      First song of his I ever heard was "Doctor My Eyes," and I thought, Wow, that's different, a little deeper than the usual pop song.......and then I heard this one. He wrote this at 16 or 17? I've been a fan since. This version sounds like a hybrid of the Nico and the Greg Allman versions, if I'm not mistaken this is the original lyric, not choppy like the German chanteuse Nico, but a mellow and bluesy vocal like Greg Allmon. NICE.

      Jackson is in his 70s now. He's been singing those lyrics for almost 60 years, but it sounds as if he could have written them yesterday, from the perspective of a person looking back at a long life. Amazing indeed.

    I wore the grooves off of my "Saturate Before Using" album by the time I joined the Navy in Feb. 1973. Tangled and destroyed copies on 8 track and cassette followed over the next couple decades. Now, I have it all on CDs backed up as digital files on my pc. My love of his music never died. However, seeing Jackson as an old man is hard for me, for now, I am an old man, too. Life is so bittersweet.

      "I think, most of us , are like Jethro Tull, , Living in the past, and are afraid to face the reality, "Nothing stays the same. " IT seems ,daily, we hear of the passing of another one of our Favorite rock stars, and a piece of us, dies right along with that person. THE separation, is we have these people immortalized, and and embedded in our memories, through our media. THE scratched up 45's , and albums , over played through our teen years, and now, skip so much, they are virtually unplayable. OR the cassettes, and 8 Tracks, that simply self-destruct , through time.... People grow up, and change. But, I think It's hard for us , as fans, to accept the fact, our artists, are changing, too. AND, for too many of them; THEY can't carry a tune, like they did, in their 20's. We see , and hear them, as they were , when we were growing up. Fifty years later; We can barely recognize them.
      Dell Shannon, before his passing, in his latter years; was unrecognizable, and struggled to hit that high note, he was so famous for, "IN his hit ,Runaway. " Jonathan Edwards, Procal Harum,. Melanie, .... THE same thing. "The only constant in the universe, is Nothing , stays the same." THE media, we play now, is a time stamp, and a fixed piece of time, and something we can control. THE artists moved on; We didn't. and find it hard to accept this change. THESE amazing people, so talented, were a huge part of our lives, and defined us, as we grew up. THEY were connected to our memories , and were a huge part, of we became.

      For me I sadly have now have the privilege of perspective. He is honest that he had written this as a boy/man and you can hear that in the lyrics. No one wants to be confronted with their failures, whatever their age.

    • @marknickells6097
      @marknickells6097 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it's true , for most. We see , and hear , them, in their prime. ( 20's) to 30's) , and pitch perfect, and we immortalize them. "Before the big change. " I have heard, too many artists, struggle , greatly to hit the that high note. Dell Shannon, THE Tokens, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight? THE guy nailed High C. Never again. Tommy Roe,"Dizzy.", Jonathan Edwards, " , Melanie , ALL have huge fan bases ,but, even so. THEY are basically unrecognizable. UNLESS, you've been following them , all their lives. They are basically , not the same people, and too many of the class bands are missing key artists, due to death, or other illnesses. I think what t suprized me; was the total amount bands , that simply didn't exist anymore. THAT me feel old. Have I actually became a Legacy ? The death of Gary Brooker, (Procol Harum) , made me realize, life is too short, and we need to grasp, every minute, because, you don't know, when your number comes up?

    Jackson Brown was a prophetic poet even in his teens. Everything he writes seem generationally universal, the same questions at 17 that I still have at 74. And still no answers.

    • @TennesseeMethuselah
      @TennesseeMethuselah 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The answers are clutched deep within the stoic individuality that comprises each of own indivisible conscious individuality. If you're looking for something more than you had when you were discerned all things as a child, then you've been hookwinked into the predatory clutches of stuff outside of your own cosmic dominion.
      Like Jai Jagdeesch sang for all the children, "know you are loved. Jackson knew he was loved, & I"m grateful for his cosmic recording of the eternal experience....

    Especially this song.
    I'm 23 years old from Coventry, England, UK.
    I was raised by my grandparents, and I grew up listening to their favourite songs and artists, and although I must admit, that I didn't always appreciate their tastes as much when I was very little, I definitely do now.
    They introduced me to so many outstanding artists and I certainly feel like their tastes have rubbed off on me and certainly influenced my own music. (guitarist)

    Hi Jackson. I have enjoyed your songs and music from my time as a student at Stony Brook University (NY) in the late 1960s. We crossed paths there several times in the H-dorm (you were not a student there) and even played on the same gig for two university sponsored concerts. I was in a duo with several names (Bill & Willie and later as Abelard & Dr. Jones). Later (circa 1970) on the West coast you opened up for Hamilton Camp when I was his lead guitarist at two folk clubs (in LA and Orange County). Finally, I spent several hours at your apartment in Echo Park practicing with Penny Nichols for a gig also in Southern Cal (you were not there). In all those times our paths crossed, I am not sure we ever spoke- but at 76 my memory is not the greatest. Thank you for your incredible songs and equally incredible efforts to help others in need. I published my first songs when I was 18 (you beat me by a couple of years) and have been a semi-pro and amateur songwriter on and off for nearly 6 decades. None are in the same category as yours but at least I have experienced the multitude of feelings one shares in writing and performing one's songs. Thank you for sharing yours . They have made this world a much better place. Bravo!

    Merry Christmas, Jackson! You wrote the soundtrack to my life! Not long after I made that same comment on one of your videos in March 2021, I went into sudden heart failure. Never had heart problems before. Rarely drink, don't smoke or do illicit drugs (not for many, many years.) Was very active in my younger years. (Listen up, ladies: Heart disease is known as the "silent killer of women." My only symptoms were nausea, slight shortness of breath and a light gnawing unrelenting pressure on my chest (not pain) after waking in the middle of the night covered in sweat, soaked to the bone. I'm a retired medical assistant so I knew the signs were not favorable so called 9-1-1 and spent a week in the hospital, alone (no visitors due to covid.) It was surreal. I'm OK now. No surgery. Just have to take heart pills now and limit salt and fluids. Then Jackson went and wrote My Cleveland Heart. You have my heart, Jackson. We are kindred souls and you don't even know it. I can't afford to attend any concerts (my hospital bill was over $100,000-still waiting on insurance to cover their portion-I was already poor) but I wish you well, ALWAYS. Hope the New Year brings you good health, joy, laughter and love. Enjoy every sandwich.

During that time I've gone through several changes in my life - COVID, a divorce after 20+ years of marriage, health issues, a new relationship, etc. Along the way, I will always carry the mistakes made in my life with me, but I won't dwell on them or let them define me. In fact, they've made me a better man, a better partner, a better father, a better person. We learn from our mistakes. We learn (hopefully) not to make them again, but we also grow from them into a better version of ourselves. Great song and a great and meaningful bit of lyrics with very deep meaning in my life! It's amazing that he wrote them at sixteen.

    Forty six years ago I heard "These Days" for the first time as my first Jackson Browne song. It has carried with me since as my favorite song. Earlier this year I saw Jackson Browne in concert in Central California and his music, new and old, is as magical as ever. I am so grateful for his songs and story telling, it has always meant so much to me.

    I graduated from high school in 1980 and I listened to a lot of Jackson Browne and James Taylor. That was half of my high school soundtrack because these were my girlfriend's favorites. I had listened to mostly Led Zepplin and Aerosmith. This music however did grow on me. Listening now to Jackson as he has aged and weathered like all of us makes me think in some ways of how those times were precious but we really did not know it. Life seemed to be much simpler then pre 9-11. Just listening to him talk like a regular person is somewhat amazing ( like Ferris Bueller talking to us on his day off ) Everyone has posted how powerful his music is and how it has made an impact on our lives and just pausing and being thankful for how his songs have been the backdrop of our moving through this life has been a nice little vacation.
