Karen was a natural. She didn’t need singing lessons. She didn’t win on American Idol. She was the opposite of how Brittney Spears got her start. Karen was born to sing and make people happy. But she was only human and a terrible illness took her away from us too early. But now she’s in Heaven singing to the all the spirits, Angels and to God. She will forever be the greatest voice for eternity!

I've always known that my whole life since I first heard Karen's voice probably around 1972 and I was still a kid. Nice to feel validated by those legends. True music lovers "get it" about how special Karen's voice was, as Richard said it was "perfect in every way". So beautiful and mature and effortless right from such a young age. There will never be another voice like hers in our lifetime.

And her voice is very soothing at the same time.. She is like the gentle teacher you wish you had when you were a kid.. But trivia time.. She actually didnt really like singing.. Her most passionate thing drumming..

In 1970, I was 6 years old. This was my mother's favorite song and she used to sing it to me whenever it came on the radio. She told me that this song reminded her of me. Her words made me feel special, loved and invincible! A mother's words can give a child the power to be anything! That is what my mother gave me.
In a few short months, I will be 60 years old and far removed from the days when this song was on the radio. When I was 6, I would often wonder what my life would be like at age 30, and what kind of adult I might be. And, here I am today, well past 30 and barely able to look into a rear view that is nothing more than a mixed bag of tragedy and joy.
But, it also makes me think about where we are today and I wonder if any of us have truly moved forward. And then, I think how I would trade my best day today for my worst day back then. How, with all of our technical advancements and modern gadgets, I still prefer the simplicity of the '70s. A time when my mother's smile felt like a warm and safe blanket.
It's funny how much one song can affect a person. I don't think children today have it like we did. That's what I think, but I sincerely hope that I am wrong.

That voice ( Karen ), the composition ( Burt Bacharach ) and the excellent arrangement ( Richard ).
And - in addition - it's got that "something" to it one can NOT explain.
But what all great songs share. What makes everybody instinctively stop what you were doing - and listen up and drift.

So sad that she did not find happiness. She brought joy to so many. I pray that the angels led you to the only true joy. Jesus will always be close to you.

The greatest voice I've ever heard. We're always thinking about you.

Before auto-tune, when sound engineering was still a new thing and yet the voice of Karen Carpentier sounds better than most of what we have today

AND she played the drums at the same time. It's completely insane. What a talent!

Karen had the voice of an angel. Brings one to tears thinking of how tragically she passed at such a young age.

You know it’s a good song when it’s been up for 7 years and it’s still getting comments practically every day. I was six years old when it came out, it takes me right back to that summer…sigh…now to give it another 18 listens…😊
