This is exactly the kind of fishing I do here on the west coast of Norway. I came from a coarse fishing background in the UK but found the freshwater fishing in my area a bit lacking. I started using dropshot, Texas and cheb rigs in the fjords and instantly started catching wrasse, pollock, cod and even hake. I've slowly beefed up my rigs to the level you're showing here and it's so much fun! Nothing beats sight-fishing cod in crystal clear water with a Texas rig and watching that big beast make that final turn for the lure...

Nice video John.. I also find with texas rigging. As you slide the worm on the angle by the eye.. Slide the lure over the eyelet as it will. Protect the knot and also the lure won't slip off as easy when using and getting takes etc..
Hto and gamakatsu 1/0 and 2/0 worm hooks are fab for senkos and alike.. Smaller gape and lots more landed fish I find..
Loverly explanation on the video bud..

fishy 0000 the trick with drop shotting is to fish to features such as locks and overhanging trees etc anywhere that may hold fish. It is not the ideal method for searching the canal for fish which can be quite localised particularly in winter. I tend to fish small jigs etc to search for the fish then switch to dropshotting once I have located the fish. Hope this helps.

Great video John, wacky rigging (side hooking) can also be deadly on Carolina rigs even though it looks daft. Also have you ever used Z man lures? They are not the cheapest but very durable and can withstand being ripped up by wrasse and most importantly are very buoyant which can make them deadly on Carolina rigs where they can be fished suspended off the bottom. Thanks for the content mate.

Quick question about Carolina rig- you mentioned casting out and different retrieve methods, but would you try that with beachcaster and long retrieve back to the beach or were you thinking only bass/spinning rod type casts? Never quite sure how lure fishing sits with bait casting idea that lead should not be moved about too much by tide/current. Thx

Hi John, excuse my possible naivety but, could you make a mackerel rig using multiple same drop shot hook nots? Or should it be something else?
    Thanks

Forgive the ignorant question but why would you fish for wrasse? Is it for fun or do you you have a load of cats to feed?
