Oscar® nominee Dev Patel (Lion, Slumdog Millionaire) achieves an astonishing, tour-de-force feature directing debut with an action thriller about one man’s quest for vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to systemically victimize the poor and powerless.
Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash.
After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.
Packed with thrilling and spectacular fight and chase scenes, Monkey Man is directed by Dev Patel from his original story and his screenplay with Paul Angunawela and John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World).
The film’s international cast includes Sharlto Copley (District 9), Sobhita Dhulipala (Made in Heaven), Pitobash (Million Dollar Arm), Vipin Sharma (Hotel Mumbai), Ashwini Kalsekar (Ek Tha Hero), Adithi Kalkunte (Hotel Mumbai), Sikandar Kher (Aarya) and Makarand Deshpande (RRR).
Monkey Man is produced by Dev Patel, Jomon Thomas (Hotel Mumbai, The Man Who Knew Infinity), Oscar® winner Jordan Peele (Nope, Get Out), Win Rosenfeld (Candyman, Hunters series), Ian Cooper (Nope, Us), Basil Iwanyk (John Wick franchise, Sicario films), Erica Lee (John Wick franchise, Silent Night), Christine Haebler (Shut In, Bones of Crows) and Anjay Nagpal (executive producer of Bombshell, Greyhound).
Serving as executive producers are Jonathan Fuhrman, Natalya Pavchinskya, Aaron L. Gilbert, Andria Spring, Alison-Jane Roney and Steven Thibault.
Universal Pictures presents a Bron Studios production, a Thunder Road film, a Monkeypaw production, a Minor Realm/S’Ya Concept production, in association with WME Independent and Creative Wealth Media.

Stop saying it's another John Wick. Dev Patel has mentioned he loves Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Sammo Hung and he truly loves Korean Cinema. He probably loves The Man From Nowhere more than John Wick.
Exactly, just because he wears a suit it doesn't mean it's another John Wick. This is more of a fighting martial arts than John Wick's gun fu shooting.
The Man From Nowhere was excellent. It's Bollywood remake however, was terrible
John Wick started with inspiration from the new founding father of all new action movies, it is The Raid Redemption 2011.
this movie is the first movie ever to use the shaky cam for the benefits of the action seqs and without losing any thing from the action it self.

So glad that Jordan Peele took this away from Netflix just to put it on the big screen.
April 5th can’t come soon enough.
This looks brilliant.
Why did Netflix give it off ? Any reasons ?
Let's see how good this movie is. NEVER see Indian actors on film. Dev looks like he could fit the role but we shall see. If only Hollywood didn't pick the same type of Indian people ot fit the roles. Like with Bollywood the acting isn't so good and the characters aren't extremely intimidating. Bollywood has its own form of bad characters in their movies but for real menacing characters it really has to be played up or shown more. Hollywood already has its stereotypes against Indian people. I am Indian and I don't care who says what about what I am saying in this comment. The character who is face to face with Dev's character - who is about to fight him - doesn't look intimidating at all. I hope this movie is good. I will definitely give it a chance though. I liked the way the actress who played Kamala Khan played her role - from what I saw from her acting. You know how like Indian movies in theaters don't really do well or don't get a lot viewers but only a few people still go see the movies? Like a few old white people and Indian people of course? I know Netflix would have had this movie in its wack sections that no one watches. Glad Jordan Peele pulled this from Netflix like you said and has gotten it to be in theaters. Let's see how it is. Indian people need to be respected but I don't know it may take some time for them to really be seen differently or more accepted in movies and society as regular people--but then again maybe it may not happen. DEI totally fks things up--not saying that this is a DEI movie but the way things are so woke now and trying to ram acceptance of other people's races, LGBTQIA+ and other stuff in entertainment is ridiculous. Anyway that's all. I like M. Night Shyamalan's movies though--they're really good and entertaining.
@nicholasinbusiness thanks for the clarity. Ya, there are many good looking peoples and developed cities. But when it comes to films they only choose that slum type peoples and the poor ones. Speaking of villains, i am with you.
❤❤❤

For his first outing as a Director, Dev Patel has made a phenomenal first impression as a director. I hope to see more from him!!
From "Do you remember me?" to "Do you remember me now?".. From getting punched to punching the antagonist. I can feel that the thoughts gone into making this movie are deep and meaningful. Looking forward to watch this movie.
I loved the movie, great acting , love the fight scenes, women playing the part of a tough women. Love the meaning, behind the movie...
Really shows the real dirty and corruption in India and the favoritism from both economics and by religious caste...the Caste (varna) system was set up by the Arya and their corrupt Brahmin priests a few thousand years ago to keep the other Arya and the Anarya 'dasa' (servants ) in their place.(read the Rg veda)..for this and many other reasons is why I'm no longer hindu...
dev patel is one of my favorite actors, bro kills every role he plays
Brother got a little swoll for this movie too! This is so sick! What a work of art Dev! Jordan Peele came in clutch to give this the theatrical edge it deserves. Someone mentioned how he didn’t get the recognition he deserved. It’s so dope that he went and created his own path… that’s real gangsta shit and mad respect for not waiting for someone to give it to him.
Dev Patel ❤ that is all you need. I am sold and so proud of him
The main reason people unconsciously comparing this to john wick not because of suit or action scenes it's because of colour grading ,cinematography and obviously that 1 vs world subject, it seems similar.
And it’s not an insult, John Wick movies are great
John Wick's cool
It's kind of it's own genre. If it's well shot and directed, i'll enjoy them all.
The difference is between north and south…. These guys dies in their countries too then went terrorizing other countries and says it’s john wick? Lol

"exposure to indian culture" - you mean stereotype Indian culture?
This movie is politically driven and is stereotypical of Hinduism and Indian culture.
@@vishvaabushan-tl5sgenlighten me, I really enjoyed the movie. What was stereotypical about it. I enjoyed the music, I liked that they embraced the transgender community, the acting. If you are talking about the rich on top and poor at the bottom, that’s everywhere
@@Bbq643 I see this person is likely from India. Yeah, I just watched the movie just myself, and I've been to India before and know the religions and stuff, and while the essence of India is there, they see their deities seriously, and it looks like someone from a western society got ahold of Hanuman, one of their God's and kind of bastardized, their representation of him. While the caricature is about identical, the backstory about him, is as if they saw a monkey and just made up their own story, and called it their lead's "upbringing." Making their temples look like they're fight clubs, when in actuallity, they're more like a "free range" church. Usually Indian movies take those religious stuff for granted, but whether it Dev Patel's direction choice, to please Peele and possibly a western audience, or possibly Peele's company itself, since they have monkey in their title. I just heard that maybe due to local laws about specific religion portrayals, and/or to connect with their audience, they said they were going to change a bunch of things before releasing it there. I know a bit of the Hindi language, and I caught some things that were not on the subtitles in the Western release. I can imagine it can rub off on people wrong who are from India. My analysis yes
That Auto-rikshaw drift was crazy af...😮
