I have to say, I’ve watched three videos of yours now the past two nights. I am a brand new beginner and looking at RVs at the local RV show. I really respect how informative you are and the time you take out of your day to educate people on what to do. I would’ve never thought of any of these things if it wasn’t for you. It blows my mind how many people ask about turning the RV around. So many clueless people. Thank you so much for the videos I will subscribe and continue watching on a regular basis before even purchasing a RV!

Seems the poster is just backwards because they like to use the neighbors fire pit, and likely is level if parked correctly. Almost none of these are must haves for us. We travel in the day and park long before dark, and have AAA RV. Normal supplies are all you need. The rest is for those who need to spend money on the latest gear. Except for the floor mat. That is the only “must have”.

Another item worth having is a sewer hose support. We went camping in Florida and they had an unexpected freeze. Our sewer hose had water sitting in it and it froze. The sewer hose support, when installed properly, guarantees your hose will drain so no freezing will occur.

Great video with lots of good advice! One thing I might add... we found out the hard way when our travel trailer blew a tire on the road. Changing the tire on a busy road at night was a rough experience. We used the jack from the tow vehicle, which was terrible! Worse, the lug nuts on the camper were a different size than our vehicle, so the wrench did not fit. I luckily had a socket set and a metal pipe to get enough leverage to loosen the lug nuts, but it was touch and go for a while. First thing I did the next day was purchase a breaker bar with the proper size fit, and a compact bottle jack. The place we stopped to buy the replacement tire installed it on the rim, but would not put it back on the trailer. Using the new tools made the job so much easier, and they are a must have to have on hand with your roadside emergency kit!

The sewer and utility pole are on the correct side. For some reason, you didn’t back into the site like you’re supposed to. Just move the table and fire ring if you really have to, but they aren’t close enough where it makes any difference how your RV is parked. Also, your water filter should be the first thing connected to the water source after the regulator to avoid all that junk water going through your hose. Oh, and always use rubber chocks since those plastic ones are junk. Other than that, some good info and I love those chairs, thank you!

We certainly could've backed into our spot but then our door would've been facing the road vs facing our campsite where our picnic table and fire ring etc was. We preferred pulling in and that was ok cause we had enough RV gear to make it work. So glad you like some of the camping gear we love! Definitely makes our camping trips way more comfortable. Hi Debbie,
Thanks for sharing your experience but have you ever considered the fact that just because you haven't stayed at a campsite where the hookups are on the wrong side doesn't mean they don't exist? Because they do!
Look more closely... if we backed in to the site the side door of our RV would not be facing the main part of our campsite where the picnic table and fire ring are located. Maybe I didn’t explain that well enough in the video…
And - you should be more open minded...

@@chiclet1052 Well considering that there were tall weeds and brush on that side of the camper that was not an option.
Are you really unable to see that the hookups are on the wrong side of the campsite?

Here is my tip... Learn to do your own RV maintenance and use a good car maintenance management program ( I use Automotive Wolf car care software ) to track and monitor it all. It also tracks all my parts, expenses and creates a detailed vehicle maintenance log. After RV'ing for over 10 years I've saved thousands by doing most of the maintenance myself and there is a lot of it on an RV! A small roof leak can cost you thousands in repairs so I check my roof at least twice a year. Keep on top of the maintenance and you'll save money and be RV'ing for years :)

Never saw a reason to buy RV/Boat toilet paper or chemicals. We dumped frequently. Never had any luck with the tank cleaner connection on the drain; found it easier to run a hose in the window and fill the tank from the toilet bowl to give it a thorough rinse. Also added some Dawn dish soap and water softener to the tanks to help keep them clean.

Ya know, I've been scouring these RV / van / road & offroad adventure tubes for about 20 years now - always looking for tips from fellow adventurers to help streamline our journeys.
Mike, you and your lovely wife Susan, in 20 minutes, put together one of the most thorough, finest lists of products and tips of wisdom I have ever come across here.
And you presented it like a friend who was just there to help us along with your accumulation of best practices...
No agendas - just honest help that could have saved us thousand$ over our 30 years of travels.
For the first time in ages, I was busy taking notes and pausing to share your specifics with my band of gypsies here.
Thank you so much for the great links on how to set up & break down your camp, for the checklists, for the magazine, for the easy way you present, for the giggles from your wife when you blooped...
You've made me have respect in YT once again (so burned out on all the click-bait & fluff over the years).
You have won-over a cynic and are now burdened with a truly loyal fan.
May the gods bless ALL involved with the production of this re-inspiring, fine piece of work here.
Now I guess I have to go swoon over the rest of your library of work now!
    Thanks man! ❤

Good stuff, surge protector, good water hose, a clear 45 or 90 on dicharge out of RV tanks, and a good heated hose, pressure regulator, wheel chalks, rino flex hose, I like a area rug, and chairs, I recommend keeping a extra stick of water pipe and cutter and about 25.00 worth of fittings for repairs, extra anodes, extra heater element, blue painters tape and ac tape very handy stuff, reflextic also, I keep extra switches also and a electric tester, and basic tools, inside I keep 3 electric heaters, and a humidifier, and dehumidifier, and a floor AC unit if needed, I only use dawn dish soap and calgon water softener for toilet "hands down the best" I cap dawn 2 caps calgon, I use Scotts RV paper wall mart, I have a big Berkey water filter, I keep a indoor outdoor thermometer inside and put the remote outside where the water comes in and monitor the coldest section of my rig for winter to see if I need to get heat in underbelly. The rest is all work and most important rule caulk is important cause water is your worst nightmare and protecting your electrical. When you pull in and park you use blocks on your side to side and your front to back with jacks. I have a fifth wheel. Best cleaning tool for shower magic eraser. And I dry the shower after every shower for longer lasting clean before mildew or scum. Don't be afraid to try and fix stuff you tube has alot of ideas to help to get started. I keep a 5 gallon bucket and a wash brush for the front cap after travel. Get bugs off asap. I suggest buy some inside Crocs or something comfey to wear inside and take shoes off at the door in my rig! I have a insta pot but I like a crock pot also. I carry a green mountain pellet smoker in my underbelly for BBQ love it. Safe travels

@@RVBlogger yea this makes no sense. Your awning and patio setup is now right on top of the sewer hookup. If you backed in it would be on the correct side. Who is setting up their makeshift patio over the fn sewer hookup? You are waisting money on the rv TP. There is a single ply charmin and a single ply Scott that work better than the expensive RV brands.

Agreed, panning in the video shows other vehicles backed in, which is the norm, and we looked front in here. ;) Also, the sewer hose is great, but one step on it and it'll bend the wire and keep it from cooling correctly. They are not indestructible.

Hi Mike. My wife and I just bought our first RV about two weeks ago. One of the very first things we ordered was the Rhino Blaster! It just makes sense that positive pressure is the best way to clean the tanks instead of just gravity feed. As always, great video! I have been glued to your videos for days now as I am trying to learn all I can before we move cross country in our RV with my 91-year old dad, two cats, and a dog. I'm looking forward to the trip but I don't like surprises along the way that I'm not equipped to handle.

Are you serious, so your hookups decide which way you park because your too lazy to run a extention, too lazy to put a longer cord hookup on your rv,! Yes, we are in a very unusual way. I love these village idiot videos! Whoaaaa now, a little background I built campers for the first 4 years of going to college, and built custom homes for the last 2 years before becoming a engineer. The glamper mentality is pure comedy!

    • @LittlesBigsAdventures
      @LittlesBigsAdventures 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@offgridselfteliant We can certainly run an extension, but it’s always easier not to. Water/Electric is one thing, but it’s not ideal when sewer is involved. As Full Time RVers (not glampers) we’ll always make it work. But the hookup/camp side will always be a part of the conversation when deciding which way we park.

Hey There - thank you for such a thorough and thoughtful video. I’ve been RVing for over 30 years and I learned a thing or two so good job. I want to say two things,
First is try using the toilet paper that is made for septic systems. It’s fantastic to use in the RV, it breaks down very well and it feels close to the normal household type.
Second is - dont pay any attention to the naysayers and trolls that all think they know better than you about everything. For the life of me I don’t know why they even watch videos like this since they obviously know everything there is to know about everything lol.
I’ve camped in plenty of places that had the hookups on the wrong side for just about any RV that’s going to pull into that spot.
Again thank you for sharing your time and knowledge, I for one appreciate it. Peace be upon you

    • @RVBlogger

      Hi Prepperjon,
Thanks so much for the kind words and encouragement. I can't get over how many people were completely unable to figure out that the hookups were on the wrong side and then how rude some of their comments were. Susan wants to go back to that campsite and shoot a video to go over it again for people.
But we try to educate rather than get all upset or offended by it.
      We really appreciate your comment!
      Thanks again,

      Hi Kathleen,
It's our own fault...we didn't explain the campsite well enough and most people have never seen a campsite with hookups on the wrong side... and people say things on line they would never say to your face so we just take it all with a grain of salt. We are going to make a new Gear video and probably take this one down. Too many people are confused by it.

There is a lot of accessories and gadgets for RVing. When we purchased our travel trailer we bought all the necessities. Hoses, surge protector, water pressure regulator, levelers , chocks etc. The other stuff we decided to purchase if we really need it or makes our camping experience better. We got a couple of comfortable chairs and an camp rug. We already had some stuff from our tent camping days. I suggest that you don’t run out a buy a bunch of stuff you think you need and never use.

Totally enjoyed this video. As a plumbing contractor, just wanted to make 1 point about your comments about installing a pressure regulator. You said that before you had a regulator, you would just open the water supply a little bit to keep the pressure down. That will not lower the pressure. The static water pressure will still be the same, if it's opened all the way or just cracked open a bit. Only the volume of water that will flow thru the hose will be diminished. Other than that, a very solid list.

Enjoy your videos, disagree about one thing is the toilet paper. Septic safe toilet paper works just as good as Aqua safe and it much cheaper. Also your water filter should be at the source this way your hose stays clean and doesn't get contaminated.

You should always use a dielectric grease on the prongs of your electric cords especially if you are going to use an extension cord. The extra distance causes more power creating more heat and the dielectric grease will help prevent the heat from causing arcing and melting your plug ends.

Wow, I usually read the comments to learn a few more details. I only learned that people look for something to complain about. It amazes me that all quite a few people learned from this video is that according to them gyou should have backed in. Live life the way you want. If you don't want to walk around, then you don't need to!
I'm glad you parked your vehicle the way you did. It your camper; it isn't illegal. I hope you enjoyed your stay! And I added some things to my list. So your pressure regulator might be better served on the RV inlet side. A standard garden hose runs 13ish GPM. Your friction loss after 50' of hose is going to be roughly 7 psi (all hoses are different). So you're likely getting 33ish psi in the RV. Might not be a big deal to you. But I figured I'd mention it.
