    LYRICS:
    Well I've been out walking
I don't do too much talking these days
    These days
These days I seem to think a lot
About the things that I forgot to do
And all the times I had the chance to
    And I had a lover
It’s so hard to another these days
    These days
Now if I seem to be afraid
To live the life that I have made in song
It's just that I've been losing so long
    I’ll keep on moving
Things are bound to be improving these days
    These days
These days I sit on corner stones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten, my friend
Don’t confront me with my failures
    I had not forgotten them
    Songwriters: Browne Jackson

My girlfriend at the time, my future wife, introduced me to Jackson Browne in 1973. I’ve been his biggest fan ever since. My beautiful wife passed away last October. Now, when I hear his songs, especially this one, I cry, not because of the sadness I feel, but because of the beautiful memories they bring.

I am so sorry for your loss. When I first heard Jackson Browne ( as late as 1978) I was blown away. I've followed the music all my life. Do you believe in the Afterlife? I didn't but now I do. There is so much science that pointe to the reality of the Subtle Dimension. I do believe you will meet your dear lady again and never be parted. Till then, sir, may you walk your days in peace..

"I've been aware of the time going by, They say in the end, its the wink of an eye" I am in my 50's now and listened to Jackson for 40 plus years. It's a shame that the awareness of Life's deeper meanings we have later in life isn't part of our understanding when we are young.

@@jhodges1369 Or it's just as well, depending on how you look at it. To have full 'awareness of Life's deeper meanings' at a very young age might just stop a lot of people living wide while they have the time and health to do so. Also in my experience most of them are truly individually learned by experience - so there's that ;-) Jackson's beautifully crafted music stands alongside above all that and represents a mature and wistful look at life with all its vicissitudes - and for the thinking listener, I believe it always will.

Jackson Browne, the great lyricist! He combines words in such a profound way. Saw him and James Taylor in Portland, OR a couple of years ago and James Taylor mentioned that so often, the audience was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. A tribute to Jackson’s profound words. Such a talent! All these musicians are the absolute best!

Both Greg’s and Val’s guitar work on this song are beautiful … their solos and their interplay at the end. I also agree that an older, more mature, and slightly weathered Jackson Browne adds gravitas and poignancy to the lyrics more so than the teen who wrote the song. Great performance!

I hope this is not a silly story to tell…this song just always brings me back to this moment in time. It lessons of this song seemed so poignant at the time as they still do and always will. Way back in the mid 70’s, I was 15 and went out to a party with a guy I worked with. It was June and a beautiful early summer evening. Live music and beer, open fields and moon shadows. It was out on a farm and we got parked in(we were not really upset about it at the time🙂) and I didn’t get home until 3AM. My mom’s stare upon me sleeping woke me up in the morning! 😱 I was told I was grounded for the summer. I spend much of my days sitting under a big old oak tree in our backyard listening to this song over and over from my little battery operated tape recorder. I was so remorseful. 😪 After about 2 weeks my mom asked me why I was hanging around the house all the time. I apparently had earned my redemption and my freedom.🙂 It felt like a step in growing up…and remains timeless to this day.

I remember when he first released this song. I sadly loved it then, and I love it still. Thank you sooooo much. I like Gregg Allman's version , too. But to me, this will always be Jackson's song. Such a human song. Thanks for posting. And thanks for the song.

I love music that is clean, meaningful, and not over-produced. I feel every word of that song...cause there aren't that many days left!

    • @jhodges1369
      @jhodges1369 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I thought your comment "aren't that many days left" was poignant and it reminded me of a line in The Pretender... "I've been aware of the time going by, They say in the end, its the wink of an eye" I am in my 50's now and listened to Jackson for 40 plus. It's a shame that the awareness of Life's deeper meanings we have later in life isn't part of our understanding as younger men.

Why is that in all of the nearly 50 years I've heard this song, it NEVER gets old; and in fact, its many insights continue unfolding with the wisdom and experience that life brings. From such a young period of his life, a song he wrote beyond his personal experience remains rich and full of poignant depths.
