    I've been building these AWD vans for 16 years, had a couple dozen over that time, from 94's to the current 04 I'm driving now. Before removing a "bad" pump, check the ground to the frame first. It can save you the trouble of pulling the tank and changing a pump.

    I've owned 7 Astros and 1 Safari van. I can't tell you how many times I have been stranded when the FUEL PUMP goes out. 9 out of 10 times you get it the "turn over, but no start", replace the fuel pump. The last time I got stuck 7 miles deep in the forest on a mountain trail. Stay away from the AC Delco stock pump, and pay for a good pump and cut a hole in the floor so you don't have to drop the tank every time. AC Delco pumps like to go around once a year like clock work. Usually right after a complete fuel up.

    Smart !!!!! I recently did the samething but I went to the junkyard and cut out the same floorboard from another astro and it fit perfectly over my cut floorboard then I used 3/8 # 10 sheet metal screws I also put silicone around my cut hole before I installed my cover plate

    • @AutoMotivate
      @AutoMotivate  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Get yourself an OBD2 reader and see if the engine is reading the proper fuel trim levels. I could be a bad spyder injector gasket. I’d also double check the fuel pump and see if you are getting 55psi at the fuel lines.
      An easy test to see if you are getting spark is to bring the end of the spark plug connected to the wire to the block of the motor. There should be tiny shocks that appear.
      Every issue is trial and error. Without a bit of digging I, nor anyone else could help ya.

      @AutoMotivate  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!
      Im not certain of how long, but it does prime and make a noise for a bit then shuts off.
      Oddly enough, my fuel pump started to make a constant humming noise, but it’s performing just fine. May be on its way out.

    • @helgedell
      @helgedell 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Tempting to make a whole like you did, but might try carefully with a jigsaw (or your way). Not suicidal enough to use angle grinder as some other guys do :)
      It starts right up when I spray with starter spray in the air filter box, but stops when that is gone. Before it didnt start, it needed 5-10 seconds of grinding on the starter before it fired. Maybe a sign that pump was tired, or filter increasing clogging until it didnt start.

    That knocking diesel sound it made, usually happens when the timing is off. But if you don't hear it again after you get it running again, i guess you're in the clear.

    • @AutoMotivate
      @AutoMotivate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That noise definitely freaked me out. It even persisted later.
      I got a friend to help me diagnose the noise, and it is the catalytic converter causing those harsh noises.
      I guess when I first used the starter fluid that day, it shook the engine so hard that it broke up the catalytic converter..
      it’s in the todo list now 😂

    That Was 'Dieseling' caused by to much Starter fluid' It burns Longer and crazy easier than Gasoline' to help start it in the first place ' and burns long enough, that, if to much' is used ? it some times can still be burning past the Exaust valves ( pipe pop) or have enough residue in the intake runner' so to blow the intake valve open' out of time with the piston' trying to Force it down' causing massive engine shake 'ie, 'Dieseling'_ that can break things, as you unfortunately found out' (be very sparing with starter fluid' it shouldn't take much to get an answer) 😶👍 btw' those years of GM Ignition Modules are super sensitive to 'Over Moisture even super stormy 'Air Moisture' or heavey coastal fog! No joke' Been there! So Try '(compressed air, hair dryer' or replace' whatever works?) I just waited a day or so' didn't have to go anywhere at the time _ started fine after that _

    You should never have to cut wires for a direct OEM fuel pump install. That could be a recipe for disaster on a trip if your wiring comes undone or corrodes under moisture, bumps, etc. Those plugs are in a configuration for a reason by model / year. Any gas around wiring that could spark can set your vehicle on fire.

Sad thing is, it was running good before new parts >:( Don't figure... old plugs, cap/rotor were shot! I wonder if I got some bad gas? Maybe coil is going out? Why only when warmed up? Why only at idle? Wouldn't an arch happen all the time? Hmmmmmm Anyone feel free to chime in... I'm stumped
