I saw this lesson title and said, “Oh this is something I need!” and I see that I saw it 10 months ago. But I need to revisit it. Proves the same lesson is applicable at different stages of playing, as long as a GREAT teacher like Dan is doing the teaching ! Thank you Dan !
@@OnlineBassCourses Personally, I would love to see a walkthrough example of you learning a song by ear. Or tips on how to interact and align with other musicians in a live setting.
Well done! I m 67 and have been a bassist most of my life but some weird calling had me pick up keyboards starting in 2012 and yet I’m returning to bass, I am always very relaxed and happy and after putting bass down for a yea or two and can have most of my stuff back in a couple of days. I have found that It’s all about taking it slowly enough where you can play it perfectly and then increase the tempo. Too many times students are impatient or assume that they have to play at the speed of the demonstration. That’s with any instrument of course, but I was adding this to my bass game, and I just wanted to add that. You got this though you da man! Keep up the great work 😎🎶🎶🎶🎶
Thanks Dan..Great stuff indeed. I have your Creative Bass Technique, Funk & Motown exercise books and they are by far and away the most stimulating and enjoyable tutor books available. The TH-cam vids just add to your overall excellent teaching abilities, inspiring others like me to carry on playing.
Hi Dan! I was watching the video in slow motion as I am just beginning and there seems to be a difference between what you play and what is written in the Rocco bass line. It appears in the final part of the sixteenth notes where instead of playing two sevens or fours you play one seven or four and then three ghost notes, instead of two regular and two ghost notes. Dunno if you are going to see this comment but I wanted to point it out for future reference. PD: Rewatching it I realized with happens only with the first bar with the sevens, not with the fours.
A great thing to do! If you search on my page you’ll find a few lessons. If you sign up to my free newsletter, you get a free book with lots of harmonic chord shapes.
Thanks for the lesson, very helpful! One thing I can’t help but notice is how your slap ghost notes sound. How do you get that very muted sound without the loud tap from the string hitting the fret? Whenever I try to slap a ghost note, the sound I get is like 80% fret smack and 20% muted note. Yours sounds more like 95% muted note, and less than 5% fret related noise. I’ve tried listening to my own recording through a DAI, and also live through an amp, but I just can’t get your ghost notes.
It could be that you're hitting too hard. I don't know without seeing though. Try a lighter touch which might require a deeper focus on coordination. I tend to play quite light so it could be that...
Dan, I want more of this then I can die a happy man. Dan, I just inquired about the course. I can’t do this on a computer can you make it DVD and book?
I will make more! The course is only available to stream I’m afraid. It does come from a book which is paperback, Kindle, or PDF. There are links in the description. 🙏
Hi Dan. Been sitting on the fence regarding your paid courses but this one really hit the mark for me. Do you take the ghost note concept any further in your paid courses?
Thanks! Kind of - there’s quite a lot in the Funk Bass course because, well, they figure a lot in funk bass. It’s the same as this lesson really just with some cool funk bass lines.
Can you elaborate on getting that satisfying muted sound for the ghost note? I feel like mine feels thin and not as punchy- are you only applying pressure for a brief second?
Timing definitely matters. I’m using more than one finger as I mentioned. It could also be the bass, strings, EQ settings, or plucking intensity. The technique should remain roughly the same though. Do it a lot and you’ll get the touch required to make it sound good. Hope that helps.
Is this the start of a Halloween themed series of videos? Ghost notes... How about one on Vamps, perhaps Decomposition, and the notes E B G B 👻
I think this is probably the best comment I’ve ever seen. 10/10 🏆
Well done!

I wish I could get my slap as quiet and controlled as yours. I need to seriously shed in that area. Thanks for the great lesson!
You can do it! You’re aware of it so you can practice it slowly over time. You’ll get it.
Thanks for this video. I tended to mute the ghost note with only one finger and sometimes got a harmonic. Now I know where I went wrong.
I swear this guy uploads exactly what I need at the perfect time
In that case, what should I upload next??

Pretty sure I’m playing it how it’s written most of the time but happy to be corrected! I do sometimes improvise around a written line 🙏👍

Hi Dan. Did you ever have to play Rock steady - chuck Rainey. I’m struggling a bit with the b section when the horns come in. Any tips.
Love that song! I never played that bit exactly but I made something up around the chord progression. I’ll do a lesson on it soon…

Just a quick question, is this easier with low action?
Perhaps but it can sound better with higher action. Lower action might make it slightly easier but you might get a bit more fret noise. Try it though!
I love slap
