I LOVE that he said fuck you to Hollywood and wrote, produced and directed the movie HIMSELF!!
He has a producer
@@nikhild7002 Yes he does have couple of producers including himself but Jordan peele production brought it from Netflix for theatrical release. So initially, it's dev who wrote, produced, directed & acted in the movie during the film making process.
He didn’t say fuck you to holllywood lol he did the most Hollywood thing imaginable
Isn’t this a Universal film anyway? Doesn’t take away any of his merit, though. It’s like Ryan Reynolds, he started to be taken more seriously everywhere after he made his own film.
@@gaiusx287 err no. He didnt do the most Hollywood thing ever lay off that crack pipe. He would have continued to just take the roles he was offered if he did that. He didn't. He made his own way.
Trivia: Dev Patel was a Taekwondo black belt before he became an actor. Now it's come full circle, finally making use of his Taekwondo black belt.

I *almost* swept the screen because of your damn profile pic

That's a masterpiece indeed.
Jimmy’s genuine acknowledgment of Dev Patel, when receiving the t-shirt, and emphasizing the leadership and charisma he clearly bright to this movie production!!! Thanks Jimmy, for the respect you showed him for his incredible commitment to his vision!
As an American, a lot of the critics said a rip off of John Wick. However after watching it, it was nothing like it. Really an amazing movie, I will say one of the best ones this year so far next to Dune 2.
agreed!! just because it uses something as inspiration doesn't mean it will be bad. It's all about intent and Dev smashed it with using something familiar and nostalgic but making it his own!
@@VanessaBerrill Yes, I liked the whole fighting concept that made it more realistic than John Wick who just goes inside a building and slaughters 50 people with ease.
I think its actually so much more interesting than john wick. Dont get me wrong John Wick is a good series and has fantastic action but it doesn’t have much of a philosophy and the story just acts as a vehicle for the action more than anything. Monkey Man’s action is centered around the storytelling, around the culture. It has something to say about the cycle and monopoly of violence, the oppression of minorities, and the dangers of systemic religion and religious power. The action directly ties into its message and vice versa. It’s like Dev Patel said, its an action flick with a soul put into it.
There’s a John Wick joke in the movie
Personally I think it's more accurate to say that this movie is inspired by the same movies that inspired John Wick.
I LOVE Dev Patel, and I haven't gone see a movie in the theater since before Covid...but I'm going to see this one - to support him with this film, I'm SO proud of him!!!

Dev is one of a handful of actors that is always in a film that is worth watching.

also "Monkey Man" is an amazing film
@@anupamraj3922 one quick google search proves you wrong. just google "is Hanuman a monkey" and the vast, vast majority of the internet would disagree with you. Hanuman is a MONKEY god. also you've commented multiple times under other posts criticizing literally everybody in the movie. how about you watch the AMAZING movie Dev Patel has created before crying about it in the comments. and if you're that offended by the mere concept of this film and calling it "anti-Indian" and whatnot, remember that this is a MOVIE. and even the film is satire, criticizing and making fun of a nationalistic government. the whole plot is of a man's redemption arc and taking revenge on the corrupt government, tearing it down in the process. the religion and symbols are used to connect the main character to his deeply religious and innocent childhood, which was violently and horribly burned down in front of him along with his mother by the government. religion in this film is used to remind him of his past and to connect him to what his childhood could have been before his family and community were massacred, giving him a strong desire for revenge. while the film is extremely violent (and funny) I see it in no way anti-Indian or anti-Hindu.
he truly seems like a genuine kind and sweet man

He put his heart and soul into this. Looking forward to it.
Edit: Thanks for all the likes. Just watched this film absolutely SUPERB. Also yes of course he is Indian. Kudos ro representing his nation well. But I always see any South Asian that is not from my country (Bangladesh) as part of a bigger community as one.
