This song save your heart for me For the younger generation let me explain Ok Here I go During the 1950's into the 1960 college kids would go on summer break from last of May till middle of September for summer break Most highschool girls in states like California and Florida would never consider marriage until after college Why? Because they loved being free. Guys too Here in northwest Arkansas Girls often would get married at 16 But college kids had fun with going to the beach and summer parties They might get engaged Ok When they went home for summer break they might enjoy a fling or even look at a boy but never more than flirt Gary is singing save your heart for me When I see you in September we will still be sweet hearts In those colleges they had deans and older women who was mother's away from home Basically they behaved themselves It was common for young girls to wait till age 25 or older to marry Why Because when you get married you don't go out anymore Guys waited too The generation today is a little different Those days most girls never even went to college But where Gary Lewis lived they liked being free Gary is the son of Jerry Lewis and his mother was a good looking lady too Again it has to do with the summer time when college kids went home for summer break Save your heart for me Was a number one hit That song came out in 1964 For people over 70 years old this song was a way of life Look at how Gary is dressed and his band College was fun and you loved every moment being free Summer surf and beach parties Even in southern states college kids went 4 years of college They often got married the last year of college It was common to see marriage at 27 Save your heart for me
Am 77. Met Gary Lewis on the oldies Malt Shoppe Cruise in 2013 and he performed 2 concerts on the ship. Saw and talked to him everyday for 6 days. He became almost like a brother to me. Gary was so great to everyone on the ship. His concerts were fabulous and I’ve seen him once since. Fabulous individual. Paul from Toronto Canada
We lived out in the country and never saw our classmates during the summer. This song had a special meaning because you didn’t know if your 7th grade girlfriend would still your girlfriend wehen 8 th grade started.
I grew up with this music. I can't remember the last time I heard this or listened to it but today it just wouldn't get out of my head so I came here and listened to it. Love it
This song was recorded mid way through my senior year in high school. I loved this music then, and I still do. This reply is being made nine months after yours; I hope that you are well.
Many years ago I paid a visit to a Catholic church and there I heard two teenagers playing a great tune with their guitars. The melody was soooo beautiful that made me wonder what song it was. Thinking it would be presumptuous of me as a stranger to ask them about the song, I stayed around listening instead. As time went on I forgot that melody completely so there's no way I could find it anymore, what a shame. Then I've chanced on this Gary's song on YT and instantly all my memory about what I heard that day is back.
Gary Lewis & The Playboys is one the most underrated groups from the 60s & this is my favourite song by them.. I've always been a fan and always will be. Great music and great memories!! Thanks Gary and the guys!! From Vancouver Canada ♥
My favorite song. Will always remind me of my precious mom as she introduced me to all of the BEST music ever made from the beginning of my life and throughout! I will forever be grateful. I miss you and will see you again, Mom! ❤🥲
The word playboy refers to boys who played music and the guy with the accordion was a little older I never saw anyone play that accordion like he did Funny the accordion was famous in the 1950
I first heard 'This Diamond ring" then "Green Grass" at my friends house his sister's had the singles. I Asked for Gary Lewis and The playboys album for Christmas and this song was on their Golden great album that I had gotten! :)
Written by Gary Geld and Peter Udell, the sane team that wrote Hurting Each Other and Sealed With a Kiss (big hit for Brian Hyland in 1962 and later recorded by Gary Lewis in 1968).
Yikes ..I was 13 when this came out, loved them! Still do, and so glad I can see and hear them online since I didn't own a record player back then to be able to buy records!
What a great, great tune. I was away at camp during the summer of ‘65. This song was a huge hit that summer. What a great era. What a great band. True talent and Americana.
Yes..."Gary Lewis & The Playboy's" had many hits that, I enjoyed. This Diamond Ring.. Just My Style, Save Your Heart For Me, Green Grass, Sure Gonna Miss Her, My Hearts Sympathy, You Don't Have To Paint Me A Picture, Count Me In, I even enjoyed his voice impersonations on his song "Where Are All The Stars". I caught his act...in the 80's at "Lulu's" in Ontario. A Truly Nice Guy ..I still have my Photo With Him. Thanks 60's Music Lovers.
I saw a June 15, 1963 Billboard (posted online) and it was advertising Bryan Hyland's then-current single "I'm Afraid to Go Home," and this was the B-side.
This is truly my favorite song. I have loved Gary and the Playboys since I was 7 or 8. I would love beyond anything to hear them and meet And greet. Talk about making dreams come true! Are you doing any cruises?
I was born in 1973 but grew up listening to the Oldies. This is when music was music. Oldies are the best!
And the 70's were not!
Gary Lewis and the Playboys brought great joy to my teenage days with their music. So lucky to have grown up in the 1950s and 60s (Born in 1950).
I was 12 and away at overnight camp out on a 10 mile hike. I would sing this song to myself walking along the road. Never forgot it. I'm 70 now.
This song save your heart for me
For the younger generation let me explain
Ok
Here I go
During the 1950's into the 1960 college kids would go on summer break from last of May till middle of September for summer break
Most highschool girls in states like California and Florida would never consider marriage until after college
Why?
Because they loved being free.
Guys too
Here in northwest Arkansas
Girls often would get married at 16
But college kids had fun with going to the beach and summer parties
They might get engaged
Ok
When they went home for summer break they might enjoy a fling or even look at a boy but never more than flirt
Gary is singing save your heart for me
When I see you in September we will still be sweet hearts
In those colleges they had deans and older women who was mother's away from home
Basically they behaved themselves
It was common for young girls to wait till age 25 or older to marry
Why
Because when you get married you don't go out anymore
Guys waited too
The generation today is a little different
Those days most girls never even went to college
But where Gary Lewis lived they liked being free
Gary is the son of Jerry Lewis and his mother was a good looking lady too
Again it has to do with the summer time when college kids went home for summer break
Save your heart for me
Was a number one hit
That song came out in 1964
For people over 70 years old this song was a way of life
Look at how Gary is dressed and his band
College was fun and you loved every moment being free
Summer surf and beach parties
Even in southern states college kids went 4 years of college
They often got married the last year of college
It was common to see marriage at 27
Save your heart for me
Thanks Gary & the Playboys for making our wonderful music of the 60s as teenagers. We will always love & remember! 1965 & 60s!
A wonderful time, and wonderful music that the Playboys gave us.
amen to that!
I do agree .......
Ahh. The mid 60's. What a time. Then 1968 came along 😮

Me too woke today singing this song had to come to TH-cam to finding it.

Great song! I'm sure many of the harder rock and roll fans would laugh but I genuinely like this song
loved this song when I was 9 years old and still do at 66!!
Saw them at the Steel Pier for my 13th birthday in 1965!
Steel pier memories for me were in 66 when The Supremes came. Was that the show that was hosted by Ed Hurst?
My favorite song. Will always remind me of my precious mom as she introduced me to all of the BEST music ever made from the beginning of my life and throughout! I will forever be grateful. I miss you and will see you again, Mom! ❤🥲
I've never heard finer accordion playing anywhere.
They made growing up in the 60s a joy.

You are 12 and I was 12 when this song meant so much to me. I'm 70 now. Good songs live on forever.

Absolutely. I was 9 when this came out in 1965. Beautiful time to be a innocent elementary school kid.
Gary was always Classy..unlike so many stars back then..great group too!
I've played this song dozens with my harmonica. Everyone liked it.
This is very very awesome song
I was not yet born for this music.
The only pop band I have seen with a guy playing an accordion.
Simple and soooooooooo Sweeeeet Music. They don't make songs like this anymore... Love it
Best years of my life
One of the greatest songs of the 60's... and that's a real compliment considering the magnitude of talent of this decade.
He's Jerry Lewis's son. You should see them together
Gary lewis and the play boys
@@lazurm they are brill 🥰
Oldie but Goodie.
Priceless.
Seen them in Branson, Missouri. Memories.
My favorite Gary song
I had this 45 record. I was nine at the time
I saw Gary Lewis and Playboys perform in a little dive in 70's. Talked to him a good while when they took a break and were shooting pool.
Gary had the same voice inflections as his dad Jerry Lewis! He towed his own road! Nicely done....
Minns den tydligt och kunde sjunga med för mig själv. Rent och fint framträdande med klara och rena stämmor. Fin mjuk sång!
The best of times! Great growing up in the 60's!
I loved this tune. I think I was about 10 or 11 when it was popular. I was very happy at that time
My mothers favorite song from that era.
Gary Lewis and Playboys!
Wonderful!

I once ran into Jerry at an airport. I said "hello, I'm a huge fan of yours". He told me "to shove it". True.
Cute little ditty. Must have been a big help having a famous and successful Dad backing your group.
Vielen Dank für die Wunderschöne Musik Wünsche Ihnen noch eine schöne Woche. Liebe Grüße A.K
Many great memories with Gary's hits, especially in Worthington, OH & Ventura, CA.
Great talent. Love his music. ❤😊
I think I saw them at the Oldies concerts in Boston back the 90's. WODS 103.3,FM

Great song
A lot nicer than his dad must take after his mom, I don't know how a person could treat his son's like that they were great sons.
Jerry Lewis was SOB! That's for sure....
You're mean...
@@neilbuscherHe was very emotionally and Verbally Abusive towards them even while they were small Children😢
Same ! love this song
Fabulous! I saw them with the Turtles!
Great concert. Gary Puckett & one of the lead singers of Three Dog Night as well. Always loved Gary Lewis!

A real tear-jerker.
omg I loved them as a kid
First recorded by Bryan Hyland in 1963, Gary and his band took it to the top in 1965.
Never knew it was recorded before. Bryan Hyland's version didn't chart, though, did it?
I saw a June 15, 1963 Billboard (posted online) and it was advertising Bryan Hyland's then-current single "I'm Afraid to Go Home," and this was the B-side.
Many may not know it but this song was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin.
down to earth fellow too!
These were beautiful songs
This is truly my favorite song. I have loved Gary and the Playboys since I was 7 or 8. I would love beyond anything to hear them and meet And greet. Talk about making dreams come true! Are you doing any cruises?
The great Carl Radle on bass.

His father must have been so proud of him.
