I am in happy LDR. And I read in some of the comments doubts. This is the root of all eval. Your story will work out only if you decide from the very beginning that it's gonna happen. Both of you should be determined in that. Sometimes it'll be hard for both or for one, then "check the contract', remind each other that you can feel down, be irritated, ect. just because of the distance; remind each other that you decided to stick together, no matter what. It is scary to spend the whole life with one person (at least, for me:) ), but if you both take this decision, follow it, there is nothing which cannot be solved. And don't forget to say how much you appreciate that this very person is next to you, even if you cannot be together physically, at the moment. Wish you all to be patient, loving, attentive to your partners and to your inner voice.

My boyfriend lives in France and I live in Colorado, USA. We've been in a long distance relationship for almost two years, but we've been able to see each other three times so far. The first time we met was when he came to Colorado for a month. The second time we saw each other was a month after his visit and we both spent five months together in Spain (study abroad). The third time was this summer when he was in Colorado about a month ago for over a month. it's definitely not easy, but communication is very important. telling each other everything is key
+Joy. Because of the time difference I can only talk to him from the moment I wake up until he goes to bed which is usually around 3:30- 4 pm ish for me. So in a way, throughout the day until evening for me. we do talk every day though on WhatsApp and talk on the phone about three or four times a week. We also try to Skype every weekend. Sending letters and gifts helps a lot too

For me the most difficult part is saying good bye and the first week after saying good bye because you're back to your life and you're by yourself. Staying busy helps a lot and always try to set a date when you are together to see each other in the future so that it makes time go by faster and you have that date to look forward to 🙂

The person I love really is in ANTARCTICA!!! He works there and we spend months at a time apart, with very limited communication. How often you (can and do) see each other totally depends on the relationship, but once a month sounds like a good start, especially if you are cognizant of not putting too much financial strain on either one of you. It's never too soon to ask openly about the other person's relationship goals; in fact better to know earlier rather than later, when, after a year, one of you is ready to get engaged and start a family only to find out the other person never wants to get married!

I do want to entice the thoughts and emotions that she is feeling towards me and it is that she thinks I am not sure of myself due to the time I think I will be able to visit her, I am really sure that I will visit her I told her the possibilities that it could be up to 2-4 years and she gets mad at me and wishes to friend zone me as I respect her and do as she says then she falls in love with me again...it is puzzling indeed...my love for her is ever growing and ever harder as I just won't give up, yet the heartaches I take to accept what she says all of the time allows me to be stronger for her, but in the end thinking everyday on how I will get to her gets depressing and painful.

Don't know if this will reach you after such a long time but I gotta say: she might be as amazing as you think she is and I'm not gonna try to invalidate your feelings for her.. but what she did there was clearly under no circumstances okay. When you love or loved someone you probably will say things you regret and you probably will hurt each other without doing it on purpose. But telling someone you leave for whatever reason that the new person or thing they have makes them so much happier cause you just couldn't do the same and weren't good enough is.. shitty. Very shitty and very unfair and very immature. I obviously don't know anything about you two and your relationship but no matter the circumstances: that wasn't okay and you should not at any point feel like you made her say or do whatever she did. I hope you're better today and anyone else who goes through something like this. Don't let other people determine your value. we are planning to see each other in 7 years which seems like so long but it works. It is going to be the first time we meet if the relationship lasts. It will take so long and it would be an 11 hour flight anyways. It will be hard to figure out but we committed to it and who knows one of us could end up surprising the other but all we have between us now is time.

My relationship initially started as long distance, and at first I didn't think the first step mentioned here applied to me. It actually was one of the most important steps! However I would like to emphasize that, above all, CLEAR COMMUNICATION IS KEY! Big fights may occur even with one tiny little misunderstanding. My boyfriend and I had these conversations before I left the state for the summer to move back home to help my parents move. We both go to Texas A and M where he lives in Texas and I’m from Michigan. Long distance isn’t as bad I thought it would be. We were together only a month before I had to leave. I think having a conversation about what lays in the future really helped us relax about me going away. There’s no type of jealousy and we are both very understanding if one has to cancel the FaceTime we had scheduled due to something popping. He knows everything that’s going on in my life not because he asked but because I tell him. I’m working a part time job, going to school and getting ready to move so making time to talk can be hard but we do it. Communication is really key in a long distance relationship and long as you have that and trust it’ll work out 😁

This is good advice and I agree with it, but for folks who are in a military relationship and a partner is deployed, you probably won't be able to talk to them every day or get to see them until they come back. To help fix that, I wrote letters to my fiance every week to keep him up to date about what was going on throughout the week. The main point it every little bit helps
My boyfriend and I have been dating for about 8 months now when we started dating he was only living about 20/25 milesish away but he is going back to uni to finish his final year in September which is about 100ish miles away from where I am living at the moment, however we both feel that the time apart will make us stronger, and I even promised to put some time to come up during October (his birthday) for a few days. My girlfriend & I have known each other since kindergarten, but I moved away in 2011 & spent 2012 & most of last year out of touch. I finally got her phone number in September last year after my family went back to that town for 2 weeks, I was going to go see her but she was ALSO on holiday. 😞 After her & I spoke for the first time in 2 years, I remembered how much I liked her. ☺️ At the end of October last year, I finally got the balls to ask her out. She said yes because the feeling was mutual after all. I was stoked to be in my first relationship. It's been going strong ever since. But unfortunately I'm moving even FURTHER next month, which is going to make it harder for both of us. I plan on going to see her next year. I think it will work out.
Me and my girlfriend live like 120km apart. We play like 3 to 4 hours video games together after work. Sometimes we watch movies. Even though we do all these things, we meet up nearly every weekend. But still, the days we don't see each other are like hell. It is not even the problem that we can't do things together. But it is just so much better to watch a movie while cuddling or talk about a specific topic sitting right infront of each other. We are both 16 and we are looking to make things better. The one thing I find helps our relationship is listening to each other support each other and if we have a problem instead of taking the coward's way out actually sit down and discuss it like adults and try and find a solution plus being completly open and honest with each other. I feel I have opened up to him so many ways and that I can trust him with anything and everything he is not only my boyfriend but my best friend, and I can see myself being with him for a long time. :D

Shanghai-Germany for me. 2 and a half years already. Moving in together next spring yayyy! What if you're in an LDR and it's not quite simple to just Skype them or call them and you're only reliant on texting? Also, what if they have BPD and it's not quite as easy to meet up or plan meetups as regular people can? But you both are still passionately in love with each other and have such a deep connection that you feel like a married couple, so it's not as simple as judging the situation as "one of us is not making enough effort". And you've been there for each other in other ways that is special. How can you stop yourself from feeling lonely and disappointed from this kind of situation? One of you takes longer to get to the next step than the other but you are both on the same level emotionally. I get myself all wound up because our circumstances keep changing around all the time, and I see how easy it is for other couples to be together. I don't feel like I am entitled to have someone physically there next to me, like there's something the universe knows but I don't and it doesn't matter what my heart wants. But I still know I can't just give up, I don't feel that's an option at all because the person I'm with, to me, seems worth it. The last time I went through this it was 2 years before we finally met then I figured out I didn't really fancy them enough and they didn't actually love me. This case is sooooo different, I do fancy them enough and they DO love me and in the truest way I've ever witnessed in another human being. I just don't get why I have this kind of shoddy luck in romantic relationships. Life doesn't seem to make it easy for me to be with the people I care about most. I hope time will sort out this situation I'm in so that we can be together.

You are all so lucky to be dating in the age of the Internet (I'm 50). This next advice is for single people. I had 2 girlfriends go to Eastern colleges (one after the next). The deal I made (a really hard one) since I wasn't ready to propose marriage was to go out w/ other people.(It sucks very hard when either actually does) but there's less resentment in the long run IF it doesn't ultimately work out. I don't live now regretting any lost years or opportunities and one did meet "Mr. Right."

I am in happy LDR. And I read in some of the comments doubts. This is the root of all eval. Your story will work out only if you decide from the very beginning that it's gonna happen. Both of you should be determined in that. Sometimes it'll be hard for both or for one, then "check the contract', remind each other that you can feel down, be irritated, ect. just because of the distance; remind each other that you decided to stick together, no matter what. It is scary to spend the whole life with one person (at least, for me:) ), but if you both take this decision, follow it, there is nothing which cannot be solved. And don't forget to say how much you appreciate that this very person is next to you, even if you cannot be together physically, at the moment.

My boyfriend lives in France and I live in Colorado, USA. We've been in a long distance relationship for almost two years, but we've been able to see each other three times so far. The first time we met was when he came to Colorado for a month. The second time we saw each other was a month after his visit and we both spent five months together in Spain (study abroad). The third time was this summer when he was in Colorado about a month ago for over a month. it's definitely not easy, but communication is very important. telling each other everything is key
+Joy. Because of the time difference I can only talk to him from the moment I wake up until he goes to bed which is usually around 3:30- 4 pm ish for me. So in a way, throughout the day until evening for me. we do talk every day though on WhatsApp and talk on the phone about three or four times a week. We also try to Skype every weekend. Sending letters and gifts helps a lot too

For me the most difficult part is saying good bye and the first week after saying good bye because you're back to your life and you're by yourself. How often you (can and do) see each other totally depends on the relationship, but once a month sounds like a good start, especially if you are cognizant of not putting too much financial strain on either one of you. It's never too soon to ask openly about the other person's relationship goals; in fact better to know earlier rather than later, when, after a year, one of you is ready to get engaged and start a family only to find out the other person never wants to get married!

Don't know if this will reach you after such a long time but I gotta say: she might be as amazing as you think she is and I'm not gonna try to invalidate your feelings for her.. but what she did there was clearly under no circumstances okay. When you love or loved someone you probably will say things you regret and you probably will hurt each other without doing it on purpose. But telling someone you leave for whatever reason that the new person or thing they have makes them so much happier cause you just couldn't do the same and weren't good enough is.. shitty. Very shitty and very unfair and very immature. However I would like to emphasize that, above all, CLEAR COMMUNICATION IS KEY! Big fights may occur even with one tiny little misunderstanding. My boyfriend and I had these conversations before I left the state for the summer to move back home to help my parents move. We both go to Texas A and M where he lives in Texas and I’m from Michigan. Long distance isn’t as bad I thought it would be. We were together only a month before I had to leave. I think having a conversation about what lays in the future really helped us relax about me going away. There’s no type of jealousy and we are both very understanding if one has to cancel the FaceTime we had scheduled due to something popping. He knows everything that’s going on in my life not because he asked but because I tell him. I’m working a part time job, going to school and getting ready to move so making time to talk can be hard but we do it. Communication is really key in a long distance relationship and long as you have that and trust it’ll work out 😁

This is good advice and I agree with it, but for folks who are in a military relationship and a partner is deployed, you probably won't be able to talk to them every day or get to see them until they come back. To help fix that, I wrote letters to my fiance every week to keep him up to date about what was going on throughout the week. The main point it every little bit helps

We will eventually separate after we're done with high school, he'll most probably study in Malaysia and I may study go study in Canada but that's not the point, the point is that it'll take a long time until we see each other again, we do communicate everyday and it all goes well despite the fact that we live in the same city and we do get to see each other ( not so much since my parents are strict about the topic and I'm not allowed to date, however we do respect each other and keep the relationship healthy and mind you we don't do anything wrong ) I'll graduate soon and he graduates a year after I do, I dread the day that he has to leave and I'm so worried because it'll take long until we can see each other, some advice, anyone?

The one thing I find helps our relationship is listening to each other support each other and if we have a problem instead of taking the coward's way out actually sit down and discuss it like adults and try and find a solution plus being completly open and honest with each other. I feel I have opened up to him so many ways and that I can trust him with anything and everything he is not only my boyfriend but my best friend, and I can see myself being with him for a long time. :D

What if you're in an LDR and it's not quite simple to just Skype them or call them and you're only reliant on texting? Also, what if they have BPD and it's not quite as easy to meet up or plan meetups as regular people can? But you both are still passionately in love with each other and have such a deep connection that you feel like a married couple, so it's not as simple as judging the situation as "one of us is not making enough effort". And you've been there for each other in other ways that is special. How can you stop yourself from feeling lonely and disappointed from this kind of situation? One of you takes longer to get to the next step than the other but you are both on the same level emotionally. I get myself all wound up because our circumstances keep changing around all the time, and I see how easy it is for other couples to be together. I don't feel like I am entitled to have someone physically there next to me, like there's something the universe knows but I don't and it doesn't matter what my heart wants. But I still know I can't just give up, I don't feel that's an option at all because the person I'm with, to me, seems worth it. The last time I went through this it was 2 years before we finally met then I figured out I didn't really fancy them enough and they didn't actually love me. This case is sooooo different, I do fancy them enough and they DO love me and in the truest way I've ever witnessed in another human being. I just don't get why I have this kind of shoddy luck in romantic relationships. Life doesn't seem to make it easy for me to be with the people I care about most. I hope time will sort out this situation I'm in so that we can be together.

You are all so lucky to be dating in the age of the Internet (I'm 50). This next advice is for single people. I had 2 girlfriends go to Eastern colleges (one after the next). The deal I made (a really hard one) since I wasn't ready to propose marriage was to go out w/ other people.(It sucks very hard when either actually does) but there's less resentment in the long run IF it doesn't ultimately work out. I don't live now regretting any lost years or opportunities and one did meet "Mr. Right."
