The market is flooded with "c" campers that ppl won't touch because the shotty builds .. us that have been in the camping game along time know better.. 6.6 million new campers during that time.. we call them the 6.6er's... you can tell them from the ones that know what's up.. Happy camping

      RV’ing is great and manufacturers will have to get quality under control or risk losing sales. Dealers need to come back to earth.
