Truck cut off 1/4 mile from work in the snow. Checked the ignition coil. No spark. Went to the fuse box. Blown 15A fuse off the relay. Worked a full day and made it home with no problem. Thanks. This video was key to troubleshooting.
My S10 fought in WW2 and during hand-to-hand combat with a 109 ft field-mouse that had a really interesting personality and a family back home with multiple hanging plot points heavily reliant on whether or not their dad returns home from the war...
Hands down one of, if not best video I have seen. It was informative, enjoyable, easy to comprehend. For a minute or so, actually thought I was right there hands on training. Thank you, look forward to checking out other videos..
Let me be the first to say: Dude! You did this so beautifully. Explain showed pointed out…the works. Damn man, just thank you dude. You’re a TH-cam hero 🤙🏽
Why didn't I watch this video 2 WEEKS ago???!!! I checked for spark and fuel but didn't think of distributor. Same symptoms so I am about to check that. I immediately subscribed and liked video. Thanks man!!!
I bought $300 worth of electrical parts only to find is actually was my distributor which i installed incorrectly. Then yesterday i re installed it and hit the jackpot. The timing has never been more smooth. My engine went from sounding like a dying moped, to a quiet running van. 😂🎉 Im so happy i got my van back.
Sir I want to thank you so much for you posting this video. My daughters truck was plagued with starting wont start.Followed your vid and now its fixed.Thank you again.God bless.
Thank you so much. The jumping over the starter relay was a huge help to me as I was working on it by myself. May be common knowledge for some, but I did not know it. I knew I had power and getting fuel, was pondering about checking for spark. I have this engine in a 1500 silverado. Turned out my d-cap cracked under one of the two screws and let in moisture. All posts were corroded and button burned out.
@7:30. Orange spark is weak and coil may be failing. Blue spark is strong and coil is okay. Color shows temperature of ionized air of the spark gap. Blue is hot, orange or yellow less hot. @9:48, rat droppings on distributor cap can mean chewed wires. Rotors have asymmetrical mounting lugs underneath to prevent installing 180* off.
I already did cap and button and coil and coil wire and fuel pump but still won't start. Getting fire at coil and getting gas. What's wrong? It died going down road
Add on idea:for car owner diy'ers: check some spark plugs if badly worn, then also replace spark plug wires with as well. Put dab dielectric grease on each plug boot. This is the extra care the dearlership mechanics do when working on thir own cars. (Mo commisioned service mgr breathing down their neck to maximize profit by rushing the tech , while still overcharging the poor customer). Parking brake on will avoid daytime lights going on and help recharge that nearly dead battery.
Great video! I have a 97 blazer with the 4.3. It does the same thing as this was doing however it normally will fire off starting fluid. I haven't tested fuel pressure yet. But once I test pressure how do you determine if it's the injectors or the pump that would be bad?
I love the explanations but my mom's 2004 Blazer is doing the same thing and I've replaced everything I could think of except the crankshaft sensor which dad is the only thing I haven't replaced yet other than the stuff you mentioned
By chance was it backfiring and not starting? Mine i replaced everything bur the crankshaft sensor and it won't start and backfires out the intake and exhaust so ima replace the crankshaft sensor
Hi, my 99 s-10 p/up 4.3 is doing the same thing. I checked to see if it was getting fuel thats ok, then I removed the spark plug wire from the coil and lots of spark even from pretty high above the coil and put the spark plug wire back on and the truck started right up. I played with the wires all around the coil to see if I could get some kind of reaction from the engine but it ran smooth as always. I am now worrying about it happening again at a bad time and get stuck somewhere. PS, I changed the coil, wires, cap& rotor and pvc valve. Cleaned M.A.F & throttle bodie & new fuel filter all at 5000 mile ago.
@7:30 you have the spark colors swapped. Blue/white spark is a sign of much better and hotter spark than orange or yellow. Great diagnosis video. Helping a neighbor swap a fuel pump in his S10 next weekend and been watching some basic diag videos just for a refresh of the process.
Have an 02' Blazer ZR2 & drove it to the store & got back in & nothing! It would Crank but not start. Luckily I took it to a Mechanic that knew about 4.3's & he checked the ECM & Coil. He found that it was cracked immediately & replaced it & I was on my way..

How would I know if it might be a battery? My wife drove home last night no problem and then went to drive again to goto the gas station and it wouldn’t start. Acted like the battery was low. I tried starting it today. I can hear the fuel pump priming. I hooked up a jumper battery but it still wouldn’t start and basically drained the battery. question where would you start if your brake lights stay on even if you unhook the brake switch and they go off if you pull the lt trn fuse rt trn fuse and then they go out any help would be great thanks
I've never had to deal with it on my Chevy, but a coworker had that issue, there is a switch under the pedal (or somewhere nearby) that when pushed in, it completes the circuit and allows the brake lights to power on, when released it closes the circuit so that the lights turn off. Turned out her switch was old and stuck open whether pressure to the pedal was applied or not. Was easy to replace and did the trick. I imagine you have the same issue
So I was told to replace cap and rotor with a oem brand because most other brands don't work or are faulty, I'm getting a orange color spark, does that mean my cap.amd rotor is no good.
Mine would crank but not start every few days charged the battery kept trying ended up being fuel pump relay! Crank wont start new battery dead after a few days in a shop (fuel relay)

Maybe ne t time your trying a tutorial..."T for Torx" so that soccer mom can ask for the correct tool...yes- t for star.. OK, male spline, male 12pt, 11pt. Guess an E20 is a supernova bit, as it's a hollow "star"?😂busting your balls but I honestly wasn't expecting "T for Star".. good job. On my 7th s10, only ever had to do one cap+rotor , on the OTHER HAND-cant count the Delphi ICMs I've replaced, or Dragonbreath mafs, ebay coils, also have actually been required to update 1 to mpfi from spider, the rest were strictly upgraded for puececif mind. Also sidenote- most good quality wires cone premarked
Have a 99 Sonoma 2.2, and won't start...have changed fuel filter spark plugs, wires, and ignition coils, but doesn't turn over; fuel pump is working...
I have a question. I'm suspecting Cam sensor but I need verification. I have the exact same issue EXCEPT when I poured a bit of gas directly in the intake, it fired up and ran fine until the gas dried up. It had pressure in the fuel line, fuel pump was working, has spark to the spark plugs. I checked everything you did. Is it the cam sensor?

I changed cap n rotor. Truck ran for 5 min than died out. Any suggestions
Check your work
Thank you very helpful
No spark coming from the coil to the distributor what could be the problem
I bought a 2000 Chevy s10 & it overheated & now it won’t crank or nothing
My cap and rotor look fine though? There cheap so maybe I’ll just throw one on there too see
Have a 99 Sonoma 2.2, and won't start...have changed fuel filter spark plugs, wires, and ignition coils, but doesn't turn over; fuel pump is working...
No that’s a fuel issue. Get a fuel pressure gauge and check the pressure on the fuel rail nipple
Un muy buen video, mil felicitaciones..
